Chef's Choice Seafood Restaurant

If I could give this place more than five stars, I would! Best Chinese food that we've had in Vancouver. We visited for dinner and found the standard of the food and the service to be outstanding. We tried the salted egg lobster with rice cakes, fish with scallion sauce, ribs with sweet plum sauce, four season beans, and roasted chicken with sticky rice (this last one is quite a unique dish and was very well executed). For dessert we enjoyed the longevity buns that had red bean paste inside. Overall the food was super high quality, beautiful to look at, and well aligned with the fine dining level of this place. We learned from the team that they are also well known for their dim sum, and for dinners, their beef dishes are also delicious. Service was really amazing with all the staff being extremely attentive, and friendly--they helped to serve the dishes throughout the meal, frequently change plates and ensured our glasses always had tea or water. This is a great venue for hosting friends, family, colleagues for any type of celebration or work events alike. The place is well lit, nice decor, clean bathrooms. You can park in the lot behind the restaurant and if you give them your parking spot number and license plate number the restaurant will take care of the parking fee. Highly recommend!

Went there for company event and didn't know about this place being apparently on the Michelin Guide. Food was pretty good and portions were enough for everyone. The only thing I felt was a bit disappointing was how tough the abalone was. Nonetheless, overall experience would put it at a standard 5. Service was exceptional and servers were extremely proactive and courteous. A high 5 for this establishment. Atmosphere was great with the downside that individual who are doing other private events can also be heard lacking the conversation ambience. Washrooms extremely well maintained and clean. A high 4. This place is recommended for parties 4 or higher so you can order more variety to share.

The special dinner event was to celebrate a friend's 75th birthday. It was our very first visit to this dining place in Vancouver. What was particularly evident is the staff's hospitality and willingness to make our stay as pleasant as possible. A special video needed to be viewed on a wide screen TV during the entire evening and they helped set it all up to the delight of the celebrant and guests. When the food was served, we can tell how meticulously it was prepared and presented. Most of the dishes were delightful and servings were generous. The staff knew when to take and replace the individual plates. I wish I could have given all a 10 out of 10 rating but it would be misleading. After all, having been in many countries experiencing delectable and exotic culinary creations, I always attempt to be truthful and objective. That being said, this Vancouver dining place ranks in the top 15% of places we have visited throughout the world. It was a very delightful evening.

The people here really make the experience special, dim sum served with genuine enthusiasm. We did have a small hiccup with one uncooked dish, but the creative twists on classic flavors were delightful. Looking forward to coming back to try dinner.

Came on a quiet day and received attentive and friendly service. We originally wanted to order another chicken dish but were encouraged to try the house special and correctly so-it was truly excellent. Complimentary mango dessert sealed the deal. The seafood clay pot was well flavored and generous

They just opened on April 15th so everything still quite new. The dim sum ordered all tasted super delicious, very flavourful and hot! The dish with eggplant and beef was cooked to perfection. The dessert which is rolled water chestnut jelly with almonds was by far the best. It was a bit pricey tbh, but good food is always worth it. They also offer individual rooms for private functions - one big room with karaoke and indoor golfing. Cost would be 1.5K starting point (including food). For reservation enquires, please speak to Ivy! Overall it was a most pleasant experience.

Upscale dim sum restaurant with some unique dishes to compliment the classics. Soup dumpling is the highlight and tea quality is very good. If you manage to finish your meal and leave before noon, they discount 10% and tea is complementary.

The season changed for the menu! It's now autumn - so no soup dumpling... Geoduck congee had a good helping of the geoduck, no complaints there. The spare ribs had WAY too much garlic, and the bean curd dumpling meat had a bit of weird texture, not quite the firmness. Other than that, service was super excellent, the bathrooms were very clean and efficient.

We came on friends' recommendation. The steamed cake and shrimp toast were on point. We didn't order the pineapple sweet and sour pork, nah! The soup dumplings were made the old traditional way. Not many places do it because it takes work. The shiu mai was very good. We won't miss the sliced liver on top, too tough. Service was excellent.

Came here for because we saw that they were Michelin rated for their truffle chicken dish. Service - honestly service wasn't that friendly to us. We came on a Friday afternoon, paid for parking and went in. It wasn't very busy but there were a few occupied tables (all Chinese speaking families). We aren't Chinese and we felt the difference in service. They didn't pour the tea for us like they did for the other seated tables (even though we looked confused because they lit a candle and there were 3 pots on our table) our server also made us feel like we were a burden to serve and also was hard to get their attention in general. Food: I actually think the food would have been a nice experience minus the service but that chicken dish was so gross. + Michelin black truffle chicken dish - hearty with truffle which we love, but we werent aware that this dish came ice cold. The meat was rubbery and hard to eat + soy milk - very tasty! We got 2 ordered because we thought they were cups, turns out they were bowl lol definitely shareable for two people + siu mai - our favorite item here + vinegar cucumbers - also very solid Overall, if the service was a little friendlier we would have given a better rating but this really spoiled the mood for us at lunch and on top of that my husband ended up getting a takeout box for the chicken we didn't eat and we just carried it around everywhere Lol...

