Cakes Of Paradise's rainbow cake is iconic for good reason - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"There are a lot of tricolored symbols in Seattle—like navy, teal, and white for the Mariners, or grey, darker grey, and darkest gray for December. The rainbow slice at Hawaiian bakery Cakes Of Paradise is just as iconic. Flavored with strawberry-guava, lime, and orange-passionfruit, it’s a feat of pastry that somehow makes a dense block of cake oddly refreshing. Same goes for the sweet-tart mango cream cheese pie. But there are good options for fruit-loathers too, like chocolate chantilly layers frosted with thick mac nut buttercream. You’ll want to call an order in for your birthday. Especially if it’s in December." - Aimee Rizzo

People were right, it’s a moist cake. It’s nice soft, and fluffy. It’s just really, really sweet. The cream that they use is similar to Cool Whip, and not actual cream which makes the cake a lot heavier when consumed. I think it’s a nice treat if eaten in moderation. I’d say give it a try, but with expectations. Service was friendly, and cake shop is vibrant and island themed.

Ordered a 1/4 sheet of the guava cake for our wedding last weekend and everyone cannot stop raving about it. The flavor was amazing, not too sweet, and is a light, moist cake. All of my guests loved it!!!

Google
Got a half sheet guava cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday and everyone that tried it could not stop talking about how amazing the cake was! Had friends and family asking to take a huge cut home lol Great service when I arrived for pick up friendly cashiers and just overall a great business!!! Definitely worth the price you pay, there was so much cake to share! Thank you guys so much for the love and care you put into the cakes you bake!!

Google
I first tried their cake and cupcakes at my friend’s bridal party—and wow. Absolute flavor bomb. So, so good and incredibly moist! I seriously couldn’t get enough. Can’t wait for the next time we’re celebrating something in Seattle just so I have an excuse to buy more! ❤️❤️❤️

Google
Great custard pie! Definitely coming back, disappointed with the chai flavor was great but they basically gave me half a cup of a drink? I’m not sure if it may have been foam that went away or what, but instead of Starbucks I thought let me pop into this bakery to support small business. And to order a drink that was half fill was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, the pie was amazing.

Google
The guava cake, custard pie, and bacon (halal beef) maple bar were all great today! We've also really enjoyed the rainbow cake in the past.

With all the positive reviews. I don't understand what happened. The cake's ingredient list is packed with artificial additives, preservatives, and processed ingredients that make it far from wholesome. Some of the most concerning elements include: Partially Hydrogenated Oils (Soybean, Cottonseed, Palm Kernel Oil) – These are sources of trans fats, which are linked to heart disease. Artificial Strawberry Flavor Bits – Instead of real strawberries, this includes corn syrup, artificial flavors, and Red 40, a synthetic dye that has been associated with hyperactivity in children and potential health risks. Sodium Aluminum Phosphate – A controversial ingredient used in baking powders that may contribute to excessive aluminum intake. TBHQ (Tertiary Butylhydroquinone) – A chemical preservative linked to possible negative effects on health when consumed in high amounts. Artificial Flavors & Colorants (Red 40, Beta Carotene, Artificial Strawberry Flavor) – These mimic real food ingredients but are chemically derived, reducing the nutritional value of the product. High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) – A highly processed sweetener that has been connected to metabolic disorders and increased risk of obesity. I was excited to try this treat, but after reading the ingredient list, I couldn’t be more disappointed. Instead of using real, natural ingredients, this product is loaded with artificial flavors, preservatives, and synthetic colorants. Why use "Artificial Strawberry Flavor Bits" when real fruit exists? Why pack it with Red 40, TBHQ, and hydrogenated oils when healthier alternatives are available? The amount of high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, and chemical emulsifiers is staggering. It feels like this was manufactured in a lab rather than a bakery. The overuse of aluminum-based leaveners and petroleum-derived additives makes this a product I would not recommend to anyone looking for quality food. If you care about what you put in your body, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a treat that actually contains real, natural ingredients. This is a science experiment masquerading as dessert, and I won’t be buying it again.

