Casa Carmen Flatiron

Casa Carmen is an amazing Mexican restaurant. We started with guac and chips and they were so good. My only small criticism is that the portion could be bigger because we had to order another one. That’s how good it was. I had the rib taco and my friends absolutely loved their food too. Everyone ordered something different and everything was great.For drinks, of course I had a Mezcalita Rocks margarita and I highly recommend it. We also had churros for dessert and they were delicious.I will definitely be coming back again very soon.

Casa Carmen has a great atmosphere for elevated Mexican cuisine. A bit on the pricier side, but everything was delicious. The margarita is great, the guacamole is fresh, and as someone with a dislike for cilantro, they graciously accommodated. My friend and I ordered and split two versions of enchiladas (verdes, Xico/mole). My friend preferred the verdes while I preferred the mole so to each their own! Personally, I would definitely reorded the mole enchiladas when I return. Great spot if you're craving Mexican food and are looking for a slightly elevated dining experience.

An excellent Mexican brunch spot! I loved their take on eggs Benedict, and their service was fantastic – fast and friendly. Highly recommend!

I recently dined at Casa Carmen and had the pleasure of being served by Franco from the moment we sat down, he was attentive and friendly. He promptly took our drink orders. He was knowledgeable about the menu and patiently answered our questions, offering helpful recommendations. Our food arrived quickly and was exactly as ordered. We started with the tostada de cangrejo which was spectacular. I had the ribeye and it was perfectly cooked. And throughout the meal, he checked on us regularly, ensuring we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Franco excellent service truly enhanced our dining experience. He was professional, courteous, and made us feel welcome. I highly recommend Franco and will definitely be back to restaurants not only for the food but also for the great service!

8 of us met up for dinner in the height of a heavy snowfall on December 26th, 2025. We were able to find parking right on the street where this restaurant is located. We shared a few apps like the Garnachas Orizabenas, and a few other tacos, Ceviche and the corn which was really good. Service was good, quick and everything tasted well.

Honestly disappointed. the guac was so bland we had to ask for salt and lome to make it edible. the chile relleno lacked any semblance of seasoning and the rice and bean portion were tiny. Will say the drinks are good but not a bargain. was expecting more.

Great experience with this Flatiron area Mexican restaurant. Beautiful space, creative menu, and thoughtful service throughout. The menu draws on sophisticated Oaxacan flavors and much more than a taco/burrito joint. Enjoyed the unique cocktails as well.

As a Mexican I can say this is the best and most authentic Mexican restaurant in New York. Just top notch food, drinks, service and ambiance. Not cheap but worth every penny. I will be back!

We enjoyed an early Friday dinner at the bar. The bartender was great! Mixed excellent drinks and was very helpful with menu recommendations. We had the guacamole which was excellent (better be in a Mexican restaurant) and the tuna for appetizers. Both were delicious, but the star of the show were the amazing sauces that were brought out which we asked to keep for our entrees. I had the poblano peppers and my husband tacos. We both really enjoyed our meals! The bar was cool, and the rest of the restaurant was beautiful. Nicely decorated and cozy.

Trying to find a Mexican restaurant with good food AND a good ambiance is tough in NYC. Come to Carmen's for the ambiance but not the food. It's a great place to grab a drink or kill time with people that has a clean aesthetic and the food presentation is nice. But the food lacks flavor. The guacamole was a bit underwhelming and too mushy and watery for my taste. The chips are fried tostadas. A lot of places do this and it's kinda hip. But just plain triangle chips would hold the guac or salsa just fine. My biggest gripe with Carmen's is the portion size as well as the lack of seasoning on the chicken. The chicken in the enchilada was just boiled chicken breast. It sounds like an exaggeration but it's very true. Just plain shredded white chicken breast that was very chewy and got stuck all in my teeth. Plus, it was cold! We had to ask them to reheat our food. This is a great place to hang out. Just don't expect much from the food.

