"Do you want to know our favorite thing about Caracas Arepas Bar besides the food? I’ll assume the answer is yes since you’re reading this review. It’s not the tall waiter who wears sunglasses inside...though, that guy is indeed the man. It’s the fact that once you get inside this tiny restaurant, the table you’ve been awarded is yours until you want to leave. Unlike most small restaurants where people vie for seats, Caracas doesn’t rush you. They actually encourage you to order little by little and keep eating until you’re happily bloated and full. If you’re in a rush, stop into the Caracas To Go next door - but otherwise settle in for a not-rushed meal in this tiny Venezuelan restaurant in the East Village. They specialize in arepas, which come filled with different combinations of meat, cheese, and beans. The plates and other dishes are very good as well, so don’t skip over those, especially if you’re in a group. It’s a great choice for affordable eats, and works well for vegetarians. Food Rundown De Pollo Arepas This arepa comes filled with grilled chicken breast with caramelized onions and cheddar cheese. We’re kind of surprised more of their arepas don’t come with caramelized onions. They taste like straight sugar. So good. Cachapa with Shredded Beef & Cheese Make sure you order this. It’s easy to get caught up in the arepas and overlook the “Plates” section of the menu. You’ll be sorry, just as we werethe first time we came here and failed miserably by not ordering this tasty corn pancake. It’s got the look and size of a burrito, stuffed to the brim with moist, shredded beef and cheese. Empanadas De Carne Mechada (Shredded Beef) All empanadas are served solo. The shredded beef is excellent. Big, moist and awesome. De Pabellon Arepas Shredded beef, black beans, white salt cheese, and sweet plantains. A heart attack waiting to happen but who cares, it’s worth it. Empanadas De Cazon (Shredded Fish) Skip this. It’s too dry. Empanadas De Pabellon Shredded Beef, Black bean, white salty cheese and sweet plantains - talk about a loaded empanada ... home run. Los Muchachos Arepas Grilled chorizo, spicy white cheese with jalapenos, and sauteed peppers. This one is on the spicy side, and tastes even better doused in that amazing mango hot sauce that you’ll find on the tables. La de Pernil Arepas Roasted pork shoulder with tomato slices and a spicy mango sauce. Don’t miss the only pork arepa on the menu. Juicy and delicious. La Surena Arepas Grilled chicken and chorizo, with avocado slices and the classic and always enigmatic spicy chimichurri sauce. The chimichurri sauce steals the show. Yoyos Fried sweet plantain balls stuffed with white cheese. These are the kind of balls that will make cheese obsessed females completely lose their minds Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally style. Watch out, she might crave balls of a different variety as her main course. FYI, bathrooms are a little tight. Good luck with that. Tajadas Fried sweet plantains with aged cheese. Marquesa de Chocolate If you’re lucky and they actually have it, this is what you’re ordering. The description says it all: layers of thick chocolate mousse and Maria cookies. 100% homemade." - Andrew Steinthal

"Caracas is a small restaurant focusing on the Venezuelan speciality, the Arepa. We’ve probably tried every Arepa on the menu and they are all good. Although small, the turnaround is pretty fast. If you can’t squeeze in you can call ahead and get your order to-go and eat at Tompkins park. Don’t forget the special sauce!" - Champions

Food is always fresh, servers are really nice and friendly. Only didn’t give it 5 stars because there was only one guy for the entire restaurant. I realize it’s not big but I thought the service could be a bit faster if one more person would be working.. other than that, great experience. Definitely recommend.

I visited on Friday night for dinner. We arrived around 8pm and there were few tables available. There were only about 5 or 6 tables inside and it felt very compact. The whole place also felt cheap but cozy. It reminded me of local restaurants in Latin America. The plastic container seemed to be used for the seats and our table was wobbling. . I enjoyed my La Sureña arepas. I liked the slight crunchiness of the tortilla. Chicken, chorizo, avocado, and chimi-churri sauce were all perfect together. I added some salsa on the table, which gave more flavor. I think the portion was decent but I was still hungry after eating one. . Tajadas, the fried sweet plantain was good as well. There were about 10 pieces, and it didn't have any crunchiness to it.

It's slow service but the arepa is authentic , tasty and filling. After a workout, you may crave for a crispy meal that is less plain than a salad, more healthy than a burger. The ambiance brings you to South America.

It's a really small place so don't go there thinking you will stay for too long but it's so authentic and beautiful. The food was so great and it really made me feel like I was back home. They also have vegetarian options like tofu and not all of the arepas have meat in them so everyone can enjoy. The passion fruit mimosas were really refreshing. 👍👌

Excellent food! The place is very small, there are probably around 16 seats inside, but it wasn’t crowded when I visited. The vibe is cute, the waiter was great and the food is really, REALLY delicious!! In case you’re a vegetarian, there are plenty of options, as they offer to swap the meat for tofu on any dish. One appetizer to share and 1 arepa each were enough food for two moderately hungry people, so the price ended up being very reasonable as well. I highly recommend it!

This spot is STRAIGHT FIIIIRRRREEEE! You aint gonna find none of those fluffly yellow street fair arepas up in here! The food is magnificent. Oh and the SAWCE!!! Need that secret recipe bottled up like yesterday. The service is lightning quick. The experience is amazing. The wife and I spent our 6 month married anniversary lunch here. Delicious. Then grabbed a few brews up the block at McSorleys afterwards. It was money. From the religious themes to the food, to the spanish writing on the wall, this cozy joint is As authentic as it gets. Go get you some arepas ASAP

This place is amazing and the food is so tasty!! Great service and ambiance is very relaxed as well. It is a small restaurant so beware of having to wait. It’s worth it though! Also, their sangria is really good!

A very small restaurant with delicious arepas and a good selection of options. The sides are good too. Prices are reasonable and service is friendly. The neighborhood is worth exploring as well.
