The 24 Best Restaurants In Charlotte - Charlotte - The Infatuation

"Calle Sol is as dependable as a 1998 Toyota Camry—it’s the restaurant we turn to whenever we want a guaranteed excellent lunch or dinner. Start things off with any ceviche, then go for the vaca frita that’s fried on a griddle with garlic, onions, and lime juice (the braised beef paired with the crisp created by the griddle is a texture and flavor combo we can’t get out of our brains). For lunch, go with a Tampa- or Miami-style Cuban sandwich with a side of fried sweet plantains. And even though you might have other responsibilities, you should still pair it with an off-menu spicy margarita that uses muddled rocoto chili peppers. This spot sits on a corner in one of Charlotte’s most walkable neighborhoods, which means it’s always buzzing, so make a reservation." - tess allen, g clay whittaker

18 Best Restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"The FS Restaurant Group is known for Italian food, but that narrative shifted when Calle Sol came to town (now in both Plaza Midwood and South Park). Calle Sol’s $10 lunch special entered the scene and turned Charlotte’s meager lunch options on their head. The dazzling ceviche is a must-get, and the accompanying fried plantains act as boats for the fish. Drawing from Cuban, Peruvian, and Chinese influences, the palate is exciting, and the portions, especially of dishes like the vaca frita and fried rice, are hearty. Punchy rum cocktails taste better inside this colorful, vibrant neighborhood spot." - Kayleigh Ruller

Find the Best Ceviche in Charlotte, North Carolina - Eater Carolinas

"The menu at Calle Sol bounces all over Florida’s Cuban influences (even Chinese-Cuban dishes) with a sharp turn into Peru’s ceviches. There’s only one version at lunch (but it’s a generous one, with lots of sweet potato, planks of fried plantain, and crunchy cancha). Dinner brings four kinds, including one with the fruity Peruvian pepper aji amarillo. For those wanting mixto — shrimp and fish together — add $6. And more is on the way: Calle Sol just announced plans to open a second location in SouthPark in 2023." - Kathleen Purvis

These folks are a good lot. I enjoyed my unplanned visit after a float spa appointment. Perfect stop for lunch IMO. The whole staff were friendly and humorous as an unaffiliated ad was shot there and the people didn't even spend $$ with the establishment. Just adios and thanks. The Ceviche was excellent. I got the Rocoto with shrimp and fish. YES! Loved it. Primary reason for the stop and I savored every bite. After good conversation with some other locals and a tasty margarita, I know I'll be back to further sample the menu.

Google
We had an amazing dining experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, showcasing authentic Peruvian flavors with every bite, a true taste of Peru. The service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere added to the vibrant, welcoming vibe. Don’t miss the ceviche! If you’re craving bold, expertly prepared Peruvian cuisine, this is the place. My family and I love it. We’ll definitely be back!

Finally after couple of tries, got to visit this place on a summer Sunday and it was worth it. The mixed ceviche(shrimp & white fish) was one of the best in Charlotte. Equally good were the Shrimp Chaufa(Peruvian fried rice) & Tallerin(Noodles). All the ingredients were fresh and you can taste the distinct flavors. Will definitely come back to try some of the other dishes. It’s a small place with limited parking space. So plan accordingly. Service is good.

Google
DELICIOUS ceviche. We got the Rocoto w white fish, the peppers in there were so good, also the classic w a mix of shrimp and white fish. Both were tasty, never had corn nuts or sweet potato w it before but it was a welcome addition! As an app we got the Arepas, the chicken salad on it was INCREDIBLE. We also got the Cuban fried rice, amazing, so much flavor. Only quarrel I had w it is there was a bit too much sauce dribbled on top but that’s a personal thing for sure. Lastly we got the Chicken Cubano, soft bread and great depth of flavor. Pickled vegetables were perfect on there. Just about the only thing that lacked flavor was the quinoa salad but once we added some salsa from our Arepas from it it was perfect. I believe my cocktail was the heat wave, VERY SPICY which I loved bc usually when a cocktail is suppose to be spicy it doesn’t live up but this one definitely did, and it was cute!! If we weren’t just visiting I’d be here all the time.

Google
I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this place! First visit and the food was top notch while the service was outstanding. Kim immediately gave us recommendations for a good combination of plates to share and we loved every single bite. The Cuban fried rice was my absolute favorite with plenty to share and eat the next day. We had a cocktail from the May features and I’m just sad it won’t be there next month. The Cuatro Smash needs a permanent spot on the menu.

