"The clink of glasses, the hissing steam of the cappuccino maker, even the shuffling back and forth to the counter by loyal patrons...Café Medina hums with activity all day long. This casual spot attracts locals who flock here for hearty Mediterranean-style fare. Mornings are especially great here—it's when egg dishes take center stage. The heady smell of freshly made Belgian waffles may have you trying to jump the (long) line outside, but ask nicely and they'll share a few of the hand-sized waffles while you wait. Once seated, don't waste any time deciding, as the paella is a must order. Inspired by the Spanish classic, their version is made with orzo flecked with cubes of smoky, spicy chorizo, roasted vegetables, avocado and a textbook-perfect fried egg." - Michelin Inspector

"The longest lines in the city form every day at Café Medina, a haven of Mediterranean-inspired breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch dishes in the Library District. The decor here feels like a minimalist version of 1920s Paris , with aged walls, mismatched light fixtures, and a mosaic entranceway. Equally charming, the eclectic bistro fare ranges from pistachio-rosewater Belgian waffles to halloumi couscous and a harissa burger, spiked with preserved lemon and tucked into a pita with baba ghanoush and two fried eggs. Don’t miss the blistered flatbread, ideally paired with the honey-black-pepper mascarpone side. And finish with a lavender latte, a house-made turmeric soda, or a superb craft cocktail. If you don’t want to wait, skirt the crowds by visiting Tuesdays or Wednesdays for lunch, or arriving at 2 p.m. (an hour before last call)."

Café Medina | Bon Appétit

"GO HERE: for the brunch spread of your dreams: Mediterranean–inspired dishes, golden Liege waffles, and citrus-forward cocktails encouraged at any hour. You’ll wish Café Medina was in your hometown. ORDER THE: fricassée, a.k.a. saucy short ribs (a Medina favorite), and the flavor-bomb harissa “burger,” a spiced meat-stuffed pita with two eggs, Parm, many garlicky sauces, and seasonal greens. Every table finishes the meal with a few waffles and dipping sauces—the white chocolate-rosewater-pistachio is a classic. THE VIBE IS: meaty and lemony. The sunny space is filled with aromas of long-simmering stews and preserved lemons, and you’ll find fresh-faced nicely coiffed friends waiting patiently in line. In other words, this is not a place for those with bad hangovers in need of cheap bacon. If you’re in need, order one of Café Medina’s famous lavender lattes (available until late afternoon) to hold you over. PRACTICAL STUFF: Open every day: Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No reservations. Can’t wait? At the very least, ask for a coffee and a waffle to go. —Lindsay Anderson" - Condé Nast

We came here for brunch and ordered Paella and Les Boulettes. They used orzo instead of rice in Paella, but that was very uniquely good. The Mediterranean spices in both dishes were very strong and flavourful. The meatballs in Les Boulettes were juicy and tasty. The place was very busy during lunch time. However, the service was quick. The atmosphere was cozy. Very recommended.

We were a group of six and had to wait almost two hours, even though the estimated wait time was about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The staff made up for it with a nice gesture, offering us free coffee and a waffle. I ordered the fricassee, and it was delicious! The braised rib was definitely the highlight of the dish, tender and flavorful. But the real star of Medina Café is their waffle. I honestly can’t tell you how much I loved it, crispy, buttery, and perfectly paired with their toppings. Definitely a must-try!

Google
We had the paella and pork sandwich. The pork was crispy, soft and tender at the same time. Probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had. The foccacia bread was so delicious as well. The waffle is amazing, probably one of the best waffles as well. Come to this spot 🚀

At opening time on Saturday morning there is a 50 person line, but it was worth the short wait. By 9:15 we were seated. I was amazed by the extreme efficiency in which this place handled the amount of people, but still providing excellent service! The coffee and waffles are absolutely delicious and you should definitely try it! For main we choose to share the Wolf Platter, which has a bunch of different things. I personally liked the steak (and sauce) the bacon, potatoes and eggs the best, but it was cool to try 3 different types of sausage as well.

I really loved this place! From the moment I called to ask about their gluten free options, I spoke with the owner, who mentioned his wife is also celiac, and right away I knew I would be in good hands. That level of understanding and care made such a difference. When we arrived, the owner was so warm and welcoming. He took the time to get to know us and personally recommended the Wolves Breakfast, which was incredible, especially if you are looking for a high-protein option. The matcha latte was also so good and really well made. I was told the waffle is a must-try as well. The only thing I’ll say is that besides the Wolves breakfast - there’s not much more gluten free offerings. Highly recommend Medina for a cozy breakfast with an atmosphere built on positivity, genuine hospitality, and great food. A true Vancouver gem.

