Board & Brew Crew Opening Mexican Eatery in Carlsbad - Eater San Diego

"Joining Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Richard Walker’s Pancake House, the incoming Mendocino Farms, and a variety of new eateries coming to The Square at Bressi Ranch is Casero Taqueria, a new concept from co-founders Clayton Wheeler and Craig Applegate, who also own several local franchise locations of specialty sandwich shop Board & Brew. Coming in at 5,059-square-feet, the Carlsbad restaurant will have an indoor/outdoor bar serving spirits, wine, and beer and a fast-casual menu developed by veteran local chef Alex Carballo. Tacos will be based on hand-pressed tortillas and filled with citrus-marinated carne asada, chicken, and local line-caught fish cooked over a wood-fired grill. There will also be tortas, shareable seafood-based starters, slow-cooked carnitas and birria, and classic Mexican desserts. Opening this June, the 155-seat eatery will also include a market area featuring ready-to-cook, take-home items from the Casero menu including marinated meats, salsa, and tortillas." - Candice Woo

Google
I only had happy hour so it's based on that. I found the food ok but I have a lot better at similar style places thus the mediocre rating. These places that try to "fancy" taquerias, have to be exceptional for me to rate high. For me, this was not that. The bartender, Cruz was great. Very outgoing, customer oriented. The vibe is nice with the inside/outside option so you can can take advantage when the weather is good.

Joyful

Google
First Visit, Sat at the bar, people sitting in either side of me uninterested in conversation (talking amongst themselves). Prefer friendly conversation at bars. Sunday at 4:30pm They start all night Happy Hour at 5 on Sundays. Got the Casero Margarita at 5:10pm and the Baja Fish Taco (didn’t love it—fish fried in old grease—you can tell by the color). Guacamole was delish (unfortunately ordered before HH, but it’s only $1 off at HH). Chips and Salsa is pretty good—tried the green and the spicy in addition to the house. Margarita was ok. Looks like a nice atmosphere in the dining areas. Bar was ok—seats not that comfy. Parking not bad—shared with several restaurants and businesses.

Love the view off the back patio. The Fajitas were amazing. Thank you for a wonderful dinner, we will be back.

Google
This was a great find. Outside patio was a wonderful place to spend the evening. Food was a step above any Mexican food in the area. Attentive server and craft margaritas were great! Wonderful place hidden in a strip mall.

Google
Fantastic place. Clean modern atmosphere, not too big not too small. We started in the bar with chips, salsa, a house beer and a hibiscus mistress. All were fantastic with great service. The bartenders were surprisingly quick, knowledgeable and service oriented. We then moved to the dining area and again had amazing service. We had the fish and al pastor tacos, but the star of the meal was the birria taco and the pazole. I will return! So good.

Google
Delicious tacos!! The drinks were pretty good too. I had the birria, the cochinita, and the Baja fish tacos and they were all very very good. They have a spicy house cocktail which is yummy! It is not on the menu, so you have to ask for it. Their tacos and salsa are pretty good too. All in all, this was a good experience. The parking lot can get full pretty quickly, so I would recommend parking on the side of the grocery store

Google
I love coming here. They had live music, which was fun and they were really good, but it was too loud. It was hard to talk to my friend who was sitting right next to me. We would have to stop our conversation when they played due to not hearing each other. Our server was incredibly nice, but she did forget about closing us out, and we couldn't seem to get her attention. In the end, we had to go to the front to pay. The front hostess wished us a good night, and we explained we hadn't paid yet. Otherwise, the food is delicious and thry have amazing shrimp tacos.

Google
This bar surprised me in the best way possible. From the outside it looks unassuming, but once you step in, it’s like entering a whole new world. The décor is warm and elegant, the lights are low, and there’s this subtle jazz music playing that makes it feel so intimate. I went there on a date, and we were both impressed by the level of service. Our drinks came quickly, and the staff were genuinely kind — not the fake kind of friendly, but actually attentive. Prices are a bit above average, but the quality more than makes up for it.