A unique thing that I notice about this place is they give you three pots. One for hot water, tea, and a tea warmer pot. It gives a bougie vibe but it's pretty cool. First time here and tried these items: - 懷舊灌湯餃 Minced pork and seafood soup dumpling - I never knew Hong Kong style soup dumplings exists until coming here! It was absolutely delicious! I loved how the skin on the dumpling was so thin and it was filled was such flavorful and delicious soup! It's a bit pricy but it was worth it. - 黑松露豚肉燒賣Black truffle Iberico pork dumplings - 香麻蝦多士Deep-fried shrimp paste and sesame on toast - This taste like an elevated fried shrimp dumpling. - 懷舊千層糕Steamed sweet salty egg paste layered cake - I never grew up eating this so I wasn't able to appreciate this as much. - 翡翠流沙包 Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Buns - This one might be the best I've ever had! - 黑松露撈雞（半隻）Marinated chicken w/ black truffle sauce - OMG this chicken was sooooooooo freaking food! It's a cold dish but it was so flavorful! - 乾炒手切肥牛河Stir-fried noodles w/ fatty beef - love how it's not overly oily and big chunks of meat! There are so many things on my menu that I wanna try next time. It is best to come with a bunch of friends to try. The servers are also pretty attentive here and you can make reservation online. They have a parking lot underneath and the spots are small and tight. Not the best parking area but it's free! No

This restaurant was recommended from a friend who lives in Vancouver and it did not disappoint! I love dim sum and if you do too and you're in Vancouver, I'd recommend this place. I think it used to be a Michelin star restaurant, but I couldn't find it on the Michelin app so idk. It did seem kind of upscale (and more expensive) than other places over been to. We walked in close to opening time around 11am. They asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. But maybe since there were only two of us, they sat us quickly at a 2-top side table. The restaurant did end up filling up towards the time we left after eating. They offer tea for $2 per person. It was an interesting set up for the tea. They had like 3 vessels for hot water, tea and more tea. It was a little confusing, but they came by and helped when our pot was close to empty. The ordering process is rather simple. They have a print out of the menu and you indicate how many orders of each item you'd like. They had a variety of dim sum dishes, both steamed and fried, dessert items, congee, rice and noodle dishes, and vegetables. We ordered quite a lot because we were hungry. The shrimp toast was shrimp paste spread atop a piece of bread, then coated with sesame seeds and deep fried. It came with a side squirt of mayo. It was pretty filling. We ordered the shrimp dumplings (ha gao) and pork and shrimp siu mai. The pork and shrimp siu mai was my favorite. There were large pieces of shrimp in the siu mai and it was topped with a bit of truffle. We also got the rice rolls in sauce haha it was kind of simple even though the peanut sauce that it came with was really good. I would definitely come back to try other things. Hopefully we come with a bigger group next time too so I can try more items. It seemed like the taro puffs with a little swan detail thing were popular among other tables. Towards the end of our meal, the tea was super bitter and hard to drink. The service was good, but could have been more refined. I guess when you sit at a table in a Chinese restaurant and your place has two sets of chopsticks, you're expecting a certain kind of service. Instead, we had a dried piece of rice on the table cloth and waiters just kind of throwing dishes on our table that we had ordered without saying anything. I'd still come back for dimsum though!

I made a reservation on a Sunday for a party of 2 as I was concerned there would be a significant wait, but honestly there were plenty of tables when I arrived around 12PM. It was nice though to be able to make a reservation for any party size via their website, which is pretty rare for dim sum restaurants. Overall, I would say this place is nice, maybe a little pricier than the other options in Vancouver area. You place your order and they bring everything fresh to your table, so the textures of everything are on point when it arrives at your table. Overall, the quality of the food is pretty good, but it wasn't the best dim sum I've ever had. Ambiance wise, it was pretty calm and classy for a dim sum restaurant, the crowd was a bit on the older side and I found plenty of street parking available the street over. Highlights: - Har Gow (5/5): Okay, the one item that did blow my socks off was this one. The BEST har gow I've ever had in my life. The wrapper was thin and slightly bouncy, not grainy at all. Fresh, sweet shrimp inside cooked perfectly. I'd show up and just order 4 of these. - Shrimp Toast (4.25/5): Super fun dish with a fantastic fry - crunchy toast with tender shrimp and it didn't feel greasy at all. The sesame across the top might be a bit much, but I personally love the flavor, so I didn't mind. Skip: - Salted Egg Yolk Custard Buns (1/5): I don't know why they did this one so poorly, but I actually couldn't eat more than a bite of this. The custard was just completely off, chunky and too salty.

