Carla Cafe Review - Beverly Grove - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Carla Cafe became famous during the pandemic for stuffing tuna chopped salad into ciabatta. The rest is sandwich-making history. Their shiny brick-and-mortar on Beverly Grove’s West 3rd Street is a cute green dollhouse of space—somewhere you’d meet coworkers for a weekday lunch or frothy latte. Most people, however, use Carla Cafe as a delivery pick-up counter. Whichever applies to you, make sure you’re seated when you eat the highlight of the menu, the messy and delicious tuna chopped salad sandwich splashed with vinegar. We’re also fans of their garlic aioli chicken sandwich, spread with a garlic and parmesan mayo pungent enough to ensure no one in the office will speak to you that afternoon. The rest of Carla Cafe’s daytime menu (they’re only open from 7am-3pm) includes coffee, matcha drinks, and breakfast burritos stuffed with short rib and cheesy eggs, making it a worthwhile pitstop on your morning commute. This stretch of West 3rd Street—one of the most restaurant-dense streets in the city—is oddly short on quick and casual options, so the fact that you can get a good sandwich or salad fast at Carla Cafe makes it all the more useful. Food Rundown photo credit: Sylvio Martins Tuna Chop Biting into this hefty sandwich makes you feel like a toddler eating spaghetti without utensils. Tuna and chopped salad spurt out the sides and coat your fingers and chin. It’s a bit stressful yet quite satisfying. The avocado makes the creamy tuna even creamier, and the chopped pepperoncini adds a nice vinegary heat. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Garlic Aioli Chicken Don’t be skeptical about the pale sliced chicken—it’s juicier than it looks. The ciabatta’s crispy crust shatters like a Kinder Egg, revealing its chewy insides. It’s slathered with a cheese-enriched garlic aioli that keeps things moist and makes every bite of this sandwich taste like the garlickiest garlic bread you’ve been served." - Sylvio Martins

Google
Great food, and I loved the service. They were super friendly and helpful without trying too hard. It was a great experience. The KBBQ breakfast burrito was very unique. I was worried it would be over the top kimchi flavor, but it was nice. The French toast sticks were insane, and the coffee was good too. Music was nice and chill, and at the perfect volume. We’ll be back for sure if we’re in the area.

Where do I begin … Carla’s salads and sandwiches are simply the best in town. The ingredients are always fresh, the proportions are always consistent, and the taste always leaves me wanting more. The classic chopped salad is what I tend to order but my family loves the Rift with artichoke hearts ! You cannot go wrong with anything here … Tuna toast is also a new favorite ! The service is prompt and the space is welcoming. Great delivery and TAKEOUT too (Postmates or Uber eats)….

This place is going to blow up. The Korean BBQ burrito was delicious and well balanced. The French toast sticks are S Tier. Best breakfast lunch spot we’ve been to in a while.

Google
Great spot for coffee and a sando. Actually the Best sandwich I’ve had in LA so far! The Tuna chop was delicious with it’s great mixtures of flavors and textures, get it in the OG Ciabatta! The crust was perfectly thin and crunchy with an airy fluffy dough immaculatley complimenting the sando. Ingredients were fresh and lip smacking tasty with the pepperoncini giving it a nice spicy punch to bring it all together. The service was solid and welcoming. the only thing I found a bit lacking was the atmosphere which was kind of bland and didn’t match the vibe and quality of food and coffee, witch was solid. We also had the French toast sticks and they were a yummy treat to finish up the meal. DO NOT skip this sando if your into any kind of tuna between a couple slices of bread. Shout out to @ricklox on IG for the recc! LOX level 10.10

Clean and modern. The best to come back is the tuna salad sandwich on ciabatta. Outofsight, no kidding. Second trip for brunch: the toasted tortilla breakfast is a solid way to shake off what you did the night before. Eggs, soft and moist. Chorizo (turkey), was a good option Avocado, silky/firm. Say no more. Good and hot, not huge yet filling, get one in your belly as sustainabowl would say (if you know you fing know)

Google
Not to be dramatic but I think the Tuna Chop sandwich on ciabatta changed my life. The flavors meld so perfectly! The vinegar, pickled jalapeños, and pepperoncini are the perfect additions to a tuna salad, the crunch of the ciabatta is out of this world!!! It was about $24 out the door with tax and tip which seems high until I had my first bite and it became worth every penny. I will dream of it until I have it again! The staff was lovely and helpful with recommendations, try a side of their Peruvian hot sauce as well! So fresh with great flavor!

