The 15 Best Korean Barbecue Restaurants in Orange County | Eater LA

"When thinking of a standard Korean barbecue experience, Cham Soot Gol probably isn’t far off — big air vents, loads of banchan, and a lively ambience that’s optimal for group gatherings. They offer one all-you-can-eat option with classic Korean barbecue meats, such as brisket, pork belly, and bulgogi, while bone-in short rib can be ordered for an extra charge. Though Cham Soot Gol has been in business for nearly 18 years now, they’re consistently known as one of OC’s most dependable AYCE spots, and most notably, regulars appreciate the unlimited ice cream for dessert." - Cathy Park

Google
First time here and have been in the area for 10 years. Jesus and Kelly are amazing servers. There are so many servers that we were constantly asked if we needed more meats by 10 different servers every time someone passed by. Don't forget the ice cream on the house too! Highly recommend this location. I've been to many, and this place ranks at the top.

Google
Best kimchi ever. Also, enjoyed the steamed egg dish and bean paste stew. Next time I would request half the portion of the prime steak and pork belly. My fave was the shrimp,(4 at a time are served).

Google
My go to place for K BBQ in OC. Fast and attentive service, great selections and tasty meats.

Google
This place is really affordable and decent. The service is good but you have to ask for all the sides bc not everything is brought to you like other places.

Google
My family and I have been going to Cham Soot Gol for over a decade. Sometimes we love coming to the Garden Grove location when we are in the area and it is always a treat. My favorites are the I love ordering a spicy tofu soup and eating the salad while I'm waiting for the brisket and bulgogi to cook. They have a nice selection of meats and sides. Everything is delicious and you end the night with complementary ice cream.

We came here for a birthday celebration, and we enjoyed the time spent here. They have a very stylish interior, comfortable seating and tables. The place to be recently renovated. The personnel is nice and the waiters are friendly and attentive. Not the most extensive menu, but the meats are of good quality.

Google
Nobody was checking up on us nor was there anybody around to ask. Workers were just standing there talking We had to wait a long time between food / drinks /sides. Our grill never got changed until we were about to leave. Had to ask help from different waiters. It took a long time to bring us our check so we eventually got up to pay upfront. Anyone wanting to go eat Korean BBQ I would recommend Mr.BBQ.

Google
All around great experience. Traveling from out of state on business first experience eating Korean BBQ. Staff explained what to order and how to cook. I was amazed at the customer service something that seems to be lacking in most restaurants now a days. We had interactions with several workers all very helpful. The way the crew worked together helping one another checking on tables, adjusting the grill flame, changing the grill grates, constantly checking if we need more meat. It was truly a great dining experience and the management should be proud of their team.

Yelp
Minn (I think that was his name) gave excellent service and was patient with us even though we were needy. 5 stars for Minn. Banchan was garbage I've never had fishcake that made me pull a disgusted face but first time for everything. Meat, sauce and rice paper are my favorites at kbbq and they at least didn't disappoint there. Dessert is part of the ayce deal and it's bussin it's like they gave up quality of banchan for ice cream. 5 stars for Minn and all FOH staff. They all deserve better. 1/5 stars for the owner that decides to serve mediocre banchan at a kbbq.

Yelp
The employees were nice and helpful, and we got seated pretty quick, so no complaints there. But overall, the experience just felt kinda mid for me. I know KBBQ is all about cooking the food yourself, but I'm not sure if our little grill was off or what -- the meat took forever to cook and kinda threw off the whole vibe. Everyone else around us seemed like they were having a good time, so maybe it was just bad luck or a first-timer thing. I'd be down to give it another shot sometime, but this visit wasn't it for me. That being said, the ice cream at the end was bussin fr.

Yelp
This used to be my whole extended families favorite spot for KBBQ. We were sad when it went away but happy when we were told new owners saved it. However, our last visit was not that good. The food and atmosphere are great! Thankfully that remained consistent. However, the service needs help. First, we ordered our drinks and had to follow up twice to get them. They were given but with attitude like we annoyed them. We also ordered soup which never came and we followed up a few times for that too. Taken it cans to getting new grills, that was quick and friendly. It was moreso with the food staff. Not sure if it was an off day or what but most of their attitudes were foul.

