"Locals swarm for the classic, approachable menu — ranging from Cajun crawfish fries smothered with a chipotle cream sauce to the Hamm burger, named after executive chef Peter Hamm, with a blend of ground chuck, short rib, and beef brisket with caramelized onions, pork belly, gorgonzola spread on brioche to a vegetarian-friendly option with hummus and spinach-stuffed wraps. Salads, haddock and fries, and daily specials are also on offer." - Nikki Miller-Ka

WOW!! The atmosphere was fun and cozy. The food was amazing!! We had a variety from the corn chowder to the French Dip, Jam buger, and crab dip, chicken sandwich, and pecan berry salad.. We all left full and satisfied. We also had various beer, a whiskey lavender, strawberry special, and sangria..

A Saturday afternoon 1pm. The three times I've tried this place and can't seem to have a nice experience. The hostess counter is like a sign that says "please go away"! We walked in today and the hostess said "we are really backed up in the kitchen so it will be a 30 minute wait". We said we'd wait and sat down near the front door. We waited 15 minutes, not 30 before our table was ready. In that 15 minutes, that hostess sent away four parties of 2 by telling them about"at least 35 minutes of wait.". This is the third time we were told of a at least a 30 minute wait and never waited more than 10 or 15 minutes. They just send people away If you wait outside at a table, there is no waitress for drinks. You have to go inside and stand behind the customers sitting at the bar and try to get the bartenders attention. I suggest lighting yourself on fire, it is that difficult to get their attention! As far as table service, we received great service by the waiter and our burger and fish tacos were good. I'd order them again. But, there are too many great restaurants in Southern Pines and Pinehurst to put up with the service at the hostess counter. But three times in a row! That's called "Strike three!"

Google
Not my best photo, but the fish tacos are absolutely delicious. I’m always hesitant to get them because they are on the messier side, but if that doesn’t bother you, go for it. The crab dip is absolutely fantastic as well, but order a second order of pita chips. We’ve gone to Chapman’s a lot over the years and usually it’s delicious, but other times the service has been terrible and the food can be a miss 😞 overall a great restaurants with some hiccups here and there.

Came here for lunch on a nice afternoon, had some of their fall menu Baked Crab dip, Brie Grilled Cheese. Bacon Jam burger was nice and flavorful, my girlfriend got the grilled cheese and said it was the best sandwich she’s had in an ever.

Awesome food and really nice people. The service was amazing.

Google
Cute restaurant! Very cozy and home-y ma and pop atmosphere. Our waitress was very pleasant and service was just the right amount- we didn’t feel hovered or ghosted. Portions were of perfect sizes. I cleaned both plates! I personally had the cream of mushroom soup and the house salad, and everything came out in a very timely manner and was delicious…also was of very fresh quality. Only negative I would say was that most dishes (all besides mine) came in trays which you either love it or hate it. Prices were very reasonable. Cute little cozy restaurant to visit whenever you’re in town!

Took my family there for dinner on a Tuesday and there was a wait. The meals were mostly sandwiches but they were very very good. I had one of the fish sandwiches which was pretty good. Everyone enjoyed their eats, even the kids. We sat outside which was pleasant in early June.

Chapman’s Food and Spirits located at 157 E New Hampshire Ave, Southern Pines, NC 28387 is a World Class Tavern/Restaurant featuring very high quality ingredients crafted by Master Chefs. Their Burger’s are among the very best of the best that I have had in many years. Chargrilled perfectly and in combinations that are phenomenal. I don’t like Horseradish except in cocktail sauce and then very minimally, but liked their horsey sauce that came on my burger. Last night (Saturday) the kitchen was slammed, so the food took a bit of time, and my burger came with all of the ingredients despite me requesting no Kimchi, no tomato, and no horsey sauce. I always have my burgers with basically cheese and onion only. I took a bite of the burger and it was so great that I didn’t even send it back to be remade. Their nachos are also really good and a gigantic plate too. My only complaint would be that the place got really loud eventually. I would suggest ceiling acoustical tile that would absorb the sound some, maybe carpet too. Parking can be tricky but I got lucky. Waiter was excellent and checked on us frequently. If I lived nearby, this would be my favorite Restaurant! Follow my reviews if you would, I have over 102 Million views to them and am a rare level 10 Reviewer for Google Guides.

Yelp
Since it was a rainy Sunday we decided to check out an area not too far from home. After talking with a shop owner she recommended we try Chapman's. We wandered over in the light rain and had a great meal. The wife and I both decided to try the burgers and they were amazing. Well seasoned and cooked to temp. The meat was a mix and was very good. The only thing that could have made this better is if they did fresh cut fries. Not that the ones they served were bad, I just like fresh cut fries. May be a little pricey but the food and service was worth it. If in the area again would definitely dine here again.

