Chant Restaurant In Hyde Park

We had a lovely meal on a Tuesday night. The aromas were drool-worthy the moment we stepped in. The space was intimate. The servers were kind and attentive. We both enjoyed our meals. I had the Korean BBQ Fried Chicken and my spouse had Sambal Catfish Macaroni and Cheese, as well as some cocktails. Everything was delicious and there was so much more on the menus that we’re anxious to go back and try.

This was my second experience at chance. I think this time I had a much better experience the first time. The bar was open and it was around 2 o’clock in the afternoon so it was very slow. Our waiter was very young and very helpful. I really appreciate it and tipped well. We had an assortment of food and I think that all of it was really good. My favorite was the wings also had a drink which is good will be back.

This drive and this food was soooo worth it! My sister-in-love recommended this place during our trip to Chicago and im so glad she did. Everybody loved their food and I loved theirs too as I tasted everyone's (with the exception of the shrimp fried rice because of allergies) Oxtail, turkey basil rolls, chicken wings, lo mein, catfish, lambchops, quesabirria eggrolls....all delicious

I visited Chant with my sisters on a week day around dinner time. We were seated almost immediately. The atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant is very cozy yet very loud when the band is playing. The service was quick yet disorganized. We received our food before our drinks. The flavors of the food were different than what we're used to, but it was nice to try. I liked my entrée, but I did not like my appetizers.

Dinner was delicious! It was my 2nd time at Chant. I had Catfish on top of Mac n Cheese, Turkey Basil Rolls, Fried Green Tomatoes and they were all outstanding! The favorite drink is Conflict and Compromise. I had Red Velvet cake for dessert! It was soooooo delish! I'll be back to try other dishes soon.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s a Monday, but 5/6 of the items I ordered was a complete disappointment. I have no desire to return back. To start, the host was not inviting or welcoming.. I guess I should’ve taken the hint. Waitress was kind but became sheepish due to the table having such a horrible experience. FOOD: Sambal Catfish had no flavor, Mac and cheese tasted boxed, and had random lettuce on top that didn’t add anything to the dish which probably would’ve been fine just not even added. Calamari was rubbery. Cilantro was the only thing adding flavor to it. Just look at the pics. The Quesabirria Ramen taste like boxed ramen WITHOUT the flavor pack with unseasoned dry short rib on top. That was sent back…i 1000000% should’ve sent my sambal catfish back but i didn’t want to be rude. Highly highly highly disappointed.

Ever since a friend told me about chant i’ve been hooked ever since! I’ve had the butter chicken (a must try for people who like curry dishes), and i’ve had the spinach & tofu. Now, the spinach and tofu was lacking a bit flavor maybe they can add a slight pinch of salt, and/or spices to give it a little extra kick. But overall they’ve won me as customer. 🤜🏾🤛🏾

Ate here for lunch started with their Lobster Rangoon this was ok last had more cream cheese inside than lobster imo...plus the dipping sauce was hitting either 7.4. For the main, I got short ribs that came with rice, and broccoli. The broccoli was season-season fr never had broccoli on point like this. The short rib and rice just needed some salt because it was rather bland after the first bite. After a few dabs of salt, it was a lot better 8.4... also beware of that thai chill pepper hidden underneath. I took one bite and damn near fell out it was so hot🔥...never again brought me to tears ngl. But the short ribs were tender and it's a decent-sized portion too. Overall not a bad spot to grab a meal but with so many options in the city nothing here would bring me back. Just if I'm in the area or something. 8.4

Came in with no expectations and left fascinated! Food and service were great!! My server Ana was amazing! Great place overall

When i came in and didn't know what to order. The menu seems like southern u.s. meets southeast Asia. I love a good fusion Our server Bethany was super helpful, she recommended lobster Rangoon and the oxtail. Amazing My crew also ordered the peach passion martini, Hennessy sidecar, and pear martini. Everything was perfect

This is our version of "The Pit" (A Different World) and "Norms" (Cheers) - between the PHENOMENAL service, delicious food and fabulous drinks... The only thing I miss is the curry shrimp - please don't change anything else, especially the wonderful Peter at the bar Peter is a GEM, we LOVE HIM!!