Google
We really enjoyed lunch at Calle Sol. The food came out quickly and our server was great. This rating is a 4.5/5 but not quite a 5. Will definitely go back as the service was solid along with portion size and price. Cuban Fried Rice: 4/5 - very good, super rich Tallerin w/ Chicken: 4.5/5 - really good Plantains: 3/5 - they were so-so, nothing special Key Lime Pie: 4.5/5 - excellent

Google
What a GREAT new find for us !! This was such an amazing experience today from start to finish. The food is outstanding (homemade all), the staff perfect, the service wonderful. We had the best time here and have def put it on our ‘favorites’ list when in Charlotte !! Well done and TY ALL so much for the ‘moment’ …

Google
Sat at the bar because seats were reserved for reservations. Nonetheless, excellent food and service. The ceviche app is very fresh and food is filling.

Yelp
Went to Calle Sol in Plaza Midwood last night for date night and everything was delicious! It's always such a treat to go there. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot right near the building. We got the croquetas as our appetizer. I wish I could have an entire meal of those things, since they're so delicious!! My partner ordered the Lomo Saltado, which he really enjoyed. I got the shrimp tallerin, which was amazing as always! Our server Nikita was so bubbly and sweet. She immediately told us about the $7 margarita deal for "Tequila Tuesday." These weren't as ornate as their usual cocktails, but the price and the taste was perfect!

Yelp
Calle Sol hit the spot!!! If you're ever in Charlotte you definitely gotta check them out. The place is an absolute vibe with Latin music blasting and beautiful bright decor. The staff were super friendly and the service was exceptional, especially considering how busy they were. The croquetas remind me of my aunts back in Miami. Crispy on the outside, fluffy and flavorful on the inside. The ceviche was bright and flavorful and packed with fresh seafood. The banana pudding tres leches was an AMAZING fusion idea! All in all, if you're looking for great vibes and great food, look no further than Calle Sol!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my food here! A lowkey spot good for lunch or dinner. They have a hot bar style lunch option, but we opted for their regular menu. Service was friendly and our server worked to get the answers to all of our questions. Their wok was down when we visited and we were not able to get any of their Asian inspired dishes (which is what some of us came for) so that was kind of disappointing. They have an expansive menu, so we were able to make some new choices. The chicken salad arepa was different than I expected from the menu description, but was very good. I was actually full after having that as an appetizer. I got the sol bowl for my entree, which was very filling and had a great amount of protein (I chose chicken). . The restaurant is very cute and has a nice throwback style decor that matches the cuisine.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times this month because the food is so incredible! I love the lentil dish, the fried rice, and the chicken sandwich!! The sauces and flavors are so good and very unique.

Yelp
We came here for a late snack and to enjoy their $9 mojitos! Super cool spot with yummy food from snacks to dinner. Service was stellar and super friendly and accommodating! Awesome spot for dinner or lunch, you can eat inside or outside. It was too hot for the outdoors. Can't wait to bring the husband here! The apreas were yummy. And the Peruvian fried rice! Oh the shrimp were large and yummy.

Yelp
Now this place was great. The staff were great. The energy in the restaurant was positive and welcoming and the food was mouth watering. It was so good! Everyone enjoyed their meal. There was music playing in the background but not overpowering that you cannot talk. We had such a good time. I would definitely go back!! Try all the foods in the menu!!!

Yelp
This right here?! Is some good eating! Haven't been in 3 months and I still think about that ceviche. Like inject the lime juice into my veins. It's great to get other cuisine with some culture that isn't typical of the south like BBQ and beans for instance. Really really really enjoyed my lunch here. Feels like going to your Latin friend's house after school and staying for dinner...and you just keep finding reasons to go back over here to eat. I ate to my heart's content, l didn't need dinner that night. The menu has stir fry and I didn't know why, but the menu mentions Chinese emigration workers to Latin America through the 19th century. I appreciate the history tidbit. Our waitress, Shelby knew my eyes were too big for the menu and helped me pare down my choices. I'm looking for excuses to come back to Charlotte to eat here. Good: -Sweet Plantains -Classic Ceviche -Lentil Cazuela with Salmon -Tallerin with pork (noodle) -Key Lime Pie -Sweet Tea

Yelp
What a cool place with such flavorful food. Great fusion restaurant and the service is on point.

