Sweetie and I are in Brooklyn celebrating his birthday. We walked up to Carmine's from our cute little hotel, passing approximately 20 weed/smoke shops, as well as bakeries, coffee shops, and a bookstore. Have I mentioned how much i love this town?
Carmine's is the pizzeria you imagine when you say, in a longing and wishful tone, "man, I want some real NY pizza." The pizza counter has a generous variety of types. I got the eggplant slice and the wood fired Grandma Tri-color, sweetie got the spinach-artichoke on a Sicilian-style crust, and a slice of caprese too.
The caprese was studded with 2 types of whole olives and halved cherry tomatoes. The eggplant was practically thin as potato chips, crisp where they stuck out of the cheese. The tri-color with a big swatch of pesto was indescribably delicious. The spinach slice tasted so fresh, the flavors of the spinach and the artichoke both coming through clearly. The regular, wood fired, and Sicilian-style crusts each had their own distinctive weight, texture, each a mix of chewy and crunchy in a different way.
I regret that I cannot live in this dining room for the remainder of my natural life.
As for the small details: it's clean and nice. The bathroom was spotless. There are no stairs to enter, so it's as handicap-accessible as anywhere in NY. There's no parking whatsoever; just take Metro and save yourself the headache. The G and the L both would work.