I have never had such a lackluster meal experience until today. We ordered the ribeye steak sandwich/fries , crispy curry catfish, and the quesabirria ramen. Everything lacked flavor. The ingredients in my crispy curry fish dish were fresh but the curry did not taste fresh and seemed jarred. My daughter is 8 and said her ramen was bland. Hubby ordered the pear martini and I had the peach passion martini. The best part of the entire dinner was my peach passion martini. I def won't return here. Nothing excited my tastebuds. However, the ambience and service was decent-nothing that really stood out here either. Overall, I definitely agree with most 3star reviews here. My experience was mediocre, at best.

The Beef short rib dinner is delicious. It is extremely tender and flavorful. This saved the review. Avoid the crab and shrimp dip. Honestly, this should be pulled from the menu. That's how terrible it was. I also ordered the chocolate cake which I did not enjoy. It had a chocolate mousse frosting and raspberry jam, and the menu gave no mention of that. I ordered a Mai tai which was tasty.

This wasn't my favorite experience. The restaurant itself is nice and service is efficient and decent. Our server was nice and we had no complaints with service overall. It is a little loud in there, but otherwise the restaurant was clean, spacious, and nice decorated. The food was just ok. One of my friends got the gyozas and udon noodles. He said they tasted fine and the portion was large. Another friend got the honey chipotle wings, and another got the blackened shrimp tacos, which were also good. However, I wasn't as lucky. I got the tempura fried green tomatoes, which unfortunately were hard and sour. The duck egg noodles seemed promising. The duck itself was tasty, but there was so much sauce and it was so salty, I could barely eat half the dish. It was far too overwhelming in flavor, and I did not take any leftovers to go.

Ok. I have to preference my pics as I forgot to take them after my appetizer arrived to the table. I was hungry and this initial food was really good. We begin to eat the actual meal prior to me taking any shot, but I wanted to give Kudos to this restaurant as we really enjoyed the dishes that was ordered. So, let's take this as a good sign of how tasty the food was My favorite was the crab and shrimp dip (appetizer). It was delicious. I've had similar, but this was by far the best I've tasted. The restaurant is quaint and I like the decor. It is near the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. Great location for Asian fusion. We really liked this place and will visit again. Another mentioned is the brown rice that came with the salmon. It was tender and not hard like some can be. The asparagus was well prepared as well. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Nice place!

I was happy with welcoming service and quickly served food. I would probably say this is a solid 3.5 experience, but a nod to 4 for no negatives. The food was tasty. I really loved the lobster Rangoon. The pad thai was solid and I wouldn't turn down an invite to go back one day.

I've been to Chant quite a bit and today was the day I finally tried something other than their Fried rice. The service was good and the ambiance is vibey. The live music however was just too loud for me(my opinion). The food was so delicious to me, let's start with the appetizer, we had the quesabirria egg rolls(didn't get a pic, cuz they didn't stand a chance) lol. Those were very flavorful even the sauce they paired it with. I ordered the Korean Fried chicken with the Mac n cheese and cornbread. The entire entree was very different in great way, everything was infused with lots of flavor. My guy tried the steak, potatoes, asparagus and shrimp. He was very pleased with how well the steak was cooked and seasoned. Definitely will be going back to try new things!!

This is our go to restaurant after Bible class on Wednesday nights. Bible class lets out about 8 o'clock p.m. Chants close at 9 o'clock p.m., and we boogie over to Hyde Park in Chicago. We find a parking spot on the street, and pay the meter. We order the food and chow down chow down. This was October 25 which was our 43rd wedding anniversary starting our celebration. No. Shalom.

