Welcome to the neighborhood!
This new Hilton boutique concept (Canopy) takes the place of the Virgin Hotel, following a bitter legal battle with the building owner. So far, not much has changed (which is a good thing).
So far, Hilton has done a filling filling these big shoes! They've already reopened the rooftop bar and coffee shop (formerly Funny Library, TBD if they'll keep the name).
Conveniently located next to the Moscone Center, great for conference goers. The neighborhood is still recovering from the pandemic, but includes a lot of restaurants and bars, and close proximity to downtown, Union Square, and the financial district.
Room rates are surprisingly expensive given the hotel just opened and is almost completely vacant - $300/night, with suites for $750+.
I strongly dislike that they charge a $30/day "Daily Mandatory Destination Charge." Lots of hotels do this, and I'm a firm believer that it is deceptive and should be included in the room mate. According to Hilton, this fee include: premium internet access (which is always free anyway), a daily $30 food and beverage credit (great if you can use it, but if you're staying here, you probably are either eating at a conference or want to check out the awesome local restaurants), and a $25 credit to Tower Tours (great if you actually use it every day, but unlikely you'll find more than one day free to go on a tour.) Tour Tours offers local bus tours, visits to Muir Woods, and several wine tours. I would normally remove 1-2 stars for this, but want to be generous as this is their first week in operation (and I'm not optimistic my single review will change years of deceptive pricing by the hotel industry).
Pets up to 30 lbs are allowed - but there's a steep $125 non-refundable cleaning fee.
Parking is expensive, but that's common for this neighborhood - $69/night for valet parking. Includes in/out privileges. Street parking is not recommended due to (a) frequent break ins and (b) complex street sweeping and meter policies. (Visitors, please remember to remove *everything* from your car. If you park with a suitcase, backpack, or other bag visible, it will be stolen and your glass window will be shattered.) There are a couple nearby lots for the convention center that are much cheaper if you're willing to walk a block or two.
The hotel features a nice fitness center, meeting rooms, business center, on-site restaurant, and concierge.
