"This casual bakery and lunch/dinner counter in Midtown Anchorage serves some of the city’s best Chinese food. Among the menu favorites are the translucent crystal dumplings, mu shu pork wraps, and the sticky rice with chicken and pork steamed in lotus leaves. The menu expands with additional dim sum on Saturdays. In the bakery, look for barbecue pork buns, egg tarts, red bean cream pie, and light-as-air birthday cakes." - Julia O'Malley

Google
4 stars It’s hard to find Chinese food in Anchorage but Charlie’s bakery provided a wide variety of options including fried rice, chow mien, and dim sums. We ordered beef noodle and noodle soup with pork chops. I liked their pork chops- well cooked and finely seasoned. The noodle soup was not thick and a bit oily so I didn’t finish it. They also served some desserts such as cheesecakes and chocolate rolls. The food came in HUGE portion, so you can share dishes or finish in two meals.

Absolutely the best Chinese food in Anchorage. Tonight we got the shrimp and noodle soup, and also the sesame chicken entree, as well as some pork buns. The portion sizes were plentiful, flavor amazing, and prices fair. The employees were all super nice and helpful too. 10/10 recommend.

We finally got a chance to try Charlie’s Bakery, and they didn’t disappoint. It’s not always easy to find Chinese food that perfectly matches your preferred style of cooking, but Charlie’s Bakery hit the mark for us. Everything we tried was just awesome. We had the Sesame Chicken, spicy wontons, pot stickers, chicken chow mein, white rice, and house fried rice. The sesame chicken was a standout. It was incredibly crispy—cue the happy dance—and bursting with flavor. The spicy wontons were a new experience for us, but we thoroughly enjoyed them with a side of vegetables. They had a satisfying heat that paired well with the tender wonton wrappers. The pot stickers were equally impressive, featuring a great filling with just the right amount of crisp on the bottom. Even their chili oil was a pleasant surprise; we've had some bad experiences with chili oil in the past, but this one was spot on. The white rice was perfectly sticky, or maybe we imagined it because we were so excited about our meal. The house fried rice was made exceptionally well, with a surprisingly smoky flavor and generous portions of pork and shrimp. The chow mein was the last dish that was made just right. The facility itself was modern and clean, providing a comfortable dining atmosphere. The service was decent, and although the prices were a bit high, it’s something we expected in Alaska. We didn’t get any desserts this time, but we will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Charlie’s Bakery has won us over, and we can’t wait for our next visit.

A pretty authentic and tasty Chinese restaurant. The dishes are made to order, for the most part, so they are fresh. Based on what we got, and the responses from other customers in the restaurant, this is a place to return. Overall, a good experience.

Been craving Dim Sum and was told this is the only spot in town. Menu is very limited and prices were steep for what we’re accustomed to. But as I just mentioned, only spot in town. We had multiple places we were eating at so we didn’t order too much. The bean curds were good but at almost $12, I’m not sure. The Har Gow were big and juicy. The spicy wontons were our favorite

We love it here. Food is always amazing! The best part are the desserts they have. You won't be disappointed!

The sticky rice is always a hit. I love the flavors and meat. Skip the scallion pancake. Not worth 12 bucks for a tiny pancake of dough and barely Any scallions. The jjang noodles was meh. The spicy wonton was not worth it. Tiny and not as good as I was hoping. It's not bad, but I wouldn't order it again if I go back. The sweet breads do sell out quick so definitely go there early before they sell out. The sesame balls were cooked longer so most of the seeds were burnt.