Michelin level Chinese food and service is what you will experience at this restaurant. We're Asian tourists from the Bay Area, so we know quality Chinese food. We ordered our usual favorites: ginger/green onion crab, steamed fish and pea sprouts. They displayed the seafoods before being butchered, and gave some commentary of the origins of the seafoods. Like the Marble Goby is a seasonal fish and caught at Toronto. The crab was fresh and sweet. The Marble Goby, was something I never experienced. Light, refreshing, and smooth texture. It was then cooked on top of steamed eggs, which absorbs the fish oils. The atmosphere was clean and fancy. The attention to detail, such as using tea lights to keep the tea warm and three separate pots to prevent the tea from over-seeping, are nice touches. The manager (Anthony), staff were personable and know their menu very well. I highly recommend and to come back for their seasonal menus. PS: Call ahead. And there's FREE parking at the bottom floor.

The best seafood our group had over our five day visit in Vancouver! The crab and fish were tender and flavorful - really loved how the fish was steamed with egg and the crab with ginger. So appreciative of how the manager Anthony and staff talked us through our final picks for our main seafood entrees. Vegetables, tea, rice, desserts (not too sweet, coconut mochi very tasty) done well. Everyone was very full and happy by end of dinner. The service was very attentive from the manager Anthony's recommendations to the how quick staff were with ensuring our table - and tables and guests all over the floor - had everything they need. The inside decor was beautifully lit and even the window dividers for each table gave a sense of privacy without feeling claustrophobic to table neighbors. There is free parking in a private lot underneath restaurant. We will be returning!!

Service was fantastic for a Chinese restaurant. All the servers were attentive. Love the pot with warmer and filter to keep tea leaves strained. Food was on point. Crisp distinct flavors. Tasty. Ambiance was very nice and updated. Still have the dividers between tables but liked it. Parking underground enter through back or street parking.

We came here for lunch to try their "traditional old style" dim sum that we had during our childhood days in HK. Impark parking is $7+/hr w tax so do allow a couple of hours for a leisurely lunch. We had been here for dinner before and I liked the grilled bbq pork +chicken liver, so we ordered it again. It's quite good if only the piece of fatty pork can be marinated until it's transparent thus melting in your mouth instead having to chew quite a bit--then it's perfect! As for dim sum, we ordered Shrimp cilantro dumpling --- flavour/texture very good. Mix mushroom w fish maw---clean taste, need to add salt to bring out some flavour. Liver pork dumpling--good pork flavour w slices of liver on top, nicely executed. Deep fried shrimp toast-- NOT deep fried maybe 'air fried' to please patrons that prefer no grease. If chef only uses the flavorless "frozen FARMED white BC shrimps", chef has to give it some flavor at least deep fry it or add minced pork fat like how we do it the traditional way Steamed Big dumpling-- what a mess to eat. This is not 小籠包 style with so much liquid inside with a big shrimp inside? Inside ingredients should be chopped pork, chopped shiitake, shredded crabmeat all wrapped up in a cornstarch slurry to hold the filling so you can eat it just w a spoon and not so much soup pouring into the bowl. This is not 古法, you are doing it the new way like all the rest of other dim sum restaurants! A shame. The ambiance is fairly quiet for a dim sum place and the decor is pleasing to the eye. One doesn't have to raise one's voice to talk. The prices are reasonable when compared to restaurants in Richmond esp now w promo of 12% off. Tea pp is $2 And they use good enough tea leaves. One day soon we will go to try the roasted whole chicken with sticky rice for dinner if I can get my husband to take the hour plus drive into Vancouver Forgot to take pics again.....

Went here for dim sum and we ordered the following: * Truffle siu mai 9/10 * Har gow 9/10 * Wonton Soup was good (8/10) * Special Dungeness crab cooked with scallions and gingers with noodles (6/10) * Cuttlefish (5/10) The restaurant itself was very elegant and servers very professional. All the food were definitely quality and fresh with exception of maybe the Dungeness crab. Personally had too high expectations for the crab and it sadly disappointed. It looked very pretty but was messy to eat and the flavor was just not there. Do note, this restaurant is a little more pricey than other dim sum places but is because of the quality. Favorite things were the truffle siu mai, plump and great flavor. The har gow was also very good but it's a classic. I did not like the cuttle fish as much, very bland and clean but lacked flavor. Portions were small and prices were high and I expected that coming in but even then I think it could have been a bit better.