Yelp
Chapman's is a greag spot for food and drinks on a weekend evening in Southern Pines. Easy parking, fun outdoor seating, and great service. Their signature crawfish fries were a great appetizer to share. The bacon jam burger had great bacon jam (a must because of the name!) but it was nearly unseasoned. Throw some salt in the seasoning of the patty, and this is a 5 star review. Would likely go back again, nonetheless!

EC M.

Yelp
Fish and chips are legit. Heard good reviews on the burgers too. Bar/Dining room is all jacked up...eat outside or get to go!

Bren H.

Yelp
WOWZA this place is AMAZING!! Stopped here for lunch and certainly did not disappoint. Such a cool atmosphere! We had a great server! She was efficient and very friendly with great recs too. We ordered the shrimp tacos and the blackened salmon tacos (a special during Feb). The waitress did warn us they would be messy...which they were but only because they were filled tacos. All the toppings complimented each taco perfectly - fresh slaw, wasabi aioli, pico - just YUM. Note the shrimp tacos come with 2 while the fish/salmon come with 3 tacos. 2 tacos were very filling to my stomach regardless. Can't forget about their delicious sides either - a yummy mixed green salad with roasted red pepper dressing or beer batter fries. ALL SO GOOD! The table beside us ordered their meal with a side of crawfish fries so important to note for next time. All food came fast and fresh! We will be back!

Yelp
Biggest fish (trout) sandwich I've ever seen. It was on the specials menu so I don't know if they still serve it. Great little place. Give 'em a try.

Janet R.

Yelp
Our group ordered quite a variety of menu items. Caesar salad, poke with an amazing ginger sauce made fresh, crispy Brussels Sprouts with General Tso's sauce, Hamm burgers, beet salad and a cheeseburger. Every single thing was fabulous! Vanessa was a terrific server, too. This place is very nice. Friendly people, great food, nice ambiance, fair prices.

Andrea R.

Yelp
terrible food, drinks, AND service. Worst part is, they automatically force you to pay a 20% tip REGARDLESS of the service. This place needs to re evaluate how they run things. I would NEVER come back. Ambiance is terrible. Loud and crammed. Manager was very rude.

Jack B.

Yelp
Had an excellent burger today at this restaurant. Meat was delicious and bun was good. I would have given them 5 stars if the burger was a little bigger. It is only 6 oz prior to cooking. 7 ounces would be much better. Although a bit small it was cooked perfectly to medium rare.

Erika D.

Yelp
I've never seen such terrible customer service. My fiancé ordered a drink that was awful, and when he tried to exchange it, they refused. The manager came over, extremely rude, and argued with him instead of resolving the issue. She took the drink away without his consent and still charged us for it, adding a mandatory 20% tip. This place is terrible, and their customer service is unacceptable. I definitely won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Glenn C.

Yelp
2 stars for service and 3.5 for food. Running a restaurant where 1 waitress handles all the tables in a room is a disaster. Took a long time for water because she wanted to carry a large tray of 15 water glasses. Likewise, she took many people's orders at once, carried mixed drinks for the room at once, and gave people's checks together. Doesn't work well when you have many single checks for large parties. This restaurant was recommended by the frontdesk person who knows the owner. Ironically, many people brought food from the kitchen. Why didn't they help more. Took too long to get a credit card back. Water refills were not possible. Let's add to being paged to sit at the bar when I didn't want the bar and originally told them so. Having to wait double time from down the street. Finally, let's get to the food. Fish taco and burgers are popular. I went for the half rack ribs lots of meat with fries. I upcharged to get crawfish sauce specialty. The sauce was very good. The fries seasoning was a fail. This was also an appertizer l. My side caesar came with my meal. My rum mixed drink special with coconut and other fruits was a winner. Bread for 2 dollars is a joke. You could eat outside.

Yelp
We do need to throw a shout out to Chapman's in Southern Pines for the lunch we had on Saturday, my birthday, but we didn't say anything until very close to the end of the meal so the service and food was all them! Brandon and Erika were over the top with the service. The Chef prepared the best Hamm Burger we've had, although I could swim in the sauce that's on the crawfish fries! Y'all definitely need to try them! Butch had the fish and we had leftovers for dinner this weekend. Really super sweet was Brandon's "hypothetical" question. 'If a dessert just happen to land in front of you, what would it "hypothetically" be?' I normally do not indulge in dessert but we ate it all! The key lime pie was delectable!! Thank you Chapman's and your warm hospitality!