Yelp
We went for late lunch for some tacos. Probably because of the weird time, this place was almost empty. Nice outdoor patio, mostly in the shade at that time. This is a really nice restaurant with nice decor and ambiance inside and outside. We had two tacos each for afternoon snacks with no rice and beans. The waiter was nice and attentive. I had chicken and grilled fish. Grilled fish was a bit fishy that I could smell it on the plate. Maybe not next time... Grilled chicken taco was delicious. The tortillas tasted like homemade. Good mixture of chewiness and fluffiness that tastes like comfort. Nice place for an off-time low key outdoor dining for tacos!

Yelp
This is a negative review which is to, hopefully, get the attention of the new owners. I have always liked Casero, all the bartenders are great, (except for one) and food was pretty good in general but could be very greasy. I haven't tried the food since the new owners took over. However, a big change has happened and it is not a good change, unfortunately. Their Casero margarita is now pre-made and comes out of a keg, and it is not good. It is now a like thick, sweet tequila-spiked orange juice. Neither me nor my friend could drink it. It's worse than the kegged margarita that El Torito makes, and that is pretty bad. I know it is probably cheaper and quicker to have a kegged margarita, but please allow the bartenders to hand-make a margarita as before. Las Olas in Cardiff did the same thing and a whole group of us who went there several times a week stopped going there as well.

Yelp
This used to be our fav, go-to Mexican restaurant, but the last couple of visits have been underwhelming, and by the lack of customers last Friday evening, we obviously aren't the only ones who no longer feel the love. Fish Tacos were one of my favorite items here, but every time for the last several visits, the fish just tasted strong, old and fishy. I stopped ordering them months ago, but people we came with did, and they weren't happy. Last Friday my son and his wife ordered Baja style, but grilled fish tacos arrived and boy you could smell them coming. They ate them, but weren't impressed. Their pork Pozole was pretty tasty with lots of wonderful layers of flavors but they switched from pork to beef and it was boring. My husband had his go-to chicken burrito - he used to order the fish burrito but it too was too fishy - and while the chicken tasted good, he had a horrible stomach ache during the night. And he has an iron stomach. They were out of Modelo Negro and another beer! The service was just meh... it's not that the place was packed and the servers were slammed. Quite the opposite. I stopped ordering the house margaritas a while back because they are so sour. I got tired of ordering a side of simple syrup to sweetened the drink. Which reminds me - the Cucumber Refresher mocktail came in an old fashioned type glass and it was $8 or $9! It was overpriced and overly sweet and in way too small of a glass. And dessert!?! Only churros. No more of our favorite flan. The guacamole and street corn, which used to come on the cob, but now comes in a dish, were the best part of the meal. I hate writing bad restaurant reviews, but the new owners have not improved anything IMO. this restaurant used to be bustling with customers and the food was outstanding. (The shabu shabu place next door was packed when we walked by it coming and going, so I don't think lack of customers is an anomaly.) Get a new cook!! But I don't think we'll be back. Sadly.

Yelp
Food is not bad. Burrito for 16$ and it was very filling. Parking can sometimes get difficult on busy weekends or hours, but there will usually always be something open. Service was friendly and they give free chips to the table. We did not have to make a reservation for a friday lunch.

Yelp
Returned to try some faves and the whole menu is changed. No more yummy tortas. No more enchiladas. No more soups during the cold weather months. The appetizers were streamlined as well as the cocktail menu. Your only options are tacos ($6 for one 4" taco), burritos and 3 salad options, protein extra beginning at $4. Our Server said, "We dumbed down the menu." I asked why and she replied, "My mind is scrambled right now. I can't remember it all. Probably for our clientele." We asked if they substitute sides for our 7yr olds quesadilla which comes with rice and beans. She said, "We don't offer substitutions but we have fries for $4.50." The whole kids meal is $7.50. They are asking for fries to be a 66% addition! Obviously disappointed we only shared the ceviche as we watched our daughter finish her quesadilla without touching her rice and beans. All in all we easily felt the need to not return. Two cocktails, a kids meal and ceviche for $55. You can easily spend less elsewhere, have more options and have fries that don't run you an extra $4.50 for a 7 yr old. This review is for anybody who wishes to hear my opinion...

