In-Depth Review of the Surrey, a Corinthia Hotel, in NYC - AFAR

"An Italian-inspired lifestyle restaurant, lounge, and private members' club within the hotel that serves antipasti, primi, and secondi with recognizable signature dishes from its other locations. Standouts include Miky’s Salad (lentils, quinoa, and farro with olive oil and lemon), guanciale salad, seared octopus with chickpea purée, mushroom tagliatelle with black truffle and mascarpone, and a scallop risotto accented with salty capers; for breakfast, the brioche French toast with bananas foster and maple mascarpone cream is a highlight. The coffee is praised for its authentic Italian quality, and the space attracts impeccably dressed, longtime New York visitors, offering a refined yet approachable dining option and a social hub for members." - Chloe Arrojado

Midtown Korean Crowdpleaser Danji Will Reopen in November - Eater NY

"Italian-leaning Casa Tua, the celebrity scenester spot from Miky and Leticia Grendene, first debuted in Miami Beach in 2001. Following an expansion to Aspen and Paris, it’s opening a new location at the Surrey hotel (20 E. 76th Street, at Madison Avenue) today. Reservations for the restaurant are open starting Friday via SevenRooms. Like the Taylor Swift-frequented Corner Store, there’s a dress code: “smart and elegant,” no “casual hats, ripped denim, crop tops, nightwear, swimwear, or sleeveless shirts for men.” Also: no shorts or flip-flops after 4 p.m. and no tracksuits. Jackets are encouraged. On top of that? “Please note that management reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding entry.” Fancy people need not fraternize with riff raff at its members club, where membership is $4,300, with a $1,600 initiation fee for the New York club only; global memberships and “under 34” rates also available." - Melissa McCart

Casa Tua is within The Surrey hotel in NYC. ( and we love The Surrey!) There are 2 sides to the restaurant. One is the restaurant itself and the other is more of a bar. The service in the restaurant is wonderful and the food is superb. The lighting and ambiance is soft and elegant. We have had dinner there only once and it was a lovely experience. The staff is attentive and professional. They have a warmth about them which makes you feel so welcome. I particularly love the art (large photographs of relaxing family times and food!) they have displayed. My husband and I enjoy their bar for a cocktail. The experience within the bar mirrors the restaurant but is more intimate yet still very chic and cool. Colorful and vibrant books (as in large coffee table books) are the primary decor. They line the walls. Are displayed with subtle lighting, on tables. Cozy seating, comfy chairs. Someone, likely the manager, Daniele Balsano, will be there to open the door to welcome you with a smile, an Italian greeting, and maybe a kiss on your hand ( I approve. No worries!) Daniele does an excellent job tending to the patrons and making everyone feel welcome ( in his home!) If he’s not juggling the workings of the bar behind the scenes, he’s with his guests, making sure our needs are met. He’s so good at juggling the tasks at hand while elegantly tending to his guests. The bartenders are delightful. Sometimes I’m indecisive and each time they offer suggestions and try new things and the results are always delicious. The bar area is fairly small so if you like to sit at the bar, like we do, better get there early or wait patiently. Prepare yourself for a wonderful experience!

Great all around. Our server Hemingway spent time getting to know us and was class. The wine specialist was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. The rest of the staff extremely welcoming and on top of everything. Food was great, get the pasta and the pistachio ice cream at the end which they put a candle in for a birthday. Amazing building/room.

This is my boyfriend and I favorite place in the city, the food is so so good, the pasta dishes are to die for and the PISTACHIO GELATO is the best gelato I had in New York. The drink selection is amazing, I love how it stays true to an authentic Italian drink list! Important MENTION goes to DANIELE and his staff: they are amazing!!! Daniele really treats you like your family, he always makes our dinner unforgettable every time we come and the fact that he’s Italian makes this whole experience even more authentic and special!!!

