Chatayee Thai - Review - Midtown Village - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"If first impressions were true, then walking into this Thai restaurant in Midtown Village would tell you everything you need to know. It’s massive, has a long bar, and is decorated with everything from Buddhist statues to hanging floral garlands. So, yes, it’s good for a big group, having a drink (but skip the rum-overpowered Long Thailand Iced Tea), and chowing down on traditional dishes like massuman curry and khao soi. But the reality is the mains are just okay—think bland curries and overcooked prawns. Starters, like the firecracker rolls and the tangy larb kai, are the only way to go. When it comes to food, a good first impression means nothing unless it's a good first bite. photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN Pause Unmute Food Rundown Long Thailand Iced Tea We thought the addition of of Thai tea and cream would make this rum, whiskey, and brandy mash-up smoother. MCLEAN Larb Kai It may look like a mound of chaos—one with a great florist—but this mix of minced chicken, leafy romaine, chilis, and herbs is the best thing we’ve eaten here. Order it. The Best Thai and Laotian Food in Philly | Eater Philly

"With hand-carved sculptures, original art set on richly hued walls, and sparkling chandeliers, this spacious Midtown Village spot, named for chef Chatayee Kapugthong, goes heavy on the glam. In the dining room, a well-executed menu of Thai classics arrive topped with fresh herbs and decorative veggie flowers, while a selection of street snacks keeps the bar packed from happy hour until late night. There’s also a separate vegan menu (don’t skip the autumn rolls)." - Ernest Owens

Philadelphia Restaurants and Bars Opening Soon | Eater Philly

"I’m intrigued that Chef Chatayee Venus is bringing a Thai concept to 1227 Walnut Street in what was Walnut Street Supper Club/Cibo; given the chef’s profile, I expect authentic, ingredient-driven Thai dishes in a Center City setting." - Rachel Vigoda

Google
Their menu doesn't have a lot of dishes. The first dish is a chicken with veggie in a special curry sauce. It tastes pretty good but takes quite a long time to be served. The second dish is a noodle soup that suppose to has a Tom Yum base but we didn't taste any tom yum flavor. It is neither spicy nor sour; all we taste is the coconut milk so kinda disappointed. It comes with like a pad thai noodle, pork, fried shallot, and peanut. The appetizer is good; it's very crispy with meat/shrimp filling, dip in a sweet and spicy sauce.

Google
Incredible service here, with a good value happy hour menu. Items listed in happy appear to be full portions just like the regular menu, making it a bang for your buck. I ordered the chicken satay. They were smoky and juicy, I liked the peanut sauce was on the side. I had a chefs special curry noodle dish. It was fab, just ask for their spice condiments, so you can adjust the heat to your liking. Def recommend.

Literally one of, if not, the best Thai restaurants in Philly. The decorations were so beautiful and the service was nice. All of the foods we got were surprisingly delicious, and we just kept devouring them. My favorite was the Khao soi, a noodle curry dish!!’

Google
Incredibly friendly and accomodating staff. I was very very impressed with my experience here. The food is good. Their vegetarian pad thai is amazing. Highly recommended spot!

Don’t leave Philadelphia without having a meal at this restaurant. Food was totally orgasmic. The ambience and customer service is to die for. Mango sticky rice my favorite dessert.

Google
Wow! This restaurant is amazing. The perfect place to eat a nice dinner with friends or with that special someone. The chicken Satay appetizer was very good and the taste was great. I had the shrimp, veggie and rice meal. It's authentic Thai Cuisine. The music playing in the background with active quiet conversation sets the mood quite nicely. The Staff is exceptional, the vibe is really good. You just have to try this place for dinner.