Yelp
This place is so cute! We love coming here, sometimes with kiddos, sometime for a date or just meeting up for a drink. Servers are great at making it a good experience whenever we go. Love the upscale flare of the Mexican food. The family style menu items are great for a group dinner. Don't miss taco Tuesday!
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
We came here for taco Tuesday and sat on the patio because we had our dog (dog friendly). The pricing was very good for everything we ordered. I got the shrimp and Baja fish tacos. I would get the Baja fish again but not the shrimp. The pieces seemed small. My San Miguel cocktail was okay, I'd try something different next time. The favorite thing we ordered was the carne asada burrito.

Yelp
Elevated Mexican food. We dined at Casero on a few occasions and here are the reasons why we come back. Service: Friendly and attentive members of staff. You won't have to wait long for menus, drinks and food orders. Food and drinks: Nothing missing in these departments. They offer fully stocked bar with good selection of wine and cocktails. Food is very testy. Typical Mexican flavours and seasonings. All ingredients mixed well together and got our taste buds wanting more. Very good presentation too. Plus, tortillas are made fresh in house. Prices: Average SoCal prices. Definitely nothing overpriced and justified for the quality of food and drinks. P.S. great location and nice outside seating arrangements.

Yelp
Already craving more! We ordered 4 different kinds of tacos which you can see in pictures, Tijuana Caesar salad, & California burrito. Hard to pick a favorite because each part was incredible! Also our waiter Kris was one of a kind! He was so kind & full of life. Very genuinely happy and his energy was infectious. Cannot WAIT to return! Already recommended spot to others too.

Yelp
Ambiance is beautiful but the menu is very basic and unappealing. Margarita was overly sweet and food bland. Didn't finish either. Just paid and left.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
My husband and I are loyal fans of this restaurant and come here fairly regularly, mostly for lunch and usually on the weekends. The guacamole and chips, the drinks, the food in general, the staff, the music and the ambiance are all excellent. My only complaint, as a vegetarian, is that the options for me are very limited. The only thing that is actually on the lunch menu is the veggie taco which is good but come on guys... There are tons of things you could add: veggie fajitas, a portobello mushroom entree, a veggie burrito, sofritos type meat, etc, etc. The beans currently offered as a side dish are really good too but unfortunately the rice has a chicken stock and therefore are out for me. I really want this restaurant to succeed but it's hard to return often when the vegetarian options are so slim. Please think about this in whatever future menu planning you do, thanks!

Yelp
After having some mediocre Mexican food for brunch, this place hit the spot. The decor is beautiful and their was live music in the main dining room. I love the patio, which is where we sat. I like that we got complimentary chips, salsa, and pickled carrots! My friend and I shared the tuna ceviche, 3 tacos plate, and coctel camaron. For the taco plate, we chose the octopus, cochinita pibil, and oxtail. The tacos were flavorful! The ceviche and coctel were delicious as well. For drinks, we both got the hibiscus and paloma, but mine was a mocktail. The drinks were so pretty and refreshing! I had to get their churros for dessert and they were crunchy and delightful. I need to go back to try their other menu items!

Yelp
I have a hard time getting that worked up about tacos at a sit-down restaurant, but if I did, this would be the place. restaurant is lovely and service is attentive. started with the EMPANADAS (savory mushroom, squash blossom, and epazote pastries with Oaxacan cheese, micro cilantro, and salsa molcajete) and shared a plate of tacos ( 2 BAJA FISH TACOs and a CARNITAS TACO) with beans and slaw for sides. couldn't say anything we ate was life-changing, but everything was tasty with nice attention to detail. a fun Friday evening out.