Google
Carla cafe is without a doubt, one of the best sandwich spots in LA. On top of that, they have a killer selection of matcha drinks, iced lattes, pastries and breakfast bites. If you loved your childhood French toast sticks but crave something a bit more elevated - this is the spot, plus the dipping sauce is perfection. All of their sandwiches are delicious, but try to go to their burger nights (announced on IG)

Google
I saw the cute sandwich logo and decided to come here for lunch, and I’m so glad we did! Love the Carla cream top espresso and the garlic aioli chicken sandwich is soooo good, and the ciabatta bread was so perfect. I just wish it wasn’t freezing cold in there, other than that, I loved it!

Yelp
Beautiful cozy cafe with an old world vibe. Friendly, well-functioning, and knowledgeable team. We ordered the house and banana cream matcha drinks. Meticulously prepared and incredible flavor . So velvety and smooth. The sandwiches... unbelievable. The ciabatta bread tasted sublime and was perfectly toasted. The veggies in the tuna were uniformly minced, the chickpeas were a surprise add, and the relish had just the right hint of tang and heat. The grilled chicken with aioli was fantastic. Nice slices of chicken, still moist. Good balance of avocado and freshly shaved Parmesan; the aioli was delicate and just the right amount. Carls just set the gold standard in sandwiches and matcha drinks!

Yelp
Cute brunch/lunch spot on W 3rd! I came in for an early lunch on a weekday. Walking-in, I loved the branding and the vibe of the restaurant. A perfect spot for a casual and light lunch. For drinks I ordered the banana cream matcha. It was on the milkier side but it was still delicious, creamy, and had good banana and cinnamon flavor. However, I wish the matcha flavor was stronger. For food I got the garlic aioli chicken sandwich and it was great! The bread was crispy, the veggies and avocado were fresh, the chicken was juicy, and the garlic flavor was tasty. I would prefer if the sandwich was warmer though. Overall, a great spot for lunch and takeout. I would be definitely be coming back to try the other drinks and food!

Yelp
Carla's cafe is very cute and super delicious! They were nice to make me a latte version of the banana cream and it was amazing! I loved the Caesar wrap- there were just some really big chunks of croutons and only in one side of the wrap- the other half didn't seem to have any croutons. That was my only complaint though- the chicken was perfect, the dressing was amazing and I loved how everything was nice and chopped! My friend really enjoyed her tuna chop and thought the salad mix on it was unique and flavorful. Overall we had a great lunch and I would love to come back and try some of their other dishes!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try the tuna chop and it did not disappoint! The bread adds so much crunch and it was delicious. It was a little acidic but very delish. I would be very curious to go back and try the tuna melt as well as the breakfast burritos. The cookies looked delicious too but I didn't try one today. Service was fast and easy. The inside is super cute with a good amount of tables.

Yelp
Cozy little spot on 3rd st next to the Beverly center that seemed to be super popular with the gen z crowd. The garlic chicken sandwich was good and the chicken Caesar wrap was tasty with some unexpected sweet corn in there. Kinda wild that a matcha drink costs $10+. I'm less offended by the $20 sandwiches because they were actually delicious with fresh ingredients. They messed up our sandwich order but were nice when we pointed it out and offered a free lemonade. Cute ambiance!

Yelp
My obsession with Carla Café runs deep! I highly anticipated their opening and they did not disappoint. Their Matcha is one of the best in the city, the banana cream top equally delicious to their original! The tuna chop is a must, their garlic chicken sandwich on ciabatta almost even better! I absolutely love their garlic aïoli, and the fresh crispy bread. Prices are high, but considering the quality and care, not to mention attention to detail that they provide it is well worth the splurge. The sandwiches are so good I could eat them daily, same goes for the Matcha. Customer service goes above and beyond, they are extremely hard-working here and you can tell they love what they do. Excellent addition to the area, highly recommended!

Yelp
I had been dying to try Carla Cafe due to all the hype, and though my Turkey Bliss sandwich was good, it was a bit on the dry side. The supporting ingredients were all very fresh, but I feel like the addition of balsamic or an aioli would have made this less dry and add a bit more flavor to this Sando. Parking was tough, it'a 3rd Street -- be prepared to circle the block a few times. The interior was small but charming and the customer service excellent!

Yelp
Soooo cute and delicious food! Came for breakfast on a tuesday morning and place was pretty empty. Servers were the kindest! and food came out pretty fast. Everything was delicious, portions were a bit small and kinda pricey but that's LA I guess!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this gem! literally the best matcha... the banana cream is so good! Also tried some food items like the french toast and avocado toast. The price point was great. it's definitely on my favorites list now. I'm eyeing the chicken Caesar wrap and their lunch items. Will update soon, stay tuned!

