Catch is unassuming from the outside, tucked into a tiny strip mall along bustling Market Street in Wilmington. Once you step inside, everything changes. The decor is welcoming and soothing, with colorful photographs showcasing the area. The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge has never looked so good.
The menu is seafood forward, and highlights the abundance of fresh seafood available in the Cape Fear region. Be sure to take note of the daily specials menu, where the chef's creativity really shines. Service is top notch, attentive, friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Atmosphere is great, low lighting with sexy R&B playing on the speakers, loud enough to mask sounds from other tables but soft enough to hear your dining companions easily. My only nit is the dining chairs are quite hard and sitting for an extended time can get uncomfortable.
One of the highlights were local oysters served with made-in-house sauces, including mignonette and cocktail, with a small bottle of Chef's own hot sauce. On the day I dined at Catch, the oysters were exceptionally briny, due to the lack of rain in the area, and the sauces seemed to have a little extra sweetness to balance their saltiness. It's little touches like that that make Catch a dining destination, perfect for celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself.
Other standout dishes were the pan roasted diver scallops and the seared ahi tuna, both daily menu specials.
Catch also has a lovely cocktail list, and they make their drinks to order. It's well worth the wait for a properly mixed libation.
Bottom line - Catch is a catch. I'll be back.