Yelp
This place is reliable for good food! Lunch or dinner! The Great: The best adobada taco & corn tortillas The Good: reasonably priced The bad: I wish they had a slightly larger menu of changing specials The Ugly: NA We find ourselves coming here more & more often for a reliable good meal & service! I have tried a few things on the menu like cheese enchiladas (yum), shrimp ceviche (yum) , adobada tacos (double yum) & chicken tortilla soup (YUM) Can't wait to go back for some quality food!

Yelp
New spot for us today and I'm mixed as to my results.... pretty spot and nice easy service. I think they are a bit short handed and feel bad for the servers. Lots of kids and big tables. Now, the food. Having just returned from Ensenada and the best taco on the planet for me... this was tough. But here I go: Chips and salsa. Chips had a spicy coating and the salsa was meh to me. I asked for a bottle of hot sauce to play with the flavor, but was told they don't have any... really? Deb had the tortilla soup and liked it. Also a skinny margarita which was indeed skinny. I went draft beer. Cold and good. Next, the Tijuana ceasar. Ok, soft croutons. I went chicken burrito which really could have used a dash of the hot sauce. Bland for me. So, I would call this spot Amer-Mex not Baja for me. Too many classic spots to rush back.

Yelp
Dining in is a great experience. The restaurant is decorated nicely and it has a nice ambiance. The food is good too, but it depends on what you order. There are some ok options and there are some great options. It's a little inconsistent but it's a nice place to sit down and have lunch. They also have some lunchtime specials/deals worth checking out!

Yelp
Visited 10/4/2023 Happy National Taco Day. I decided to pull this place out of my Bucket List for This Special Occasion. Let me start By saying I didn't have alot of expectations for this place seeing it's not mentioned much in the circles I hang out in. First it's nicely decorated inside and has a Bar and wonderful Patio with plenty of seating. Great Ambience for a relaxing Lunch or Dinner. It's a bit more Upscale with a Gourmet Mexican Feel. Everything is prepared in house from Scratch. The House Made Salsa is a fantastic mixture of Fresh Produce and Herbs & Spices. They bring you Corn Chips and This Fresh Salsa right after seating you. No Charge. I ate the whole bowl of Salsa before I even ordered my Tacos. The Staff are very Friendly and do their best to serve you. My server was a lovely young lady that took care of all my needs. Ask for Bella when you go here. She's A Great Server. Nice Simple Menu with some great Gourmet Mexican Dishes from Grandmas Oldschool Recipes. She can be seen Hand Making Fresh Corn and Flour Tortillas. I must say they are the Finest Tortillas I've ever had. Super Soft and Flavorful. I want More. I decided to try four of The Signature Tacos. I was lucky because it was National Taco Day and all Tacos were at Happy Hour Prices all Day. Yes they cost more than most Hole in the wall joints but The Quality of the product is worth the extra cost. I had A Carnitas Taco. The Carnitas was Excellent with Moist Flavorful Meat and Toppings. Next A Baja Fish Taco with a nice White Fish and great Flavor. Next The Garlic Grilled Shrimp Taco. Nice large Shrimp excellent Flavor but only two big shrimp that filled the taco. Lastly I had to try The Birria de Res. Grilled on the flattop till the cheese was crispy and delicious. I've had Birria at many restaurants and have never found any as good as I make with my Special Recipe. But OMG this has Fabulous Deep Rich Flavor. The Very Best Flavor I've had in SD. The Beef Consommé was so good I drank what was left after I finished the taco. Wish I had more right now it was that good. One last thing these are Not Tiny Street Tacos but regular sized. Wow it's Nice when everything is Fresh and House Made. This place is Legit. Looking forward to trying more of the menu Feel Free to check out my Menu Pictures for what they serve. Worth a visit to get a bit more than just an average taco place. Enjoy