Megan S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food and phenomenal service! The crawfish fries and pasta Vodka are amazing, no one at our table even had to ask once for a refill, the servers were totally on it. Definitely a must visit place if you're in town.

Nahu R.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The ambiance was wonderful not to mention the food here would definitely come back!

Beverly W.

Yelp
Nice place for lunch. I had the haddock but it was a bit heavy on the batter. Husband was happy with his gyro.

Dom D.

Yelp
Food was great, service was poor- almost felt as though we (mix couple) were being treated very different- Wife found hair in her food, didn't want to make a scene; but establishment never tried to make it right, or at least address the issue- I would highly recommend avoiding this place... I may be wrong; but I doubt it-

Rebekah T.

Yelp
My husband and I tried this for the first place on a whim and we loved it! We made the mistake (or great idea) of ordering the nachos as an appetizer and it was huge!! We probably should've shared an entree afterwards but we both got our own and loved them! We had a great server and are excited to go back!

Josh T.

Yelp
I have never in my life experienced such poor service and unprofessionalism. I ordered a drink that was undrinkable and tried to exchange it, but they outright refused. The manager, who was incredibly rude, confronted me and argued instead of resolving the issue. She even took the drink away without my consent and still charged me for it, adding a mandatory 20% tip on top. This place is awful, and their customer service is abysmal. Avoid at all costs!

Aleesha N.

Yelp
The food here is so good. I have never had a bad meal here and the service is always good. Great location in downtown too.

Alicia B.

Yelp
Great location in the heart of downtown Southern Pines. Food is always tasty. Service is quick and they don't rush you to finish. You can sit outside or inside if the weather allows.

Tania M.

Yelp
We were a party of 4 for Saturday night. The wait was over an hour, but it was so worth it. As soon as we entered we loved the feel of the place. The decor was awesome - even in the bathroom! There is outside seating in front and in the back of the restaurant. There are also several rooms for dining. Our server was hilarious and awesome. He truly made our evening outstanding. We read reviews about the crawfish fries so we had to give them a whirl. Wow, they were good! The crawfish and sauce were so good, I would put it on anything! I also ordered the fish tacos. They were outstanding. All 4 of us loved our meals. Zero complaints about this place. Next time I'm in the area- I will definitely come back!

Lori D.

Yelp
Came here around 12:30 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Had to wait 40 minutes and it was worth the wait. Cute downtown to keep us occupied. We started with the pretzel and dips. Yum! Beer cheese dip was cold which was unexpected. Pretzels were hot and yummy. We were warned that the kitchen was backed up. All good. Food was all fresh and cooked just right. Their salad dressings tasted homemade. Both were yummy vinaigrette's. My son loved his pasta and I liked my sandwich. Only ate half and the whole salad. Beer was good too! Lovely outdoor seating and indoor looked nice too. Friendly service.

Michael B.

Yelp
Excellent menu ,excellent seafood and traditional southern dishes , courteous staff ,looking forward to returning.

Michael R.

Yelp
My sister and I took my parents to Pinehurst for a getaway weekend. We spent the better part of Saturday afternoon in Southern Pines and decided to go to Chapman's based on the recommendation of my sister and the reviews in Yelp. We were not disappointed. It was a nice Saturday afternoon, and we were able to sit at an outside table. The group had Fish Tacos. Cranberry & Roasted Pecan Salad and the Fish and Chips. The food was great and the beer was cold. A great combination and a fantastic way to spend lunchtime my parents.

Mark B.

Yelp
This is a must-stop place when I'm in town from LA. Very thoughtful menu options with the Hamm Burger at the top of the list. The meat is so fresh! A rarity in most restaurants. The blend of sweet caramelized onions with the salty notes of gorgonzola makes for savory-sweet love fest. Throw in pork belly and a brioche bun and I'm in heaven. I secretly want the Dr. Pepper pork ribs but I'm a creature of habit. So until I break the Hamm Burger pattern, I''ll keep it as a Plan B. Staff is super friendly. Lots of hustle and bustle so don't plan on an intimate experience here. Instead, sit back and take it all in. Keep up the great work? I'm a fan.

Brian M.

Yelp
Great place!! Burger one of the best ever. Good bourbon selection. Old fashion was top notch. Beer list solid as well.

Bridget C.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Service was good. They only allow the check to be split in 2. That is the only negative thing I can say.

Ruby D.

Yelp
Good spot for better bar food, away from the chaos of the Pinehurst circus. Southern Pines has a few worthy spots and this is one of them.