Yelp
We went in with a large party, but the service was still very good and attentive. Props to the staff for being professional even though we had a lot of kids with us. This is a good place to take your family or large parties. We started with the brisket, and I lowkey didn't think it was very good. But I drank some soju and everything started tasting a lot better. But maybe that's just because we started ordering better meat. If you are doing the A-level menu I would stick to the thinly sliced beef and pork belly. If you are doing the B-level menu I would add in beef tongue as well. I also like their selection of banchan. The potato salad, japchae, and fish cake were my favorites. They give you free ice cream at the end too. It's straight out of the freezer so it's a bit hard, but it's good once it warms up. I always get the green tea ice cream.

Yelp
Been here for the 4th and it never fails!!! I definitely recommend this place to family and friends Service: was amazing we went on Friday evening at 6pm and the place was packed but we didn't have to wait too long prob 5mins. Staff is very attentive to make sure that you're not running out of food. Food. The quality of the meet is 5/5 I love the thin slice brisket, bulgogi and pork belly. All the sides are delicious as always. The ice is different now but better. Ambiance: better be wearing some work out clothes because you know your clothes are gonna sleep like k-bbq. Place is clean

Yelp
I've eaten at Cham Soot Gol twice now and will def keep going back! I enjoyed this kbbq spot for the ayce aspect and the lower prices. The banchan was delicious and we reordered everything multiple times. We ordered Spicy pork, thinly sliced beef brisket, and spicy beef belly. These were our favorites and so delicious. The spicy beef belly is soooo good. THEY NEED CHEESE CORN THOUGH. The wait has never been bad and service is pretty great, especially with a button on the table. While I have had better kbbq, overall, this is a good, cheaper ayce kbbq option.

Yelp
Unfortunately they don't sit anybody after 9:00pm so make sure you're there before 9 o'clock.

Yelp
TLDR: A solid all-you-can-eat (AYCE) Korean barbecue spot that meets expectations but doesn't rise above the pack. The meat is the highlight, with a few standout options, but the banchan falls short. Convenient for avoiding long waits in the area. Set A $32.99; Set B $38.99 Pros: -Little to no wait compared to other Korean barbecue spots nearby. -Decent selection of meat, with some hits. Cons: -Mediocre banchan. -No traditional kimchi offered. -Some meat cuts are not worth the space on your grill--or your stomach. Banchan: The side dishes here are underwhelming, with a few exceptions. -Fish Cake: 2/5. Bland and forgettable. -Seasoned Bean Sprouts: 2/5. Tasted old, no crispness. -Japchae: 3/5. Lacked seasoning and sweetness. -Potato Salad: Decent, 3/5. Nothing special but gets the job done. -Cucumber Kimchi: 2/5. Missing the bold, bright flavors typical of kimchi. -Traditional Kimchi: Not available--a glaring omission for a Korean barbecue spot. -Radish Slices: Surprisingly good. A flavorful and refreshing alternative to rice paper. Meat Offerings: We ordered the top-tier B Set, which includes premium cuts. Here's the breakdown: Worth Ordering: -Bone-In Short Rib (Galbi): Tender and flavorful, though not extraordinary. 7.5/10. -Premium Mugi Fuji Pork Belly: Thick-cut and delicious. Definitely worth ordering. -Brisket: Can't go wrong with this. Skip These: -Garlic Pork Belly: Flavorful but didn't quite taste like pork belly. Might skip this on a return visit. -Baby Octopus: Chewy, not that enjoyable. -Ribeye Steak: Just a plain ribeye with no seasoning. Tough to chew if not cooked perfectly. You're better off sticking to brisket. -Pork Jowl: Chewy and not particularly enjoyable. My date rated it 3/5. -Beef Tongue: Extremely chewy with little flavor payoff. Not worth the grill space. Other Dishes: -Egg Pot Soup: Excellent. Well-seasoned and satisfying. -Tofu Soup: Another standout. Warm, flavorful, and enjoyable. Would I Return? Rating: Maybe. The meat selection makes it worth considering, but the lackluster banchan and a few disappointing cuts might push me toward other options in the area. It's a good fallback if you're craving AYCE without the long waits. Tips for Your Visit: Some items don't come by default, so be sure to request these when you sit down: -Spicy Paste -Salted Oil -Rice Paper

Yelp
With how many AYCE KBBQ places are in the area, it took me a while to finally try this one. While the meat quality is fine, the lack of appetizer options is noticeable and the price is not enough to justify such an exclusion. Premium option on Menu B were okay, you are probably fine with just menu A unless you love beef tongue like me.
google avatar

Austin Q.