Yelp
It's a cute little addition to the Bressi neighborhood. Free warm chips and entrees ranging from$14 to $18. Although, watch your teeth on the chips. They are unexpectedly thick and hard/crunchy. The biggest complaint is that it's not relaxing to dine here. The acoustics are terrible because of all of the concrete surrounding you from the floors to the ceiling. Everyone is shouting to hear each other over all of the other guests in the restaurant including the screaming kids. Perhaps it's more civil on the patio? Seating and service was swift. Ask for the jalapeno pineapple margarita, it's got a nice kick. By the way, they charge that stupid 3% surcharge. I still don't get why we have to tip 20 to 30% when a restaurant is not only paying their servers $15 an hour but now charging us an additional 3% of all checks.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for dinner with girlfriends on a Thursday night. It's nice that their booths come with pillows to make them more comfortable. Unfortunately they don't offer all day happy hour any more. Great menu and was hard to decide. The chips are delicious but the salsa has quite a spicy kick. I got the shrimp burrito. I really liked it. Got with extra white crema sauce, which made it even better. Would definitely get it again. Heard that their salad is supposed to be fantastic, with lots of ingredients and flavor. Will have to try next time. Service was a bit slow and it took awhile to get our bill, which normally would be fine, but one girl in our party was in a rush and needed to leave.

Yelp
This was my second time going, it's a neat place. Good food, and good drinks. Not as expensive as you would think, reasonably priced. My friend and I went during lunch time, it wasn't busy initially but after 12 it does get busy. Our waiter/waitress was kind. Great ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
We came on a Sunday afternoon. The place is nice inside and the ambience was great. The service was not so great. I think they were short handed. We ordered our drinks first and they came out the same time as our food. We had a party of six and my friends food came out after everyone was done eating. The food was okay. If you're looking for a good Baja California taco. This is not the place. The chips and salsa were great. The churros desert was also really good. I ordered fish tacos, one grilled and the baja fish taco. I did not care for the grilled fish taco. The Baja tasted much better. We ordered the empanadas and ceviche for appetizers. They didn't disappoint. Overall if you're looking for good Mexican food or seafood. This would not be my first choice.i live in San Diego and there's so many better places to eat. It's cute though for a girls day or maybe for happy hour

Yelp
To-Go service is 2/10. We came back for some Togo food but won't be doing it again. In my last review I mentioned that the customer service was slow but that the food was good. This time, we ordered the exact same thing (carne asada bowl and mole Encinitas, guacamole, chips, and salsa). They said it would be ready in 10 minutes, we got there and waited another 15 minutes because the order was missing the guacamole. The guacamole was more avocado than substance this time with less tomato, onion, cilantro. The carne asada bowl had huge chunks of carne asada instead of being chopped up like it was in the restaurant which is unfortunate because I had to take the meat out and chop it up myself. The portion size was substantially smaller as well. I asked for the green salsa to be on the side because it has a kick and they slathered it all on top and put the pico on the side. We also asked for a side of flour tortillas and they gave us corn which is fine because the corn also tasted good. I write this because I find it really unfortunate when the quality of food/service differs so drastically sometimes when it's to go v. In person and you're still paying the same money. We still tipped and the order couldn't even have been done right or with care. This is pretty consistent with the general theme that you should always be careful when you order stuff to go.

Yelp
So I'm working in the Carlsbad/San Marcos area for several weeks and have been trying many local restaurants. Typically, I'm buried with work and grab some unhealthy fast food but when I have time I venture out to a sit down restaurant. Boy was this stop a home run. The service is excellent, the food is fresh and delicious and the pricing and views are fantastic! They do have indoor and outdoor seating which overlooks a valley and they have both fans and heating to help make your outside dining as pleasant as possible all year round. The tacos are excellent and I've fallen in love with the Polo (chicken) tacos as my favorite so far. The chips and salsa are great too and free with your meal. You can expect to pay around $12 to $17 for a meal with two tacos, rice, beans and a drink which is very reasonable. Did I mention they have a full bar well?! Definitely make this a must stop if you are looking for a more upscale Mexican restaurant in the area. Enjoy!
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
The Mexican food here is very good. I love the flavors, the chips, salsa, the burritos and drinks. The ambiance is beautiful. The service was great too. The price is just too high though for what it is and that's why I am not giving it 5 stars. I would go again and just get less and I will try the place again and definitely recommend even though it's pricey. I hope they do well and wish the business the best.