Yelp
My girlfriend was having a 50th birthday party and had tried cakes from Bakery Nouveau but they were just too much. We were looking at an ice cream cake, a cheesecake and head exhausted almost all ideas until I remembered my friend had ordered a cake from here for her daughter's graduation 3 years ago. How that came to mind I don't know but I'm so glad it did. We went over a couple of days before her party and tried three slices of cake and ended up ordering the pineapple coconut and the passion fruit. They were excellent and even though we thought we ordered too much, by the end of the party there was not one piece left and so many people wanted to take a piece home after trying. There were only a couple of downsides. We had asked for no flowers on the cakes and they put flowers on and my girlfriend's name was spelled wrong which they fixed. For the most part the repairs looked great but you could still tell where they had swiped over where the flowers were.

Yelp
If you grew up with islander friends, you probably had the good fortune of having a slice of Cakes of Paradise at someone's birhday party growing up. Everyone has their favorite but Rainbow, Haupia, and Chantilly were staples to me. They are a still our favorite bakery in Seattle after so many years. This little shop has awful parking but fantastic cakes! We come for the rainbow cake but stay for the cream cheese pies, friendly staff, and retro atmosphere. This place is a Seattle landmark! They also have donuts, cookies, cake slices and whole cakes, and various pies for sale every day. I think they might have drinks too. And if you've ever had a slice of cake from Kona Kitchen, the cake is from this bakery!

Yelp
Ordered slices to go- Amazing quality, successful cake business. I am so glad i found this business. My favorite slice was the strawberry guava cheesecake. My favorite part about a cheesecake is that it has a thick supportive buttery crust. Cakes of paradise slice did NOT disappoint.

Yelp
I have had their guava cake twice at two different parties. The second time with gestational diabetes. I took a small bite, waited for 30 minutes and surprisingly did not see a sharp spike in my sugars. Then I ate a whole slice. In the middle of the night, my sugars started to climb but not to the extent I expected. The cake was delicious and I am very shocked to see how my sugars did not spike as I have had with other cakes

Yelp
After lunch, I suggested this spot as it was nearby and was one of our friend's recommendation down this area. Who doesn't have room for dessert? It's located in between Woks Teriyaki and Kauai Family Restaurant. Perfectly located next to a Hawaiian restaurant for the full Hawaiian meal and dessert afterwards. There's a small parking lot along the street in front of the shop. There were a huge selection of desserts, including cakes, cookies, and ice cream, and drinks. My friend and I shared a pie slice of Guava-Strawberry Cream Cheese (cheesecake, basically). The dessert was so so good! Very fragrant without any sourness and also not too sweet. There was a nice smooth consistency of the cheesecake with a thick crust which I LOVED. It definitely reminded me of home as these are the type of cakes I had growing up in Hawaii. Very nostalgic! Definitely a place to check out especially for delicious tropical flavors that won't be overwhelming in sweetness. I would come back to try their cakes to see if they'll also give me the same nostalgic home feeling.

Yelp
My husband picked up some pineapple coconut cake and their paradise cake! Sooo good! The cake is light and fluffy while the paradise frosting/topping is very flavorful and fruity! Huge fan of their cakes and will be back to try more!

Yelp
We just had the most Gorgeous Fluffy Light Flavorful Moist Passion fruit layer cake from this delicious bakery. Last year, we had an equally delicious marzipan raspberry cake.

Yelp
Fantastic cakes! Top-notch quality. We ordered a variety of cakes for our daughter's wedding reception, using the Pineapple Coconut cake as the white "wedding" cake to slice. The other choices we gave our guests were Strawberry Guava cheesecake, Guava cake, Passion Fruit cake, Chantilly mini cupcakes, Guava mini cupcakes, and Pineapple Coconut mini cupcakes. Needless to say, there were no leftovers. This was a great way to have dessert, something for everyone, definitely colorful, and, most importantly, insanely delicious.