So I wanted to treat my two besties to dinner and one of them suggested here. Asian-fusion is always hit and miss. This was a safe space in the middle. The Tempura Fried Green Tomatoes were my favorite on the menu, mostly becuase you can't find fried green tomatoes everywhere. And with the tempura batter, it was light and not greasy. The wings, which the sever recommended we request "fried hard", were tasty enoufh. I'm glad we made the request, because even "fried hard" wasn't as crispy as I had expected. My Warm Shrimp Roll reminded me of a po boy, so if that's the vibe you're looking for, definitely try it. Was it the best meal I've had in Chicago? No. Would I recommed coming back here? No. But, if someone else wanted to come here, would I return? Yes

Karla at the bar is not only a sweetheart, but she gives phenomenal services and great drinks at the bar! Whenever you come here just know she gives good vibes, she's sensational!

My wife and I went to Chant on a Friday night without a reservation and we were able to be sat immediately. We were also surprised when the live music began, which was a great touch for our date night. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great recommendations for us. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We will be back!

Great little place with good martinis and live jazz. Lobster ragoon was very good. Fun lively place with a very nice bar tender. Street Parking was pretty easy to find.

Unfortunately my experience here was very subpar and I have to give it this rating because of the food. However, allow me to first say that the servers were very enthusiastic. They constantly checked on my friend and me for water and frequently asked us how everything was, which I responded with good because I didn't want them to take the food back. They checked in a bit too frequently, honestly, but I appreciated it and wouldn't want them to change it. Now the food, it wasn't terrible terrible, but it was far away from good. The crab & shrimp dip tasted like a bland version of the lobster dip in Red Lobster, with way more obscure ingredients that didn't reflect the menu descriptions. I also would've preferred nachos over wonton chips because those wonto chips didn't really go with the dip in my opinion. Then the duck egg noodles were too salty, but was the most edible out of everything. My friend had that one and she commented on how salty it was. I got the sambal fried catfish mac & cheese, and it wasn't good. The catfish was not fried in good quality oil, and in no way I could taste the sambal marination in the catfish. It was very bland. I dipped it in the sauce and it was a little bit better, but even then I could not taste the sambal at all and I ordered the dish for its fusion aspect. Then the mac & cheese still had many slices of unmelted cheese, and tasted bland as well. The napa coleslaw didn't save the day, unfortunately. I ended up not finishing it, which wasn't what I usually would have done. In addition, I don't know if it's because of how oily the food was, or because the oil quality wasn't good enough, my friend and I both had terrible stomachaches afterwards and we were forced to take Pepto tablets to relieve the pain.

TLDR: 4/5. Service was great, food was okay in parts and the vibes were generally pretty good. Good luck on parking. Ordered: Gumbo Shrimp plate Chicken Cashew Gumbo: 3/5 I think I just wasn't use to this kind of gumbo? It had a green sauce, not even a hint of spice so maybe that's the version. I'm use to more of a seafood heavy hence why I was thrown. Shrimp Plate: 5/5 I thought this was great. Just some tempura fried shrimp really. Came out hot and fresh. Chicken cashew: 5/5 I thought this was great too. The sauce was well balanced. The noodles weren't overtaking the dish. A good ratio of noddle actually. This is a good choice if you're looking for something light as well. Service: 5/5 Our server was so nice and friendly. Everything came out super quickly despite the dinner rush. Overall I think I'd come back here to try some other stuff.

We recently ordered the Quesabirria Ramen and were quite disappointed. The $24.44 price tag ended up being $35 after the addition of a very high service fee, tip, and tax. Unfortunately, the size of the dish did not justify the price. The taste of the Quesabirria Ramen was also lacking. Despite being an Asian fusion dish, there was no hint of traditional Ramen flavors. Even the promised steak or beef taste was absent. The broth tasted like water with soy sauce, and the Ramen itself was just noodles with pulled beef, water, and soy sauce. Overall, we were underwhelmed by the Quesabirria Ramen and felt it did not deliver on its promises.