HOW TO GET IN: I only had to walk in at 7 pm on a Saturday and seated promptly. I had such a nice time here. As soon as we walked in the host was so sweet and directed us to the bar. The bartender Pablo made sure we were seated and comfortable. While I thought the drinks were on the pricier side, it was worth it because they tasted good and for the ambience and service alone I would understand the price. The inside is beautiful. I want to come back to try the food

🌟 Casa Tua – Upper East Side, NYC | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍 Location: 30 E 76th St, New York, NY 10021 (right next to The Carlyle Hotel) 🍽️ Cuisine: Elegant Northern Italian 💵 Price: $$$$ 🕰️ Hours: Open daily for dinner; lunch hours vary – call ahead 👗 Dress Code: Elegant attire recommended 🔗 Website: casatuanyc.com I had such a lovely dinner at Casa Tua next to The Carlyle Hotel. It’s exactly the kind of spot I love—cozy, upscale, and effortlessly beautiful. The vibe is romantic, the lighting is soft, and the decor feels like a mix between a Milanese townhouse and a stylish NYC apartment. I ordered the beef tartare to start—super fresh and perfectly seasoned. For my main, I had the branzino, which was light, buttery, and fell apart beautifully. My drink of choice? A lychee martini—smooth and just the right amount of sweet. I wrapped up the night with their lemon pie, which was so refreshing after the richness of the meal. ✨ The staff was warm and attentive, and the energy felt exclusive without being pretentious. If you’re staying on the Upper East Side or just want a quiet, romantic night out with incredible Italian food, Casa Tua UES is a must.

We booked a reservation months ago, we traveled from afar to come to this restaurant. When we arrived we were seated then told we had to leave because 1 of our guests had shorts on. This was a Wednesday at 5pm and 100 degrees outside , only 1 other couple in the restaurant. I asked to speak to manager , she said they have a strict dress code even though nothing is mentioned on the website regarding no shorts. I explained that we traveled far and was not aware of this rule she said she'd make a call then came back and said we will make an exception. The servers were very nice and food was good but the experience was ruined because we were made to feel so uncomfortable for no reason. Literally no one was in the restaurant, it was a Wednesday early dinner, and this is 2025. The Miami restaurant people are all in shorts . As much as we liked the food we won't go back .

A Five-Star Experience, Thanks to Danielle Balsano!!! Dining at Casa Tua in the Surrey Hotel has become one of the most treasured parts of my week - and that is in no small part thanks to the exceptional hospitality of Danielle Balsano. Danielle is, without exaggeration, the gold standard of what a host should be. From the moment you step through the doors, Danielle makes you feel like you’ve arrived at your second home. He is consistently kind, gracious, and accommodating - always greeting guests with a warm smile and a quiet confidence that immediately puts everyone at ease. Impeccably dressed and groomed, with a professional charm that never feels rehearsed, Danielle possesses a natural ability to connect with people in a meaningful and authentic way. I first brought my parents to Casa Tua, and they still talk about the experience - and about Danielle - regularly. It left a lasting impression that speaks volumes. I’ve also brought my girlfriend, who is from Sicily, and seeing how Danielle made her feel instantly at home, speaking with her in their shared Sicilian dialect and bringing that touch of southern warmth, was something truly special. It’s rare to meet someone who can make everyone at the table - from different generations and backgrounds - feel seen, comfortable, and cared for. Danielle’s communication skills are flawless. He manages the flow of the dining room with grace, ensuring every guest is taken care of without ever seeming rushed. He makes every gathering - whether it’s an intimate dinner or a larger celebration - feel seamless and personal. Because of Danielle, Casa Tua has become our go-to weekly destination, a place where we bring friends and family knowing they’ll have an exceptional time. He elevates the entire experience and truly embodies the spirit of hospitality. I can say without hesitation that Danielle Balsano deserves every recognition and opportunity for advancement. He is a rare gem in New York’s dining scene, and anyone lucky enough to be welcomed by him is in for an unforgettable evening!

It’s a place with great food if staying in the hotel itself, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to reserve a place at the restaurant unless I was staying at the Surrey hotel. The waiter was very helpful in literally choosing what I’d have for my lunch (he made a great choice), and the food was delivered slightly slowly but rather as per usual by higher-end American restaurants. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very quiet, so it is very enjoyable to have a quiet meal there either with a group or alone. The inside of the restaurant itself was very pleasant, the food was very well plated and the ment had plenty of variety of Italian dishes. It’s a good place if you do not want to wander too far away from the hotel itself, but there definitely are some much more exciting and interesting restaurants to find in NYC or even around Central Park.

