"Casa del Chef Bistro, known for its affordable and thoughtful menus, struggled to recover from the pandemic and permanently closed in June." - Caroline Shin

"It took staggering financial losses for Woodside’s Casa del Chef Bistro chef and owner Alfonso Zhicay to throw up his hands, scrap his a la carte menu, and debut a tasting menu in January. Customer traffic had nosedived, COVID cases were spiking due to the omicron variant spread, and Zhicay found himself throwing out pricey, unsold scallops while staring down a 90 percent decrease in sales in November and December. 'We were losing money every night,' Zhicay says." - Erika Adams

"A grassroots effort is taking shape to save owner and chef Alfonso Zhicay’s award-winning Casa del Chef Bistro in Woodside, Queens, from closing. To navigate ongoing staff shortages and supply chain disruptions, Zhicay has eliminated his a la carte menu, and on Wednesday, is debuting a new, flexible tasting menu-only approach based on ingredient availability. To support the struggling spot, Drew Kerr, founder of the photography-based Queens Chef Project, is helping Zhicay create gift cards, and is calling for diners to join them for dinner at the restaurant this Wednesday at 7 p.m. The tasting menu — a choice of $49 for three courses and $69 for six courses — includes steamed fluke with horseradish ragu and fried parsnips, short ribs braised in tamarind and red wine for twelve hours, and plenty of vegan and vegetarian substitutes." - Erika Adams

It’s a hidden gem in Astoria. If you’re looking for decent foods. This is the place. We order 1 of the tasting menu, they change this tasting menu depending on season and catch of the day. Tasting menu is $49/person and it comes with 2 courses and a dessert. I like the Brussels Sprout, very refreshing, light, a great kick off for appetizers. Atmosphere is nice, low noise, classical music, great service. I would revisit when I’m in the area.

One of my favorite place to eat at. The chef makes amazing food. The gnocchis are so good you'll be surprised. Prices are decent. Give it a try. I did. Brought family and friends here and they love it as well.

We were looking for restaurants featured in the Michelin guide located in Queens and decided to try this one for my birthday. It's a small place but warm and inviting. It feels very intimate and the waitress was so attentive. The food was phenomenal. Every bite was delicious. I highly recommend it.

Very nice restaurant with great service and delicious food. Seafood paella was my favorite followed by mascarpone dessert. I took one star off because the restaurant was a bit too loud and the space was a bit too casual for my taste. The cocktails were good but I tried better ones and with a nicer presentation. Vegetarian options were somewhat limited.

Cozy place in Woodside. A real 💎. The menu is limited but well worth it. The Chef pays attention to every detail on every dish served. The Mackerel w/sprouts was 😋. The Short Rib was enhanced by a bed of White Beans and Brussel Sprouts. The dessert was a creamy Panna Cotta made with yogurt and grapes on the side. It's well worth the price. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food and service being offered.

Cozy ambiance and great food. The whole experience was satisfying: the flavors are fresh, the staff is attentive, the prices suit the quality and quantity of the food. The menu is short, but it provides plenty of variety for composing a interesting meal, including some vegetarian options.

Really wonderful food, fantastic service. Had appetizers, entrees, dessert and coffee - everything was beyond delicious and beautifully presented. Will absolutely be back to try the tasting menu!

Delicious food. Small but flavorful portions with great attention to detail. It is a small space but cozy, homey, fun. We let our waiter suggest a few dishes for us (and drinks) and it was really all superb. Vegetarian options are very limited, though. The Chef of this restaurant must be highly skilled. Truly, you will understand why it’s called a Chef’s “house”. Loved it all to the last spoon.