Yelp
After going to this restaurant 3x in a week, as well as a few times before, we have now concluded that in our opinion, is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Carlsbad both in good food/drinks & customer service. And the indoor seating area and aesthetic outdoor patio is a bonus! The food's consistently good. They're delicious & full-flavored from their tacos & burritos to their excellent house margaritas & desserts. As far as taste, they lack nothing. No need to douse with salsa (which is excellent by the way). Service is consistently impeccable. Friendly, helpful & efficient. From the wait staff to the food runners. Very impressive! Juan, who helped us today (Saturday) was the best. He was very personable and gave great recommendations and provided great service despite it being busy. Can't get any better service than that. And we've had Juliana the bartender, twice now and she's been so friendly, has the best attitude and provide great customer service. My friend, who I brought the 2nd time was very impressed with her too. Highest kudos to the management team in hiring wonderful team players. They make all the difference-even more than the food. There's so many restaurants we've been to that service has been sub-par and we've understood that it may be due to the after-effects of COVID and the lack of being able to get good help so it's almost shocking that one restaurant could have as many service-oriented, friendly, efficient workers as you do! This place has such a good vibe, great customer service & good food that we'll now be regulars and we'll continue to support this local business. We highly recommend! We know that you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I love Casero Taqueria in the heart of Bressi Ranch, awesome authentic Mexican food. Five stars !

Scott G.

Yelp
Came here right after they opened years ago and was underwhelmed. Fast forward to last week and it was like I was at a totally different restaurant ( I came in with low expectations but figured I'd give them another try). I was blown away. I ordered the carne asada burrito and the thing was loaded with freshly grilled steak, and no potato filling like some do. My wife had the vegetable tacos and they were large. It's not your typical Mexican restaurant..... we'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
The food is pretty good and prices are okay for this type of a place. When I say this type of a place, I mean one that is nice to go to for dine-in. The ambiance and design of the restaurant is nice, it is a more upscale Mexican restaurant. What I don't appreciate is they keep false advertising their promos and deals. I have received emails advertising free tacos during certain times and for online orders. But it doesn't appear online and when I call them, they say it's dine-in only. This has happened 3x over the course of a year now. In addition, their online ordering system is constantly down. It doesn't make it easy to give them our business so we often take it elsewhere.

Yelp
Been here for lunch a few times, and it really hits the spot when you're looking for fancier Mexican food. I can vouch for the fish & shrimp tacos! Each taco can run you about $5 miles each, but they do not disappoint. Best part ate the drinks! Delicious margaritas and mixed drinks. Not sure what the happy hours are but I recall they have weekly specials.

Yelp
My food was burnt. my friend couldn't even eat her food. It was that bad. This place used to be so much better. I would not go here again.

Yelp
Came in for a friend's bday dinner. Staff was nice, I brought my dog and they brought her water. Always appreciate when the staff is pet friendly. But anyway, our empanada appetizer was so tasty and my blackberry marg was yummy. A couple of my friends got the refreshers sin alcohol and said they were good. Loved the happy hour deal of $5 tacos. We got an array of chicken, fish and shrimp tacos - all very tasty. and then for my girly's birthday they offered a free shot or churros. she opted for the churros and it came with a yummy chocolate dipping sauce and we all indulged. the ambiance is so cute and boho, very aesthetic, love it.