Yelp
I was so excited when I heard this was coming to the UES! Ambiance - nice and classy. Tried this in Miami and I just had to try it in NYC. Service - amazing! Our service was so cool and cute with her Prada frames. Food - GREAT! We had the branzino, lamb chops. Spaghetti, potatoes and tiramisu.. all hits! Will definitely be back

Yelp
If I were to rate this restaurant on service and hospitality alone they are worthy of a higher rating but that's not the case. Kudos on the cool uniforms, I like the white jackets with the medal buttons As expected the setting and atmosphere is lovely as the restaurant is inside The Surrey hotel and most of their patrons are local There were many misses with the food, For example the truffle pasta lacked flavor and was served cold by the time the waiter had served and plated, the steak also missed the mark, it was dry and had nothing to garnish or sizzle it up with, I was using the chimichurri sauce from one of our earlier plates, the lamb was also undercooked and tasted very gamey I really did enjoy the rigatoni and the drinks were good. I had better food at their Miami location but the service was not as great as the Ny team.

Yelp
One and done. We were seated in the worst spot possible in this restaurant. I felt like I was eating in the lobby. This absolutely set the tone for the rest of the night. The food was ok but not if you're Italian. Way Overpriced! Skip the dinner and try the lounge. Sorry Casa Tua, you had your one chance and blew it.

Yelp
Casa Tua just opened a few months ago and this place is already so busy! We had a relatively early dinner reservation with my girlfriends for a birthday and it was calm at first but by the time we were leaving every single table was occupied and it was a party scene! First the service was excellent with attentive staff all around. Second the food, I was skeptical at first about the portions but we ended sharing amongst 4 girls and it was just enough. We ordered everything to share, such as the burrata, hamachi crudo and the beef carpaccio. And for mains we got the huge veal Milanese with salad and a ragu tagliatelle to share. I absolutely loved both the mains. The veal Milanese was really huge! And it came with a arugula salad (I totally forgot how much I love arugula!). We topped off this meal with a delicious bottle of champagne, which was such a beautiful gift from my sommelier friend. Overall lovely meal, excellent service and really happening scene!

Yelp
Such a fun place to meet a friend for a bite and a schmooze. Beautiful atmosphere, great art, and a pistachio gelato with candied pistachios, crushed, and sprinkled all over, that is a must try.

Yelp
I've been here 3 or 4 times and each time is more fun than the last. The ambiance in the lounge is warm and welcoming, the decor is beautiful and comfortable and every single staff interaction has been a pleasure. I have to call special attention to the lounge manager Daniele. He is so warm and accommodating. He makes everyone feel special, like a VIP. Everything on the menu is delicious, but I've also gone after dinner just for drinks, so you can eat or not. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Dined here the other night. Was a little scared because of the old TikToks my girl sent lol but it seems like it's either people were lying, don't have good taste or they've got their act together. Whatever can't trust the clock app but I must say I've enjoyed the spaghetti and lamb chops. My only riff is that they don't make the pasta spicy by request. I honestly don't want pepper flakes I want that spicy sauce for real. I love the decor it feels like sex and the city , succession or a nice place that you get a drink thrown in your face at lol it just gives sexy dramatic from the decor. The lounge is nice as well. Our waitress with the Prada glasses was excellent. I forgot her name but shout out to her! Thank you for bringing the Miami culture here. Would definitely come back oh and I loved the tiramisu that was my first time having it. I love the exposed kitchen too that was fly

Yelp
Perfect from start to finish - came here to celebrate our friend's birthday and everything was so lovely. Service was excellent, ambiance was beautiful and unique. Had the burrata, branzino, but the star of the show was the pistachio dessert!