Lindsey F.

Yelp
Loved this spot, bellied up to the bar, had chaps signature lemonchillo cocktail and shrimp Rangoon.... Oh so good. Then for dinner had shrimp peprada ravioli... def would get it again. It came with at least 6 large shrimp and huge spinach ravioli. The sauce was creamy and garlicky and perfect for dipping with the bread that came with it, great find! 10/10

Annette H.

Yelp
This was a great find in Southern Pines. We have eaten here several times and have tried something different each time never to be disappointed. Great staff and chef.

Robin S.

Yelp
Bartender was great. Awesome Jalapeño margarita! Fresh...no sour mix The food was really good too I would suggest putting up a sign saying no kids allowed at the bar. Having a little kid sitting at the bar should t be allowed.

John R.

Yelp
Looks like a sleepy little place (nestled in a small town) from the outside, but open the door and wow, every table is full and the phone orders are ringing off the hook. We tried the spinach dip, gyro, and chicken sandwich and all were delightful! Fries were excellent! The waiter told us with conviction that everything on the eclectic menu was really good...he was right! Will definitely return to this restaurant the next time we're in the area.

Allison D.

Yelp
Food is always exceptional and service is always on point! Nice casual atmosphere for fellowship and relaxation. Highly recommend!

Joe L.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service gets a little loud, would highly recommend. In the warmer weather outside service is nice

Britt B.

Yelp
We dined at Chapman's with my in laws recently and overall had a good experience. However, due to the incredibly inaccurate wait and rudeness/attitude of one of the hostesses, I was debating whether to give this spot 3 or 4 stars. Thankfully, the food was great as was our waitress. I called a few weeks ago to make a reservation and they don't take reservations, totally fine - I get some places do that. I asked if there would be a wait as long as we got there on a Saturday by 5pm, they said no, we would be fine. We get there at 5pm and of course there is a 20-25 minute wait. This was also totally fine. We went to the wine cellar a few shops down, and enjoyed a glass of wine. Over 35 minutes had passed, and I didn't get the text notification, so we walked back. I get there and they tell me we are next up. Eventually, 20-25 minutes turned into 50-55 minutes, and this was not fine. One of the hostesses tried to tell me I was wrong and I pulled out my phone to show her when I received the text confirmation originally. I worked in restaurants on and off for 10-15 years and telling a customer a wait is 20 minutes when it is almost an hour, not acceptable. We also had a concert to attend so didn't have an hour to wait. If we would have been told an hour to begin with, also fine, but that was not the case. We could have found another spot. Which made this worse was one of the hostesses was incredibly rude, I get you are a teenager and probably not what you wanted to do on your Saturday night (hey, neither did I), but you are in the service industry, just like I was. Learn to be respectful of your customers, especially when your customers are not being disrpectful to you, and YOU made a mistake or a miscalculation. I stayed respectful and even apologized for asking so much, but I was assertive, and she did not like this. However, the other hostess that was with her was very kind and apologetic, and understanding of the frustration and their very inaccurate time estimate. She was so kind that at the end, I wanted to thank her for her kindness and trying to finally accommodate us as quickly as possible, but could not find her. It really just goes to show that customer service/being organized can make a difference on a dining experience, or really any experience for that matter. All of that being said, after over an hour we finally sat down. Thankfully, our experience instantly improved. Our waitress, although busy, was incredibly attentive and friendly. The food was pretty amazing too. We started with the crawfish fries and these were delicious! A creamy sauce with fresh crawfish served over fries, we had the sauce on the side and dipped them. I would order this dish 10x over. For entrees, my husband got the fish tacos, and I got the chicken fajitas. Both of these were delicious! My in laws got the fried halibut and shrimp tacos which also looked good. I was really impressed with the food, very quality and tasty in a very casual and cozy atmosphere. Despite the initial experience not being great, it did turn around when we finally sat down, and the food was delicious. Not only this, it's in adorable downtown Southern Pines. I would absolutely give this cozy place another shot, but I also recommend management discussing the importance of professionalism, kindness, and organization. Those three things will get you further in life if you practice them.

Adi E.

Yelp
Best Margarita!! Jalapeño and cucumber. Got the pretzels and beer cheese; nachos with everything to start. So good. .The best French dip! That au jus is awesome. Side salad with roasted red pepper dressing. My kids got the Mac n cheese and chicken tenders. Everything was excellent!! Including service. My new favorite restaurant in Pinehurst area! Will definitely be back.

Tom K.

Yelp
Excellent quality for the price. Great service! Can be a bit loud depending on where you are seated.