If I could deliver a 0 just for today I would. I also wish I had the initial pictures that set this review into motion, especially in this digital world but due to me believing in giving people a chance, I don't. Yet I hope the reader takes similar value in this review. I love CHANT. One of my favorite restaurants. We asked a few times for more time. I mean it took us 10 minutes to look at a menu we know by now due to all the great items on the menu. Everyyyyyyything looks good. You never know what to order! I come most times for the Lambchops but as always Im eager to encounter the very first day I try another option because again- everything on the menu looks good! Today my friends was NOT that day! Oh I for sho came to CHANT for the Lambchops I normally get. I also came with a friend and raved about how good they were. Everything we tasted was delicious. We ordered the Braised Oxtail (delicious) & Lobster Bisque-for her- "So Good", Quesabirria Egg Rolls (Offffff the Chain), & lastly my Dear Old Lambchop". I began to eat my mashed potatoes & spinach. When I say perfection- I mean perfection. Seasoned well, plated average, but portioned well. But taste- Yes you gets a 10 for that. I then dive into the main cuisine. The starring actor. I knifes my LAMBCHOPS. I mean you know. The reason why Im actually there and the lambchop is so raw (temperature ordered-Well)....And the is running out of it and down the plate. I think it no big deal. It happens. Just inform the waitress- (thats another review) and what begins as ride of poor quality/cooked food begins a trip on poor quality service. I informed the waitress of the poor quality/cooked food and she observed the plate and the complaint. She removed the plate and informed me that they would recook it. I then asked her were they planning to just recook the lamb chops or prepare the dish in its entirety and she stated that she informed her manager and she was unsure. She later came to me & stated that it was going to be the entire dish. I then asked her to pack it to go for me. Upon arriving home and getting settled to finally eat my dinner I observed that there are actually only 2 Lambchops in a box, a portion of my order. Not only did I receive poor quality/cooked food. I also received less than what I paid for and I had to eat it in manner that I did not want to eat it. Some here Some there. CHANT I will continue to speak your name CHANT to potential customers. But the customer service & food quality lacked today. Very disappointed. I was told to check out Chant by one of my friends who previously dined there. Legit their food was so delicious! We were greeted promptly and sat in Bethany's section. She was one of the best servers I've ever had! She gave amazing suggestions and we enjoyed all of them! We started with the Lobster and Shrimp Shumai, then I got the Grilled Lamb Chops and my husband got the Ribeye Steak & Shrimp. We were stuffed, but Bethany convinced us to try the Chant Cheese Cake Wedge. I'm glad she did, because that really rounded out our date night dining experience. If could give 10 stars I would. We definitely will be back!

Haven't visited Hyde Park in a while so it was nice to drive though & see Chant still thriving. I decided to stop in and treat myself to what turned out to be a fantastic choice. Upon entry the vibe was pretty chill. I was greeted by Bethany & other staff members. I eventually was seated. My waitress Ana was very warm. She made me feel welcome & proceeded to give me all star service. She was very attentive even though she seemed to be having a busy day. I started off with the Fried Greem Tomatoes. They arrived hot & crispy. Seasoned & tasty. For my entree I had the braised oxtail. The oxtails were cooked to perfection. They were served with a Cajun fried rice that had a great balanced taste of Thai & Chant's flavors. Again, Ana was a tour guide to Chant's menu. I had questions & Ana had answers or suggestions to go along with her great guest service.

I'm always disappointed when there isn't a seat at the bar with the bartender of bartenders, our Peter, who is so AWESOME!!!! We always know our Chant family will accommodate special requests, the food is fresh, and the service is the absolute BEST - thanks for being our neighborhood gem - we'll see you soon

Best meal and best time I have had in more than a minute. My wife ordered the lamb chops in Panang curry and coconut milk. I went with the oxtail with "Cajun" rice. My wife's was great and my oxtail was simply phenomenal. Live music on the weekend, I was told about Chant by Tre of Tre and the Blue Knights. They brought the music all night. Thankful for Tre. We now have a new "go to" for great food and fun.