Yelp
Found this place on Instagram not too long ago and knew I had to try it eventually! This place was bussin! Drinks on point and service seemed fast even though I placed a to-go order. I got the garlic aïoli chicken sandy with an Arnold Palmer and damn was that aioli bomb, the chicken was seasoned nice and the freshest avocado I've ever eaten! Also the chicken Caesar wrap is next level and that might have to be the next thing I get! I'll def be back! 10/10 spot!

Yelp
I first tried Carla Cafe during Covid when it was a popup. So happy they got a store front in a great location. It's a cute casual spot. You order at the register and they call your name and bring your order to you. Plenty of seating inside. We ordered the rift salad and the chicken pesto sandwich. Both were amazing and I would order them again. Also had the cream top and iced cappuccino...both were great! Also if you're kosher, they have kosher chicken and turkey on request. So happy that this opened and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Carla cafe. What can i say. They turn out some of the best food around town! I been to both locations at the colony and 3rd street by the beverly center. The 3rd street location is clean and the crew here is very nice! I got the KBBQ burrito which was good. A must try is the french toast sticks with vanilla sauce which was delicious. The tuna chop sandwich is probably the best tuna i ever had and has a nice hot kick to it due to the jalapenos on it. You can't leave without getting one of the signature drinks! I always get the matcha cream cap with cinnamon on top, just the best! They are open from 7am to 4pm so they close early at both locations. Breakfast is ONLY available at the 3rd street location so know this. It can be a bit pricy has the KBBQ burrito was $22 bucks and matcha was $11.50 so breakfast for just me came close to $50 bucks.. Food rating: KBBQ burrito 8.7/10 Matcha cream cap 9.1/10 Tuna Chop Sandwich was amazing 9.2/10 French toast sticks with vanilla sauce 9.0/10

Yelp
Carla Café presents a larger question for the LA eater: Can a sandwich be worth $20? I feel like this is up to the individual; however, if Carla Cafe's sandwich is not worth it to you, no sandwich in LA will be. If you're gluten free, you do need to try their chicken sandwich at least once.

Yelp
I had tried Carla Cafe when it first started during Covid and it was very good. I came today for the first time to their first sit-down cafe around 2:45pm with my sister. It was busy even though it was the end of the day. They have seating and you order and then sit down. I got the chicken pesto sandwich scooped out which is nice they do scooped out and the cream top. The sandwich was very good and full of flavor. The cream top was one of the best I've had in LA and I think better than Maru. My sister got the rift salad which she liked and I tried a bite and it was good. The sandwiches are pretty similar in price to other places in LA. The service was also good and it didn't take long to get the food. I definitely would come back for lunch.

Yelp
Everything is absolutely fantastic. The kbbq breakfast burrito? To die for. The French toast sticks? Easily top 5 French toast in the city. The matcha latte / with the banana cream top? Best I've ever had. That being said the prices are a little out of control. For a $22 breakfast burrito I at least expect it to have more than 3 tiny pieces of steak / be bigger than a burrito from Del taco. And I know the matcha is amazing quality, but $12 for a matcha is maybe the most I've ever seen anywhere? I won't dock points for the price because I really did enjoy everything I tried, but that being said unfortunately this isn't going to be an everyday place for me (when it otherwise absolutely would have been).

Kelly K.

Yelp
You guys, the chopped tuna is worth the hype. And you have to try the banana matcha! My friend got it with coffee instead, just as good!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
A very cute new cafe that is definitely worth the visit! The decor inside is super cute with tables so it's great for dining in and also if you wanted to bring your laptop and get some work done. I got the Carla cream top which was delicious and I would recommend if you love a good cream top (also the sticker on the cup is so cute! I wish it were waterproof so I could have kept it!) The coffee was at an expected price point for LA but I did feel like the matcha was quite expensive but I didn't try it so not sure if it's worth the price. The food looked amazing so I'll definitely have to try it next time I visit. I also was able to speak to Jessica (the owner I believe?) for a bit and she was so kind! 10/10 would recommend!