Jack C.

Yelp
I was in Southern Pines for business and had a taste for some fish tacos. OMG! The grilled/blackened fish tacos here were some of the best I've had anywhere in the country. The photo does not do it justice but the order comes with 3 tacos stuffed with flaky white fish topped with freshness that includes kimchi, cole slaw, shredded lettuce and an awesome Wasabi Aioli. Service was 5 stars and you get a choice of sides, I got the Ceasar salad. Unsweetened ice tea and they never let your glass go empty. Next time I'm there I have to do a video for our travel channel! https://youtube.com/channel/UC7OnslOSCbVS_YcdfvgrDzA

Kevin O.

Yelp
Since moving to the area, we've gone to Chapman's some ten times, and aside from some "B--" server meals, the restaurant is FANTASTIC. The place is very open and clean, has a nice sidewalk setup, amazing food with a diverse menu, and is very reasonably priced. Don't look any further for a lovely meal-- you'll wish you had come here instead.

John F.

Yelp
The food was good but not great. For parties of 5 or more a "service charge" is added. Fair enough but call it what it is, a tip to the server. The percentage was not listed. Most restaurants automatically add 18%, allowing you to tip more where appropriate. Chapman's charges 22% and doesn't want you to know it. What if the service wasn't that good? You still pay the higher than warranted tip. Won't happen to me again. Bye bye Chapman's!

Gena K.

Yelp
Amazing !!! Food is phenomenal! The staff is always on point and on top of their game!

Norm A.

Yelp
One of our absolute go to places in Southern Pines, awesome old time looking bar. Food's just amazing, I'd suggest their fish & chips and beef stroganoff! Their assortment of burgers etc are equally awesome. We've never had a bad order here, we routinely bring clients here too. Huge assortment of tab beer to include Guinness! I hate a pub without it right! Go enjoy this great local eatery with confidence.

Kate M.

Yelp
Fantastic! Brought a large party for a birthday celebration. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. Very gracious waitstaff.

Shanna C.

Yelp
Amazing food and mellow atmosphere! Great beers and drinks as well. Kids portions are huge, so just prepare for leftovers ;)

Joseph P.

Yelp
We've been here several times and have always enjoyed the food and drinks. There is a nice front outdoor space with umbrella coverage. The burgers are excellent, they also have a specials menu, which have some unique offerings. The service is attentive.

Linda W.

Yelp
Rude! Part of my party purposely arrived early to have a drink at the bar. They weren't allowed to sit there because it was part of dinner service. it wasn't their first time there but it will be our last!

Angki S.

Yelp
Good foods .. fast service .. nice bartender .. very crowded in weekend especially in nice day when sit outside is the option. I had the Gyro .. very simple but tasty n fresh .. crips house made chips just ask less to no salt

Nathan M.

Yelp
Great food definite and service. Outdoor seating is great in the warmer weather. Inside is just as great. Good variety of options. Lots of food to choose from and varying alcohol. Always a good choice and is my go to when entertaining guests.

Sky T.

Yelp
Mmm, Cajun Crawfish Fries...that's what my co-worker introduced me to when I first got here. Super decadent with the chipotle cream sauce. The flavor profile of the crawfish isn't fishy or anything like that, but more like a meatier shrimp closer to a lobster that melds very well with the fries. Definitely must try here!! Great to share too, but a little on the messier side that is well worth it. We also got the Hummus and Pita too which was classic and what you would expect. We actually used the pita bread to soak up some of the delicious cream sauce from the fries. Haha, what can I say? Sauce is boss! For the main entree, I ended up getting the Bacon Jam Burger and opted for the side salad instead of more fries. Gotta have some greens, ya know? Anyways, this burger is super delicious too with lovely melted cheese over a well cooked patty, classic lettuce, tomato, and onion, and the bacon jam that added an extra umph! Chapman's cooks very delicious food and I'm sure whatever you get here you'll be pleased with! Overall, great restaurant with good service and yummy food.

Kristyn F.

Yelp
Ate lunch here, great place to stop in for a drink and food. Service was friendly and fast. Sat in the bar area and enjoyed two local beers and the beet salad. They have a good selection of local beers on tap. The menu selections are broad and everything looked good coming from the kitchen. My husband had the fish tacos, those were really good. The beet salad was very filling, presentation of both dishes was perfect. Will be back to try the fish and chips!

Alexa S.

Yelp
Love this spot! I dream of their turkey sandwich. It's so good & is a decent size. I've been here a couple times now and have always been impressed with the service and food! One of my favorite spots in Southern Pines/Pinehurst area!