Yelp
Great and reliable place. I repeatedly go here with my friends and it does not disappoint. Just went again with a group of eight and the service was good and so was the quality. The only downside id say is the price. There are definitely cheaper options but i know that whenever i come to this place it will be amazing!
google avatar

Pam B.

Yelp
AYCE with 2 menu options. I came with the family, table of 4, 3pm on a Saturday. No wait and the staff was great, attentive, friendly, quick. Quality and cut of meat was exceptional. Made it well worth the $50 per person with tax and tip. Good flavored/seasoned banchan. Steamed eggs was ok, maybe a little bit much on the dashi. Free scoop of ice cream at the end was very nice. Decent ice cream too.
google avatar

Jenning L.

Yelp
A very solid KBBQ restaurant that we'll be coming back to! They have a lot of sides/condiments that may not be on the menu but you just need to ask the staff. Meat is high quality and worth the price for AYCE.

Yelp
Nice remodel done at this location. It's clean and the grills are better this time around. The servers have been exceptional, all great people ! Polite , prompt and efficient. I enjoyed the meat options. Love the verity of the sauces and oils. Garlic, jalapeños, salt and peeper and sesame oil always set it off for me . Love the soups , both the bean paste stew and spicy tofu are a must try . Prefer this location over the Bp location

Yelp
First time at this location. Plenty of parking here and there is a lot of space inside the restaurant which makes it perfect for large parties. The staff was efficient and very attentive. Cham soot gol has always been of good value and this visit was the perfect spot to fill the kbbq craving. Meat quality here is pretty good and they provide a lot of banchan options. Loved their kimchi and they were very generous with portions.

Yelp
Great quality food, lots of tables and great for big groups. However it's so loud in here and you can't have a good conversation with your group. It's also pretty tight seating so it was difficult with my friends with small kids and strollers. Service was fairly quick though and would come back for a group of 6, but it was difficult with a party of 10 to hear each other and sit comfortably.
google avatar

Christine K.

Yelp
Food was fine. Service was great!!! Parking was fine bc we came near closing around 8p. They still give you ice cream :) Got the B set. Chadol, beef belly, joomulluk, galbi, fancy pork belly, pork jowl, then large instestine (daechang). Nothing really wowed me. All the meats were mostly on the dry side. The items I dont recommend are: kimchi fried rice, soft tofu soup, joomulluk, pork belly. Pros: No wait when some other places had 40mins wait. I was too hungry to wait another min.
google avatar

Trisha V.

Yelp
This is still one of my favorites but the sad thing was I was looking forward to the ice cream where you can scoop it yourself but sadly they took that out. They give it to you in an individual cup now. I don't know if you can get unlimited amounts and wish I would've thought about asking that question but ya, that was sad to find out. But the meats here are still good and their side dishes were still good. Service was great. They were always there to assist you.
google avatar

Yelp
Great selection of meats to choose from and great service. Never had to wait long for the food to be delivered or order a new round of food. Didn't have to wait to be seated on a Saturday night. Would come back again if in the area.