A Must-Visit for Breakfast Lovers – Cafe Medina Cafe Medina offers a relaxed, cozy atmosphere — perfect for a delicious and memorable breakfast. The menu may look simple at first glance, but every dish is full of flavor and character. Each plate is thoughtfully crafted and satisfying. Their signature waffles are a standout — crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly paired with a variety of house-made sauces. Every sauce is uniquely delicious, making it hard to pick a favorite. Drinks are well-balanced, and the service is consistently warm, friendly, and attentive. While there might be a short wait, it’s never too long and definitely worth it. If you're in town on an even-numbered day, don’t miss Cafe Medina — it's a true breakfast gem.

Google
I walked past this place a few times and it’s always full, so I had high expectations for the food. I ordered the waffle with dark chocolate dipping — the waffle itself was nothing special, but the chocolate dip tasted like real chocolate, which I appreciated. I also tried the Saumon Fumé after my server mentioned it was her favorite. The salad was fresh but quite bitter, and the toast mainly tasted like tartar sauce — nothing else. I didn’t feel like finishing the dish even though I was still hungry. Honestly, I don’t understand why this place is always packed. I won’t be coming back.

Google
Good breakfast/brunch spot downtown! Despite the long line, the wait time was just 20 min for 2, pretty okay in my opinion. Loved the food, service was great, my only comment would be it’s a bit awkward being sat at the small-ish tables near the entrance and have 2 servers squeezed on both sides of the table. Besides that the experience was great! will visit again. :)

Yelp
A lovely, bustling cafe serving up delicious brunch. This place was hopping on a Tuesday morning! We walked here from our AirBnb and were seated right away, even without a reservation. We started with a round of coffee. For food, I got the Saumon Fumé (smoked salmon), which consists of grilled focaccia with smoked salmon cream cheese, avocado, onion jam, arugula, and a fried egg. My honey got the Le Complet which is steak (flatiron) and eggs, although he doesn't eat eggs, so they subbed avocado. His also came with focaccia and mixed greens. We both really enjoyed our dishes--made well, with lots of interesting flavors. As we were finishing up our meal, our server, who was great throughout, asked us which sauce we would like for our liège style waffle to share for dessert. I love that he didn't even give us an option on IF we were getting one, just which sauce we wanted. (We got salted caramel.) While I was already full, I couldn't pass up this limited-quantity-available item. As our server walked away, I said "YOLO" under my breath and the woman sitting next to me asked if she heard me say what she thought I said and then she promptly ordered the same for her and her husband to share. YOLO. Oh, and we saw Owen Wilson, who is also apparently a fan of this cafe.

Yelp
Incredible! No wonder this place had a line of 15 people waiting outside on a weekday! The atmosphere is comfortable and our server took time with us even though they were so busy. The raspberry caramel latte sounded like an odd combo to me, but when I tried my daughter's I was delighted at the flavor from the little red granules, and the caramel went surprisingly well together. The "Fricasée" was recommended by our server and stayed piping hot in a cast iron pan, full of deliciousness with spice and flavor, and with a generous portion of tender beef under the eggs, it was very filling. This is exactly what you're looking for when you want something fancy and delicious for a breakfast out.

Yelp
We were looking for something other than typical brunch dishes and found this restaurant. There was a parking garage nearby which was convenient. We arrived there after 1pm and luckily were able to get sat right away. The ambiance was rustic, cozy and very European feeling. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. We ordered cappuccino, Kombucha, Fricassee, Poêlée de champignons and Liege Style Waffle with raspberry caramel. The drinks and dishes were delicious and complimentary focaccia was perfect for soaking up the sauces. The waffle was dense and chewy. The raspberry caramel sauce was phenomenal. We had a blast and will definitely visit again.

Yelp
We were told by friends to go try Medina Cafe, and are very happy that we took the advice. We didn't even realize this was a Michelin Rated restaurant until we sat down! The food and service was excellent. We ordered a few waffles and toppings since that was one of the things they're known for. They turnout out being worth the hype. We also ordered a flatbread with the marscapone and honey. This was amazing, we could have had that as our meal. The sweet and savory mix was so good. The thick cut bacon was also a highlight. If you like bacon you need to order a side of it Well, worth our 30 minute wait for our table!

Yelp
Unfortunately, this place was a bit underwhelming to me. The interior was beautiful and the service was top-notch, but the food just didn't deliver what I expected, especially after having to wait (for almost 2 hours!!) The waffle was delicious paired with the rose water pistachio dip. I ordered the salmon dish and it was not great - just not my cup of tea with flavor. However my husband got the fricasse, and it was better, but parts of the short rib were a bit dry. I liked the waffle for sure, but if I came back it would be something where I'd try to order waffles to-go.

Yelp
This place gets pretty busy, make sure to reserve! I ordered: Les Boulettes: My husband usually doesn't order dishes like this and it said it was really good! Not many ingredients in this dish but the taste was there. Saumon Fume: I loved this! The little tomatoes were so flavorful & the salmon was amazing. Waffle: We got this without many toppings aside from the maple syrup & that was all we needed. Highly recommend! Customer service: Very friendly staff! They all moved with urgency.