Yelp
Oh this place is a must, and if I lived here this would be a in my restaurant rotation. This cute little spot is bursting with personality and flavor, the margarita hit the spot i got the spicy one and it's not your water down spicy either. We did the classic ceviche with mix of fish and shrimp very good. I had a chicken sol bowl, so fresh and very good, it wasn't what I originally wanted everything under Chino-latino was out of service, but no regrets the food was amazing.

Yelp
Calle sol has a hot food bar for I believe is 11 bucks per person that we did not partake in. However I looked good. We did however order from the menu. Unfortunately, two of their woks went down so the full menu items were not available. I was able to get the croquettas which were very delicious. I also had the Cuban fried rice which I can't lie, was some of the best fried rice I have had in a long time. A little bummed about not being able to try a few different items, but I was very pleased with the items I did try.

Yelp
We love coming to Calle Sol. We havent had a bad experience yet. Servers are all so kind and helpful. Food and drinks arrive quickly. Ceviche is top tier. More food than expected. Drinks were refreshing and tasty. Overall a great experience and good vibes.

Yelp
I didn't expect that I'd love Calle Sol given that in general, Latin cuisine isn't always the most vegan-friendly, but we gathered here for a friend's birthday recently and I truly enjoyed it. Their veganized Lentil Cazuela (leave off the egg) is quite hearty and delicious, unusual when a place doesn't have a dedicated vegan option. Plus our waitress was one of the nicest most enthusiastic servers that made our experience next-level awesome. I stuck to water, but they have plenty of refreshing cocktails and mocktails that scream summertime. The atmosphere is bustling and lends itself well to friends' gatherings. They offer large booths, which I love, in a retro atmosphere reminiscent of a diner. One extra nice touch: when our waitress learned that we were celebrating a birthday she brought out 2 complimentary desserts for everyone to share. That's so damn nice, isn't it?

Yelp
This place is a must! If I lived here, it'd be a regular spot. The spicy margarita hit the mark, and the ceviche (fish and shrimp mix) was fantastic. The chicken sol bowl was fresh and delicious, even though I didn't get what I originally wanted. No regrets, everything was amazing!
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Such a great place! It didn't seem like anything on the menu would've been bad. The tuna ceviche was absolutely fantastic and honestly I could've gotten that as a meal. We had to add some extra plantain chip for a small fee, but totally worth it for the ratio. The salad was extremely fresh and flavorful. The vaca frita was so tasty and a good balance of crispy and tender. The service was also top notch!! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Easily top 5 best restaurants in Charlotte. Easily. Where do I begin man? The food at Calle Sol is SPECTACULAR across the board. Flavor. Freshness. A good option for everyone. Fusion Cuisine. Variety. CONSISTENT. Delicious. This restaurant is located in the Plaza area of Charlotte and focuses on Peruvian/Chinese fusion style dishes. There's alot of Latin American influence in the flavors on the menu but they blend in Asian stir fry tactics to create an explosion of richness and savory goodness. All of the arroz chaufas here are spectacular. Think of Chinese fried rice with Peruvian/Latin seasonings incorporated. You can pick your protein. If rice isn't your thing - try the Tallarín which is essentially a Lo Mein. Same concept - pick your protein - decorated with veggies and flavor. The absolute HIGHLIGHT for me was the market catch of the day. On this particular day it happened to be a grilled Chilean Sea Bass with jasmine rice and a spicy tomato-ish sauce as the base. They have homemade "picante" (spicy) sauces that add spectacular flavor to any dish. Please ask for it and try! The fried pork belly (masitas de puerco) are scrumptious. If you've had "chicharrón de puerco" before - it's very similar. The meat is crispy on the outside and juicy and flavorful on the inside. The cocktails here are also incredibly tasty. I tried the pineapple mint margarita and was not disappointed. It's refreshing and minty without being too sweet or overpowering. I'd compare it to an "agua Fresca" style beverage which is lighter than a smoothie and more natural than soda or juice. The cocktails were the perfect compliment to the delicious food. Toward the end of our meal, the head chef came to chat and ask what he could do better. He wanted our honest feedback which we shared: 100000/10. I can't say enough good things. One of the best culinary experiences in Charlotte. A must try.

Yelp
Pulled up, ordered the Cuban fried rice-which was unbelievable: Lechón, caramelized pineapple, plantains, onions, need I say more? 10/10. But that daiquiri? Life-changing. Ice particles floating on top like a holy blessing. Refreshing, delicious, borderline spiritual. If loving this drink is wrong, I don't wanna be right. Go. Order. Thank me later.