Fried Rice Noodle Deep Fried Sticky Rice Topped with Chicken Fish Roe & Pork Dumplings Beef Ball with Bean Curd Sheet Deep-Fried Shrimp Toast Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Buns Poached Choy Sum with Garlic Baked Egg Custard Tarts Chef's Choice Chinese Cuisine is a Michelin Guide recommended restaurant, and while I don't agree with every recommendation that's put out by the Michelin Guide, I think this is one recommendation I do agree with.  Everything was so tasty, and I loved the unique offerings at this restaurant that I havn't seen at other restaurants. You can't travel to Vancouver without ordering some dim sum, right? During the last full day of my Vancouver trip, I came here to eat with a party of 7 people. We picked this place because it was Michelin recommended, so we thought it would be really good here. This restaurant is known for their old school Cantonese dim sum and traditional seafood cooking technique. I feel like the biggest problem with eating dim sum is that people tend to over order food. With our group, we ended up ordering way too much food! Our eyes were hungrier than our stomachs! Some highlights: -They gave us a pitcher of hot water, a white tea pot, and a clear tea pot which has a small fire to keep the tea hot. -They gave use two sets of chopsticks: one for personal use and the other for communal use! This is perfect for people who don't like to double dip haha. -Black truffle pork dumplings - I'm not a fan of siu mai, but the black truffle was definitely a game changer for me! -Dried scallop & radish cake - This was very smooth. I'm used to eating pan fried radish cake for dim sum. -Pan-fried minced pork & sticky rice cake - I love sticky rice, but I've never see this pan fried at a dim sum place. This almost reminded me of pan frying bánh tét (Vietnamese sticky rice cake), which is how I like to eat them. -Chinese donut stuffed with shrimp toast - I've had Chinese donut wrapped with rice rolls, but stuffed shrimp?? This is next level! I approve! -Sesame balls w/ gold edible toppings - This dessert item was so delicious! -Fried rice w/ dried scallops & egg white - This is one of my favorite fried rice of all time. -Rice cake w/ shredded pork & soy bean - I always love sticky rice cakes. When the food arrived, we were really confused because we're not used to seeing dim sum being cooked and made in this style. Dim sum looks very different in California, so we thought that this wasn't traditional. After sampling everything on the table, we were super context with our food choices. Since we ended up ordering too much food, we had to pack the rest to go and eat it for dinner. We really enjoyed the dim sum here! I would highly recommend this place!

Wow wow wow! Clearly the chef is a master old school Cantonese chef with expert experience. Their nostalgic classic dishes were done with quality ingredients and culinary finesse, especially their signature stuffed crispy chicken. Two thumbs up!

Recently, I made reservations for dinner at this restaurant. You can park at the Impark Parking lot behind the restaurant and the restaurant will refund you for 2 hours of parking. The restaurant looked modern and clean. They also had dividers between the tables due to Covid which was nice. Including us, there were only five tables occupied. We pre-ordered half of the house special fried sticky rice chicken a day in advance. Besides the chicken, we ordered the stir fried pea pods and the deep fried rock cod w/sweet and sour sauce(w/o the pine nuts). We waited for over 45 minutes and we still didn't get a single dish served. We asked the waiter on the status and they said they were still cooking them. The restaurant wasn't that busy so we didn't understand why it took so long, especially the stir fried pea pod dish. The first dish to arrive after 50 minutes was the fried sticky rice chicken. The crispy chicken looked a bit pale. I was expecting the chicken to be a dark golden brown color. The chicken tasted good but I wish the sticky rice was a bit more flavorful. After an hour passed by, we still didn't get the other two dishes so we again asked about the vegetable and fish dishes. The stir fried pea pods finally came after we asked for a third time. We again asked about our fish dish and after an hour and 20 minutes, they said that the fish will take over 45 minutes to defrost. We were totally furious. Why didn't they tell us in the first place when we initially ordered? We were so upset that we just paid and left. There was not a single 'Sorry' from any of the waitstaff. I had high hopes for this restaurant but I am definitely not coming back.