Yelp
It's a great place; there is a wait time to enter, but it goes by fast. Otherwise, you can make a reservation by donating to a charity of your choice. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. I loved their mimosa with saffron; it had a unique flavor. Everything else I tried was tasty as well.

Yelp
A popular Vancouver brunch place, Cafe Medina has still retained the tasty middle eastern-inspired menu that made it a go-to spot. The location is central in downtown and you will see line ups on most if not all days. That said, they have an easy wait system that lets you know how long to wait and when to head over to get your spot. Once you are seated the food comes out quickly and the service is friendly and efficient. We ordered the tagine, cassoulet, and fricassa and really enjoyed all of the dishes.

Yelp
My fav brunch place in Vancouver rather all of Canada. Every trip I definitely stop by this place. Love thier savory dishes and no trip is complete without their belgian waffles with their sauces - dark chocolate, raspberry & white chocolate pistachio rose water. This time we tried their eggs with oyster mushrooms and harissa burger and boy they were delicious. Love their house latte and have ordered spiked coffee as well several times. Service is amazing. Food takes a while but its made fresh and is well worth the wait. They have ample indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. You can make reservations online by donating $10 per person or stop by and be prepared to wait. Highly recommend and its been almost 8yrs and this place never disappoints!

Yelp
Medina received a Michelin star for good reason, and the lineups are justified. One of the best brunch spots in Vancouver, serving a good assortment of different dishes -- vegetarian options are available. I really enjoyed the paella; it was well balanced. Oddly, my favourite part of the dish was the acidity from tomatoes. A suggestion to future visitors: don't arrive hungry. The lineup is long, but worth it. Arrive early and put your name down. Medina is a must try.

Yelp
Look, all I'm saying is if you're technically having breakfast with Owen Wilson (because he's sitting 2 tables away) then you've clearly chosen the right place to have breakfast. My wife and I visited Medina on the morning of our last day visiting Vancouver. It was around the corner from our hotel and the menu looked promising. We cursed ourselves for not doing the "reservation by donation" option when we showed up early enough on a Saturday morning when we discovered a crowd and an up to 45 minutes wait. (The only way they take reservations is if you make a donation to a charity via their website.) No matter, we had time and got ourselves on the list. The wait wasn't too long and the host was very attentive to the waiting area so we didn't feel lost or ignored in the crowd. She also, after being seated and noticing our server had some delaying complications at another table, came over without being prompted and stepped in to take our order. We felt really well taken care of. Everything we had was fantastic. The Tea Sparrow English Breakfast tea service was spot on for my wife. The coffee was on point...excellent even. (Sadly, never a guarantee at breakfast restaurants...they got it right here...as strong as it needed to be.) We both ordered single "liege waffles"...Belgian style waffles just don't get better than what we were brought...they're inexpensive too...though they can go up quite about with the available add ons which are plentiful...I opted for maple syrup (when in Canada...) and butter (when having waffles...) I really loved it and could see myself gorging myself into a waffle stuper eating liege waffle after leige waffle. Thankfully I had a cruise ship to get on so we avoided that crisis over over-waffleization. (But I could easily fly back for more!) We also loved the Roasted Potatoes, Smoked Cheddar with Lemon Aioli. The potatoes couldn't have been more perfectly cooked and were an indulgent delight with the smoked cheddar they were mixed with. (The aioli came on the side which is good as I'm not a big fan of mayonnaise of any kind.) Considering the volume of available and delicious looking vegetarian options on the menu, it's a miracle we got out after only waffles and potatoes...but, Harissa Burger (vegetarian option available), Paella, egg dishes and couscous...plus the fantastic coffee and thoughtful drinks of every kind...plus the really well done design and atmosphere of this place...it's no wonder it's Owen Wilson's choice for brunch...it definitely would be ours over and over if we lived in Vancouver.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot, but make sure to make a reservation. We came at 10am on a Tuesday and it was packed. Liege waffles are amazing, especially with yoghurt and passion fruit creme- it was heavenly!!
google avatar

Yelp
To be honest I think this place is a little overrated and pricey. Friccasee - 7/10. The tomato is a bit sweet. The content is small for how much it costs. Liege Style Waffle - 9/10. A bit pricey for what it is. The berry compote is really good. The waffle is also very soft. Harissa burger- 6/10.

Yelp
Do I recommend this restaurant? Yes, yes, yes! We went for breakfast on two mornings and got in pretty quick both times. The latte was better than the brewed coffee, which was good. Whoever recommend the waffle with the caramel sauce, thank you! That was an excellent treat. The steak and eggs was good, and the focaccia and sauce took it to the next level. The avocado toast is also great. The place is busy, people know about it and wait in line. You might wait, you might not. Service is pretty good considering.