Yelp
I have been wanting to come here for so long ever since trying their cake from one of our work functions. I just remembered the guava cake slice I had years ago and just kind of forgot about it until recently. So, here I am. Ordered myself a 6" Guava cake just because. No special occasion, just to share with my family of course! I pre ordered this couple days ago to pick up just in case they were going to be out. I'm not sure who helped me with my order but when speaking to him over the phone he provided great service and even when we came in to pick up the cake. Everyone there seems to be pretty cheerful! They have slices of cakes and pies for sale in the bakery, as well. That's really kind of them to do that for customers who do not want a whole cake. For the interior, it was cute and had a little island vibe going, with a wall where they sold some clothing. Okay, so the guava cake! It was so good! The cake is not too sweet and frosting is so lite!! Everything about this cake is 100% GOOD! You must try this cake!! I will be back and I will definitely try the coconut cream pie and the rainbow cake.

Yelp
Got my birthday cake from here after trying some cake from here since they catered an event at my work and couldn't be any happier! The cake is so moist and light (it was still moist even after a few days). I love that they use whipped cream instead of frosting and the guava filling had a nice tangy taste to help balance out the sweetness from the strawberry cake and whipped cream. I got a 9" cake and it was bigger than what I was expecting because it had a lot of height to it! I got it to serve 16 people but ended up with almost half a cake after (no complaints though!). I love all the tropical flavors here and can't wait to try more cake flavors. If you want a tropical fruity cake, Cakes of Paradise is the place to go!
google avatar

Abby C.

Yelp
The cake was fantastic. I came from out of town to celebrate my sister's birthday. I was looking around for cakes and found this spot and noted the tropical flavors. I'm a huge fan of guava and mango flavored things. I ordered two small round cakes ($40) each and it served about 12 of us and then some. The decorations were so cute and the flavors were incredible. If I lived in the area I know this would be my go to cake spot. Thank you for the service and the tasty cakes.

Yelp
The ONLY choice for my 50th Birthday cake was Cakes of Paradise. Beautiful and delicious. Perfect as always! Mahalo!

Yelp
Wow, after writing my first review of Cakes of Paradise 5+ years ago, I can still say that review stands the test of time. Cakes of Paradise is consistently delicious, the friendliest staff, and the bakery has such a welcoming environment. During this visit, I got a few slices of rainbow cake (one for me and two for my sister), a slice of Chantilly cake, and a guava filled powdered doughnut. The cakes are always on point! Even after all these years! The guava filled doughnut was pillowy soft, and the guava jelly abundant. Nestled in the industrial area, it's a nice little spot of aloha just exploding with beautiful bright colors and flavors of the islands. Here to many many more years and rainbow cake! Update: since my first review I finally got to Hawaii last year in May for my birthday. I visited Maui and I can't wait to go back there and explore the other islands too

Yelp
Came across their instagram page and have wanted to try it. Very clean interior and friendly staff. We tried a couple of things. My kids each tried a donut and loved them. Then we tried pieces of the Guava, rainbow, passion fruit and mango cakes. They were all so light and delicious. The guava was a favorite at our house. My husband said they reminded him of cake he would have back home in Guam. The guava was our favorite

Yelp
Had a wonderful overall experience! The Cashier was very polite. Love the colors and menu. We ordered our 2 yr Anniversary here! A sweet slice of the islands I'd say it did remind me of the vibe : )

Yelp
It's a cute lil bakery with a tropical theme. We got the chantilly chocolate cake and a pog Italian soda. The other person loved the Chantilly cake and would give it a 5/5, and I just thought it was good. The POG Italian soda was just fine, what I thought it would taste like. Service people were really nice! POG - 6/10 Chantilly cake - 9.5/10 and me 7.5/10

Yelp
Delicious cake! Ordered about 4 days ahead via phone. Cake was ready and packed very securely. Staff were very nice. My daughter loved her special birthday cake. Thank you!

Yelp
Delish custard pie by Bev. They have a variety of beautiful and flavorful cakes, pies, and pastry. Pastries included pineapple and guava turnovers, fruit bars, and coconut bars. Friendly service.

Yelp
I don't ever write reviews but the cakes here are phenomenal! I picked up three slices, the guava cake, chantilly, and guava strawberry cheesecake for my partners birthday. We loved all of them but the guava strawberry cheesecake was easily our favorite!

