Woolsey Fire Damages Malibu Cocktail Destination, Mon-Li, Prompting Temporary Closure | Eater LA

"The Woolsey Fire charred the grounds of the Calamigos Beach Club and damaged the property's electrical system, affecting on-site businesses such as Mon-Li; with rain in the forecast the damaged areas are under close watch for possible mudslides and debris flow, which is particularly concerning given that deadly mudslides in early 2018 after the 2017 Thomas Fire claimed nearly two dozen lives." - Mona Holmes

Mon Li Review - Malibu - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Mon Li is temporarily closed due to damage sustained in the Woolsey Fire. Located inside the Calamigos Beach Club in Malibu, Mon Li isn’t a bar at all. It’s a $150 per person cocktail tasting, and it’s one of the most unique drinking experiences in the city. A night here generally goes something like this: you walk in, you tour the gardens where most of the ingredients come from, and then you head to a small bar area inside where you’ll embark on a 12-course cocktail journey that includes things like a mole-infused negroni and an Old Fashioned sopped up inside of a sea sponge that you squeeze into your mouth. There are small food courses along the way for nourishment (most of which are excellent), but this is a cocktail-first situation, so you should expect to walk out a little stumbly." - Brant Cox

Mon Li, LA’s Most Extravagant Cocktail Experience, Kicks Off in Malibu | Eater LA

"Opened in Malibu inside the Calamigos Beach Club, this is Matthew Biancaniello’s first major solo concept: an intimate, ticketed omakase-style sipping experience for just 12 guests that runs as a twelve-course, produce-forward cocktail tasting in an indoor-outdoor oceanfront setting. The program emphasizes savory, experimental combinations and meticulous detail—examples from the opening menu include sea moss–infused mezcal, mushroom-infused bitters, and hard‑boiled quail eggs used as a garnish—while drinks, ingredients, and ambiance are expected to evolve frequently. Seats are reservation- and ticket-only for evening service, and pricing reflects the high level of craftsmanship and real estate, positioning the experience as a standout and conversation piece within the Los Angeles bar scene." - Farley Elliott

Cocktail Maestro Matthew Biancaniello Debuts Full-Service Omakase in Malibu | Eater LA

"Chef Matthew Biancaniello has opened a tiny, cozy twelve-seat (about 200 sq ft) omakase bar inside the Calamigos Beach Club in Malibu that showcases ingredient-driven cocktails and small plates built from locally foraged items sourced on the Calamigos grounds and in Topanga Canyon. The rustic, functional space features hanging dried herbs, raised garden beds, custom wooden shelving holding roughly 60 glass jars of bespoke ingredients, and a tasting format that includes 12 liquid courses and five food courses. Diners are greeted with a cocktail tailored to their preferences and available ingredients, and seasonality is guided by collaborator Chef Jonathan Arocha. Service is by reservation only with two seatings Thursday–Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., booked through Tock or the restaurant website." - Mona Holmes

Google
This is a beautiful space! Went once for a dinner as part of a wedding party and went back two days later just to go to the beach. They take care of you and make sure you have everything you need. Very close to the water!

The staff were amazing and service was phenomenal. While pool/bar menu as well as brunch and dinner menu are limited, the quality was good. The setting is very calm, green and relaxing. The bigger pool was a bit chilly and the smaller one felt like a jacuzzi without the jets. Overall our big group was pleased and enjoyed the stay.

Google
Great venue, warm staff, and it's a beautiful property that withstood the recent fires. It's actually a lot larger than it first appears as it has the main "house" a lower lawn down the hill from the "house". From there you may take the private tunnel with a creek gently flowing through it straight to a private beach. Ummm, not to shabby! 🙂 Great space for both corporate and social receptions.

Yelp
We came here to have dinner February 20, 2022! This is a really beautiful looking hotel especially at night! It's almost like a farm setting and sorta lit up like Christmas it's very beautiful with all the lights. We stopped to grab a coffee at the coffee shop there and it was honestly not that great, they were very sweet the girl working there I do remember that. But their coffee was not that great. The dinner we had was nice but it was outside and it was freezing. So we were all shivering and by the time our food came out everything was pretty cold. The entire hotel was not busy there wasn't that many people there. Kind of a shame since you think it would be since it is beautiful there. The rooms were interesting and across from each other, however I loved the little fire pit they had in the middle of the outside area going back and forth to the rooms. The kids had a blast though they had fun running back and forth and they do leave a lot of yummy snacks around which was really nice. The customer service was not bad not the best but not bad! Everyone was nice but things took extra long when it shouldn't when no one was really there. I hope next time we visit this hotel it will be busier. But it's a very unique kind of a hotel and very gorgeous. At least check it out once. Have a really beautiful day :) Be kind to everyone - Aloha

Yelp
Looks closed since the pandemic. (Or only open to hotel guests). Too bad as it was fun while it lasted.

Yelp
Calamigos Beach Club is an absolute dream. Hotel guests of Calamigos Ranch have access to the beach club and can catch a 10 minute shuttle there every hour. My friends and I stayed at the ranch last fall, and visited the beach club for some drinks and bites at the bar after a day of wine tasting in Malibu. The jalapeno margaritas, tacos, and fried chicken bao were unique and delicious. The service and hospitality were first class. We took a short walk down to the beach front with drinks in hand, where they pulled out beach chairs for the three of us. You can also order drinks down at the beach and they will walk them down for you. We were the only ones at the bar and on the beach that afternoon, so it felt especially relaxing and intimate. I look forward to the day I get to return to Calamigos Ranch and Beach Club. It's a beautiful venue, down to the smallest details.