I went to this relatively new fancier Mexican restaurant; which happens to also have another recently open location in Tribeca; around a week ago with one of my groups. The prices are a bit high but hey it's Tribeca and the flavors were overall solid with a more interesting menu containing dishes such as panuchos and fideo with a particularly good mole which is what they are advertising here mostly. The woman serving us was very friendly refilling waters whenever it was needed and put up with the person next to me and she was nice enough to even separate the checks at the end for our group of six as the place wasn't super crowded which was very appreciated. I didn't have a drink even though the cocktail menu looked delicious with most drinks being between $17 and $20 outside of $25 cocktail presumably using some fancy aged mezcal or tequila. It's nice to see a Mexican spot in particular with a lot of mezcal cocktails and I'd likely stop by for one of those and an appetizer another time. Another person had the banana old fashioned wish they thought was excellent. I started with the Panuchos Yucatecos with cochinita pibil, refried beans, pickled onion, and habanero for $18 which came with three reasonably sized pieces. Panuchos are uncommon here and you can kind of think of it as being an inside out version of a tostada with the beans inside instead of being on top. The pork was tender and delicious and there was a bit of sourness from the pickled onions and a little bit of spice from the habanero though I think there could have been a bit more heat which was a bit of a theme throughout the meal but I understand them not wanting to make dishes too well picante for the crowd. There was a salsa that was served though I'm not sure if this was with my dish or the other person's but it worked well with the panuchos. The only other appetizer ordered was the Trio de Quesadillas with melted Oaxaca cheese and seasonal vegetables which is normally $18 but they added steak for some reason so it was $28 I believe (she did warn it would be a lot more.) I didn't try it outside of the tender steak but he liked it and it came with two regular quesadillas and one made with blue corn which was a fun spin. My main dish was what they specialize, mole, which is available either as enmoladas or as pollo con mole. Enmoladas simply is enchiladas topped with mole sauce and is my favorite preparation for said sauce. In this case, this dish comes with your choice of chicken or vegetables, mole Xico, crema, cotija cheese, and refried beans and comes in at $28. Mole Xico apparently refers to a mole found in that town in Veracruz and is by comparison slightly sweeter. Said enomladas de pollo was delicious here and not too sweet with a light bit of bitterness from the chocolate and there was plenty of shredded chicken in there. I got it without crema and it was delicious and worth the price though I would say I prefer the more spiced variants of dark mole but this was well balanced. Another person got what I got and some of the others got the more standard Pollo Con Mole Xico comes with a piece of boneless leg and thigh along with sesame and a side of Mexican rice and refried beans and I'm not exactly sure which dish gives you more chicken though that dish might be more filling. The other two got the Enchiladas Verdes with chicken or vegetables, tomatillo salsa, crema, cotija cheese, and refried beans for $2 less. I tried a bit of their verde which was tasty and not too sour from the tomatillos though I preferred my sauce. For dessert, I had the Tres Leches Con Fresas or moist milk cake with strawberries for $14 which also had a whipped cream on top which tasted faintly of strawberries also. The portion size was fine and this was just okay. It was much less sweet by comparison than what I used to which is a good thing though I would say it was a lot less moist. I tried something else which was better which was the Pastel de Elote with warm corn cake and ice cream which is the same price. The cake had a good texture and there was some dulce de leche or something else on top to make it a bit more sweet. The ice cream on the side was banana I believe though from what I can tell from the other person ordering, you could likely switch it up for another one of the daily flavors but I'm not sure. There was also a special which was a chocolate cake which someone else enjoyed. At the price point, I prefer a few other spots such as La Contenta Oeste and Ruta Oxaca for instance but it was still good and better than some of the other fancier Mexican spots such as Empellón Taqueria. I'd probably go back here to try more of the unique small plates or maybe try another one of the main dishes as I would prefer not to pay the same prices for two tacos regardless of the quality. The space is nice, the people are friendly, and the food while pricey was still well flavored. Would go back. Low 4

We were craving Mexican for dinner, so we found Casa Carmen. A decent spot for elevated Mexican food. Started with the ceviche verde, which was excellent - so fresh and tasty. Tacos de ribeye were incredible. Cooked perfectly, dripping with juice, and served with an incredible green salsa. Enchiladas verde were kind of a miss. The chicken inside was cold and kinda dry. Wish we got more tacos instead of this. I got the pastel de elote corn dessert to go, and it was a great sweet treat. The caramel and banana ice cream went so well together. There are lots of whole corn kernels within the cake itself, which wasn't my favorite but didn't stop us from polishing all of it off. The restaurant is well decorated with a cozy, upscale vibe.

Came by for a drink and dessert after dinner. Cocktails were not good, the Banana Old Fashion is as full of syrup almost undrinkable and disgusting. My stomach was crying. Truffle Creamed Corn was okay. Churro was cute and good and delicious. Flan was quite dense not sure if it's normal?

Had a nice dinner with a group of friends. Solid spot for tacos, guacamole, drinks, etc. would definitely come back when in the mood for the food.