Yelp
Cakes Of Paradise has delivered the community with such delicious cakes and treats for years. I love their fruity cakes, rainbow, guava, passionfruit are my favorites!! Rainbow is probably the most favorite, since it has a taste of them all and more. They're spongy, moist and so flavorful. I know some people love their dobash cake, which isn't my favorite but I also don't rave over chocolate cakes. If so it's gotta be rich for my liking. BUT the cakes I do like are rich in fruity-ness and check all my boxes. Whether it's for a birthday, baby shower, wedding, or even a Tuesday night their cakes and treats are so delicious. A little pricey but well worth the creativity and craftsmanship! I'll have to try more than their cakes and donuts one day. They also have pies and more goodies. I like that the place is bright, smells great and has a little seating area as well. It's welcomes you to eat your goodies while there, but away from the line to check out. More recently I've picked up slices to go, and service was professional and quick! If you haven't tried, it's worth the visit!

Yelp
Amazing cakes for all occasions! We ordered a baby shower cake here for our family and couldn't be happier with the cake and the service. We ordered with only a few days notice and they were accommodating to get the cake to us on time and even personalized. The cake itself was beautiful and tasted even better than it looked. We ordered the Chantilly cake with macadamia nuts on it. Everyone at the event was raving about how tasty the cake was. Check it out it won't disappoint.

Yelp
THIS CAKE WAS DIVINE! I am originally from Hawaii so I love that there's a cake place that sells cakes similar to the one I grew up eating! They have tons of delicious and classic flavors like chantilly, rainbow, guava, lilikoi and haupia cakes! The one I tried was the rainbow cake which was light and refreshing with their layers of lime, passion fruit and gauva and it was just overall a beautifully colorful cake! It was such a delight to eat with my eyes first and then with my mouth which was salivating looking at this yummy cake! The service was professional and quick and the overall ambiance of the shop was very homey and casual! It truly reminded me of my childhood growing up in Hawaii. There is a good amount of seating and parking in this area which made this a good fast stop! I am excited to come back and try the other flavors here especially the haupia cake because that's my absolute favorite!

Yelp
6 out of 5 stars. In the heart of Georgetown, there's a bakery that doesn't just serve desserts; it serves a slice of aloha. Their tropical-flavored cakes--think guava, mango, and passionfruit--are so good they might just make you believe in paradise. 7 out of 5 stars. Oh, and the Chantilly cake? A macadamia nut-topped masterpiece that could convert even the most devout chocolate lover. And don't even get me started on the macadamia nut pie; it's a buttery, nutty dream. 8 out of 5 stars. The vibe is pure Hawaiian chill, with reggae tunes setting the mood. Pro tip: Pre-order your cakes, because this place is as popular as a beach on a sunny day. 10 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
Omg these cakes are f*cking heavenly!! I cannot express how yummy they are and I only wish I could eat cake everyday but I'm sure I'm not suppose to . It is the lightest most flavorful cake I've ever had & I love all the flavors. Just make sure you look at the menu before you arrive so you know more or less the cakes you'd like. It gets pretty crowded & it's a small space so keeping it moving helps everyone out.
google avatar

TeresaFuture M.

Yelp
I love exploring different bakeries and donut shops. My husband's favorite place is in Hawaii, so we had to check this one out. It's tucked away in the Georgetown area, which has changed so much. Since we went near closing time, they were out of pastries. I decided to try a piece of coconut pineapple cake, while my husband chose the strawberry guava cream cheese slice. My coconut cake was absolutely delicious--I plan to make the 40-minute drive there again tomorrow to get another piece as a birthday treat. My husband thought the guava was so tasty that he wished it only had guava without the strawberries. I definitely recommend this place; I'll be returning two weeks after my first visit! The cake is light and full of flavor, and the cream cheese slice is exactly that--creamy and rich. It's not like a cheesecake; it has a distinct cream cheese flavor.

Yelp
Best place to buy cakes !! I drive from Renton to Seattle for these cakes I highly recommend everything they bake
google avatar

Wennie H.