Yelp
If you're in Vancouver, Medina Cafe is a must-try! This spot offers incredible Middle Eastern and Moroccan-inspired dishes in a stunning setting. The food was fantastic, and the service was top-notch. I tried their latte, it was wonderfully strong and delicious. This place lives up to its Michelin recommendation; it's definitely one of the best brunch spots in town. Just a heads up: they don't take reservations, so you'll need to show up and put your name on the waitlist. The cast iron serving dishes add a cool touch. I went with my mom, and it was the best decision we made during our trip. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Was visiting Vancouver with friends and came here for a weekday lunch. We were a group of 9 and had to wait around an hour for a table--this place is very busy! I loved the cocktail I ordered. For food, I got the tagine. At first I was disappointed because it looked like a small portion but I ended up being quite full at the end of my meal. It was pleasantly spicy and complemented really well with the bread and raita. The poached eggs were perfectly runny. Overall was a solid place for lunch with a bustling atmosphere. Our server was great and was kind enough to give us individual checks which for 9 people is not easy!

Yelp
Medina Cafe is a Michelin recommended brunch spot in the heart of downtown Vancouver. They have mediterranean brunch cuisines which are so good! They don't take reservations, you have to physically go there to put your name on the waitlist. We went there on Sunday morning with a group of 7 and the wait was around 1.5hrs (totally worth it). For drinks, I tried their lavender latte which was huge and very milky with a slight taste of lavender. My friends really liked it but I thought it could've used more lavender in there. Their salted caramel latte was also pretty nice. For food, my favourite was their Les Boulettes which came with 2 Poached Eggs, Spicy Moroccan Lamb Meatballs, Roasted Peppers, Black Olive & Tomato Stew, Raita, Grilled Focaccia. I loved it so much!!! The meatballs were so flavourful and the tomoto stew really added to it. I should mention that they don't have a lot of vegetarian options, they do make some things from their menu vegetarian like their harissa burger. My friend who is vegetarian got this but was very impressed by it, it was mostly raw veggies with not a lot of flavour. Last but not the least, their waffles!! You can order individual waffles with seperate dipping sauces. We got their milk chocolate lavendar, white chocolate, and salted caramel dipping sauces. All three of the sauces were delicious and their soft fresh waffles went really went well with them. If you are a sucker for lavender like me, I would highly recommend their milk chocolate lavender dipping sauce. can't wait to go back

Yelp
needed a brunch place and happened across medina cafe pretty last minute -- it had a fairly lengthy wait if i didn't come alone, so small miracles. service was quick, everyone working at the bar was friendly and welcoming, and all in all a casual but comfortable setting to settle into. matcha latte: fairly solid for a place that doesn't specialize in it -- not overpowering or overly bitter but a nice start to the morning waffle with lavender chocolate: one of the more recommended bites for this place, so i had to try it. light and sweet to act as a starter without filling you up before the main course, and the dipping sauce was exactly as advertised, which isn't always the case with lavender so pleasant surprise. paella: hot and fresh; each aspect was cooked perfectly and balanced well with each other, from the rice to the egg to the avocado to the protein. overall hearty and satisfying without being overly salty.

Yelp
We loved it! Ordered a waffle, the mushroom dish, and a side of potatoes to split with my friend. It was plenty of food for us both and all was so delicious. Also the London fog was great. I'd go back for sure.

Yelp
Licked my plate clean! The tagine is so good it has me reconsidering all my life choices -- why don't I eat delightfully spiced beans, tomatoes and onion with merguez sausage and beautifully poached eggs for breakfast more often, for starters? Truly exquisite and balanced and not too heavy given how hearty ingredients are either -- the grilled focaccia helps make sure you don't miss a drop of the deliciousness and you can still walk out without being a in a food coma haze afterward, even if you finish the whole dang plate :) The side of raita it comes with is lovely too, I wish I'd tried it sooner and mixed it into my breakfast. The espresso in the iced Americano was life-giving and so good I ordered a second one -- was nice to have one to go while we waited for seat, which didn't take that long (15-20 mins) all things considered for a Sunday morning at peak breakfast hours (9:30-10). Saw it's absolutely packed for breakfast and even more for brunch so go early if you can. Can't wait to go back when we're in Vancouver next!

Yelp
Top notch food and service, really enjoyed my meal here! Cocktails (Casablanca Sour and Five Miles to Tangier) were absolutely amazing and must try!!! Food: Waffle with dark chocolate - crispy on the outside and soft with mochi like texture on the inside. Really good and I can see why it's high recommended, especially paired with dark chocolate. Short ribs - comes with well marinated meat, potatoes, two sunny side up eggs in (I think) tomato sauce. Incredibly good and definitely a must order item. Staff - excellent service and very personable. I appreciate our waiter came by frequently to check up on us. Though the restaurant has an open layout, it wasn't loud at all and I was able to enjoy a nice meal with my family'! Definitely coming back here again!