Google
We visited a Thai restaurant for the first time. The food is quite distinctive and rather spicy, even though we requested a mild level of heat. For example, the dish in the photo with the candle is a warm chicken salad with various ingredients in a tangy, marinade-like sauce — not the most pleasant smell at first, but the taste is very nice and actually soothes the taste buds after the spicy dishes. We also ordered main dishes with chicken and beef, which were spicy, but the salad and cocktails helped balance the heat. I’m giving it 4 stars purely based on taste — Thai cuisine just didn’t impress me as much as others. The food took about 30 minutes to arrive, but that’s to be expected from a proper, elegant place rather than fast food. The non-alcoholic cocktails were excellent. Service was outstanding — polite and calm — and we were very pleased with it!

Google
Had a Wonderful experience! They have a separate Vegan menu with ton of options. I have been to many Thai Places but some options here were really unique. I was very impressed. Would highly recommend :)

Yelp
Cute interior with well-spaced layout. They had a nice piano--it would be cool if they had live music here. I came in a group of 3, and I tried their Thai iced tea and Pad Thai shrimp and crab special. The Thai iced tea was a good level of flavor and sweetness. The noodles were covered with a nice pancake that reminded me a bit of an okonomiyaki, and the noodles were flavorful and nicely cooked! I liked the pieces of crab but just wish there were more! Would definitely get that dish again :) I also tried some of the beef khao soi--the curry had nice flavor, but there could have been more sauce. Would come again / get takeout here!

Yelp
I had two of the best meals I've ever had in my life here. Randomly stopped in after a conference -- to the surprise best meal I've ever had. Chef Venus really lives up to her namesake -- I really felt love in each of these meals. And I appreciated the history of the meals shared by the staff.

Yelp
Great ambiance and friendly service. You can't beat the happy hour specials. We loved the Roti and all our dishes. My drink was tasty & well-balanced.

Yelp
I only went for happy hour and it was amazing im definitely going back. A beautiful restaurant with excellent service. The drink was a fresh strawberry gimlet and I had chicken skewers and firecracker spring rolls and only spent like 22$. I can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
I'm wondering if it's even possible to have a bad experience here. My cocktail, appetizer, and curry were all fantastic. As was my server, a delight. I refuse to stop singing their praises.

Yelp
Saw this place and had to try their food. Our server is very attentive and friendly. The place has a lot of seating and bathroom is very clean. It did had a smell when we came in.

Yelp
Had their Spicy basil fried rice and Boom bai kai curry last night after a year or so, still the same quality and taste! I am usually very happy with the Mango chili margarita but last night's had a very artificial taste. I prefer the Tom Yum on the rocks (which has Lemongrass and Galangal) over it. We also got one of the winter specials called Kang Tumee Pla which was quite disappointing. In the description, it says the dish is a must try but I would advise against it. There were 3 large absolutely bland pieces of cod fish, in a spoonful of curry. The curry by itself was delicious but barely enough for 1 person.

Yelp
Delicious food and lovely staff. Came here on a weekend for dinner without a reservation, but they were very accommodating. I got the vegan pad thai -- thai spicy level. The pad thai was flavorful, despite the heat. It had a strong kick to it, but wasn't the spiciest thing I ever had. I loved the shredded cabbages on the side. Helped cut the spice a bit. Interior was very clean and nicely decorated. Would definitely recommend this place to others!

Yelp
On a short trip to Philly, I ended up having dinner here twice. It's a deceptively large restaurant and the decor is very on brand for a Thai spot. It seems like a casual spot that feels high end, if that makes any sense. Both on Friday and Saturday night, my parties were able to dine in without too much wait. It was a nice surprise, particularly on Saturday when we had a large party with no reservation. The staff was all really nice and patient with us both nights. I will say, Friday night, felt a bit like we got forgotten since water and food took a bit to come out/be refilled but we were deep in convo the whole time that we were mostly unbothered. Foodwise, I enjoyed that there was a vegan menu, esp since fish sauce is so tied to Thai cuisine. The vegan mushroom curry (I forgot the name) was excellent and so packed with flavor. The fried tofu was well fried but mostly flavorless without the sauce that it came with. Papaya salad (vegan) also hit all the right notes with flavor and surprised me since again, no fish sauce. The pad kee mow was a bit disappointing, I didn't get much heat (even though I ordered spicy, below Thai spicy) nor a nice fresh basil flavor. I did enjoy the Tom Yum on the Rocks though, it was sort of like a spiked spicy lemonade. Overall, I'd return for friends with food restrictions and know they'd have some pretty solid food options. Prices are ok for the area and portions and some dishes definitely stood out over others.