Yelp
Delicious food, adorable atmosphere, great drinks, fun and casual seating areas, small tacos to larger entrees...this place has a lot to offer! I absolutely loved the decor in the bathrooms, thought I'd add that! They've thought of every detail, they've done a great job at making this place feel equally casual and formal. Love the empanadas, elote, and tacos but my absolute fave thing here are...churros with chocolate sauce, a must add to every order, they are to die for!

Yelp
Cute spot in Bressi Ranch. Came on a Monday to check out Happy Hour and luckily HH just started as we walked in. Fun decor but no hostess at front to greet us. Walked ourselves further into the restaurant to be seen. Ordered a couple of items off the HH and regular menus. Complimentary chips had a mild kick. Preferred the battered fish taco versus the grilled. Shrimp ceviche wasn't bad. The empanadas had a different take which I had to get use to after a couple of bites. Overall, a fun place to try. This was my second time here but favored my first experience sitting out on the patio.

Tacos, burritos, tequila and mezcal nestled in a Bressi Ranch shopping center makes for a nice little Sunday funday. I'm a big mezcal fan so I was pleased to see a good selection of it on the menu and ordered the Sayulita, a spicy-ish hibiscus-based mezcal cocktail. Good stuff, I ended up having a second. I got the shrimp burrito and opted for it to be fried which was a good call. It had really big, plump pieces of shrimp rolled up with cheese, rice and fresh veggies inside a grilled tortilla, with a side of rice and beans. I probably should have saved half for later but I went all in and ravaged the whole burrito. No prisoners. Good service and a nice clean setting. The one and only reason I went with 4 stars here is that the rice (which all 4 members of our party had and agreed) was bland. Needed salt or some spice or something. Not awful and could very well have been a one-off. I'll be back!

Yelp
They have very good tacos. Nice ambience. The portions are a little on the smaller side and a bit pricey. Overall good restaurant.

Yelp
Mexican Food in Carlsbad - Casero Taqueria Casero , meaning homemade in Spanish, brings simple and time tested recipes rooted in Mexican tradition to North County San Diego. On my recent visit I tried - Hibiscus Mistress Casero Margarita Empanadas Chicken Tortilla Soup Tres Tacos Cheese Mole Rojo Enchiladas Churros with chocolate sauce Everything was so delicious and flavorful Their tortillas as made in house and are so fresh. They have speciality cocktails as well as mocktails on their menu. They also offer catering and host private events. Happy Hour - Monday's - 3pm - close Tuesdays - 3pm - 5pm Service is fast and friendly.

Yelp
In a search of a New Mexican restaurant to try out in Carlsbad. Decided to check out Casero Taqueria for a lunch date with my wife. I am glad we did. First thing I noticed was the decor, very modern clean lines, great bar setup with big TV's with a pretty decent view outside of its patio. The next thing I noticed prices were not like other Mexican restaurants. All of their specialty Cocktails are priced at $11 with good mid shelf liquor offerings. Ordered, Caesar salad 8/10, tacos 9/10 and chicken tortilla soup 11/10. The soup was probably one of the best I've ever had in my life! They also make their tortillas from scratch onsite. Going to have to go again but for dinner.

Yelp
Casero never disappoints! It's such a warm and inviting restaurant with a beautiful patio fairy lights and all. The food is delicious! The chips and salsa they bring to the table are incredible. The cocktails and margaritas are amazing. I had the Hibiscus Mistress on a recent visit and it was so yummy. I've tried the Tortas and tacos and have enjoyed it all. I'm going to make sure to try some of the soups and burritos in future visits. The service is friendly. Casero is conveniently located in Bressi Ranch. I always look forward to coming here. Definitely check it out!

