The Best Tacos in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"The small taqueria inside Carniceria Ramirez Mexican grocery store serves double-tortilla tacos and platters seven days a week. The tortillas are made fresh here, too. Try the carne asada platter with rice, beans, and a salad for around $13, or order tacos like carnitas, chicken, or tilapia for around $3 each. The taqueria also serves tortas, burritos, menudo on the weekends, and tamales between November and February." - Eater Staff

Carniceria Ramirez - Review - Upper Westside - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"It’s easy to get sidetracked by the entire aisle of hot sauces (fellow hot sauce lovers will understand) while you’re walking through this Upper Westside Mexican grocery store. But the smells and sizzling sounds of meat help realign our focus, which is getting to the back room. The small space, with just an order counter and a lone folding table, heavily hints that to-go orders are encouraged. They’ve got tortas and burritos, but you should get tacos, which are the best thing on the menu. Choose from eight protein options (go with flavorful barbacoa and chorizo) placed inside double corn tortillas and topped with onions and cilantro. For quick and tasty Mexican-style tacos to take home with your hot sauce haul, Carniceria Ramirez is a worthy stop. photo credit: Cameren Rogers photo credit: Cameren Rogers" - Juli Horsford

Google
Good food. Good friendly service. Will eat here again. Burritos and tacos were very good, that's all I've tried so far. Quick and easy to order and go. Tables there if you wanna eat there.

Google
This authentic Mexican place is run by a family. On one side is bodega, the other is taco joint. They toasted tacos to get a slightly crispy. The tacos were flavorful, the sauce was nice. The quesadilla was awesome. Menu is simple. And everything I had so far was good. It’s a take out only kinda place but they do have a couple tables to sit and wait.

Google
$79 for 10 tacos, rice, some chips out the store and 2 packs of plastic silverware (1.49 each) idk if they charge non Spanish speaking people more because we don’t know what they’re saying, but I will NEVER spend money there again!! (Taco shells tasted stale and took a long time to chew)

Google
This place is definitely a hole in the wall, but nevertheless it boasts authentic Mexican flavors for an extremely reasonable price. The tortillas and meat are cooked to perfection, and the salsas are packed with flavor and spice. Never would have guessed that this place would be so good, I’ve passed by countless times on my way to Publix, and would definitely challenge people to get out of their comfort zone and enjoy a meal from here.

It was my my first time sending money overseas and with me not knowing Spanish the lady clerk had helped me greatly. While I was there I grabbed some of their delicious dishes

Google
The foods amazing and the people are really nice. The store offers great drinks and snacks too. Absolutely recommend if you’re in Atlanta, it’s a nice hole in the wall restaurant with quality food for a cheap price.

Google
Another dime. This place is tiny without much seating, but tables open up quickly. The menu is super simple a few entrees and a nice selection of tacos and burritos. The quality and flavors are super tasty. This is a real deal Mexican place, with a nice small grocery attached. Make this a must visit, if you are seeking the real stuff.

Google
Food was good though could have used a little more seasoning. Not to oily and honestly these were the first corn tortillas I've had that were kind of light on the corn flavor. I prefer flour tortillas and don't really care for corn so to find some that were a little lighter was nice. The green sauce was also good and most importantly the tacos were great price wise by comparison to restaurants in the surrounding area.

Yelp
The epitome of hole in the wall but that's not always a bad thing-but maybe sometimes... Service is quick and pleasant enough. The fish was good; tacos hit or miss. The pastor was flavorful but dry, the chicharrón too tough to chew, asada was good, as was the chorizo. With all the option in the area it seems risky to not step it up a tiny bit.

Yelp
FIVE STARS for what the place is. You come for cheap tacos to-go (they do have a couple tables) and friendly neighborhood faces. Not for a group dinner or insta vibes. But they are super nice and don't mind if you order in english or spanish. If you're not an asshole they are very welcoming! I recall showing up as they JUST switched off the open sign and she still let us in to make an order. I love this place. Barbacoa is supreme. I also love the asada and chorizo. They can be a bit spicy (I love spice so idc) but the barbacoa is not spicy really. Ask for extra salsa verde because it's so damn good! Also: jumbo sized extra cold mexican coke. It's literally dangerous that this spot is in my neighborhood. $15 lunch of 3 sizable filling tacos and a huge coca cola just makes my day

Emma B.

Yelp
I would literally sell my soul for the carne asada tacos I eat them like twice a week. Amazing. Period.

Yelp
They only serve to go orders. Extras are very minimal, service is standard. Flavors are there, food was very fresh!

Yelp
Best tacos in the area. Real Mexican street tacos. Prices are good, and the ladies at the taqueria are the best!