I went to Casa Carmen for brunch with a group of friends, it's an amazing Mexican restaurant with authentic ingredients and wonderful service. I'd highly recommend trying the quesadillas and the pancakes for appetizers, both were absolutely delicious. I also had the Chilaquiles with an over easy egg added on top, it was great. If you're craving authentic & delicious Mexican food then look no further!

Phenomenal food, amazing service, plenty of seating! Plenty of vegetarian options with More of a modern touch on Mexican food. The drinks were well made and delicious. Every single entree was so flavorful and spiced. Corn was my favorite! Definitely a hidden gem, and would highly recommend this place!

The food was fairly tasty but all the portions were crazy tiny and the entrees felt incomplete so struggle to give it that high of a rating. For instance, the fish entree I ordered was cooked well but was literally just a piece of fish in sauce without any sides or anything else on the plate. And for the price point and how much we ordered, and how hungry we still were after we left, it would be hard to justify returning. All that said, if you do come here, we enjoyed the crab tostadas and the corn truffle side, which we found unique. They take reservations on resy. We were able to walk in without a reservation but got the last two seats at the bar. If you want a table, I would recommend making a reservation.

Searched for upscale Mexican in this neighborhood and found this location. The restaurant is very attractive and welcoming with two dining areas dimly lit for a cozy experience. The wine list is on an iPad, making it a fun and interactive way of choosing the perfect pairing. We started with the guacamole which was rich and silky smooth. The tostadas were generously heaped with crab and tasted fresh. We ordered a pea stuffed appetizer special that was unique and quite good. The chicken was nice but neither of us loved the Xico mole sauce. It was very chocolatey and just didn't work for us. Overall we enjoyed the experience and would come back to try more of the menu.

Wednesday 6pm I went back for the 2nd time and it didn't disappoint, if anything , it was an even better experience starting at sitting at the bar to avail of their happy hour specials where I noticed the space at the right with the high chairs and tables ( I would like to dine there next time ). We were a group of 6 and I made a reservation for 5 . Thanks for the manager for finding a way to accommodate as it was a client dinner . We shared a few appetizers- crab tostada and nachos with guacamole. I had the steak for dinner ( the sauce and the fresh tortilla is the perfect pairing and while it didn't seem like the biggest dish , was definitively filling ). Dessert consisted of the tres leches and churros . This will certainly be a go to spot for me based on good service , great ambiance and amazing food ! ( a popular place that I run into a friend who is a travel sales manager for a big hotel group in nyc )

The ambience and interiors are very aesthetically pleasing, but the food lacks in flavor. For the prices listed I was expecting bold, unique and rich flavors. Unfortunately it did not deliver. We ordered the barbacoa tacos, meat was grey and dry, i was expecting something scrumptious and vibrant. When I hear barbacoa, I picture bursting with flavor, but not the case here. Also ordered the oxaca cheese tacos (cheese portion was good, but the vegetables inside lacked flavor), the scallop entree with chorizo was more of a scallop hash. For $34 an entree, i was expecting beautiful golden brown pieces of seared scallops. The only reason i gave three stars was for three reasons, the jalapeño mango margarita, the tuna tostada and the really sweet lady who waited for our table.

Another couple, my girlfriend, and I went to Casa Carmen late on a Friday night. Normally, our go-to Mexican spots are Covacha in the Upper West Side (for the margaritas and enchiladas) and the Rosa Mexicano in Union Square (mostly for the lively, light-hearted ambiance), but we wanted to switch it up. We had an amazing experience and are definitely coming back or trying the Tribeca location. I always like starting with a frozen margarita before food arrives and then switching to margaritas on-the-rocks. Our very friendly and patient waitress (the "patient" characteristic discussed below) suggested the guava frozen margarita to start, and it was phenomenal, not too sweet and well-blended. The on-the-rocks margaritas were also outstanding, fresh-squeezed lime juice (of course) and, again, not too sweet. Their "well" tequila is solid, but I would recommend requesting the margaritas with the Fortaleza Blanco. Casa Carmen has great tequila options. Our party ordered an array of appetizers, the highlight being the aguachile: raw shrimp and scallop with avocado, cucumber, chile, lime, cilantro, and onion. The seafood was fresh, light, and buttery, and the latter ingredients complemented the seafood perfectly. For entrees, I ordered the rib eye, which comes cut in pieces on top of a tortilla with a green and red salsa splitting in half. The salsas were spicy, but not too spicy, and the dish was great overall. The ribeye was very good, cooked a perfect medium-rare, but not "to die for," like how my girlfriend found her Enmoladas Xico. Our waitress also recommended that our party split a stuffed pepper special, which had a chalky, appealing texture and was uniquely remarkable. Casa Carmen had a great atmosphere, lively yet understated. We like to dine late, and it started to clear out a bit, but our waitress never made us feel rushed as we neared closing time. Instead, she politely informed us that another waiter was going to take over and wished us a good night. Casa Carmen is our new go-to Mexican spot. Try it out. Tip well.