Warning to large parties!!! If you come to Chant with a large group expect subpar service because the tip is included and they no longer have to work for it! Last Saturday night we were part of a group of 10 celebrating a birthday. Our server Anna, didn't come back to check on us after delivering our initial order. We wanted more drinks and she was no where to be found. She ghosted us forcing us to go to the bar and order drinks ourselves. So not only did she ghosted us, we were penalized for going to the bar, they closed our tab saying we weren't allowed to go to order more drinks at the bar. What were we supposed to do? After paying a nearly $500 tab we took our business to the Sophy down the street where we finished enjoying more drinks. Because of chant policy of not being allowed to order from the bar but not being served we spent an additional $200 at the Sophy. Anna received a $67 tip for serving us only once. Guaranteed tips hurts the customer. To be fair, the music and ambiance was wonderful, the cocktails were delicious, the appetizers and food was mediocre but the manager did give the birthday boy a free slice of cheesecake after we complained about our tab being closed and abandoned by Anna.

Their portions are very decently sized. Their drinks and appetizers were delicious. Great dinner spot for date night or a friend night out. Our server was so patient and gave great recommendations.

Great casual date spot - wide variety of stuff on the menu, and lots of vegan and vegetarian options. We went on a Sunday at around 6pm after leaving MSI, and were able to get a table immediately (2 people). I got the blackened shrimp tacos, as recommended by our lovely waitress, and they were delicious! Very flavorful. My date got the avocado summer roll, which was also excellent - they really don't skimp on the avocado, which is always appreciated. Overall, service was prompt, ambiance was lovely, food was delicious. I'd definitely come back.

One of my favorite spots in historic Hyde Park, Chant! I've made it a staple to celebrate different occasions including my birthday a few years ago or just stop by for a business lunch or girls night out. Recent visit was 1/11/23. Service was speedy as per usual. We started off with the vegan avocado spring rolls. A light refresher course before we received our entrees halfway into them. I had the chicken fried rice with spicy chili sauce on the side which was much needed as I felt like the rice was a bit dry and on the bland side. See y'all soon!

Happy I made time to stop in during my recent trip to Chicago. My best friend and I stopped in on a Friday night. We were seated right away surprisingly and loved the vibes of the space immediately. Our waitress Olivia greeted us promptly. We had the best service all night. Olivia definitely made us feel welcome and taken care of. I opted for the crab cakes as an app and fried chicken for entree, which was very different for me, but the menu description sold it. The crab cakes were really flavorful. I would definitely get them again. The chicken was extremely crispy and I even enjoyed the mac and cheese. The corn pudding was not what you'd expect. I was thinking traditional, but this had other veggies in it and was much more savory. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected. In all, we had a wonderful time and will make a point to return the next time we are in town.

Had a short rib the other day at this restaurant. The short rib meat was dry and no seasoning at all. The bread was soggy and no real color on the bread. The French fries were limp instead of being crispy. How do you even make limp French fries and the plate that the food was cold instead of being hit so the food cooled off quickly from the kitchen to the table!!!!!!

Order Lo mien (53rd Street noodle) chicken and beef for myself for the first time trying lo mien and also Chant. I enjoyed the lo mien but not as much as my son smash burger from Chant. The burger was so good I'm ordering one for myself when they open 03/22/24

My first time at Chant, was riding around with my cousins looking for a place to eat, have a few drinks, and hang out. Rode past this place and saw the live band in the window so we stopped and went in. The staff was nice, can't comment much on the food we all just had appetizers can't get those wrong. My cousins had some type of sweet wings, I had pot stickers. I ordered some type of lemonade saki, it was alright. The band was really good, I would go here again, and recommend others going as well.

We celebrated our colleague's birthday today after work. We ordered martinisfor our first round of drinks. They were good. Our second round, we ordered their Conflict and Compromise cocktail, which was awesome. We all enjoyed our dinners. Everything was plated and presented well. Not to mention how tasty it was. I had the drunken noodles and it was seasoned well and tasty. My colleagues said the same about their entrees. We could not wait for dessert. We decided to share the waffle cone sundae and molten lava cake. The sundae is huge, but delicious, as well as the lava cake. Overall, I recommend coming here for drinks and dinner. Parking can be problematic but lucky for us, we found a spot the next block over. Everything is tasty. Staff are friendly. Our waiter's name is Juan. Not only is he professional but personable.