Yelp

Yelp
Delicious Thai food with a dedicated vegan menu. Every dish was flavorful, satisfying, and truly enjoyable. It's the perfect spot for a date, business lunch/dinner, or a casual family gathering. While the food arrived a bit later than expected, it wasn't an issue thanks to the great conversation around the table. I highly recommend this place for its wide variety of delicious dishes.

Yelp
I came here during Philly Pride, and was nice to easily get a table with a large amount of people. The portions are huge and can easily be split for two people. The chicken and pork belly pad thai hit the spot. Definitely will be back - they had a huge menu with other options I hope to try in the near future!

Yelp
Chatayee Thai is a pretty impressive Thai spot! I had heard from a friend that this was a good place for Thai food and I definitely agree with them. The interior of the restaurant is really grand and spacious. In addition, the servers were really attentive and the service was good! My friends and I all split the Thai Iced Tea, Chicken Pad See Ew, Chicken Satay, Firecracker, and Thung Tong. First of all, the Chicken Pad See Ew was beautifully plated. Not only was it aesthetic to look at, it also tasted just as good. The sauce on the noodles was delicious and the spice level we chose was perfect. They do bring out extra spices (chili oil, chili powder, etc.) if you want to up the spice level. The appetizers were also really yummy. As usual, the Chicken Satay was a hit, especially when it was dipped in peanut sauce. It also came with a cucumber salad that was refreshingly tart! The Firecracker is a minced chicken and shrimp wrapped in rice paper and lightly fried. It was really crispy and paired well with the sweet chili sauce. The Thung Tong was a new appetizer for me in a Thai restaurant, but it is basically a "crispy pouch" with pumpkin, potato, and taro roasted in a mild curry sauce inside. It definitely had a sweet taste from the pumpkin, but also a savory taste from the curry. I really enjoyed the combination of flavors! I think there is something for everyone at Chatayee Thai; they even have a vegan menu. Overall, I really like this place and I would definitely come back!

Yelp
We were craving Thai cuisine after a long day in Philly and Chatayee came through - thanks to the many Yelpers who highlight this restaurant. The food was delicious and presented beautifully, and staff were welcoming and attentive on a busy Friday evening. The restaurant itself is quiet and chic, perfect for date night, solo dining, gal pals, or a family meal. Happy we experienced it!

Yelp
A Magical Thai Wedding Celebration at Chatayee Thai If you're looking for a place that blends authentic Thai flavors, heartfelt hospitality, and unforgettable ambiance, Chatayee Thai is a hidden gem that exceeds every expectation--and then some. I recently had the immense honor of hosting a wedding reception here for my best friend from Thailand and her new husband, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. We celebrated on the King's Balcony, a semi-private space that felt intimate yet open enough to capture the energy of the restaurant below. It was the perfect perch to honor the newlyweds while surrounded by family, friends, and the aroma of sizzling lemongrass and rich curries. Chef Venus and her incredible team went above and beyond to create a dining experience that paid true homage to Thai tradition. From the first bite of the crispy spring rolls to the final spoonful of pudding, each dish was not only beautifully plated but bursting with layered, nuanced flavors that transported us straight to the streets of Bangkok. Favorites like Pad Thai, Massuman Curry, and Short Ribs were executed with authentic precision, while lesser-known regional specialties made us feel like we were being let in on a delicious secret. But what truly set Chatayee Thai apart was the atmosphere. The staff welcomed us with the kind of warmth you can't manufacture--genuine kindness, attentive service, and a deep respect for the importance of the occasion. They treated the couple like royalty and made every guest feel like family. This wasn't just a meal. It was a memory--infused with flavor, culture, and love. If you're ever planning a special gathering, or even just want to treat yourself to some of the best Thai food in town, Chatayee Thai is a place where hearts are fed as fully as bellies. Five stars doesn't feel like enough.