Very good Mexican food joint . A bit on the high price but food was excellent to Justify the $$$. Branzino was excellent and the tender and moist chicken Mole and was very good though not that spicy . My friend enjoyed her ceviche . Nice friendly space and excellent service . Recommended to try .

Nicely appointed Mexican restaurant with character, and authentic food, great service. Thoroughly recommend Casa Carmen Flatiron, from the small but well appointed bar to thoughtfully decorated dining room ambiance, to food and service. Beef tongue was excellent, flavorful and tender.

Elevated Mexican fusion is hard to come by in NYC. But Casa Carmen exceeded our expectations! Every single dish was so flavorful and perfectly portioned (we didn't feel so full or gross leaving afterwards). Our waiter was super helpful in figuring out what to order. Drinks were amazing, not too sweet (dare I say best margarita I've ever had?). The restaurant itself was so beautiful, it really felt like we were in Tulum! Not pictured were the insane truffle esquites. We will be back soon!!!

I recently had dinner at Casa Carmen with a friend who works nearby. We decided to visit based on recommendations we saw on TikTok and other online reviews. The service & ambiance of the restaurant was outstanding, with a beautiful interior and well-set tables. The food surpassed our expectations, as it offered truly authentic Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend giving Casa Carmen a try, whether it's for a date night or a casual dinner. The drinks were also fantastic, perfectly mixed and delightfully strong.

I rarely give 5 stars. Casa Carmen is beyond. The service. The food. Everything is FANTASTIC. We had guac, tacos, ceviche, chile relenanos (spelling??) and flan and all was absolutely outstanding. I'm forgetting the side of corn that was the best corn I've ever had in my life. Plus the drinks are great and big. Annnnnnnd the space is beautiful. A little loud but what else is new in New York. Runnnnn to casa Carmen.

Went here tonight with a friend, and what a great find. Restaurant gave me Tulum vibes. We were seated right away and got our drink orders in. The Carmen negroni was delicious as was the skinny margarita. We ordered the guacamole and fresh ceviche as appetizers. Pretty presentation but also delicious. We ate every last bite of the ceviche. We then had the rib eye tacos (they came 2 per order) and the chicken mole w rice and beans. The chicken fell off the bone and right into that sauce! Would highly recommend both dishes! Finally, we finished off dinner with the corn cake w hazelnut gelato. The cake was served warm and had a gooey corn texture which was unique and yummy. Overall, had a great dining experience and would recommend people to go!

Food was simply excellent. Mole in the Xico style was great, complex with multi-layered beautifully structured flavors. Very intriguing! Service was attentive and most considerate. Ambiance relaxed and festive. Two thumbs up! Pleased to have this great restaurant in the neighborhood.

This Mexican inspired restaurant has excellent ceviche and drinks. They have a thick corn chip like a tostada that you can top with shrimp, fresh fish or crab as a ceviche. The drinks are excellent and original because they use smokey mezcal instead of tequila. The cactus cooler, banana old fashioned, mezcal straight. Great service too.

Highly recommend this spot. The service is excellent. The food & drinks are top notch. You will not be disappointed.

First of all, THE BEST SANGRIA in NYC. At Happy Hour we ordered three offerings on the HH menu and found them done by an excellent chef. The staff was friendly, the manager a little less so, as he did not seem to know that HH as advertised began about a half hour before dining. Never mind. All's well that ends well, and it did. I'm due for a return. It will remain on my lists of favorites.

Really outstanding. Went in around 7 on a Saturday. Seated quickly. Restaurant was buzzy, but not over crowded. Great vibe and atmosphere. Friendly service. Attentive, but not overbearing. Drinks: margaritas and a Negroni. Good cocktails. Negroni was a bit sweet, but not cloying. Margaritas were very good. Started with Garnachas Orizabeñas. Highly recommended. Dinner: Chile relleno and Chamorro en adobo, with Esquites preparados. Everything was fantastic. Deep, but clean flavors. Pork melted in your mouth. Rice and beans were memorably good. Dessert: tequila espresso martini and churros. Also outstanding. Long story short, there are plenty of good restaurants in NYC, but Casa Carmen knocks it out of the park. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We're excited to go back in a week or two.