Yelp
I have a project in NYC and the part that gets me excited the most is dinning at Casa Tua. From Aspen to NYC, Loveee this restaurant. A great experience every-time. Truly some of the most flavorful dishes ever. The service is exceptional, they are very nice, attentive and fast. Drinks are amazing, wonderful wine selections. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I was so excited to take my mom here while she was in town visiting for my birthday. The food was excellent - yellowtail hamachi and miky's salad to start and then the chicken alla diavola and the tagliatelle with mushrooms. All excellent. I feel like the wine by the glass list could use some more options. It didn't make sense for us to get a bottle because I was drinking red and my mom was drinking white. The sommelier was very helpful though, as was our waitress. No complaints at all on the service or food. There was an issue that unfortunately ended our lovely evening on a sour note. The reason I had to give 4 stars was the fact that I made a reservation, filled out the preference form AND indicated it was my birthday. It wasn't mentioned at check in or at the table. When they were getting our coats from coat check, I asked the hostess about my birthday notation. She literally didn't say anything then when we were walking out she asked it was Katie Brown right? I said yes. About two minutes later when I got in my car, I got an email that my reservation had been cancelled. This could not be a coincidence or by mistake. It seemed as though she did not want me in the system after I'm sure she confirmed the birthday notation. It truly left a bad taste in my mouth which was EXTRA upsetting because everything we ate that night was wonderful.

Yelp
I was excited to see they have one of my favorite restaurant location on the UES! Vibe was amazing! Classy, elegant, upscale inside a new hotel on the upper east side. Service was awesome! Exactly what you will expect on the UES fine dinning. When it comes to food, I had extremely high expectation as I love the Miami location; but let's be honest, sorry to say they probably need to bring the Miami team over here! They are not even up to a regular decent restaurants standard. As I did saw couple reviews that people were disappointed about their food, but i wanted to give a try myself. Ordered the safest dish, Prosciutto Di Parma does not required cooking, the burrata didn't look and taste fresh when we cut them open. Fish was not fishy, but overcooked and salty. Wine collection was decent. Overall. Disappointment because the name of Casa Tua supposed to keep up with their food around the world, and i expected higher quality when it comes to NYC location. Other than food, location is great! Classy elegant spot, maybe just for a drink? Or snacks? Anything may not involved the kitchen? Or should give other dishes a try? Or hoping for improvements ?

Yelp
I came here for dinner with 4 of my girlfriends and the birthday girl's mom for a birthday dinner. We had a 5:30pm reservation and we were seated promptly. Surprisingly we were not the only people in the restaurant at this time. The decor is a clean and modern look and there are pictures of different places in Italy everywhere. We ordered a round of drinks before ordering appetizers and entrees. They have an extensive wine and cocktail list and they even had a couple of non-alcoholic mocktails, which I appreciated. We ordered a variety of 3 appetizers, 5 entrees (3 pasta, 2 fish) and 3 desserts that we shared amongst the 6 of us. The dishes were a decent size and I have to say that I was pretty full by the end. The staff also divided the meals in separate plates for us and then put the extras in the middle of the table. Everything was so delicious and I highly recommend coming here. Definitely need to call for a reservation because it fills up quickly.

Yelp
I was hoping this would be a good experience, and I was looking forward to seeing the new Casa Tua in New York. The space lacks good art and beautiful and new artists like the other locations. This is NYC, for crying out loud! The food was okay but not exciting; I was expecting something much better.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
First we had drinks in the Casa Tua Lounge and then dinner in the restaurant. Both spaces are beautifully done with interesting art, similar to Casa Tua in Miami Beach (where we have eaten several times. The service is very good as were the cocktails. The food was disappointing. Certainly not up to the standards in Miami Beach. It is a good, albeit standard, UES restaurant. You will certainly get a good meal at Casa Tua, but it will not be particularly special. The crudo, the salmon and the lamb chops were good, but, surprisingly, the two pasta dishes were disappointing. I liked the pistachio ice cream as well.
google avatar

Raquel A.

Yelp
The lounge is so warm and beautiful. The dj on saturdays is excellent! The food is simple but well executed. Service is great. The ultimate best dessert is the pistachio gelato!

Vanessa W.

Yelp
had a 19h45 reservation. it's 20h25 and I am still waiting for my table. Nobody offered us a drink or a seat in the meantime. honestly it's ridiculous
google avatar

Jiwon K.