Yelp
Went to Casero Taquria this afternoon with a large party form my company. The Food is pretty good, options are limited but makes ordeing easier when on a time crunch. The main concern i have is the quality of service. The waiters are not really interested in expressing a great need or exitement to serve you and will leave for minutes to go by that seem like forever. We found ourselves ready to order and just munching on chips for 15 min until they come back to check on us. Furthermore, you can tell they are just there for a job which is fine but you can feel it. you can feel that they really not interested in who they are serving you are just another guest. The spot lacks character and personality with these waiters who put more time and effort into how they look than they do into there customers. When it comes to service there is nothing special about this place and its frustrating.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I wanted to grab happy hour a random Friday. We decided to try this place since we had not been to Carlsbad. The atmosphere was so beautiful. The outdoor seating had mini fireplace heaters for chilly weather which was a great concept. We started with chips and salsa - the chips were perfectly crispy and the salsa was perfect. We ordered the Mexican street corn- this dish was delicious and I would have ordered 2-3 three more servings. We got the empanadas- a trio of fried house masa, filled with melted Oaxaca cheese and garnished with cotija and guacamole. My boyfriend ordered the surf and turf burrito - shrimp and carne asada with cilantro slaw, rice and cheese salsa Fresca. I ordered the shrimp taco - grilled shrimp, casero seasoned shrimp with cilantro slaw, cream and salsa Fresca and Al pastor taco- chili-rubbed pork cooked traditionally with onions, cilantro, salsa verde and fresh cut pineapple. The service was quick and our waiter was excellent. He brought out the food quickly and was attentive. Definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Always good food and drinks, service has been consistently good. Love the casero salad, casero margarita and churros! Churros are a must, crispy on the outside, soft inside served with amazing chocolate.

Yelp
This place is great if you're looking for beautiful interior and nice views. I personally loved the gorgeous mid-century modern esque desert design. The pretty lanterns all over the restaurant are such a nice touch. All the food and drinks were well presented and my camera was very happy. Now onto the negatives-the food is just not that good, and definitely does not justify the high price. I tried 3 different tacos and all 3 were not good. The shrimp was too salty, fish was decent but not enough fish meat, and the carne asada was very tough/chewy. I had to spit out a large piece of carne asada that could not be separated that become too hard to chew. The churro I wish had more of the soft doughy interior. The cucumber refresher mock tail tasted like a vegetable shot-too much ginger which overwhelms the taste. The salsa that came with the chips was too watered down. Overall I think the restaurant is very pretty and I think once the recipes are worked on more; then it would be a winning restaurant that I would love to revisit.

Yelp
There are some items I love here, these include the esquite, guacamole, even their table salsa and chips!! For tacos, absolutely get the fish taco and oxtail, those are my favorite. For drinks La Fonda and Organic Paloma are the best! The service is fine, though sometimes slow, and the ambiance is great. They have live music on Wednesdays and have a great vibe in there.

Yelp
We've eaten here twice, once at night on the patio and inside for early dinner. Both times were excellent. This place is less about authentic as it is about fresh and new ways of putting traditional dishes together. Always fun.

Yelp
Good food, QUICK service on a busy Friday night. Bar is nice, outside dining looked good. Tortilla soup was the best I've ever had! Good beans olla. HANDMADE tortillas- excellent! A little noisy - but fun and cheerful!

Yelp
I would say this is more overpriced Mexican food. The food is by no means terrible and actually good, but I believe you can find equal quality if not better, and definitely more authentic. Now, if you are looking for proxomity and a good restaurant atmosphere, price not being a factor, then this is ideal. However, I will say that the chicken mole enchilada was not up to par. My co-worker and I decided to split asalad and the enchilada mole and both of took a few bites and had to pass on it. It has a strage sweet pumpkin like taste which overpowers any mole flavor. I do not recommend. The chips and salsa are good, guacomole is mediocre, shrimp ceviche is less than mediocre, tuna ceviche is good, salads are good with protein substitution. For larger groups, the shared tacos meal will suffice and good entree to dine over.

Yelp
Great margaritas & apps/desert (churros, esquite) hubby got the steak & loved it. I did not like the mole (too sweet). I will be back! I hope you guys add more veggie options soon