Yelp
My hands down favorite restaurant in the city. Their pad kee mao keeps me coming back. Their full separate vegan menu offers a fantastic stress free experience for a Thai spot. Staff are incredible and drinks are good too. Zero downsides to coming here.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Atmosphere was pleasant and you could talk without screaming. Server was very attentive and helpful.

Yelp
Came here on Valentine's Day. Caught the tail end of happy hour that's 3:30-5:30. They have a lot of good deals and this is a great spot for after work. They gave us a complimentary champagne drink for Valentine's Day that was super cute! We were seated at the front of the restaurant near the windows which was a perfect date night spot. They also have an upstairs which I could see perfect for a private birthday party or some other event. The waiter was very kind and helped us with our choices. We got the tofu satay and another appetizer with roti. We got tofu pad Thai and Chatayee Kang Kewan. The waiter asked us the spice level for everything which I appreciate. We went with medium which was perfect for me but I can get overwhelmed with spicy. I thought medium was spicy but not the spiciest that I have ever experienced. I think my favorites were the tofu satay and the pad thai. The tofu satay was a good deal, $7 on happy hour! The Kang Kewan was a curry dish so it came with rice, the broth was flavor was fresh but spicy and had lots of chunks of tofu and veggies. I like that the pad thai had a lot of different textures between the fresh shredded cabbage and the peanuts. If you like noodle dishes, this one was very good. Overall, I really liked this spot and I think the happy hour is really good. I will make an effort to come back to this place and would recommend it to anyone vegan or not!

Yelp
Let me tell you how this place speaks for itself without speaking. I was walking by and noticed the ceiling to floor windows and patrons dining right at tables next to the window. The place was packed and I knew the next time I was in the area I had to check it out. And that's just what I did. As soon as I walked in I felt warm and like I was in for a great experience. The ambiance is inviting and beautiful, I almost thought I was in an art museum. The lighting is just right. There's plenty of space and seating top to bottom. Friendly staff. And who doesn't appreciate a well kept restaurant, it was spotless including the rest room. The food is spot on. Best green curry in town. Best tom yum soup. Pad Thai spot on. One thing I've always appreciated with Thai food in general is that it's well seasoned. All the flavors came together well. I didn't feel like anything was missing from any of the dishes. Each dish hit the right notes. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes here really. Especially since you can request your level of spice. One thing to remember here is there's a 3% card processing fee applied when paying by card. Which some restaurants have started to do these days. If that doesn't bother you fine, if it does, make sure you bring plenty of cash to avoid the extra charge. Chatayee is a must visit and multiple follow up visits.

Yelp
Lovely space, excellent service, delicious food. What more could you ask? We walked in with no reservation on our first night in the city ( a Wednesday), with no wait.
google avatar

Diem A.

Yelp
Great food but very slow service. When we arrived there was about a 30 minute wait. We were seated, and it took a while to get our drink order and to take our order. The food also took a long time to come out, and we had to constantly flag servers down to ask for things. The decor in the restaurant is immaculate and very authentic. The massaman and roti, pad thai and pad kee mao were all really delicious! The Tom kha soup was ok, but I've had much better. The portions are huge. We all had leftovers. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Gracious and hospitable staff. Unbelievable food. Truly a privilege to have eaten here. Everything that came to the table was 10/10. Chef Venus is a treasure whose love and passion is undeniable. Yelp
We were treated royally despite a short staff situation! We were seated quickly but had to ask for our server. However, once they appeared everyone couldn't have been more gracious! We met the chef, who the restaurant is named for, and she treated us to an amazing new starter and then surprised us with a delicious dessert! This is a lovely place! Food was great and the staff from hosts, to servers, to chef were the best!! We had a fun & memorable evening! Highly recommend

Yelp
I'm not from Philly but every time I visit I have to come here. Their pork belly pad kee mao is my favorite. Their pad thai and pad see ew are amazing as well. Staff here is incredible! They are always welcoming and attentive. Their cocktails and mocktails are great too. If you have a chance, be sure to check this place out!