Yelp
I finally fulfilled my craving, after searching the uwaji shelves and coming up empty handed, I knew I had to just come to the source. They had slices and slices of cakes and pies, and a few doughnuts- it all looked so good. My slice of rainbow cake was light, fluffy and the perfect balance between sweet and tart. Service was friendly and interior provides ample seating.
google avatar

Melani M.

Yelp
We still fantasize about our first taste of the Macadamia Chantilly chocolate pie. Enough said... We'll be back!

Yelp
My brother turn me onto COP some years ago and I've bought cakes here ever since. The GOAT of bakeries, aesthetically delicious Absolutely recommend‼

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful cake (Rainbow) for a wonderful baby shower! I got the 1/2 sheet for 36 people probably could have purchased a 1/4 sheet but what the heck the leftovers are wonderful as well.
google avatar

Jezebel P.

Yelp
I continue to get the largest round guava cakes for my birthday every year. They're big enuf for the event and cutting pieces for guests to take home. But i've created a situation where I can't get any other kind of cake and even my friends who are gluten free will make an exception. I have a new favourite pie: the banana cream pie. I brought 2 pieces into work, and my boss literally stole one for himself instead of sharing. He's amazingly generous, so I knew this greed was a rare event and a testament to our devotion to this bakery. Nor could I blame him. The crust is almost cookie like, the custard is absolute heaven. Everyone I know adores this place. Everyone I work with eagerly counts on their office cake, or their colleagues' big day. There's never any question where my boss is headed for our events. And we all line up like excited children for our piece.
google avatar

Angie T.

Yelp
The cake was really good. The customer service was excellent. The cost was reasonable. I loved the fresh flowers too. I'll definitely purchase again.

Yelp
What a unique Hawaiian inspired bakery and I've already made it my mission to try everything on their menu. There was already a line outside before opening on Saturday, but it moved reasonably fast. Here's what I've tried so far: -- Macadamia Nut / Banana / Coconut Cream Pie - All of them are delicious and full of flavor without being overly sweet. You can't go wrong with any of these flavors. -- Rainbow Cake - Never had one in my life, but I imagine no one else may top how well it's done here. Completely caught off guard how good this was. -- Guava Strawberry Cream Cheese Pie - Good flavor and can definitely taste all the ingredients and how it seems fresh made, unlike other highly processed cheesecakes. -- Mango Cream Cheese Pie - Only one I'd skip, the topping was a bit too artificial and not strong on mango flavor. I had also placed an online order for full cake and everything went smoothly from confirmation to being ready for pick up on time. They also have an assortment of other desserts including donuts, long johns and cupcakes too. If only they weren't so far away; I'm seriously waiting for another event to order another reasonably priced full sized cake here.
google avatar

Meralina M.

Yelp
The desserts here are amazing. So vibrant and full of flavor. The passion fruit cake was very citrusy. The guava strawberry pie was our favorite. Perfectly tart and creamy with the perfect crust. This place also sells island flavors donuts and ice cream! Not pictured, we also got some donuts and they were perfectly fluffy and stuffed There is parking right out the front!
google avatar

Shannon G.

Yelp
This cake was really good you could really taste the flavors. So delicious. You should definitely give this a try.
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
I have heard so much about this bakery and seen so many of the products from here in various spots. I finally got to try a slice of the Chantilly Cake my friend had in her fridge! The chocolate cake was light and fluffy, and the coconut frosting was rich and flavorful. I love that it was not too sweet! (really let the cocoa and coconut flavors shine through) The frosting-cake ratio was on point and the cake was also so pretty with the flower on top! I definitely need to come back and try more of the tropical creations :)
google avatar

Marissa F.

Yelp
Cakes was absolutely delicious! Loved them so much we had to have their cakes for our wedding festivities. Our favorite is the Chantilly one and the pineapple coconut. They do not disappoint! They also provide great customer service and a friendly atmosphere. They are truly a hidden gem and a taste of Hawaii!
google avatar

Renee G.