Yelp
Pleaseee get the pistachio gelato when you come here. It was literally one of the best desserts I've put in my mouth (and I've had a lot). Yes, it's like $30 but absolutely worth it. Honestly don't even order dinner here if you want and just go straight for the gelato bc it's a whole meal. But we also had the octopus appetiser (incredible and so soft) and then I had the porcini fettuccini -- both dishes were amazing. Highly recommend this place for a special dinner -- food and vibes were amazing. It's going to hurt your wallet a little, but it'll be worth it.
google avatar

Salisha D.

Yelp
Casa Tua is always a solid bet. The lobster pasta and truffle pasta are both rich, flavorful, and consistently well done--and the pistachio gelato absolutely lives up to the hype. The lounge is a great spot to drop in with friends for a casual meal, a coffee, or just a round of cocktails. It's laid-back but elegant, and I think it's a great addition to the Upper East Side.
google avatar

Steph S.

Yelp
Loved checking out this new restaurant! Surprisingly I was able to get a same-day Thursday lunch reservation after calling. My friend and I shared the chicken salad and the truffle tagliatelle and they were both amazing - particularly the pasta though. Wished they would have had truffle fries, but hopefully in the future. The cocktails in the lounge were also good, albeit slow service. Would definitely return to try more pastas!

Yelp
I started going to Casa Tua many years ago in Miami and was excited when I heard they were opening up here in NYC. I started dining at the restaurant very shortly after they opened and continue to dine there frequently. I also really like the lounge, which in all honestly is something the UES needed. The service, ambience and food are all reminiscent of the elegance we expect living in NYC. I have to call out the lounge manager Daniele! His meticulous attention to detail, service excellence and providing a warm welcome each and every time, is why my wife and I keep going back., and bringing friends and clients. Ps. I often write reviews when my experience is disappointing, so its especially nice to share an experience which continues to be something to look forward to. Thanks Daniele!

Yelp
Casa Tua is cozy, elegant, and the food is amazing. Loved it! Definitely will we're back.

Yelp
We showed up at 6:30pm on a Tuesday for a 7:30pm birthday dinner reservation. After we checked in, we headed to the bar across the hall which was a great spot for a pre dinner drink. After a nice cocktail round we headed back to the restaurant. We unfortunately had to wait at the restaurant cocktail bar because our table wasn't ready, which wasn't a big deal until we waited an hour despite having a reservation. At this point we had spent $100+ on two rounds of cocktails and also saw tables (2 tops) being seated ahead of us. Little bit frustrating to say the least... Now on to the food - the bread basket and the casa Tua chicken salad were delicious. The star of the show was the cacio e Pepe! The pasta was perfectly cooked and the taste was great. The veal Milanese was very good as well, but I would probably try a different dish next time. We unfortunately didn't get to dessert since we had been at the restaurant for 3.5 hours and needed to leave. On principal, waiting an hour post a reservation time is ridiculous and detracted from what was a very special birthday night.

Yelp
Thought may be over hyped...it wasnt, yes its pricey but assume you know this going in, 200 each prob w tip for like a smaller meal...however was the best food ever, service amazing, loved every bit of everything (our large party shared different dishes), highly recommend...yes you want to look chic because its so pretty, but felt perfectly suited with pants and a nice sweater... highly recommend the best item we had may be the artichoke salad.

Yelp

Yelp
So hard to get dinner reservation but when you do... every second is heaven. Food is excellent, beautiful crowd and amazing service. I love this place
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
The food is good and the service is good but it is not worth the price at all. It is extremely overpriced for what you get. The lobster salad is not good, do not get that. The prosciutto is $42 and the mozzarella that comes with it isn't great. The hamachi is good, and the tagliatelle and pappardelle are both good. The pistachio gelato is fine but not worth $30.

Carol H.

Yelp
More negatives than positives. I will begin with the positives. The service was very good. Our server asked how we would like the pace of our meal. It was nice knowing we would not be rushed. The beet salad was good and flavorful. The octopus appetizer was tasty but would have preferred it to be a bit crispier. Husband had the branzino and he liked it. Now the negatives. My risotto was over salted and drowning in olive oil. The pasta bolognese was terrible. The only flavor was a gamey one. The pasta was mushy and the noodles themselves had no flavor/salt. Our guests actually had to add salt to the pasta. That should NEVER happen. There are too many good Italian restaurants to waste your money at Casa Tua