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and ambience! We enjoyed the Firecracker app, chicken satay and cucumber shrimp salad. The waitress was very accommodating, offering varying spice levels for each dish. We also appreciated the vegan menu.
google avatar

Yelp
First off, I love that they have a separate vegan menu that highlights the items from their regular menu that are or can be made vegan. Super handy. Second, this was one of the best Pad See Ew dishes I've ever had. It wasn't just flat noodles sautéed in soy sauce. There was a beautiful aroma of basil in the whole dish as well, and there were plenty of other vegetables other than a smattering of Chinese broccoli like most places do. Also a good serving of tofu that helped it be quite filling. The boyfriend also had some chicken satay skewers that he said were very tender and delicious. Most of the other entrees on the menu were significantly more expensive and not what I would even think about trying, but the basic noodle and rice dishes were relatively reasonable ($18). We came early in the evening on a Sunday, well before most people have dinner, so it was relatively quiet, and the servers were on top of it when it came to taking our orders, refilling our water, taking away dishes, and bringing the check. Very smooth service. Would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
Nice big space in Center City with large portions. It looked busy when I arrived around 7pm on a Monday, but I was quickly seated. I had: Spring rolls with shrimp ($8) - 4/5. Nice and crispy, with two (?) shrimps wrapped inside along with the veggies. I wish there were more than 3 though. Since when did we start paying almost $3 per egg roll?? Kang Pham Kai ($22) - 3/5. I was pretty disappointed by this dish, since it really didn't scratch my itch for curry. The curry was too soupy and didn't cling onto the chicken and veggies. The meat was also tough. The only good thing is that there was a lot of meat, so I got to have two meals out of this dish. I have major regrets not ordering the pad Thai, which came as a veritable HEAP. Service was good. Entrees took a while to come out. There's a surcharge added if you don't pay in cash, so watch out for that.
google avatar

Yelp
Wanted to check this place out based on their reviews and vegetarian selection. Got the papaya salad to start. It was just ok. My friend and I didn't even finish it, and by the end were eating it out of guilt. I got the green curry for my entree. Also really bland. Not bad, but just didn't have a lot going on flavor wise. The highlight was the mango sticky rice dessert, that was really bangin! Interior of the place was nice. Service was friendly. Prices were definitely high, esp for what you got. Overall this place was just alright. The meal was edible but not memorable and I probably wouldn't come back.

Susan B.

Yelp
Easily the best Thai food I've had! I'm so glad I decided to order takeout from here while in Philadelphia for a conference. My order was ready fast, and I appreciate that it's in sustainable packaging. What I saw of the restaurant looked nice too.

Yelp
Called twice , said hello and was hung up on!! Wow! Not the best customer service. Called again and no answer.

Yelp
My friends and I had reservations for dinner and arrived early. They were able to accommodate us and we immediately sat down. The place is beautiful inside with a grand piano and chandelier in the main area. We noticed how great the food smelled too so all good signs! My vegan friends were very happy there was a whole menu dedicated to vegan food. We all ordered a few items to try. For appetizers I ordered the fried shrimp and chicken rolls which was delicious. For entrees I got the shrimp pad see ew which was made perfectly. The sauce had a hint of white pepper which made it extra savory. There was huge fresh shrimp with the noodles. My vegan friends got two appetizers to share and then respected dishes. They also enjoyed their meals as well ! Very solid place for Thai food in center city!
google avatar

Alexa M.