Yelp
It's 5:16 PM on Saturday and I just showed up here for dinner because all of the great yelp reviews. There are no cars in the parking lot. I went in and found that all of the tables were stacked and one woman was standing behind the counter. I asked her if the restaurant was takeout only and she just stared at me as if I had not communicated clearly what I was asking. I asked again and got the same response. It occurred to me that perhaps he died and that she could not see me even though I still thought I was alive. Somewhere within 20 minutes of where I'm sitting right now there is a Mexican restaurant that is open welcoming and has Modelo beer. It's not here.

D G.

Yelp
Walked in, spoke to the cashier in the grocery area, no response, walked into the kitchen area 2 people looked at me, said nothing, I don't spend money where I'm not greeted... won't speculate as to why, as a fellow business owner my staff greets EVERYONE period... they should learn that if they want to make money and expand their customer base...

Yelp
As authentic as authentic gets. Tacos were delicious and reasonably priced. Love the attached market.

Yelp
This place is hidden across from the Publix Shopping center. It does not look like much on the outside but inside of the resturant is clean and has a plexiglass. I did try to call in my order but for some reason I could not get through. I am unsure it was on the hook or not. The food was done in 10 minutes with fresh ingredients. The sauces that come with it are fresh & hot. Will come back again.

Yelp
If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant to sit down and have an experience, don't come here. Everything is made to go and I don't think they even sell beer. But if you are looking for authentic Mexican food and possibly the best tacos in the city, this is the place you need to be. I usually come during lunch hours and have never waited more than 10 minutes to get my food. Definitely my favorite taco spot now and I'd recommend 100 times

Jalyn S.

Yelp
I been going to this place for 2 years now and they have never disappointed me. I will only eat tortas from here. The people are nice and service is quick and fresh. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Best tacos Hands down!! The tacos are so good and flavorful. I always get the chicken and my husband gets the steak or chicken. We come here often. A hidden gem!!

Yelp

Patty C.

Yelp
I found this place through this Yelp app. Tacos were hands down amazing! Simply delicious. I ordered the steak tacos. The only negative critique I would give this place is the frontage to this establishment is not exactly inviting, and I entered through the store side and not the restaurant side because it didn't look like the other side was an entrance. I almost left as soon as I walked in because I felt like I was lost . But the cashier in the store was very nice and directed me to the restaurant area. I very much enjoyed my lunch and glad I got tacos here. These were some of the best tacos I've ever eaten.

Yelp
I love this place!! Their al pastor tacos with the salsa roja are hands down the best!

Yelp
LOVED THIS PLACE and the owner was great. Make sure to try the full menu. So tasty. Very authentic.

Yelp
I wish I could recommended this place more. I have been coming to this place weekly for two years. Consistently the same quality, the people are super nice and considerate. Food is ungodly good. Nothing crazy or out of the ordinary but they make the basic Mexican food items to perfection. Corn tortillas for tacos, perfection. Burrito is a little hard to hold because they fill it with all the good stuff. 10/10 an amazing place that I hope sticks around for years to come.

Michael T.

Yelp
Best tacos in atl. Nothing flashy but the food is fantastic. Take it to go or just eat it in the car. Highly recommend.

Yelp
These are hands down the best tacos I have ever had in my life and the best tacos in all of Atlanta. It's a hidden gem but the tacos are cheap and so so good. I will literally never suggest anywhere else for tacos. Don't come looking to get TexMex (cheese dip, margs, and guacamole) this is the real deal (corn tortilla, salsa verde, cilantro, and onions). Taco heaven. I would trade my first born for a taco. I would commit a crime for a taco. I would do anything for their tacos.

Yelp
The high rating might be due to the fact that I live about 5 minutes from here but the food is still amazing! The first time I went, it was a Sunday around 6pm and it was empty in both the taqueria and the Carniceria aside from the cashiers. They only had two types of meat, barbacoa (beef) and carnitas (pork). My boyfriend and I were skeptical but we decided to go ahead and try them. They were amazing! After checking when they were busy on google, we figured that they would have more meat choices on a weekday at lunch. We went around noon on a Wednesday and it was pretty much packed with construction workers, a few business men and a group of college students. They had the carne asada (steak), al pastor (spicy pork) and chicken which were the ones that my boyfriend and I have been wanting to try. They were all delicious. They give you the salsa(?) on the side if you're a to-go order so the tortillas don't get soggy, and the taco is a bit dry without it. But the meat is cooked nicely and seasoned well. We also went at 11am on a Thursday and it was fairly empty so we were served much faster. I think they had chorizo that day but we stuck with the same meats as the last time. My favorite is definitely al pastor (spicy pork) but you can't go wrong with any of them!

Yelp
THE best tacos that I have ever tasted!. My husband and I come here for lunch on a regular basis and it is consistently delicious. I always get the chicken tacos and he always gets the steak tacos. The meat is cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the corn tortillas are just as tasty. They do not skimp on the cilantro and lime. This place has spoiled me. I have tried at least 10 different places in the Atlanta area (not to mention all the other places I have eaten at across the US) and have not found street tacos that compare to these.