Yelp
Cham Soot Gol was one of my first experiences having KBBQ and now its been over 15 years. I would come with family and friends periodically. It's been awhile until my Korean driver mentioned it recently. I decided to give it a visit again. I came with one other person on a Saturday and there was no wait. We got seated right away although it was kind of busy. Cham Soot Gol has two different menu options: A ($31/pp) and B ($36). Option B is their more "premium" option which includes everything on option A with some speciality meats. The meats include pork jowl, tongue, short ribs, finger rib, octopus, and premium pork belly. We went with option B. My favorites were the jowl and the tongue. Besides meats all their sides were fine and enjoyable. What I did not like about Cham Soot Gol is their sesame oil which tastes funky. It tastes like it has been mixed with vegetable oil or some sort of seed oil. I am definitely not a fan of that and it messes with the whole experience for me. Everything else was cool for the price though. And of course you get a complementary scoop of thrifty's ice cream of your choice at the end. They have strawberry, malt, and green tea. You can no longer scoop it yourself and they bring it out in a cup for you. The service was really good. The guys waiting on us kept checking on us and we were never without meat. They also gave us recommendations on how to cook everything. Our grills were constantly changed and they would stock on any sides we finished and refilled our waters. I mean for the price, meat quality, and choices it was cool. Don't expect the highest quality anything but it is still enjoyable and a great place to have lunch or dinner with family and friends.

Yelp
AYCE KBBQ is such a staple in OC and this is definitely one of the best places to do it. Got here kinda late and I'm pretty sure we were the last party to get seated (oops). Service is very attentive, friendly, and overall amazing. They checked on us so many times, lowered/increased the heat, changed out the grills frequently, etc. Meat came on MASSIVE plates. Great offering of sides and good quality meat. Honestly, my friend and I absolutely stuffed our faces out. Loved that they had ice cream at the end, although I think in the past you could just scoop it out yourself. Reasonable prices for such a large menu variety and quality, and definitely worth a drive down!

Yelp
This was my first time here and I was really impressed with it. I personally like going to more traditional KBBQ spots rather than the chains and I'm really glad I found this spot in Garden Grove. We came on a weekday, so it wasn't as crowded, but there are plenty of seats for a weekend night. We got the Set A because it had everything we liked. We switched off between brisket, beef belly, and pork belly. The serving size for each one was a good portion, which is nice to not constantly ask to bring out another round of the same meat. The meat was cooking quickly and they were all really tender. I loved all the small appetizers they had on the table and the servers were super nice and were really attentive to ask if we wanted other things like rice paper radish, salad, hot sauce, etc. At the end, they asked if we wanted any ice cream and gave it in a to-go cup. I was really happy coming here because of the great service and KBBQ experience. I highly recommend giving this place a try. The service here is one of the best I've gotten!!
google avatar

Luis V.

Yelp
I have been coming here for 10 years and have not had an experience like this. My friends and I decided to go on 12/13 and had the young lady server. Service was very dry, no explanation of menu, no genuine hospitality. Instead we had a morose tone from her. When I read the receipt the server name stated "Hoon Minh." No complaints on the food as it is always delicious and why I've returned for so many years.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
Tried out here with my family because we were all craving kbbq & was my dad's recommendation. The meat was pretty good and I had my fill but I am hesistant to say if I will come back any time soon. The servers were all very nice EXCEPT this one lady with glasses that took our first order. She asked whether we are getting A or B menu 3 times for I don't know what reason when I answered menu B the first time she asked... and that was all she proceeded to do, no explaining the menu or anything. I ordered two sprite and one fresh soju and she brought us two sprite and one coke? And no ice cups like other tables got... When she brought out the meat she didn't give us tongs or scissors... how else do we cook the meat? So basically the it did not start well but at least the other servers were very accomodating and made the experience a little better.

Yelp
These guys have it DOWN!! Smiles while greeting, serving and checking in on your status for additional food!! Food is always fresh and ready to be cooked!! Trust me when I tell you! They do not mind questions on anything and are happy to teach you a few secrets it's AHHHMAZING!! Music is always playing happiness or party vibes while you're there so expect to leave happy and full!! TVs are also there for your entertainment! Best part is the yummy ice cream you get.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
The food here is always great for Korean BBQ . Good selection. Sides are great! Different servers constantly come by and change the grills. Always have a great time here! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
As a pescatarian, I still love going to KBBQ with my friends because I love the vibes and hanging out. however, I'm always spending way too much money for not eating any meat. CSG has a vegetarian options which is SO cheap for what you're getting. I love how inclusive they are! The service is super fast and everyone is SO friendly! It's not my favorite KBBQ spot, but it's up there! One thing is that parking is kind of tough depending on when you go. It's a very small lot.
google avatar

Mylinda T.