Yelp
Really great Thai in center city! We split the first curry that was like a red curry - we got medium and was spicier than we expected. Deff recco mild if you're not used to spice. We also got the pad see ew with beef which was my favorite. One of the best in the city! They have a full bar which is fun. Large space and great attentive service
google avatar

Yelp
Great first visit to Chatayee Thai, and one of my favorite things about this location was the ambiance inside. Everything looked authentic- the lighting, artwork and decor, menu script, music, etc. Overall, service was a bit slow, but I think the quality of the food was excellent. Would recommend family style options. Our favorites were the Pad See Ew with chicken ($20), Pad Kra Prao (pork belly $20), and the Panang Si Krong On (Braised Short Rib, $38). Would definitely get the 3/4 spice level if you enjoy a good kick! Would come back again when I'm in the area!

Simer C.

Yelp
Generally, loved my experience here. Ambiance: (5/5) Great seating and there is a lot of space. Price: (4/5) Seems average for the area. Food: (4/5) I tired the Pad Thai, Red Curry, and Pad See Mao. I think the curry was my favorite. They had so many veggies and a lot of tender chicken. I got medium spicy for all the dishes and it was perfect. Not spicy at all, but very flavorful. I asked for spice on the side and they brought out 4 cans that carried in spice. That was a great touch. I haven't seen that in other restaurants. This wasn't the best Thai I've ever had, but I love the presentation and portions. Service: (3/5) Service was a bit slow.
google avatar

Joan L.

Yelp
The service is so friendly here. Returned to this restaurant for happy hour, and it has such great options, especially for vegetarians! They were out of one item that I ordered, but have so many food options.

Anju P.

Yelp
I am not sure what changed, this place was mostly empty on a busy Memorial Day weekend in Philly. I remember the last time when I visited 2 years ago it was almost packed. This time around the vibe was completely different. There weren't enough employees and our order took long to come, although there weren't many other customers. Food was ok ish with the roti still as delicious as before, but rest were average at best. They have a huge indoor seating space with large rest room area. It's sad to see the place empty which has such high potential. I really like their menu (the vegan options are so wow), and I hope they come back to their good days again.

Yelp
Happy hour was great. Very large spacious place with plenty of seating. Great service and good hangout spot. Very tasty, would come back to try more items for sure.

Yelp
We've walked by a bunch of times on Walnut Street and always mentioned it as being on our list, but never pulled the trigger. Really glad we did - I love it here now. The inside is honestly beautiful. Lots of decor, seems authentic, massive space with multiple levels and high ceilings. Great service. Young, energetic, friendly staff with knowledge of the menu. High quality food. I had the pad see ew which I really enjoyed. They had fun drinks as well, and lots of other options to come back and try food-wise as well. Awesome spot I can see becoming a go-to!

Yelp
Pretty decent Thai with nice presentation. Service was super slow with only one waitress working a large area. Nothing amazed or disappointed

Yelp
We were wandering around after the Christmas market and looking for somewhere to go with my vegan cousin that didn't have an hour long wait. We found this spot after a quick yelp search, excited because they have a whole vegan menu. The ambiance is adorable--it makes you feel transported to Thailand. Our server was super friendly and made great dinner recommendations. I got the Boom Bai Kai curry which was absolutely delicious except for the fact that I ordered mild and I'm pretty sure it was served Thai hot. But even with that I'd definitely still come back again!

Tasha D.

Yelp
Vegan pad Thai was delicious! Ambiance was very cute and the service was friendly and fast. Definitely recommend! They are open late.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food. We visited Chatayee Thai on a Saturday night, and it was about half full. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Thai artwork and sculptures that make it feel as if you have been transported to Thailand. Jazz music played over the speakers during our visit. I ordered the kickboxer to drink and the kang sing hol to eat. The food was served within 15 minutes of ordering and the drink was presented about 3 minutes after the food. The drink had an appealing blend of flavors. The food was scrumptious, and the portion size was perfect. Overall, I would highly recommend Chatayee Thai, and I know I will be back.

Heidi H.