Yelp
Try and strawberry guava cheesecake. I am not a fan of cheesecake normally because I don't care for the taste of cream cheese BUT my daughter had me try a bite of her cheesecake from here and it's the BEST cheesecake I have ever had IMO. It doesn't taste a lot like cream cheese, it's light and fluffy and so delicious! I did try the mango cheesecake but the strawberry is my favorite so far
google avatar

Phillip P.

Yelp
The best place to get hawaiian cakes i especially love their rainbow and haupia their my favorite they never disappoint.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
The dessert here is delicious. I enjoy getting the rainbow cake that's flavored guava, lime and mango. It's soft, not overly sweet and the flavors are so bright. Def would come again to try the donuts
google avatar

Janie D.

Yelp
Hawaiian pastry shop offering an impressive selection of cakes, donuts, pies, ice cream, and specialty drinks. They make custom whole cakes, and also sell cake by the slice. Flavors are authentic and unique: haupia, dobash, guava, lilikoi, and many more. The interior has no seating, but is bright and inviting. The young man working was genuinely friendly, and knowledgeable of the products. The Guava Cake was exceptional, and a very large piece for the price. It was an ultra light angel food variety, spread with layers of flavorful guava jam and sweet cream. Truly flawless execution. The Maple Macadamia Nut Long John was delicious as well, with a filling reminiscent of marshmallow fluff and a nice crunch on top. I look forward to returning the next time I am in Seattle.

B P.

Yelp
Cake me to paradise!! I can't believe I actually got a picture of this piece of cake because I almost couldn't stop eating it after my first bite. This was served at my friend's birthday party and was quite simply the most divine thing I have ever tasted. The balance of flavors and textures were perfection. And I'm not even much of a cake person. I will be ordering a cake soon just to have it again. Amazing!
google avatar

Tejal B.

Yelp
I was visiting a nearby bakery from afar and decided to come here as well. Ample of parking space, bakery is in a secluded area. No customers when we came plus their were not much items on the display which was a let down. But we did snag in some cake slices which were kept far from the customers eyes. We had their:- Dobash - Its a triple chocolate flavor cake with chocolate pudding as icing as told to us by the server. It was a unique tasting chocolate cake slice. Still getting used to its flavor. Mango - Tropical flavor. It was a burst in the mouth. Amazing Pineapple delight - Nice pineapple flavor. Decent Rainbow - Visually appetizing, flavor wise ok ok. Overall, we even wanted to try their Guava cake slice but they had ran out of it. Unique flavors. Something different, tropical. Prices are a tad bit high. But worth the experience. The mango cake slice was the star item for us.
google avatar

Jenny C.

Yelp
The rainbow cake was noticeably dry but the pineapple one was moist and delicious. The sell by date on the rainbow was 4/16 and it was 4/19 on the pineapple so I can see why it was drier. Sadly, I didn't get to pick my slice as it's kept behind a barrier but honestly in 2 days, that rainbow cake would not have been good so I think their sell by dates are too generous. I have not tried anything else from here but I would say that their cake slices, when fresh, are really good.

Stalyn D.

Yelp
Ordered a cake for a baby shower, it was so beautiful and tasty. Quick service on the day of pick-up and everyone was so friendly and ready to help

Kevin J.

Yelp
Made me a cake within 20 mins of me calling it in! And to top it offf best chantilly in washington state! Mahalos!!
google avatar

Yelp
Called one day ahead and they were able to accommodate my order during a certain pickup window. The recipient and guest all enjoyed the Chantilly cake. I have had guava cake in the past and I would recommend that flavor as well.

Yelp
Came here last minute to get a birthday cake for my friend visiting from Florida. They were out of their chocolate cake, so I wasn't sure what she'd like. I was fearful of trying their popular flavors because I don't know her flavor profile for sweets too well. I went with the chattily cake. OMG- divine!!! It's a chocolate cake, but the chocolate flavor is not over powering. The icing and crushed macadamia really bring the magic! We found ourselves eating this cake for breakfast the next day. I can't wait to come back and try other flavors that they offer. Also to mention, they had parking right in front of their store. The staff member that checked me out was very nice. I say that because it took me awhile to order something and she remained patient. Do yourself a favor and get your next cake from here! They also offered to write on it, but I wanted to just use the candles.
