"Bryant 'Chef Baul' Williams, who once served as a private chef for Atlanta hip-hop trio Migos, opened soul food restaurant Chef’d Up last summer in the Highland Walk Apartments space. The restaurant closed earlier this year amid a pandemic-related rental dispute with Perennial Properties, the owner of Highland Walk Apartments." - Beth McKibben

"Bryant “Chef Baul” Williams is opening a soul food kitchen and bar named Chef’d Up in the Old Fourth Ward, taking over the space previously occupied by The Barrelhouse. With an ambition to bring a new kind of food to the community, Williams plans to renovate the interior and exterior of the building, and offer a menu reflecting his world travels and vegetarian lifestyle, featuring dishes like pork chop lollipops, ribeye steak, and stuffed lobster tail as well as vegetarian options. The venue will also include a full bar serving cocktails. Williams has a history of culinary entrepreneurship, utilizing Instagram to sell his dishes, and has cooked for celebrities and sports stars. Chef’d Up aims to serve lunch, brunch, and dinner with its operational hours yet to be determined." - Mike Jordan

This is the fifth restaurant to inhabit this space since we have lived in Old Fourth Ward. Dishes were pretty good and prices reasonable. My measure is always whether I can cook better than this at home... In this case, I felt that my chicken and broccoli pasta met that criteria. It was tasty and filling. Granted, we were there really soon after they opened and there are the usual new restaurant kinks like forgetting strawberries in the salad, long waits etc. But our biggest issue was cocktails. They tasted like they were from mixes which I don't think will stand given the nearby competition.

Absolutely loved this restaurant and would definitely come again if I'm ever back in Atlanta. Everything we got was seasoned to perfection! I highly recommend the shrimp and grits. Howeve, I had the same expectations for the mac and cheese as it is the South, but it wasn't as cheesy, creamy and flavorful as I expected. They put a lot of thought and decor into this placeand it is simply stunning. The staff and chef were super friendly and welcoming too.

I finally made it to the restaurant and was so excited until I ordered food. For our appetizer we ordered spinach with crab meat which was good but it took 20 minutes to come out. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits which were very salty to the point that she couldn’t eat more than two bites. My other friend ordered the wings and they were salty as well. We ordered the mini sliders which came 30 minutes after our entrees like it was meant, but they were burnt and cold. Ultimately, the food took forever to arrive and was a huge disappointment. To top everything off there were only 4 tables occupied. The highlights were that the music was bomb and the waitress was great. At the end of the meal the manager came and asked how our meal was and when we complained he sent our waitress to our table but never came back to follow up or even offered to comp our meals. They said it’s their soft opening and still trying to figure things out so I hope this feedback help with that process.

When I tell you our overall experience here was great, that’s an understatement. First let’s start with the live DJ playing a mix of old school and new school classics. The host and hostesses were nice, prompt and funny. I was there for a birthday brunch and everyone enjoyed the food. From the shrimp and grits to the lobster and waffles, everyone talked about how good it was. I’m sure I’ll be eating here at least once a month. Thanks Chef!!!

Very nice decor and vibe at the restaurant. Went on a Saturday afternoon, not busy. Food came out fast. Ordered the chicken and broccoli and my husband the lamb chops. Both were delicious. Lamb chops plentiful and big bowl for the pasta. The price may throw people off but I know about business that you're paying for more than food. Definitely would go again and try brunch.

Visiting from NC so stopped by for a Dinner Date, had the Lamb Lollipops which was my first time trying lamb and it was great. I liked the sauce that topped it. Just wish they had a drink menu. But overall i enjoyed my visit, i would return.

We went here for brunch. This place is definitely overpriced. I had the chicken and waffles. It's priced at $15. For that, you only get two average-sized chicken tenders and one waffle, cut into four pieces (to make it look like it's more than it is). The chicken was pretty good. But honestly, it wasn't amazing. The waffle was a basic waffle. It is definitely not worth $15. Others at the table were in agreement that portion sizes were too small for the prices. Also, the service wasn't the greatest. Our server didn't come back to check on us for at least a good 20 minutes.