Yelp
Everything here is FIRE! They are pretty fast and efficient as well. And I love that they are within walking distance of me!

Yelp
Omg!!! I love this place great tacos I finally found som authentic Mexican tacos spicy but just right decent amount of beef and the sauces just perfect. A hidden gem.
google avatar

Laura T.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. All of the tacos we have tried have been delicious and so filling. They stuff the tacos and provide the best sauces. I highly recommend this carnicería!!
google avatar

Jordan D.

Yelp
Had higher hopes. No chips and salsa? The chicken was sub par.. not very seasoned... same with the rice and beans. The tortillas were incredible, though. While it is authentic.. there is better authentic mexican food in Atlanta.

Quynh T.

Yelp
Great tacos! I love the asada but the chorizo, carnitas and al pastor are also delish. Great price, very authentic tasting. Be sure to ask for the red salsa if you like it spicy!
google avatar

Stephen R.

Yelp
Hole in the wall spot but it's amazing. Some of the best tacos ever. My go to is the chorizo taco and al pastor taco. They do tamales on sundays.

Cody W.

Yelp
High quality tacos with good service. Prices are reasonable even though they are a little higher now than what they say on the menu on here.

John G.

Yelp
Fantastic tacos. Authentic too - cilantro onion and lime. I got the asada. The salsa verde had kick to it. "Hole in the wall", attached to the grocery store which means you know it's gonna be good. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
As 'hole in the wall' as it gets. This is a tiny grocery store which has a taqueria connected to it located out on the edge of Atlanta and Smyrna. It's surrounded by abandoned buildings so its certainly off the grid in terms of location. Once you get there, you'll find a menu written on the dry-erase board. They had a small but varied menu: from tacos and burritos to chicken wings and rice plates. I came here for one thing though: tacos! I ordered two kinds: 1) Asada, steak (this is how I like to compare tacos) 2) Chicharron, pork skin The tacos were prepared authentically: double corn tortilla, cilantro, onion, lime, and salsa verde. They were pretty good; however, the tortilla was a little off. It was chewy (the stale kind of chewy) which might be because I came in a bit after typical lunch hours. The asada was flavorful but the chicharron was unbearably salty. Would I come back? If I were in the area, definitely. But if you're planning on traveling, there are better options out there.

Carlos C.

Yelp
Awful! Found a piece of hair in my damn tacos! Unacceptable! Never going back there again. There was flies everywhere, and the server didn't use any gloves while making the tacos.
google avatar

Dejon S.

Yelp
What a find! This restaurant is behind the new Publix and attached to a small market and the food is phenomenal! We stopped to check out the market's meat and produce selections (also top notch) and decided to grab food while there. We ordered two tortas -- chicken and carne asada. Both were cooked to perfection and assembled using quality ingredients, producing great flavor and textures. The staff was friendly and easy to work with. Lastly, it took less than 10 mins from order to eat. Everything was quick, easy, and memorable. I highly recommend you stop by and sample the menu. We'll be back!
google avatar

Alexander Y.

Yelp
Best local tacqueria in ATL. Authentic tacos made fresh right in front of you. Grab a Mexican Coca Cola while you wait. Super friendly staff. True hidden gem

Scott M.

Yelp
I was told about this a couple years ago by a neighbor. I finally stopped by last week to give it a try. Since then I've had tocos for three more meals. Tonight I'm going to try a burrito. I can give it enough praise!
google avatar

Matthew L.

Yelp
They have delicious, quality food at good prices. Everything I've ordered here has been great. All the food they use is fresh because the owners run a grocery store and butcher shop next door. On top of the food, the people are super nice. This is my new go-to for Mexican food.

Aranza G.

Yelp
if you want some REAL tacos, this is a great spot. Hole in the wall-ish but who cares? Tacos were delicious, my friend loved her burrito. Everyone who worked there was super friendly. It's also a half grocery store, which was nice bc I found some great Mexican snacks i can't get in my city.

Anonymous U.

Yelp
I went here to order some authentic mexican tacos. The place is really small and quiet. Before heading inside the restaurant area I passed through the produce. There was a limited amount of fresh meat and vegetables at a very high price. There was a butcher smell inside the entire location. I was not able to order anything because this restaurant did not have any meat for a simple order of 3 tacos. The menu is able to give you the impression that there is a variety of tacos and meals but when it came time to order they had none of the ingredients at hand available. I also did not like the customer service provided at this location.

Nick R.

Yelp
Absolute favorite for tacos and burritos - authentic recipes, ingredients, and preparation, completely different from the standard Tex-Mex restaurant where they drown everything in cheese and lettuce. And the people are wonderful - salt of the earth, warm, and friendly. LOVE this place!
