Carruth Cellars Urban Winegarden & Cheese Shop: Liberty Station

This is, literally, one of our favorite places in San Diego. Either for a Saturday afternoon hang out, or a date night place to relax, Carruth is ideal. It has it’s own courtyard, tucked away from the foot traffic of liberty station. It also has a bar / interior space that is, frankly, liminal, being some where near eccentric and cozy, all at once. The patio is dog friend (big bonus in my book), with multiple types of seating options and seems to handle multiple small groups with ease. The staff has always been knowledgeable, and always cheery. They have a narrow variety of food options, but the ones you’d expect with wine typically. Unexpected is a grilled cheese sandwich that makes you throw rocks at your childhood standard. Hard to manage, and harder to quantify, and sounding a bit ridiculous when I say it out loud, but they get the vibe right. It’s never raucous, but also, never pretentious. There’s always a wide variety of The wines are, no joke, good amongst the many place we’ve been. Enough so we became members.

Good place to have quick bites and savory wines! Since tables are outdoors you feel safe. On weekends they'll have a band, sometimes with music that invites to people to start dancing. The food is good and savory. I've tried the turkey pesto panini, light and the pesto is delicious; th arugula beet salas for those who like a sweet taste, caramelized pecan nuts enhance the combination with the arugula, beets and goat cheese. The charcutery has a great selection of cheese. It's really good. Service is excellent and fast. Will keep coming to this place and I recommend it.

A great place for wine tasting! Tailor your own tasting flight, maybe add in a cheese plate or a sandwich. Good times! Definitely going back.

I love coming here for date night or with friends! The patio is dog friendly, there's music a couple times a week, the food is great and the environment is beautiful and relaxing. I joined the wine club and it literally pays for itself after a month.

Super cool place and kind of a hidden gem... they have a cheese shop inside and some great wine. We also got lucky as they had live music and a fresh pizza stand. Overall I highly recommend this place

Love coming for Tuesday Jazz night! The Carruth Cellars private label Zinfandel is one of my favorite wines. The patio is great and we always get served with a smile 😊

Love the new location! The addition of the cheese shop is wonderful. I can't wait until they start serving pizza again. We had a wine flight, a crustini flight, and a cheese flight. So good, sitting in the sun and enjoying a beautiful San Diego Saturday.

Accordingly to google the name of this place is actually Carruth Cellars Urban Winegarden & Cheese Shop. It's located in Liberty Station and is very cute. It's order at the counter style so you're given your wine + an order number up front and your food items are brought out to you once ready. There is seating both inside and outside with plenty of space for small and big groups. Although it was a grey day when we went, we sat outside on some very comfy patio furniture. We ordered a few glasses of wine (they also have tasting flights) and 2 cheese boards, which were way better and bigger than expected. The wine was pretty good too. Great place to hang out with friends or family, especially because you'll actually be able to chat outside since it's not too loud.