Yelp
First of all, if you want to get a seat, make sure you are there before they open in the morning! Fortunately we were the last party to be seated as they opened for the day. We ordered a couple of different dishes and they were all great. Probably the highlight of the meal was the waffle, which we ordered berry compote and maple syrup to dip them in. I would skip the berry and go with the syrup, it by far goes the best. I ordered the Cassoulet and really enjoyed the meats and the focaccia that comes with it was perfect for sopping up the sauce. The short ribs in the Fricassee were ok. The first bite I got to try was juicy and tasty, but the second I had later as I finished what my nephew didn't eat, was kind of dry. So not sure it if was just sitting, or what. Overall, the service was friendly and prompt and the overall feel and vibe of the place was as you would expect. OH, and the coffee, that will put hair on even a babies chest. While not complaining, just a mention. If you don't like strong coffee, you might want to order a crafted coffee or something else. I would recommend and certainly go back.

Yelp
Highlights 1. Gluten-Free* Friendly 2. Packed and Energetic! 3. Friendly Service Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday about 30 minutes after Cafe Medina opened. The place was absolutely PACKED! I was traveling for work and by myself so I was able to be seated at the bar right away. Bar seats are not come first come, first serve and seats are treated like table seating (assigned). The energy here is buzzing and loud and super fun. Within about 5 minutes of being seated every table and every single bar seat was full. There were about 15 people in the waiting area at any given time waiting to be seated as well. Despite how busy it was, the service was nothing but friendly and super efficient. Many of the menu items are naturally gluten-free* but they also have gluten-free bread to swap in for toast/buns. I enjoyed the frittata of the day and it was great! Definitely recommend this spot if you are in the area. *not sure on cross-contamination. As always, call ahead and ask specific questions for your specific allergy/intolerance

Yelp
If you wish to experience "downtown" vibe, Cafe Medina will be the place!! Busy busy, yet everyone is super friendly and still keep a smile on their faces! Even the patrons are friendly too, we chatted with a family in their cozy "waiting area" and in no time, our tables are ready! Food is homey and no non-sense, portions are generous ... oh do get their Waffle!! Very tasty with rich eggs & milk flavours!! I personally love the waffle with their Passion Fruit Cream! Kudos to Sera for a very pleasant experience even though this place is super packed! Parking ... remember the is downtown!!

We loved this place for breakfast and brunch so much so we came 2 days in a row. Mouthwatering waffles. Sabrina took great care of us - this place is way above average for their food. Very tasty and delicious breakfast - highly recommend

Yelp
POV: it's a rainy, windy, cold Saturday morning in Vancouver and you've been walking 4 minutes to reach your destination... Medina cafe! I was astonished to see the crowd and the bar completely full, I had to wait 20-30min as a party of 1. But I knew it was worth the wait. Right off the bat I noticed the service was superb. I was greeted with kindness and felt acknowledged. Once I got seated at the bar, I was able to get a great view of the beautiful and delicious waffles being wiped out due to its popularity. I was intrigued. I started my morning with a mimosa and waffle - added dark chocolate dipping sauce side. When I tell you I can still taste it in this very moment.........!!!! Size was smaller than I'm used to, but wow. Did it teach me to savor every bite and take my time. My server/barista was extremely helpful as it was my first time visiting. She guided me on what to order. I trusted her to make me a hot oat mocha the way she liked it.. and I wish I could drink it everyday!! The le complet was the perfect meal for the price and the proportion. Did I forget to mention how gorgeous the plate was???

Yelp
Maybe we went on an off day or maybe we didn't order the right items but majority of the things we got was a let down. The stone fired bread with hummus was rock solid, the potatoes were dry and the veg skillet was the most disappointing salty dish. The saving grace was coffee and waffles. Not sure how this place got on the Michelin guide. Service was friendly.

Yelp
SOOO SOOO GOOD!! Definitely shouldn't miss. The brunch, ambiance, everything was phenomenal. We went on a thursday and surprisingly there were quite a bit of people waiting. We were told an approximate 45 minute wait, but it turned into 10 min since many prior to us had left. Champignon (mushroom dish), waffle with the pistachio/white chocolate dip, salmon toast, and the beef short rib sandwich were on our order that day. I would say beef short rib sandwich is an absolute must if you come after 11. If you come prior they still have a similar one with 2 sunny side up eggs. The champignon dish was great too- very special, although I do wish it came with another focaccia since one wasn't truly enough to dip. Waffles and salmon toast, both fantastic as well. It's a definite must if you're in the area. I would probably just drive to vancouver just to eat here!

Yelp
Medina Cafe is such a great brunch spot but be warned that they are always busy. We stopped by around 11am on a weekday and still had to wait for half an hour. It was totally worth it, but make sure to keep that in mind if you're in any sort of rush. Many of their menu items are twists on classic dishes. I had La Santé which could be described as a breakfast charcuterie. If you order the vegetarian version, you get extra cheese instead of the meat. It was a great, fresh-tasting option and different from anything else I've seen on a brunch menu in the past. We also shared a waffle on the side with creme de fruit de passion and my only regret is just getting one. The restaurant itself is bright and welcoming with high ceilings. It is a bit tightly packed with all of the tables so we were happy to be seated at the bar which almost felt more intimate/private than the rest of the restaurant.