Yelp
New place in the 'hood! Carla Cafe, a favorite delivery outlet, has opened a physical cafe in the old Gusto space next to Ginger's ice cream on West 3rd. I discovered Carla during the pandemic and it has been one of my go-to deliveries for lunch. The cafe was bustling today with lots of staff and customers who are all excited for another great food option across from the Beverly Connection and soon-to-reopen Bar Method Weho studio! I had the perfectly made matcha latte and a scrumptious open-faced tuna melt. As a tuna aficionado I can say theirs is five stars. Stop by and show this small local business some big neighborhood love !! Highly recommended

Yelp
I came for soft opening as I like the salads on Postmates sold out of their ghost kitchen. Due to the soft opening the menu was smaller and unfortunately didn't feature salads but I didn't let that dampen my mood. Also due to the soft offering it was quite quiet and a bit vibeless, but it's very clear this place will be vibes central when it is open fully. The burrito was flavorful despite my modification removing the oaxacan cheese and the staff were friendly. I'm excited to come back when the full sandwich and salad menu is available. Visiting other spots on 3rd it's clear Carla Cafe is gonna become super popular quite quickly.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
Overall really good. I ordered for pickup which had some limitations. The store itself is nice but feels unfinished. It needs art / plants to make it a place you want to sit and stay. Also, the menu is taped up front where you order so if you're a newb you're going to hold up the line. Additional menus / a menu board would be excellent. I ordered GAC with extra aioli and pepperoncinis. Did not get the extra side and barely any peps were added / could not taste them, which was a shame bc it def needed an extra punch of flavor. It was otherwise kind of one note and not super flavorful. Ciabatta was nice. Husband got OG burrito which I think he'd give a 9/10. It wasn't cut in half which made it very unwieldy and it fell apart quickly. Other than that delish. Will I got back? At some point but for now for ~20 sandwiches, I don't think it out does other places like bread head or Potato Chips.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Staff was just as amazing! If your in LA you must pop in to this cute sandwich place and yummy breakfast options too. My kids loved the French toast sticks!
google avatar

Dee R.

Yelp
New fav breakfast spot. Was skeptical about the banana matcha but it's so good! Breakfast tostada was great. I would add avocado next time
google avatar

George Z.

Yelp
Easily one of the best sandwiches and breakfast burritos in socal. Matcha was also insane. Avi and Jess (the owners) are even better people!
google avatar

Sarin P.

Yelp
I only dropped in for some coffee and it was a 10/10. The Carla cream top iced latte was perfect. It had the right amount of punch from the espresso and the salted cream top was a sweet surprise. My mother also really enjoyed her cappuccino. The kitchen did seem busy with to go food orders! Will have to come back and try some food. The interior decor was pretty basic, although the color scheme was nice.
google avatar

Cat S.

Yelp
Carla Cafes tuna chop sandwich is to die for! As someone that recently started to like tuna I think this altered my taste buds to a whole nother level. It's not super fishy tasty has the right ratio of sauce and toppings. I think this is probably top 3 sandwiches I have had in Los Angeles! Will be back and maybe will try the Ceasar Wrap since that also seems to be a fan favorite!
google avatar

Caroline s.

Yelp
Omg I'm so happy they opened a cafe on this side of town with take out and dine in service. Will definitely be coming here regularly. The best tuna chop sandwich I have ever had and now they expanded their menu with coffee and matcha . I tried the matcha cream cap for the first time and I loved it. It's not too sweet and has some cinnamon on top .
google avatar

Jesse N.

Yelp
The garlic aioli chicken used to be one of the best sandwiches ever. I tried the new location a couple of times since it's opened and unfortunately, it would appear that this no longer holds true. The photo below shows a rather sad rendition of the sandwich vs. the voluptuous fully loaded versions portrayed on their social media page. Truly sad as I was very much looking forward to this new location.
google avatar

Marcus W.

Yelp
Been following Carla since Covid days. Very happy that they opened a storefront Ordered several things for the office 1) tuna melts - the hit of everyone 2) mini egg tostadas were fresh and crunchy and amazing 3) avocado toast - basic but oh so good Can't wait to see them expand their menu and be there along the way

Penelope R.

Yelp
The tuna chop sandwich was out of this world. I can't name a better tuna sandwich I've had, and you know what, 100% worth the price (which frankly is no pricier than any other sandwich shop in La). The girl behind the counter was lovely and the owner could not have been kinder to the people that approached him. Will be back today, craving the sandwich!
google avatar

Dani H.

Yelp
Everything is perfect here, especially the salted vanilla latte and heuvos rancheros tostada. Service and interior design are also wonderful!
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
Prob best breakfast burrito (KBBQ) I've ever had. Simply delicious. Easy spot for coffee/food

Dakota Rose T.

