Coming out of my yelp review hole to post one for a local business... You ever have food so good you gotta leave a yelp review just to say thank you?
This looks like a family run business that serves a famous Persian pizza but this review is for the sandwiches and Persian taco.
Need to talk about this bread -- boy. My favorite hoagie bread on the Westside, (or even all of LA proper), hands down. I think next time I will ask for straight mortadella because the bread and beef mortadella are that good.
The Persian taco with ground beef is also a banger. It feels a little bit like a gyro without tzatziki -- pillowy, slightly chewy flatbread with crisped edges, seasoned ground beef, some tomato and parsley and a little kick. The bread is just sturdy enough to hold the juices in, but still supple and not soggy even though the tacos traveled for about 15 mins. It's great comfort food.
Update: I tried the pizza. Oh man... this is my first time trying Persian Pizza and my thought is "is EVERY Persian pizza like this?" I got the beef tongue pizza because it sounded the most interesting... There is a golden brown layer of cheese that's covering tender little chunks of beef, onions, mushrooms, and much more cheese. It's like a cheesesteak pizza, but only if cheesesteaks had that golden griddled cheese on top (a cheesesteak could never, honestly). A rigid but still foldable crust that holds up well against all of the ingredients I just mentioned.
Pro tip: just get a large. It's huge, you will want some the next day. When you reheat the pizza in a toaster oven, the bottom of the crust gets crunchy and the cheese re-melts really nicely. Throw some Momofuku Chili Oil on it *wink* and you're all set.
It's not your standard Italian pizza (there isn't any red sauce on the Beef Tongue pizza), but you get enough Italian-American (or even Japanese-Italian at Sei) in this part of town anyway. Try something new! It's my current pizza obsession!! Man I love this place.
The nice lady at the cash register was so kind to me and my 1-year-old. She gave him a big 'ol smile and handed him a big straw that he waved around like a sword.
Cafe Glacé hope you stay in business for many, many more years! Be blessed!