Yelp
Ok...so I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. Yes, the food is as good as they say it is. Yes, their famous Lavender Latte does taste like a trip to the spa. Yes, their service is worth the wait. I love the fact that...these guys give you a time estimate, take your number and text you 10 min ahead of time and you can just get there. Saves you from waiting in line, as in that neighbourhood, there are lots of places you can chill until you get in. Medina Cafe is like someone who is a 10 and stunning, and you wanna take them out on a date. You can. You will. You spend $$$. And you'll do it all over again. Gladly. That's Medina.

Yelp
Get ready for a long wait. I unfortunately was not prepared for how long it would take for us to both get seated and get our food, and I got hangry. I will say the brunch selection is pretty unique though. I've never seen breakfast versions of paella, meatballs, or tagine, so for that reason and those dishes, I'd still come back. My Tagine dish was tasty and hearty but not heavy. I enjoyed the combination of spiced merguez sausage with the poached eggs and tomato. I would've liked if they gave two slices of focaccia instead of just one to soak up the spicy tomato stew, but I took one from my boyfriend's Le Complet, which was just okay. The flatiron steak was overcooked, as it was more well done instead of medium-rare. The Liege style waffle was good but not worth the hype. I thought it was a bit small and bland without the white chocolate pistachio rosewater dipping sauce. Overall, it's a 3.5/5 for me.

Yelp
The reviews I read had me excited to try this place out! And it was a good call, everything was fantastic. The salad I had with the eggs and salon were perfectly seasoned and cooked. It was the first time my poached egg was just how I like it. As you walk in they have a case of waffles and they smell delicious but they were not sweet like I expected them to be. There was a bit of a wait when we got there so we walked down to a coffee shop while we waited. It was quick once we got in. Our server was helpful when we asked questions and service was quick.

Yelp
Solid brunch/ lunch spot in downtown Vancouver. The staff was friendly upon arrival. There was a 30 min. wait on a rainy Monday afternoon. I'd imagine a longer wait time on weekends for sure. 4/5: Cassoulet was delicious in flavors and textures. The focaccia was nicely toasted and worked well to soak up everything on the plate. Medina bacon was more of a thick pork belly slice rather than a thin slice of usual bacon one would imagine, but it was smokily tender. The 2 sunny eggs were cooked right and paired well with the sausages. I do have to say the London fog with oat milk was the most memorable. I'd order this again hands down. Overall, I would visit again on a weekday if I'm in the area.

Yelp
My friend and I first tried to come on a Saturday morning - they were really busy and quoted us around an hour's wait, so we came back on Monday. Fortunately we were able to get seated immediately (around 9h30am ish?) but it was still very busy, so be ready to queue a bit. Their speciality seems to be their Belgian waffles, so of course I had to try that. I ordered two with the mixed berry compote, greek yoghurt, and maple syrup. It was quite good, I enjoyed it overall, but I didn't really feel like it would have been worth waiting an hour+ for? In fact, the waffle itself was actually on the blander side. The berry compote was yummy, albeit a bit more sour than expected. I did love the maple syrup, though, which was SO yummy (and thankfully not too sweet in a sickly/overpowering way). Overall not bad, and also not too pricey either. My friend also ordered an avocado toast, which was pretty good too. There was such a generous serving of avocado (in this economy!) and the focaccia toast was interesting because of how flat it was (physically) which made the overall texture rather unique. All in all also a good dish. Good experience but I don't think I would have queued for this. Also, I saw so many other tables with delicious (many variants of steak and eggs, etc.) that I'd love to try in the future.

Yelp
The food must be good because the wait was well over an hour, we decided to do carry out and that was still delicious. I'd definitely go back and try more of the food.

Yelp
Cafe Medina, smack in the heart of downtown Vancouver, is straight bizzeh, yo. This spot's got mad vibes and a menu that's off the chain with dope eats. They known for them Belgian waffles and that bomb coffee, so you know it's a must-hit for both the homies and tourists rollin' through. From the jump, you walk in and get hit with them chill vibes. The spot got that fresh mix of modern swag and cozy feels, with wooden touches and light pourin' in. The crew there is mad cool, lookin' out for you and makin' sure you good. Our girl Sera was the real MVP, holdin' it down and makin' our time there lit. The menu? Straight up, it's bangin'. They brunch game is on point, with hits like the Fricassée--short ribs, roasted potatoes, and that egg poached just right. And them waffles they famous for? They got flavors like milk chocolate lavender and mixed berry compote that's straight fire. The Mediterranean vibes in the food got flavors poppin' that'll have your taste buds doin' backflips. But real talk, the waffles ain't all that, fam. They so small, lookin' like waffles for ants. Five bucks a pop, plus extra for the dip? That's a hard sell, even if they taste nice. You gotta question if they worth it. Now, about that coffee game--they ain't playin'. They got them espresso drinks on lock, brewed to perfection for all you coffee heads out there. That lavender latte? Next level, with a smooth floral kick that's somethin' else. In the end, Cafe Medina is where it's at if you tryna get your grub on in downtown Vancouver. The food's dope, the coffee's lit, and the whole spot got them good vibes. Even if the waffles ain't all they cracked up to be, the rest of the joint makes up for it. Whether you rollin' in for a chill brunch or just a quick coffee fix, Cafe Medina is the move.