I've never tried dim sum but always wanted to, so some awesome Yelpers suggested we get together and do dim sum together (thanks Sun and Caroline!). What better way to get introduced to dim sum than with some dim sum veterans, right?! All I knew about this type of dining is what I've seen in movies, where ladies wheel around carts piled high with all sorts of sampler plates of foods I'm unfamiliar with, filling out paper order sheets with each tables' orders, in a crowded and cramped restaurant full of animated groups seated around large, circular tables. That's all I've seen. And this place was nothing at all like that. Not AT ALL. The restaurant interior was quite lovely, with a floral vine-like glass lighting fixture covering the expanse of ceiling, and an illuminated leaf display covering the length of wall on one side. The front wall is essentially a stretch of windows overlooking Broadway. Due to all the street construction, the blinds on all the windows were closed, but I'd imagine, on a normal day when the construction is done, there'd be a lot of natural light streaming in from said windows. There are lucite wall barriers between the tables (nice touch - although I doubt they really do anything to prevent the spread of the virus). And the whole place is clean. Super clean. The whole ambiance was lovely. The pot of jasmine tea was lovely, kept warm on our table by way of a tea light under the teapot, and there was a strainer inside the pot to prevent the tea leaves from seeping into our cups. Nice touch. We ordered 6 dishes, all fairly basic (mostly, I presume, to accommodate me): shrimp dumplings, shrimp and cilantro dumplings, pork spareribs with garlic, steamed barbecue pork buns, daikon with pork, and shrimp stuffed eggplant. These dishes were brought to our table by our server. There were no carts wheeled around the room. Everything was delicious. Every dish was great. My dining partners both noted how minimal the MSG additives were in the food here. They both commented that usually there is a lot of MSG in these dishes, and they were surprised - and pleased - that this restaurant didn't use it (or used it super sparingly). So my dining partners told me that this place's prices were higher than most other dim sum places and the food portions, smaller. (I have nothing to compare them to). I asked if the quality of food here was higher than all the other places and they said yes, it is. IMO I'd rather have smaller portions and pay an extra 1-2 dollars per plate but to have higher quality. That's just me. FYI there is a free parking lot for this restaurant immediately below the building. This lot is accessible from W. 8th Avenue, immediately behind the place. (There are no signs on the street indicating the parking lot and it's easy to drive by it). The one downside regards payment policy: they won't take debit or credit card payment if your total bill is below $25. So be sure to bring cash if you don't think you'll ordering a minimum of $25 worth of food. (We were all rather surprised by this. Personally, I don't like surprises, so I think they should make this clear on their website or menus). All in all, we all thought this was a great place and I would definitely return.

We came here for dim sum on a Saturday. Reservations were allowed so we did not have to wait for a table. It did start to get filled up after 12pm. It is not a big place with two rows of tables, and the tables are separated with clear dividers. Private rooms are available at the back. Nice decor with beautiful lightings and table setting. This is not your typical old school dim sum Chinese restaurant. The tea is served with three pots. That's right. Three! You get a flask of hot water, a regular ceramic teapot and a glass teapot which would be placed on a warmer with tea light underneath it to keep it hot. It is quite a ritual to top up your teapot. Pour the hot water into the ceramic teapot where the tea leaves are. Then pour that into the glass teapot before pouring that into your cups. There are also two sets of chopsticks for everyone. One is for personal use and the other one is the serving or common chopsticks. I highly appreciate this as I find this is more hygienic. And the kicker is the wait staff actually changed our plates during our meal without any of us asking. You usually only get such service in high end or better restaurants or at wedding banquets. We decided to try six dishes and they were pretty tasty. The portion was on the smaller side, not the typical North American size but more in line with the servings you get in Asia. The dishes were more refined and delicate with not too doughy buns or thick skins for the dumplings. I wish the radish cake was pan fried and not steamed though that could be healthier? My favorite dish would be the pan fried eggplant and tofu stuffed with shrimp paste. They were crispy on the outside but still soft inside. Prices were $8+ each for the dim sum items. There is a current promo for Peking duck. For $188 you get 7 courses meant for 6 people. I will like to try that someday. The only drawback is the payment. Credit card payment is only allowed with min $25. That makes it hard to spilt the bill if you do not have cash on hand. So bring cash or order a lot! We were caught by surprise. I wish there was a note on the menu or table or somewhere prominent within the restaurant so we could make informed decisions on our food order or bring more cash. I deduct a star because of this. Another plus is free parking in the basement. Enter by the alley behind the restaurant.

This restaurant is located west of Cambie along Broadway Street in midst of construction. One of the newer establishments when it comes to dim sum. Other Yelpers wanted to try dim sum in a centrally located place-here we are. Interesting place with playful lighting and glass partitions between tables. Not too many tables but there is a VIP room if you want to book for special occasions. Looks to be there is a bar for more premium alcoholic beverages?!? The dishes we ordered were typical sizes but seem to be 20% more costly than average dim sum at other restaurants. Don't know why that is perhaps of the cost to finance the new venue? I would say it is decent but not at the sweet spot of my "must try recommendations". Ok. So so. Make sure your minimum order is 25$ per person if you choose to use credit card or debit.