Yelp
Amazing does not do this place justice. The lechon asada is tender, juicy, and flavorful! I will come back to this place every time I come to CLT. I ordered on door dash and the food came quick. Sadly there was no utensils. The next time I come to CLT I will check out this place in person. I can't wait to see the vibe, I hope it is chill. Devoured my food. Sorry no photo.

Yelp
My husband and I had such a great first visit at Calle Sol! There have been many restaurants in this location (The Penguin, NC Red, and a few others), and we are hoping Calle Sol is here to stay. We started with beverages--a club soda with lime for me, and a No Name Mojito with passion fruit for my husband. The mojito was nicely balanced and not too sweet. We tried their Yuquitas de Queso as an appetizer. The yucca was very crispy, and the cheese inside with nicely melted. The green sauce they served it with was exceptionally good, and we used it with our entrees, too. For our entrees, I had the Vaca Frita, and my husband had the Lechon Asado. Both meats were tender, flavorful, and NOT overly salty (yay!). The rice and beans were perfect sides. Their portions are generous, and we were both able to take some of our meals home. Our server was very friendly and helpful. It got very busy when we were there, so another server jumped in to help remove our plates and bring our check. I like how they work to help each other out when busy! A note about parking--there are only a few spots directly in front of the restaurant, so you'll be lucky to get one of them. There's a public parking lot just down the street on Thomas (across from Dish), and street parking throughout Plaza Midwood. We ended up parking on the street near Supperland, a quick walk to Calle Sol. Just give yourself extra time to find a parking spot if you arrive during busier dining hours. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
OBSESSED. My first time trying Calle Sol, I got a 1905 salad. It was good! But I can't really give a place a proper rating based on a salad. Since then, I've been back twice and I fell deeper in love with each trip. Most recently, I tried the Lomo Saltado. If you're in Charlotte, drop what you're doing and get this for lunch. It. Is. Fantastic. Juicy, tender filet mixed with charred crispy vegetables and fries swimming together in the most perfect gravy. I could not stop eating it. The leftovers were just as good the next day. YES. My friends liked the fried rice and tallerin with shrimp. Everything we tried was delicious. This particular trip, we shared a 1905 salad as an appetizer which was perfect for us. Try it if you haven't!

Yelp
We went here in a Saturday afternoon. Parking was a challenge. We had to park on the street. this place was nice we were seated right away. The staff created us and was very knowledgeable about the menu and she even gave us some of her favorites. We ordered drinks and food. I had the shrimp fried rice which was good and very filling. I also had the French toast which was my favorite. It was nice and crispy and it was served with a cup of fresh fruit. The French toast tasted like a churro it was so good!

Yelp
Stopped in here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! The vibe is nice more of a diner set up. Service was quick and friendly. All the food was enjoyable. They have some really good lunch specials. It's cafeteria style (1 entree and 2 sides). Premade and i opted out to take the chaufa (fried rice) and glad i did. It was really flavorful, i think i just really like Peruvian fried rice. It came with a soup, it was a light vegetable soup that really hit the spot. We also tried the Vaca Frida which was really good but maybe a bit too salty. It's on the drier side but the fried onions helped offset the dryness. Also tried the lechon from my girlfriend. Im not the biggest fan of lechon but this was nice. It wasn't as fatty or gamey as some I've had in the past. Overall this is a great spot with some nice meat options ans lunch specials. Parking is easy and free.

Yelp
Unreal. After reading several other 5 star reviews I agree with everything those folks said and more. Food was exquisite. Large portions, fair prices, tasty tasty tasty. We each ordered something different and shared a bite or two and I would have been happy if I ordered any of those dishes. Arepa appetizer was fantastic as was the Cuban bread. I could go on and on but suffice it to say, one of the best restaurants I've been too in a while from the host stand to the server to the food. Only downside to writing this review is that my friends live in the neighborhood and I don't want this place to get too busy, but they earned their five stars for dang sure. They also were smooth with the waitlist (30 mins on the nose) and you can make reservations online. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
What a gem to find!!! This Caribbean restaurant is located in the Plaza Midwood area on Thomas Ave. The place is very eclectic and the vibe is so chill. The workers are extremely nice, helpful, and grateful to have you there. The menu has lots of delicious options and the fact they also have a ready made option (cafeteria style) in the other section of the restaurant makes them very unique for this type of restaurant. The vaca pollo (usually vaca frita (fried shredded beef), but you can exchange the beef for chicken) was very flavorful! The rice was light and fluffy, and the black beans were perfect. Hubby enjoyed his cubano sandwich (customized) and we both ate his maduros. We were both way too full for the desserts to our wonderful waiter Christopher mentioned. We would definitely return if in the area.