Yelp
Waited about 35 minutes to get a table for 3 a bit after lunch time on a weekday, so wait times appear to be consistently long. Once getting seated, it was quite loud inside but the interior looked very modern. Our waitress was extremely nice and checked in with us multiple times throughout our meal. Le Complet 2/5 - I was a bit disappointed in what I received. First the flatiron steak was small in portion & not very tasteful. Second the greens did not taste like there was any sort of dressing, instead it felt like it was straight from the bag. Lastly the menu claims to have caramelized onion, but it was missing from my plate. Waffles 4/5 - I got the Milk Chocolate Lavender and White Chocolate Pistachio Rosewater toppings. The waffle itself was small but was soft and tasteful. The Milk Chocolate Lavender was good, but the lavender taste was overpowering to where I couldn't taste the chocolate much. The White Chocolate Pistachio Rosewater was amazing, nothing was too powerful and everything was balanced. I found myself gravitating towards this way more often than the other topping I ordered. Overall, my experience was pretty good. I would come back to try another entree but Medina cafe wouldn't be on the top of my list.

Yelp
Brunch time was a full house! We waited 20 minutes to be seated. Tables and seats felt crammed together. Loud chatter filled the air. Our chipper and attentive server took great care of us. We tried the paella - Note that it's not your traditional paella! It's a remixed version with orzo in place of rice. The cold tomatoes didn't mesh well into the rest of the dish. I liked the kick of heat from the chorizo, but found the meal feeling greasy towards the end.

Yelp
Rumors I heard: This was a little coffee shop that stands out from the rest, and has grown in popularity. They're known for their tasty coffees, fancy cuisines, and Belgian waffles with a variety of sweet toppings. Another rumor: Highly recommended to make a reservation. If you walk in to reserve, folks with reservation have the priority, then it's first come first serve with walk-ins. The wait can be about an hour. When we got there, the hostess told us an hour wait, but mentioned we can walk and explore around town. Just wait for their text and show up on time. We did explore for about 40 minutes, and they texted us that a table is ready. Sweet! Here's a bit more about Medina Cafe: # Brunch Time # ~ Started with a Keersten Chai ($5.50) which not overly bold with a black tea used. Not spicy and not too sweet. Splendid I'd say! ~ Casablanca Sour ($17) in which the wife ordered. This consisted of gin, an earl grey syrup, and lavender. I tried it and like it, but she likely enjoyed it because of the gin and lavender. ~ Les Boulettes ($22) or a dish with two poached eggs; These spicy Moroccan lamb meatballs, roasted peppers, all in a tomato stew. Served with grilled focaccia. To me it was kind of like eating a Korean galbi dish with all the ban chan fixings in a bowl. Complete polar opposites, but flavorful and delish! Loved the lamb meatballs and herbal smell that came from them. You can almost taste the cumin and paprika all in one bite. ~ The Paella ($22) with one sunny-side up egg, over orzo, chorizo, roasted veggies, avocado, a smooth tasting grano padano cheese, and a side of spicy charred salsa. Now this dish was bomb! I absolutely loved it! It came in a personal serving pan that I didn't wanna share. And it seemed like a popular dish everyone ordered. I can totally see why. I mean I'd order it again, hands-down! ~ Flatbread ($6), now this was something I observed getting pulled out from the stone-fire oven. And when I saw the fluffy freshness of these coming out all steamy, I knew I had to have one. The waitress told me that most folks order it with mascarpone and honey, and g'damn this was the perfect combo! Warm bread, creamy soft cheese, and honey. HEAVEN! In closing, this place was simply beautiful! The service was great, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was unique! The tables were pretty close together, so just expect a neighbor taking a peak at your lovely dish. I can't wait to go back here!

Yelp
A classic spot for brunch in Vancouver. You can't go wrong here as their food is tasty and hits all the notes. We had the mushroom skillet and tagibe (vegetarian) and we enjoyed both. You can't leave without having a waffle (or two). Note that the place it's a bit noisy due to the tall ceilings and how busy it is. Overall, we had a good experience.

Yelp
Hadn't visited Medina Cafe in a while and thought it was time to step back for a Sunday brunch! I've been to Medina Cafe enough to have a regular order here which consists of Fricasse and a Salted Caramel Latte. Fricasse in my opinion is the best dish Medina has to offer, it is a great combination of ribs, potatoes, cheddar and tomato sauce. Essentially this dish has all the flavours you'd want in a brunch dish. I usually don't have lattes, but I HAVE to get the Salted Caramel Latte at Medina, it is that good. We ended up getting the waffles, which are consistently delightful, and some toppings to finish off. While Milk Chocolate Lavender sounds like an odd combo, it really does work. Pistachio White Chocolate Rosewater does come in as a close second. Service was excellent as usual, would highly recommend MC if you haven't made a visit already!

