My friends and I visited Catch & Cut on Las Olas for the first time yesterday. The restaurant is beautiful, modern, clean, and elegant, with a great ambiance. We were impressed at first: the drinks, soups, and Caesar salads were excellent, and the presentation of each dish was thoughtful and appealing.
The experience took a downturn when the main courses arrived. Three of us had fish (including the branzino), and one ordered a steak. Although the fish dishes were served together, the steak was significantly delayed. By the time it was served, we were nearly done eating. Worse, it was undercooked. Our server, Brandon, was very apologetic and handled the situation with professionalism; however, the kitchen's timing and quality issues ruined the flow of the meal.
When the steak was returned, the rest of us had finished. The person who ordered it ended up taking it to go, though we decided not to keep it after all. The manager offered to take 50% off the price, but never came to the table to provide an apology. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale with a detailed dress code and a chef and general manager highlighted for their experience, this lack of accountability was disappointing. At the very least, the steak should have been fully comped, and an apology should have been made in person.
Also worth mentioning: while the presentation of the branzino was lovely, it could’ve used a sauce or something to keep it moist; it was a bit dry on its own.
We lost our appetite for dessert and decided to leave, opting instead to grab some ice cream nearby.
The good thing is, we’re not obligated to return, and we certainly won’t be recommending the place. If you’re looking for a more consistent and professional fine dining experience on Las Olas, I’d recommend Eddie V’s Prime Seafood instead.