Had drunken noodles, which seemed to be almost swimming in a dark sauce, that tasked only slightly heavier than soy sauce. Somehow missed out on choice of protein, so had without. $16 for a small portion. And then chicken wings covered in a thick black sauce. $14 for about 8 wings. Flavors strong, singular, and salty. Ambiance and service was good but I was there for the food. Maybe next time I'll come for something else.

Such a cute little place with amazing food!!! So my friend and I came here on a Sunday literally minute before they opened, they allowed us in about 5 min early, sat us down, gave us menus but told us they weren't ready to take our order just yet. Which is fine. The bartender came up about 3min later and we were able to order drinks. We both ordered a lemon drop martini. Soooo good and strong. We eventually ordered our apps and main courses. So much to choose from on the menu so I ended up ordering the king pao wings and the braised oxtails. Really good and flavorful!!! I will say they automatically add a 18% gratuity to any party size, so just plan for that. Otherwise, I'll be back to try other things on the menu!

Went on a Friday and the music was so loud the waitress couldn't hear us. Many people were in the spot and clearly weren't enjoying themselves because of the volume. A bad experience. They had consider themselves an Asian fusion restaurant but more than 3/4's of the menu isn't Asian.

Tried the Short Rib Melt. Food was well made, fresh and the service by Ana made it taste even better. The place was cozy and felt very alive ambiance.

Our server Ana was great, had the bbq duck tacos and they were amazing, fast and delicious.

The Food is very tasty and the Drinks are off the chain. The service is good too. Very nice place.

Beautiful, cozy space where you can let your hair down and unwind from your work week. Service is fast, friendly and attentive. The drinks start first and it was such a joy to watch them creating. Rigorous shakes with generous pours. Loved the bright and refreshing flavor of my pear martini. The lobster rangoons were a nice bite and came with a special sauce, the catfish was crisp and had a good taste and the chicken was sweet with a bit of heat. Want good food fast, with live music and even livelier drinks, get on over to Chant!

Chant has been in Hyde Park for a long while. The food is good, not anything that comes to my attention. We like to go to listen to the live music and have a couple of beers. The ambience is nice especially in the summer. I've never had a problem with the service - everyone seems pretty friendly.

First time being there I absolutely loved the location. They had a live band which was kind of loud however wasn't a disturbance. The food was very good from the tomatoes, to chicken fried rice, etc. And our server was very sweet, & attentive!

Came for brunch with my girlfriends. Our server Davion was nice. I had the shrimp tacos which were decent, the mango salsa didnt really do much. We shared the kung pao wings and the spinach dip were really good though.

It's always a good vibe and delicious food at this quaint spot in Hyde Park. Go! Sometimes they have live music entertainment. I wish my mojito was a stronger. Overall, great spot for a date, family, or to catch up with friends. Street parking is metered.

It's the location that sells the restaurant. The food is limited and mediocre. The drinks were the best thing at the restaurant.

So I was excited for this place but it fell flat. First I ff they were out of all the appetizers. Literally only had Calamari at 5pm on a Sunday. The calamari was pure bland rubber. The main dishes were amazing. I mean AMAZING, the oxtails and short ribs were juicy and falling off the bone. Not over seasoned and flat out delicious. The duck fat rice legit was EVERYTHING. The service was non existent and irritating. Waited 10mins for a glass of water and an additional 10minutes for the server. Had the entrees not been so amazing it would've been 1 star.

I came to eat a few weeks ago. Service was amazing. the food was sooo good!! We had Oxtails and some drinks. It was simply to delicious!! Our server was awesome and really made me wish I lived in Chicago!!! I told him he rocked!!