Yelp
Overpriced and overrated and I strongly recommend people look into the businesses they support (please look at their podcast) strongly do NOT recommend this place
google avatar

Aaron T.

Yelp
My FAVORITE chicken sandwich of ALL TIME . Carla cafe is truly amazing! The food is tremendous, service, staff is friendly and my favorite items are the garlic aioli chicken sandwich and don't sleep on the chicken Cesar wrap! It's delicious! The tostada is delicious, Carla cream top with espresso is heaven.
google avatar

Jade M.

Yelp
One of the priciest matchas I've ever purchased (11.50) and that says a lot living in Los Angeles. Was it worth it? Yes. My friend is a matcha connoisseur and has said for many years that the brand they use is her favorite (she first tried it in Japan). I even bought it for her as a gift and was surprised that it was such a small can for $50! But how exciting that they're using it at Carla Cafe, truly authentic. I've always gotten their tuna chop, which I love. But this time I ordered breakfast items. Burritos were good, but trust the other reviews when they say go for the French toast and matcha. Worth the 11.50 if you have the extra change.
google avatar

Kady S.

Yelp
Banana matcha is the best damn drink I've ever had, SO so so good. Sandwiches are great as well
google avatar

Melissa N.

Yelp
Cute shop, nice staff but INCREDIBLY overpriced. I am all for paying fair wages/etc.. but would honestly suggest they just up-charge the food even more to offset the drink costs if absolutely necessary. $8.25 for the smallest matcha I've ever received. Would advise skipping this place until they make changes.

Lauren N.

Yelp
Carla Cafe is truly one of the best sandwich shops. The best one is the tuna but I have tried every sandwich they have and all of them are great. The aioli is amazing. The only thing I have ordered that I wasn't the biggest fan of is the caesar wrap and my only complaint is that they don't have an option to order the tuna without tomatoes. If you haven't had Carla cafe, you need to try ASAP!
google avatar

Freddy I.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying Carla Cafe is the best thing that has come to 3rd Street in Beverly Grove! Delicious Food and The Service That Avy gives can not be found anywhere, her interpersonal skills are exemplary! Carla Cafe is extremely lucky to have her! Love The Tuna Fish Sandwich 2nd to None!
google avatar

George T.

Yelp
How are these sandwiches so good‽ We've tried the chicken aioli, chicken pesto and the tuna and couldn't get enough from the bread to quality protein to the flavors.the French toasts sticks were a triumph. Matcha - solid.
google avatar

Justin K.

Yelp
The best restaurant I've been to in Los Angeles hands down! The food is fresh and delicious! I love this place
google avatar

Krista C.

Yelp
Yum ! Best chicken pesto .... Pricey but puhrfffect !!!!! It's a little influencer heavy but the sandos never disappoint

M K.

Yelp
This place is overrated and hyped up for no reason all bcuz they go an pretend on their instagram.. I came here to try their chicken wrap which I've been wanting to try to for longest and left disappointed. You will get a bunch of lettuce wrapped in a tortilla, 4 piece of chicken and 2 croutons!!! They sure act like you are herding your moneys worth online while they make their own food but it's all an act. Do better Carlacafe

Al G.

Yelp
Just ordered French toast, the server was curt and cold like the French toast. Hard pass coming back here.
google avatar

Tara Y.

Yelp
We had the chicken sandwich, tuna sandwich and matcha latte. My friend enjoyed her tuna sandwich , but my chicken aoli was really lacking something (maybe more sauce? peppers? like the flavor just wasn't really there). Also, when did matcha lattes become $11?! That's just ridiculous, it's literally milk and powder.
google avatar

Simon O.

Yelp
Food is decent but not sure why it took 30 minutes to get a salad on a very slow day. ‍

Athena C.

Yelp
Sooo overpriced and took forever. We went in for lunch and it took 25 minutes to get our salad and sandwich. The salad is clearly premade and the tuna came on the side, not exactly sure what took 25 mins to prepare when it was just out of the fridge. The sandwich was fine but 1/2 the portion it should have been. Both were served in to-go wrapping and it took so long to get our food. In a city of overpriced lunch cafes, there are plenty of other places I would rather spend $50 for a sandwich and salad. Do not trust your local influencers saying this place is amazing. Average ingredients at above average pricing. You'll get a better lunch up the block at California chicken cafe for half the price.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Chopped salad - terrible! So many red onions. Dressing was just red wine oil. Cheap ingredients. Tuna melt was good. Rude staff.