Yelp
great selection of meats for the price and the quality is pretty solid. we waited about an hour for a saturday night which is expected. service could use work we constantly had to wave someone over to change our grill and weren't checked on much. plenty of seating and tables inside. there's also a little waiting area inside. however, the parking can get a little difficult since the lot is kinda small
google avatar

Barb B.

Yelp
This experience was just OK. 3 out of 5 stars really. I cant say I frequent a lot of AYCE KBBQ but there is one that's right around the corner (Shik do) that I like more. They booked us for reservations on a Monday. It was busier than Id expect it to be on a monday. Our waitress had a little bit of an attitude. She seemed a bit impatient with us considering there werent THAT many people. We all ordered, had a table of 9, but the others were pretty nice. Id say the best thing on this menu was their beef belly. The brisket was ok. Best part about this was their ice cream. THIRFTY ICE CREAM to be exact aka RiteAid.

Tu D.

Yelp
Customer service was terrible. The staffs was slow and not friendly at all. Would not come back
google avatar

Verity W.

Yelp
food is great!! (if it ever gets to your table) service is lacking; they never refilled our table's waters (we had 8 people and all our water jugs were empty) & i had to ask for an egg pot twice because the first one never came out (they forgot). I asked one of the servers if it was ever coming, and i got a very snide remark saying something like "it takes 5 minutes to prepare, sorry it's taking SO long". I wouldn't have asked if the first one was brought out but okay.. When they were changing the grill, the tone in voice was very short and snippy, and the lady didn't say please when she asked my boyfriend to move his tongs. It sounded like more of a demand, and it was rude. Also, not sure if this is normal at this establishment, but there were so many drops of something sticky and brown under the table and it dripped onto my boyfriend's shoes. As we looked under the table, we discovered the source- a very unkempt, dirty grill. I feel that with the amount of grease on the floor, it's been like this for a while. i wonder how many other people's belongings or articles of clothing got ruined by the lack of attention and cleanliness. anyways tl;dr- food is good, service could be better in manners/attitude, atmosphere could use a little attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness.

Yelp
Cham Soot Gol is an institution in Garden Grove's Koreatown and it's one that I've frequented in my youth. I'm not the biggest fan of KBBQ but Cham isn't anything special and their marinades can be a little inconsistent. Service is spotty but then it's always a good time at cham. I don't think i'll ever be back but the food is okay and it isn't worth its price point at all anymore - there are much better places out there.
google avatar

Mr B.

Yelp
Very good quality meats. The price is a bit higher than others but considering the location is clean and well maintained it offers good value. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

clara ..

Yelp
Not as busy as it once was back in the day. Restaurant wasn't even half filled during noon time lunch. Service: felt understaffed. Everyone doing their best. Waitress didn't seem happy to be at work. Food: I'm not a meat connoisseur but the slices were thicker and juicier than some places. That's a plus. Ambiance: felt like the place needed some tending to.
google avatar

Dennis C.

Yelp
In my experience, Korean food in Cali have trumped Korean food in Jersey each time, and Cham Soot Gol continues to champion this unbreakable record. Coming from out of town, my family decided to have a bit of reunion dinner here at the Cham Soot Gol in Garden Grove, in which the venue graciously hosted. Staying in Anaheim, we decided to make the trip to Cham Soot Gol which ultimately proved to be the best dining option we could have selected. For as good as a Korean-BBQ spot Cham Soot Gol is, we were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait, and were promptly seated. The staff and servers were extremely attentive, being there every time when we needed them without requiring us to call out to them despite the restaurant filling up quite quickly after our arrival. There's nothing else that I really can say about Cham Soot Gol that hasn't already been said. Perhaps, I would like to reemphasize on the quality of the meats served. All the cuts were tender, juicy and moist, and cooked perfectly on the grill. Again, the servers and staff were on point, making sure that the grill were replaced before becoming too charred. By the end of that night, Cham Soot Gol definitely hit the spot and fulfilled a craving that I didn't even know I had until I dined there. Overall, a great spot to enjoy with family and friends. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the general area!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best all you can eat KBBQ in the area. Fast service, constant service, and great food! Highly recommended.
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
One of the best KBBQ places I've been to. They are located in large parking area with great price and what is even better... they are AYCE!!! They use to have just the brisket option which was my favorite but that disappeared suddenly. They still have great options for amazing price. Make sure you get a reservation bc they are always busy and are packed!! Service is a hit or miss depending on how good of a day your server is having. You could get the nice cuts or tid bits. Overall I really enjoyed my meal here and will be coming back again for more
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
Great Food, Service and Ambiance we Love it here they do not rush you we celebrated my son's birthday and father's day. They accept reservation and we did not wait long. We live in Ktown but we drove all the way here tells you that this place is amazing. Ktown AYCE has been overrated lately, must try this place oh don't worry about parking coz they have plenty.