Yelp
They accommodated us with a last minute reservation for 11 people. Lisa was our server. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant was very colorful and beautifully decorated. The food was stunning and delicious. We are from out of state and found them on-line. Everyone was pleased with the meal.

Dilan N.

Yelp
Ambiance and decor is nice. The service was good when the ball got started rolling. It took awhile to get our order. The pad Thai was okay, it lacked flavor. I had asked for medium spicy but it tended to not have much spice or flavor. It was on the dry side.

Yelp
We were in the area for an art exhibition and wanted to go somewhere nearby. We were the first customers to arrive in the late afternoon. The ambiance is good and very nicely decorated. The happy hour menu was available and we ordered the massaman curry with roti and spicy basil fried rice. The curry was good but we didn't like the rice. It lacked flavor and quality. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao from the vegan menu and we loved it. Service was good. The Thai iced tea was ok too. Overall, they do offer an extensive vegan menu which is nice.

Yelp
Lively and great restaurant, it's perfect for both a casual or date night. The employees were very kind as well and accommodating to different flavor profiles. They are able to sometimes suggest or offer you variations that are not directly stated on the menu. I believe I may have gone for the wrong curry. While it was still good and filling - I wasn't able to explain the flavor profile I was seeking in the moment. The Tom yum soup with tofu was delicious. The portions are good. You can tell the staff culture is also fun, everyone was so kind and jokey with each other. I would try this place again with something new.

Yelp
This place just won my vote for best happy hour in Philadelphia! I go to happy hour for the food since I'm not a big drinker and their happy hour food menu is extensive. Not only is the food here delicious, they also serve unique Thai food that you don't come across in most Thai restaurants here. We got: Mu Ping (5/5) Tod Mun Puk (5/5). Highly recommend! Massaman & Roti (5/5) ThungTong (4.5/5) Mee Krob (4/5) Everything was so delicious and flavorful. My favorite dish was the Tod Mun Puk which is an egg plant and red curry based fried cake. It was so crispy on the outside, yet soft and bursting with flavor once you take your bite - topped with some refresh pickle for that afterwards refreshing crunch. I can easily eat 5 pieces of these. The skewers were delicious, strong charcoal taste. Massaman curry was amazing and we actually dipped the fried noodles from Mee Krob with the curry which turned out to be a great pairing. The ThungTong was most exciting to eat due to its cute little pouch shape. The whole item is edible including the vegetable used to tie the dumpling. It was delicious and had a very earthy taste - taro, pumpkin, potato ... Their happy our ends at 5:30pm during the weekdays. If you like Thai food and happy hour, this is the place you don't want to miss! Tip: you can call them to make reservations even during happy hour time

Yelp
Whenever I crave Thai food in Center City, Chatayee Thai instantly comes to mind! The portions are huge and perfect for sharing with friends so you can get a taste of multiple dishes. Also vegan/vegetarian friendly! I personally believe the quality of a Thai restaurant can be judged by their Pad Thai, and Chatayee did not disappoint at all. Their Pad Thai is soo flavorful, and combined with the essential lime squeeze, it is easily the best one I've had in Center City. A must-get as an appetizer is their massaman and roti. The roti was so hot, buttery, and flaky and the perfect medium for the super savory and delicious massaman that had lots of veggies and potatoes. Their special Boom Bai Kai curry and Kang Dang curry are both delicious and feature chicken with a bunch of vegetables. My personal favorite was the Kang Dang curry, which is a red curry with bamboo, string beans, carrots, bell peppers, and basil (an essential). Both are served with a fresh bowl of fluffy white rice. I have also tried their Pad See Ew, which I often avoid at Thai restaurants because it is usually always cooked super salty. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The overall ambiance/vibes of the restaurant are really nice. The workers there are also super nice. I celebrated my birthday here, and they were really nice in letting me bring my cake and keeping it in the fridge for me. They also surprised me by bringing it out all lit up, so that was super sweet. Of note, I have noticed the service can be a little slow. However, this could be because I often go at dinnertime when the restaurant is a lot busier.
