Nestled in the East Village, Bad Habit Ice Creams boasts an inventive scoop shop with velvety hot chocolate and unique ice cream flavors that'll keep you coming back.
"Bad Habit ice cream, known for its unconventional flavors like miso raspberry and sweet corn, closed its storefront over the weekend. Owners Jesse Merchant Zuñiga and Javier Zuñiga are moving to the West Coast and plan to continue their culinary adventures there." - Luke Fortney
"Bad Habit ice cream, known for its unconventional flavors like miso raspberry and sweet corn, is shutting down on July 14. The owners, Jesse Merchant Zuñiga and Javier Zuñiga, are leaving New York City. The couple started making ice cream in their Brooklyn apartment during the pandemic and opened a storefront in the East Village in 2023, which sold ice cream during the day and wine at night." - Luke Fortney
"Bad Habit is an East Village ice cream shop with hot chocolate that’s almost chowder-like in its thickness, topped with a brûléed, oversized homemade marshmallow. You’d be better served spooning it into your mouth than trying to sip it, and it makes for a perfect warmer after a winter stroll in Tompkins Square Park. If you’re more in the mood for a pick-me-up than a put-me-to-sleep drink, Bad Habit also does hot chocolate affogatos—half-cocoa, half-espresso—with their rotating slate of similarly rich ice creams." - will hartman, carina finn koeppicus, nikko duren
"There are three types of ice cream venues, and Bad Habit in the East Village doesn’t fit snugly into any of the usual categories. It’s not an ice cream truck, and it’s not a walk-up counter with a small handful of flavors. It’s almost a full ice cream parlor—except it only has a few barstools, and it also used to be a wine bar with small plates. That means you can still get a glass of wine here, in addition to scoops of their deliciously dense, constantly rotating ice cream flavors, like burnt cheesecake or gianduja hazelnut crunch. They have special sundae collabs and ice cream sandwiches too, as well as a rich hot chocolate affogato with cocoa that’s thicker and more viscous than your average motor oil, and will turbocharge the engines of your soul. photo credit: Alex Staniloff" - Will Hartman
"What started as an ice cream pop-up in the pandemic has blossomed into a boozy ice cream bar with plenty of savory snacks. Given that most of the seats in this tiny spot are bar stools, it’s best as a decadent solo afternoon snack: order one of Caleta’s small plates, like its chicken liver mousse, with a glass of wine. Finish the meal off with one of its rotating flavors of Bad Habit’s ice cream sundae. It’s an order-at-the-counter situation, so nothing about it feels fussy." - Eater Staff
