On the Grid : Chaco Bar

"Go for lunch and get in early. From Wednesday to Saturday, this yakitori restaurant makes just 30 bowls of ramen each day that are knock-out. Cash only. Cosy, atmospheric interiors (we swear we saw them DIY it all!) polishes off an authentically refined Japanese experience. The round table by the window is the best seat." - Universal Favourite

The 31 Best Places To Eat & Stay In Sydney - The Infatuation

"Chaco is a yakitori joint in Potts Point with long communal high tables, a cocktail bar, and a few seats up to the island kitchen. The a la carte menu (served during the week) has small plates, Fukuoka-style skewers, and many things cooked over charcoal, including the Horumon Yaki of chicken hearts, giblets, and soft bones. On weekends they serve a $95 seven-course tasting menu of greatest hits, but whenever you’re here, definitely dive into the sake and shōchū menu—the helpful waitstaff are always ready with advice. Meanwhile, if you’re pining for ramen, the same people own Chaco Ramen, a tiny bar in Darlinghurst serving steamy bowls in a room that feels like a clubhouse filled with your best friends." - Caroline Clements 33

I enjoyed some aspects of the meal, there were a few things that could have been better. Some of the food was overcooked (grill skewer )which made it taste a bit bitter. However, the special duck dish and Crab chawanmushi was absolutely delicious and stood out as the highlight of the meal. One positive change I noticed is that the prices are now more affordable compared to previous visits, which makes it a better value overall. With a little more attention to cooking, this place could be even better. I’ll consider returning for the duck and the reasonable prices.

Menu was not too expensive, so food was great for casual dining that is just a little more special. We sat at the chef's table and I was initially sad that the coal grill wasn't closer to the table so I could get a better view. I was fine, but my partner started sweating and the gentleman sitting next to me was using his menu as a fan. Don't sit at the chef's table if you're not good with heat lol 🫠

The food was very average. Skewers were warm, which you don’t expect if it came fresh off the grill. There was no charcoal taste to the skewers at all. Makes me believe the food may have been pre-cooked and warmed up?? The pork belly was the worse, the fat was warm and unpleasant to eat.

Came here for dinner with a group of friends. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We had the banquet menu for $70pp which i thought was fairly reasonable value. The food was good with the spanner crab chawanmushi, softbone meatballs and the tuna sashimi to be my favourite. Their house made umeshu was also quite enjoyable, it was a bit different to what I was expecting (compared to your typical bottles like Choya) but it was easier to drink and tasted great! Overall, the experience was enjoyable. I think the only minor comment is that the staff did not really give us much more pointers when we asked for a sake recommendation.

Amazing dishes! The special (Saba Sushi), Uni Wagyu and the Dry-aged Beef tongue were insanely delicious with amazing flavors and textures. We could not go wrong with the yakitori too😋 The recommended sake was also perfectly paired with the dishes. Definitely coming back!

Had a very hit and miss experience here over a year ago, but decided to give it another whirl and, the current format hits the sweet spot. Fantastic service and very tasty skewers. Dry aged duck was a standout and great value at $42.

This place is my favorite japanese restaurant in sydney. Every food was clean, neat, delicious, beautiful. Especially oysters is my favorite. I can't wait to try again when I visit sydney again. It's yakitori bar but the other antree or main was soooo good. You should try oyster and chawan mooshi(steamed egg with sauce) and mochi ice cream was good but soso if you wanna eat, just try yuzu coconut. That was okay. All the staff was so kind and let us feel welcoming.