Yelp
Liane our server was wonderful. She was patient, informative, kind & welcoming. She offered to bring our drinks out while we waited for our food. Also the older gentlemen with a beard who brought out our food was the best. He rocks! Now the food... The best brunch ive ever had in Canada, that goes for all the places ive tried in Toronto & Montreal which were also high quality and delicious. I had an americano with vanilla and that was also refreshing. Ambiance was also fantastic, be ready for a 30 minute wait because it is well worth it.

Yelp
I went here with a friend on a Friday 8:30am and we were seated immediately. It's crazy that the place is already so busy this early in the morning. Happy hour is 9-11am which is interesting because that entices you to have a boozy brunch which I did (because cocktails are way cheaper here than in the states)! We got their famous Liege style waffles and added milk chocolate lavender sauce and white chocolate pistachio rosewater. We also got the Fricassée which is a short rib with sunny side eggs, like a shakshouka. The waffles are lightly buttery and slightly sweet, and the sauces we ordered had a nice delicate floral flavor which stands out compared to overly sweet chocolate syrup. The short rib is decently tender, but a miss of the dish is that it was too tangy, from the tomato. Otherwise, it was fairly filling and the eggs are cooked perfectly over easy. I personally got 2 cocktails - the Mimouna No. 1 cocktail and the Partea one, both of which are delicious and well worth the discounted happy hour price of 9CAD each. The Mimouna is an elegant form of mimosa with some saffron, and the Partea one is very floral and refreshing. Both are quite strong so 2 was good for me. Service is excellent as they refilled water and it was easy to flag down a server, who fulfilled our requests quickly. Overall, this place is worth a try once but I wouldn't go out of the way if the wait is long.

Yelp
My first pick for brunch in the city ended up being Cafe Medina, since I was curious about them being featured in Michelin guide. All in all, pretty good brunch place if you are into Mediterranean foods as the menu are somewhat more unique vs regular brunch cafes. Also, they have my favourite liege waffle so far in Vancouver. Harissa 'Burger' ($19) 7.5/10 Burger with a middle eastern twist, where bun was replaced by pita with harissa minced beef inside, topped with 2 sunny side up, grada padano cheese, and salad greens. Love their hummus and salsa but pita was a bit dry. Pretty enjoyable dish as I am a fan of these types of cuisines in general. Tagine ($21) 7/10 Quite a hearty and filling dish. The Moroccan influence was definitely there in terms of strong spices and bold flavour of the tomato based stew. Sausage had a strong peppery notes, overall the dish was mildly spicy but I'd say still safe for most people. They gave you cream cheese as part of the item to cut through the heat. Liege Waffle ($4.2) 8.5/10 Despite being known for brunch place, my favourite item to get here is actually their waffle. Slightly crispy and chewy with nice crystallised sugar inside. Also enjoyed the white chocolate pistachio rosewater ($2) dip we got.

Yelp
We visited Medina Cafe for brunch before exploring Vancouver. The space was very cute inside and packed with many customers. We waited about 20-30 minutes and took the first available spot at the coffee bar. It was hard to decide what to order since they have many delicious options. I chose the frittata, which was cooked to perfection. Pillowy and very tasty. The grilled focaccia was a nice side. My boyfriend devoured the fricassee. We both enjoyed our coffees, and my boyfriend especially liked the coffee spike. Wish we had room for their waffles. Next time!

Yelp
My favorite brunch place in town with unique food and presentation. Superb service and ambience. I love how they serve on cast iron. Value 4/5 Atmosphere 5/5 Service 5/5 Quality 5/5 19/20

Yelp
Beautiful inside. Very busy but we were able to belly up to the coffee bar right away (lucky!). Server was very kind. Quickly given delicious drinks! I had a Field House Candied Peach Tangerine Sour. Heather had a funky cool mimosa (Mimouna No. 1). We ordered the Fricassee (SOOO GOOD... best sauce EVER! I will dream about this on wet cold days at home) and the Harissa "Burger" (Also super good--Heather preferred it to the Fricassee). Pretty sure everything here is amazing. We definitely will be back!

Yelp
Came here on a weekend for brunch and we were so worried that there was not going to be seating because it was PACKED. Fortunately, there was bar seating so we just got that (table seating would have been an hour wait). Inside the restaurant, it was very loud and the tables are packed fairly tight together so be warned. However, the ceilings are high and it's very bright, making it seem very lively. My boyfriend and I got a couple of plates to share and everything was so good. We took our time to eat and enjoy everything because it was so delicious, you just had to savor the food. If I had to recommend something though is to ask the server to bring out the waffles towards the end of your meal if you want to save it as a "brunch dessert" because if it's left out for too long it gets a bit soft. However, everything was overall amazing and I would definitely come back!