The restaurant reminds of the fancier family restaurants in Hong Kong. We had dinner here and I thought all the dishes we ordered were delicious. We started off with a soup and then ordered a variety of family style dishes. You can see some of what we ordered in my accompanying pictures. The most unique item we ordered was the chicken with truffle oil sauce. You order your items on a tablet here. They had a pretty extensive menu and a lot of things sounded good, so it was hard to choose! Since it's more family style dishes, definitely go with more people so you can order more dishes.

We went there for our family reunion dinner tonight. We ordered quite a lot of food for two adult tables, one young second generation table and one third generation table. The char siu is very good; so is the deep fried prawn toast. I also like their satay beef with Gai lan, the fish pot (火肉豆腐焖龙躉尾). I thought the chicken stuffed with sweet rice is just so so although it's supposed to be their award winning dish. The place is small but quite cozy and not very noisy. I'd say this is a place worthy of trying.

Dim sum review They were quite busy on a weekday for lunch The area is under construction at the moment but there is sidewalk access to the restaurant on Broadway The restaurant is bright inside and pretty clean To keep the tea warm, each table has a tea light tea warmer. Each table also has a teapot with a strainer to remove the tea leaves. This is a nice touch so we don't keep getting tea leaves after each sip of tea. We ordered: (for 3 people to share) - steamed pork liver dumplings - steamed shrimp and cilantro dumplings - crispy pork knuckles - chicken feet with pickled pepper - deep fried salad roll The crispy knuckles were pretty tasty but there was still quite a bit of hair attached to each piece of knuckles The chicken feet was cut into smaller pieces and had really good tangy flavor I was expecting the pork liver dumplings to have liver in the dumplings but the liver slices were only on the side. This place is apparently how the OG places in HK made their dim sum (according to my mom). I liked it a lot because their dim sum is def a bit more unique than the average fare. The seafood dumpling (goon tong gao), which is normally served in soup, was served steamed - I actually really liked the flavors and everything inside the delicate skin was fresh. The prawn toast and the pan fried sticky rice are a must try!! A little oily, but served hot and crispy. I also recommend the thousand tier cake, made more in the old school style. The shrimp dumpling is ok, it's served more with the mixed shrimp paste. Overall good spot to try!

I recently visited this restaurant and was extremely disappointed with both the quality of the food and the pricing. The menu is significantly overpriced given the standard of the dishes served. The sweet and sour pork lacked freshness and tasted like something hastily reheated in a microwave. The Peking duck, a dish that should be succulent and flavorful, was dry and underwhelming. The peking duck stir fry with bean sprouts was poorly executed and unpalatable. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Chef choice restaurant is located on West Broadway and near Oak Street. This Chinese restaurant service pretty decent and food are good. My mom and I went there for dim sum lunch. All the dim sums we ordered taste good except for stir fried beef with rice noodles in satay sauce. Price range just in average like Richmond restaurants.

Came here for dinner tonight as part of Chinese New Year's celebration. The service is amazing! The food is delicious. We had lobster atop crispy noodles. The lobster was very fresh and meaty. Flavour was perfectly delivered. We also had the fried taro cube with pork ribs. It was very well seasoned. I would normally eat it with rice however the noodles from the lobster filled me up. After dinner, we had red bean soup. The tangerine peel in this dessert is of a different quality and thus our red bean soup is not your ordinary but superior quality. We also have the traditional thousand layer cake. A beautiful dessert to end the night with. Parking is street but super affordable and as well complimentary parking in the back but with limited spaces.

Rude. Came in the front door not knowing a reservation was needed (although it looked welcoming with menus on a table to the left) and was greeted by a woman who promptly left and never returned. Ok I thought, it's possible a reservation was needed so I checked out their website and sure enough a reservation was needed. I called the store which rang the phone right in front of me who the same woman answered and it was confirmed a reservation was needed. Why couldn't she tell me that face-to-face? Bonus, I was given a snobby attitude when I couldn't catch the "correct" the first time around due to her mumbling when I asked if a reservation was needed. ...well okay then.

Found this lovely place our first night in Vancouver. Everything was wonderful! We started with the deep fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce; best tofu I've ever eaten - crispy on the outside, silky inside. We also had the braised vegetables with barbecue sauce and the abalone; both excellent dishes served in ample portions. The house white wine was very good, also served in ample portions. The restaurant itself was very attractive and the service was excellent. A very pleasant find!

