Who Was Chef Marie-Antoine Carême, the Subject of a New Apple TV+ Series? | Eater

"A grand residence purchased to entertain diplomatic guests, where the apprentice accompanied a powerful patron and worked under that patron's chef; this was a key setting for him to transition from pastry into the savory side of the kitchen and to participate in the extravagant, high-level entertaining of early 19th-century diplomacy." - Daniela Galarza

There weren't any crowds. The gardens don't give a good impression as they look unkempt. The house itself on the inside needs renovation but obviously it's an expensive thing. The roof appears to be new and that is an very expensive thing to do. However I won't be grudge them the entrance high entrance fee as I hope the money goes to restoration work.

Beautiful well furnished and preserved castle, it was great visiting over the holidays, every room had an xmas tree. There was also a Harry Potter Lego expo on which turned out to be more interesting than expected.

The building is stunning, the gardens not so. Looking very tired and unkempt they could do with a lot of work, just to tidy them up. The house inside also looking a bit shabby and probably needs millions of euros spending on it. Nice to wander round and imagine how it must have once looked. All in all a disappointing visit.

A great Chateau steeped in history. I enjoyed the self guided tour which was full of information. A pity that the cafe was very lacking and awful machine prepared voffee instead of nice cafe au last

This was our first visit and it was a great experience. The chateau was stunning the gardens were lovely and the grounds were interesting. Also there was a small food and drinks shack and plenty of seating in the shade.

Lovely place to visit. There are a lot of things to see there. You can still see how a lot of the things were used before. Like the cave where they used to store ice to keep things cool in the summer. On the inside, there was lots of the original furniture. But you could also see clear signs of long-term lack of maintaince. But over a place, you must visit. The staff was friendly and spoke English. And there was an audio tour available in several languages.

Nice old chateau with interesting history. Audio guide & information in several languages. Ornamental gardens and small animal farm. Picnic area but no cafe available, so bring your own food.

Very attractive chateau and gardens the interior was exquisite the gardens where expansive , I spent 2 1/2 hours at the Chateau . There is also a small mobile cafe once you pass through the reception serving refreshments coffee, ice cream, crepes and other drinks. Also there is a restaurant in the Orangerie. I had visited Château de Montpoupon previously and received a reduced rate at Chateau Valencay 11.50€ instead of 14.50€ which was great. Staff were really friendly and there is a QR code to scan that gives you info of the Chateau with audio as you walk around inside. Well worth a visit. Parking in street nearby.

Yelp
The map of the grounds are a bit difficult to follow and it seemed like many parts of the chat and grounds were under renovation but we enjoyed what we saw The gardens were mostly grass but the small farm housed at least 3 peacocks, 4 donkeys, goats & ducks The directories located on the grounds only showed the immediate vicinity and not the whole map - so don't misplace your provided paper copy The offer free audio guides which is a nice touch - we did not partake however since most of the plaques were also in English Very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours....our visit came in right at the 2 hour mark

Yelp
Beautiful château with free audio tour. At the parc, there was an herb garden, animals, a playground and a labyrinth where you could only progress by solving clues at gates, which was great fun for us. We happened upon a guided tour during our visit which greatly enhanced our knowledge of the château. I only wish the older wing would have been open, even unfurnished. It was slightly more expensive than other châteaux see have visited and we got the impression that the restaurant was not somewhere we should bring our 3 year old. The playground however was a nice addition.