Yelp
Cuban Fried Rice (5/5): Great blend of flavors and textures. There was a nice sweetness and smokiness to it. I also really liked the sauce and would get extra next time. Tallerin (3/5): Got this with chicken and thought it was decent. Tasted like a pretty standard lo mein. A little too oily and too many vegetables for me though.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting here but it definitely won't be my last. First of all, my service was spectacular my waiter was so friendly and informative he made my experience really enjoyable. The vibe was casual and cool. I got the pollo frita with fried yuca, and a kiwi mojito. The sandwich was so delicious flavored well, the chicken was cooked well and juicy. So good. I officially love yuca it's so yummy it reminds me of a fluffy yet crispy potato. My waiter also gave me a complimentary cilantro aioli sauce to go with my yuca and it was so delicious! The mojito was good too I wish it had a little bit more of a potent kiwi flavor though other than that I have no complaints! Definitely will be back for lunch again!

Yelp
Food and service is always great! Only one bad experience at the bar with a racist patron , but other than that , foods great .

Yelp
This was my first time in but not the last! A friend and I went for dinner before a show at Ovens. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, the dining room was vibrant (and bigger than I expected), and the food was amazing. I had Arepas and a couple of seasonal cocktails, she had seasonal cocktails and ceviche. All in all, just perfect.

Yelp
This place is fire! It is hard to find good vaca frita where I am from. It was very flavorful and crispy. The salad was excellent as well. I also had to try some fried yucca since that's my favorite dish. It's a fun place too, we came during lunch and due to the lunch special seems to draw a decent size lunch crowd. We enjoyed the back room with all the string lights. One of Charlotte's true gems!

Kiara R.

Yelp
Service was good and my large party was well-accommodated! I really liked the spicy margarita (I can't remember its exact name), but we all agreed that the drinks could use less ice. For the appetizer, I split the classic mixed ceviche with a friend and it was tasty. Several people ordered the vaca frita entree and we all loved it - it was cooked well, flavorful, and just so good. The serving was also huge, so everyone took home leftovers. Would definitely visit again!

Yelp
Drove to Columbia, SC and back and worked up quite an appetizer so decided to have a great lunch at Calle Sol. The cafeteria lunch has alway been my choice of meals. This time I chose Lechon for an entree with salad and black beans. The server at the serving area provided an appetizing description of each item to help me choose my meal. Love this place for a late lunch in Plaza Midwood. Thanks!

Yelp
We were seated directly under an ac vent and it was freezing. The Cuban rice was delicious but a bit salty. My son loved his pork belly so much he wouldn't share. Key lime pie was amazing. Cuban sandwich was good but served lukewarm. Lots of potential but more attention to detail would be great. The main room is much cozier than the back room. Next time I will request to sit somewhere better.

Yelp
Always love finding authentic Latin cuisine and this place for sure is one of them! From ham croquettes, Cuban sandwich and of course Thor Cuban bread!! They also serve alcohol which is a nice treat! Ambiance is very laid back very chill vibes! Prices won't break the bank but not super cheap. Staff was very friendly and energetic! I can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
By FAR 10/10 and worth the wait! The food was top tier, didn't take long to serve. Our waiter was very pleasant. Would 100% recommend and will be back!

Yelp
Great food with unique flavors! It reminds me so much of my grandmas cooking. However I still found flavors I hadn't ever tried in the Amarillo ceviche with white fish which was delicious. The beef was tender and crisp. We drizzled the leftover ceviche juices on the rice which was so yummy. The strawberry cream cheese ice cream with guava drizzle was so flavorful. The vibe inside is beautiful and fun with bright colors and string lights. Our server Victor was incredible with helping us make our food and drink selections along with being so friendly and happy to help. Thanks Calle Sol!

Yelp
SO GOOD!!! Authentic and food was amazing. Portions were huge and price was fair. Great place! I got the Lechón dinner. The Yuquitas Queso appetizer was phenomenal

Yelp
Calle Sol Midwood is a great place to be reminded of or introduced to the great flavors of Cuba (and Peru). I ordered food from the Cuban side of the menu & was quite pleased (black beans, 1205 salad, vaca frita, mariquitas). Service is friendly and vibrant, including recommendations on dishes to try and equal attention to larger groups, take-out customers, and single diners. The fall sangria is delightful if not a bit sweet.