The fried shrimp dumplings came all deflated and sloppy--- not at all like the picture. There was excessive grease (one of them dripped when I picked it up), despite it not being crispy. The outside was a bit moist, although that's probably due to the takeout taking a while to arrive. If the owner sees this, I suggest using breathable containers in the future. The pork spareribs tasted decent but the menu clearly said pork spareribs and TARO. I ordered this partially because I was craving TARO. So why does this taste and look like SQUASH? For dishes that costed close to $10 each, the quantity is quite minimal. Both containers are close to the size of my palm and the ribs filled half of the bowl. I ordered through Doordash and can understand that prices are marked up for the platform but even so, this has been a thoroughly disappointing takeout experience and I will not be returning.

Our dinner here started with what most people came here for - Dungeness crab (salt and pepper preparation of course). It was as good as we had hoped for, but then the dishes kept coming, and our minds kept getting blown. First was their signature crispy chicken stuffed with sticky rice(窩燒糯米雞), which came in nicely cropped rectangular pieces resembling bite size sandwiches. Once I stuffed one in my mouth, the crispy skins on both sides were the first revelation. Next was the umami flavored sticky rice, which gave the "sandwich" its soft and chewy center. It must have been flavored with some variant of chicken stock, because it reminded me of a more intense hainan chicken rice. I should also mentioned there were minimal bones to be found, save for the wing and thigh pieces, which made this a very accessible chicken dish for even the youngest diners! The thoughtfulness and craft clearly shown through in this rendition of the dish. Next comes my fair warning where I will wax poetic about veggies, because it's time we give them their due especially in Chinese cuisine. Yes vegetables in this joint were given their proper respect, whether as the main show in the stir fried pea shoots dish or seafood fried noodle dish. The choy sum in the seafood fried noodles dish was particularly impressive, and each individual stalk was cooked to perfect crisp and freshness, from leave to stem. The kitchen staff clearly hand picked only the best from their suppliers and the chef made each sung to their highest notes. We also order the char siu (bbq pork belly), hot and sour soup, salt and pepper fried tofu and dried scallop fried rice. While they were perfectly adequate supplements to our meal, I did not find them to excite me as the stars of the show I mentioned above. That's my only reservation for giving it the fifth star. On service, because Yelp wants me to, we came on a slow weeknight, and the staff was more than attentive. We came here for dinner with Dungeness crab in our crosshairs. The restaurant nailed the dish, and proceeded to expand our palate on Cantonese cuisine and how proper attention and craftsmanship could elevate simple ingredients and preparations like the choy sum, to the same level of enjoyment as their more glamorous counterparts like the crab and stuffed chicken dishes.

Came here for my dad's special birthday dinner since it is our first out as a family since COVID and we all enjoyed the delicious meal with good service, delectable dishes and a comfortable dining space. We started with a preorder of their peking duck with 2 courses including their lettuce wrap and their peking duck pancakes. The pancakes themselves were great when eaten warm and there was a nice layer of meat on each piece of the skin. The lettuce wrap was also stellar as the duck stir fry had plenty of finely chopped veggies but also pieces of duck meat. They carved the duck table side so you knew that you were getting a whole duck and a fresh one at that. Ontop of this, we got their half portions of sweet and sour pork as well as fried taro and ribs. I liked that they had half portions available as we could try more dishes and both of these were good in their own way. The pork was not fatty at all, batter was light and sauce was not to sticky or sweet. The fried pork ribs were only okay as it was more bone than meat but that taro...the little cubes coated in a sweet sauce were like bites of heaven. We also tried the black truffle chicken which was a large portion of tender chicken in a flavourful but not overpowering dressing as well as the house special fried rice which came in a clay pot and lent itself to many different textural elements from corn bits to shrimp to black glutinous rice! We also added on a pea tips in broth which I found too oily for my liking but had tender veggies! Finally, we added on the egg whites with shrimp and although quite expensive for a smaller dish, there were pieces of crab strewn throughout the egg whites and sported some large, succulent prawns. Overall, prices here are definitely high but the food is good and the service was polite, friendly and visited us frequently. A good choice for a fancier chinese style dinner!