Nhan V.

Yelp
I have never had such terrible BBQ before. I ordered Beef Belly and Brisket, and the meat was extremely tough. It made my jaw hurt while chewing. There was nothing special about it, and I couldn't even finish the plate because it was too tough to eat.
google avatar

Kristina P.

Yelp
One of our go to's when in LA for Disneyland! Luckily the times we've gone we didn't have to wait long-- thank goodness because our kids always come hungry... or should I say HANGRY lol. The service is quick, meats come out pretty fast and there's a little bell on the table to call your server. The spicy tofu soup is so good and we always opt for brisket for the grill.

Kathleen N.

Yelp
I'll give credit for the generous meat portion size, but the selection wasn't anything special, and the cuts of meat were subpar. The food itself tasted bland. When I asked for salt and pepper, the amount of pepper was so minimal I could count the grains. I also tried the kimchi fried rice, but it was more like 'flavored kimchi' rice with no actual kimchi or egg. Other than the generous portion size meat is the complimentary ice cream. Considering the price, I think there are better KBBQ options with higher quality for less money.
google avatar

Le'Anne M.

Yelp
The last time I came here was pre Covid before their remodel. It's been a long time coming. There's a lot more space then the "old place" I had known. If you have a large party of 8 people or more you can make a reservation. We had a party of 8 and were seated right away. Unlike other KBBQ spots that play their music so loud that you're unable to have a conversation, this place had music but I could still interact with my friends at the same table. The service was exceptional. The servers kept the meat coming on rotation and swapped out our grills like an experienced pit crew. There wasn't a moment we were without water or side dishes. Everyone was friendly too. I personally don't eat meat very often so I was happy to see they had a veggie option. Their spicy tofu soup was really good. To top the night off they gave us some free ice cream!
google avatar

Casey N.

Yelp
Great service, I always say if i have to ask for a refill it's not "great" service. It is my differentiator between good and great. The food here is awesome as well, and their all you can eat packages are daily priced. i do wish they had more ban chan though but that's about it. they have a younger vibe with more relevant music with a younger staff. i definitely recommend.
google avatar

Claudia L.

Yelp
Cham Soot Gal was good. The service was great. The meats were good and the ambience was nice and open. Love when it's open and lighting is great
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
Reasonable prices considering the meat is high quality and AYCE plus they give you complementary ice cream at the end! The food was soooo good and the service here was quick

T H.

Yelp
Great service, decent pricing on their menus. One of the best KBBQs around this area in a competitive zone.

Paulina C.

Yelp
Food and service was great as always! Had an amazing visit love coming back to this place!! Place is very spacious and clean!
google avatar

Yelp
KBBQ...AYCE!! Yes please! Quality meats, quality side dishes and amazing service. Located conveniently in the heart of Koreatown in Garden Grove and the place is nice and clean with plenty of room for big parties. Cham Soot Gol has been a staple in this town and i enjoy my experience every time I come in.

Mr W.

Yelp
Been in Garden Grove for 4 months, by so far, this is the only decent Korean bbq with actual good food. Will be back soon

Nicole E.

Yelp
We were invited by friends to try this place and it's actually a favorite of ours now. If you like to get away from the big chains and support your smaller mom and pop shops with amazing food, this is your go to spot. Give it a try! Service and food is always on point. Don't forget to try the green tea ice cream. We always take it to go to enjoy it in bed.