Yelp
this place is amazing! it is one of our favorite spots, whether for takeout or dining in. A perfect blend of fusion from different cuisines without overpowering either one. Get the ceviche! My favorite dish is the chaufa with pork. You can also order takeout direct from their website for pickup which I'm a fan of.

Yelp
Delicious food and such a fun vibe. We enjoyed all the food especially the ceviches - fresh and flavorful. We had the aji Amarillo and Tuna Nikkei - I would have been satisfied right there. We also had the short rib which was huge and the chicken pinchos that were super moist and well seasoned. Our friends had the tallerin with shrimp that they loved. The drinks were great too. We will be back!

Yelp
I've been coming here since they opened as it's a great restaurant in the plaza neighborhood! All the food is consistently delicious and tasty! My favorite cocktail is the Paloma! I will say there is usually a wait so try to call ahead or make a reservation, especially for a big group! This place is definitely a must try!

Yelp
Some of the best dishes I've ever ate from any restaurant in CLT. Such unique dishes full of flavor!! Such awesome exotic vibes and a great staff that was super friendly. I don't usually eat Latin food but absolutely loved it here!

Yelp
Excellent food - best black beans I've had in quite some time. And their cilantro sauce would make cardboard taste good! Service was fast and friendly too. It's a casual Miami vibe with an eclectic exterior and interior! We will be back!

Yelp
This was an amazing experience. Did not know we had this little, authentic spot right here in Charlotte. We sat at the bar, placed our drink orders and went to check out the $13 cafeteria brunch -- 2 entrees and a side (I know, right???...) My Keithy got his plate and I decides to order from the menu, but when we got back to our seats I had this huge meal in a glass and it was the most tastiest! Also checked out other diner's as they passed out table. Everything looked delicious and they were not skimpy on portions

Yelp
An incredible meal. The service was great, checked in as needed, made some great recommendations. Jamal walked us through the menu and made some great recommendations. He was really helpful. The food was amazing. Both of our dishes were cooked to perfection and make me want to find a similar restaurant closer to home. 100% recommended

Yelp
My husband and I had dinner at Calle Sol while visiting Charlotte. We loved the whole experience! The staff were fun, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is delightful and would be perfect for any occasion. We had beautiful drinks that tasted amazing. We shared the carnitas and the chicken chaufa. Both were delicious and we loved the black beans. They were surprisingly flavorful and so yummy! We would highly recommend and if lived in the area it would definitely be a regular spot for us.

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal here! We started with the ceviche. We have had a lot of Peruvian style ceviches, so this was not the best we have had, but we still enjoyed it. Best in Charlotte, I would have to say is at Yunta. I got the Peruvian chicken sandwich. That Cuban bread that it was on was so good! The restaurant itself has a cool setup and I like that they have "cafeteria style" (best way I can explain it) as well as table service depending on what you want. Super cool concept. I would consider eating here again when we visit Charlotte next!

Yelp
Oooooo baby baby callle sol. It took me a year to finally try Calle sol and I'm so disappointed I didn't go sooner. The food is exceptional every single time. The flavor in every single dish is incredible. I like the Cuban vibe the restaurant gives off. It's in a great spot in Plaza with parking on site ... crazy I know. The servers have always been great with checking on me and the food. This spot does not disappoint. If you want a party in your mouth, go to Calle sol.

Yelp
Order: Lechon Asado w/ Sweet Plantains & Tres Leches Summary: Long wait on the day we went but incredible food that was totally worth it. I'd probably pass on the tres leches. Review: My friend and I both love Cuban food so after a different restaurant in the area didn't work out we headed here. In hindsight I'm now glad the other restaurant fell through because this place was incredible. They were also incredibly busy. We waited about an hour to get seated but after that service was very fast. From the time we ordered to the time food hit the table couldn't have been more than 15 minutes. Almost everything was near perfect. The rice was cooked well, the beans were flavorful, the pork fell apart on your fork, and the sweet plantains didn't taste overly sweet. Calle Sol is everything I want a Cuban restaurant to be. In fact, it was so good we discussed going back for lunch the next day. The only food that didn't blow me away was the tres leches and that mas mostly just personal preference. Their tres leches had bananas, dolce de leche, and cookie crumbles on top. It was more like a banana split meets tres leches and I prefer a more traditional tres leches. The waiter did tell me this up front but I still wanted to try it. If the combination sounds good to you then you would probably love it. This was the food highlight of the weekend and I will probably go here every single time I'm in Charlotte.