I was first introduced to Chant by an ex and have been wanting to get back. I decided to treat myself to lunch there after a hair appt. I got lucky and scored parking right out front. Once I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly person who joked with me and quickly showed me to a booth. It was quiet and the patrons who were there, were spaced appropriately. Some of the entrees have a wine pairing recommendation, which I appreciated. I ordered lamb chops, which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I also paired it with the pinot noir recommended on the menu. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly! If I could change anything, I would have ordered the sauce they were drenched in on the side. It was good but I don't even think the chops needed them. And the wine was wonderful with my meal. So glad Chant survived the pandemic.

De-dang-licious!!!!!! Had the gyoza, calamari, fried rice, and tasted the jambalaya and everything was great!!! The service was efficient and helpful. Ambiance was warm yet elegant. Definitely one of my new favorites!!!!

It was a Friday Night, we were in Hyde Park, and my girlfriend had wanted to try Chant for many years. That made the decision easy. We showed up with no reservation and expecting there to be an unreasonable wait, but the person at the door said 30 minutes and he'd text me when the table was ready. We did a small walking tour of Hyde Park (honestly I could make a separate post about this... I have so many questions... looking at you parking people!). We were about 15 minutes into our walking tour when the text came that our table was ready. We were sat at the front of the restaurant in this nice wood booth. When I say wood, it looks like the table was part of tree that a slab was cut out of and turned into a table. It had a natural shape to it and was gorgeous. The booth was meant to sit more than 2 people, but I wasn't about to complain. After doing perusing the menu and its ample choices. We each came to a conclusion. She had the Pad Thai, and I had the Jambalaya. She liked her Pad Thai, she had nothing but good things to day about it. My jambalaya was fantastic. I've always enjoyed Jambalaya, but this is probably some of the best I've had in Illinois. The ingredients on their own were flavorful, but when combined with the broth, it was amazing. Apparently I made "yummy eating noises" while I consumed it. For desert we shared a molten lava cake. It was okay. It wasn't bad, but I was not impressed. Then again I had just ate a big bowl of Jambalaya that was so good that I'm trying to figure out if I can get it delivered to my house. So my taste buds may not have been ready for the sweetness. Not only is the food great, but I thought the ambience was awesome too. The architecture was that of exposed brick done in a crumbling building style. With a lot of South East Asia influence. Something about it made me feel really relaxed. It was kind of romantic and relaxed at the same time. If you are in the area, I would recommend giving Chant a try.

I hadn't been to Chant in years, but my little brother was in town so we met his dad there for dinner. His dad knows the owner so he's been a longtime customer. We ended up at the location for this reason. We walked in on weeknight and was seated immediately. Our server was attentive and polite. The restaurant was clean and I found the ambiance warm. I also appreciated that our server was wearing a mask. I ordered the gumbo. I liked it but didn't care for the chicken. It had no flavor which took away from the overall taste of the meal. The gumbo roux was good though and so was the andouille sausage. I wouldn't order it again though just because of the chicken. My sister had the cashew chicken which she really liked. I tasted it and agreed that it was good, but the chicken was flavorless again. I could tell that it was the same chicken that was in the gumbo. They just cooked a large pot of it and put it in every dish. The spicy soy sauce definitely made the chicken more palatable though. My sister also had the chocolate cake which she didn't like. She took one bite and didn't want anymore. My bro tried it too and he also didn't like it. My brother first ordered the short ribs & Thai chili lo mein, but he sent it back because he didn't like the taste. He ordered something else which he enjoyed much more. I can't recall the name of the second dish though. (see pic) Lastly, my brother's dad had some chicken wings and a salad. He frequents Chant so you already know what he thought about his food. I should also note that my brother, sister and I all got sick after eating the food. My brother's dad didn't so it had to be something that is in all the wok dishes. I had a stomach ache but my siblings ended up being in the bathroom half the night. No bueno. Needless to say that didn't help this review.

Carla makes a yummy lemon drop martini. Great vibe, great afternoon...go give it a try. You won't be sorry!