Yelp
It's one thing to be a closed, snooty exclusive club, but why not put that on your Google or Yelp listing so you don't come up as a great place for Happy hour! It took us half an hour to find, and once in, despite me having a broken toe and despite the fact that there was virtually nobody there, they refused to let us have a drink and watch the sunset, even though I showed them that the listing said nothing about a closed club. Very disapappointing and rude.

Yelp
Good times are always had by all... what can I say? We came for a good time... sips, service and fun. We found it!

Yelp
Calamigos beach club is a beach club and restaurant that opens to public. It belongs to Calamigos guest ranch and free to hotel guests to use. Non hotel guests can get day pass to hang out here for a whole day. They provide beach chairs and umbrellas at beach front, also a drink and food menu so you don't need to bring your own refreshments. Basically they provide service on a public beach, and all beaches are public in California from coastal act! So there will be other people on the beach besides beach club guests. And two young women were doing an amateur photo shoot near us which was interesting to watch. Although Pacific Ocean is not as beautiful as Caribbean Sea but the weather is much better! I can't do heat and humidity, Southern California weather is still the best! This beach club is huge and beautiful with a main restaurant and an outdoor lounge on the sand on the property. Main restaurant is very cozy and intimate, the food and drink menus were decent. Little lounge on the sand has some games to play which is fun to hang around. The beach club and restaurant is located on PCH which is 12 minutes away from the guest ranch. We took hotel shuttle to the club and they walked us to beach front down the hills through a tunnel. Our hotel beach club provided chairs and umbrellas, we were able to order food and bottles of champagne from them. We spent an hour and half at the beach and took some nice photos until sunset hour. It was getting chilly so we headed back to beach club to eat our food. It was so quiet and we had the entire restaurant to ourselves mostly. The food was so tasty and refreshing, I think they had better food at the beach club than Calamigos ranch Malibu cafe. I really liked the complimentary coconut water and it was the best for rehydration when I drank too much! Hubby and I truly enjoyed our time at this beach club, all staff members were extremely friendly and pleasant. For some reason there was barely any other people around the entire time so it was so romantic, relaxing and intimate! We would love to come back here if we ever stay at Calamigos ranch again!

Yelp
You guys suck! I called specifically a number from your website and asked if it was open. The girl who answered said yes! I wanted to be sure it was dog friendly as well, she confirmed yes as well. I asked if I wasn't a guest at the Ranch, can I go to the beach area, she said, only to resort guests. I get here and they tell me restaurant is closed! Rude staff! He said no one answer the phone there! I said someone did and I don't care how your phone is rerouted, clearly someone gave me the wrong info. I called so I wouldn't have to drive 1.5hrs wasted! Basically, very disappointed with the way this was handled! Even the manager told doesn't want to help me cuz I was raising my voice! Yes! I was doing it cuz he didn't seem to even care that the phone or whoever answered gave me wrong info! Didn't get his name or the girl name this morning. His half bold and that's what I know! Don't even deserve a star! Just giving one to post this review!

Yelp
10/10 I went last March for my birthday and it was great! Greeted with fresh coconuts Amazing food and drinks! If you go definitely order the boa buns you will not regret it. They even brought over a free piece of cheesecake for my birthday!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by Calamigos Beach Club while staying at the resort. We drove about 9 miles which is a 15 minute drive. Once we entered the clubhouse, it was completely dead. The only people that were there are 3 workers and a couple of them were kind of pushy to dine in or to grab a drink. I feel they came off a bit pushy because they have to make some kind of money which you can tell they aren't at all. Maybe if it wasn't so dead we would have felt a little comfortable to grab a drink. We wanted to check the "secluded beach" they market pretty well on the internet. When the host walked us down, it's just a a few chairs right next to the Malibu beach that's shared with the public. I feel their marketing is top notch but doesn't resemble the actual place. Super disappointing.

Yelp
Wow this place is a serious hidden gem. Came by here for a breakfast burrito and was in shock. Hands down best one I've had. Also the 25 cent coffee honor system is so fun. The place it's self is so beautiful that I brought my fiancé back for dinner. It was such a cool vibe. They had a really great dj playing chill music. Felt like we were sitting At a cool beach bar in Greece. Staff was super friendly and seemed excited to have some people in the room. I asked them How long they have been open. They let me know that they officially opened to the public only recently. Highly advise going by here and checking it out.

Yelp
Impeccable service on the sand! They setup our chairs, towels, boogie boards and delivered our food and cocktails. All staff was onsite at the beach ready to serve guests from Calamigos Ranch.

Yelp
Fantastic! We had a wonderful time. The resort was incredibly accommodating. Our kids joined us unexpectedly and the hotel placed us in a larger room with a roll away. What was to be a romantic getaway turned into a family vacation and the hotel made that easy and stress- free. Will be returning!

Yelp
This review is for Maggie, the special events manager. Maggie was super approachable and prioritized our needs and desires from our first conversation. She was very professional but most of all, showed empathy and understanding when our plans changed unfortunately due to COVID. Because of Maggie, we would consider having an event here again.... just to work with her again. Thank you Maggie.

Yelp
Went to Calamigos Beach Club for the first time today for brunch and I was extremely impressed with the service and quality of food! I had the breakfast burrito and it was incredible! Great atmosphere, will definitely be returning!