Came here on a Tuesday for dimsum. I was impressed with their covid protocols. They had barriers between each and every table and also took down a point of contacts for each table. The tables were really well spaced out. My favourite dish of the day was the shrimp toast. It's not something you can find at all dimsum places and it is pretty well done here. Just wished that it had more shrimp in it but I liked that it wasn't too oily. Another delicious dish was the pan fried sticky rice. it's an interesting take on lo mai gai and the flavours were on point. The filling was well spread out inside. My least favourite dish was the chicken rice roll as the rice roll was on the thicker side and the chicken was pretty average. I also didn't really like the bean curd wrap. I would have preferred for the wrap to be thicker to better hold the ingredients. The chicken feet and pork over rice was also average and wouldn't order it again. The thousand layer cake was one of the dishes I was most looking forward to. It feel apart too easily and I didn't like the added coconut flakes inside. But I liked the flavour of the salty egg yolk and it wasn't overly sweet just a tad dry. Overall the portions are on the smaller side and the food is on the pricier side but the flavours for almost everything was on point. I would recommend this place for older people as they would appreciate this kind of ambiance and old style food more. The service was also very fast and attentive. The water was never empty and the dishes always came out quickly. I would want to come back to try some of their dinner dishes. Tip: get the shrimp toast

We were a group of 5 and we preordered the Peking Duck Special combo dinner. This cost $328 for 6 people. The meal and service was a great disappointment. 1. The portions size was adequate for 5 people, but would have been a stretch for 6. 2. All 6 of the main dishes were put on our table within a 10 minute time frame, leaving most of the dishes cold by the time we were able to eat them. The servers, literally, just dropped them onto our table. 3. The Peking duck was ok. Not great but not horrible. The second duck dish - a stir fried duck meat with vegetables, was oily, bland, and had only a few thin slivers of dry duck meat in it. It was bad. 3. Most dishes tasted very bland and the presentation was poor. The stalks of Kai Lan that came with the satay beef were so large that we had to cut them with scissors that we happened to have in my bag. At best, the food was very average for a high end Vancouver Chinese restaurant. I could name just about any other Chinese restaurant in town that is superior to this one...Dynasty, Seaport, Victoria, even Ho Yuen Gay, not to mention any of the major choices in Richmond. 4. Service was adequate at best and surly at worst. No one introduced any of our dishes to us, plates were changed sporadically or not at all during the meal. And we were told by our waitress that tipping here is a minimum 15% 5. Although they say they will reimburse you $2 for parking at the lot next door, they refused to reimburse me when I gave them my parking receipt. Instead, they gave me a $5 off coupon for my next visit. I won't need that coupon. I won't be coming here again.

Visited for the first time for dim sum. On arrival the staff are so friendly and warm. The restaurant is very bright and clean. The food we had was delicious and our waiter was so helpful explaining dishes and how to eat them. We will definitely be going back. We had a take out also which was good , but found the chicken and fried octopus was sparse. There could have been more meat for the value but taste wise it was great.

Had dinner with a friend and we ordered the stir- fried lobster with egg white and gold flakes. It was very tasty and a nice light meal. We also ordered the rice soaked in lobster bisque which was very flavourful. Would come back again

Pros: nice intimate setting, great service. Love how the tea is being served with separate pots and heater. Steamed daikon cake had good amount of chunky daikon pieces. Seafood fried rice with brown rice had really nice texture. Cons: shrimp toast was greasy, gold coin chicken's pork jowl was 90% fat. The big soup dumpling is just average. And overall prices are very expensive. Sim sim starting at around $10 per dish and up. Maybe the expectation was too high before I went, not sure I will return anytime soon.

This is not your usual dim sum restaurant. We come here to get those long lost but traditional dime sum that most dim sum place not offer, eg. Barbecued pork jowl and chicken liver, Minced pork and seafood soup dumplings, Steamed pork dumpling w/ pork stomach. We will be back to try their dinner menu next time.

Brought by a friend early this week for dinner. Dun really know the exact name of the dishes. Overall tasted great and delicious. Worth for visit.

Service is excellent, and some dishes are really good. Other dishes like the fish in black bean sauce and prawn spring rolls were a bit of a disappointment. The spring rolls had some funky tasting cream cheese cooked in them, and it just didn't work. The fish in black bean sauce on tofu was like some rubbery fatty fish skin that tasted like cartilage. On the other hand, dumplings were really good as was the soup. Cold vegetable dishes are just average. Would try again, especially because of how fabulous the service was, but the food overall, didn't blow us away. Maybe dinner would be better as Sichuan dishes look very interesting.

If you are used to blander food, this would be great as the food is pretty "fresh" however for me mustard was needed for everything. With that being said, I do think the techniques of the food were there and it won't be a disappointment for anyone. (Saltiness aside)

The food was honestly okay. Not as good as some other places in Vancouver, but still tasty.

White guy with Chinese wife 30+ years. Eaten lots of Chinese and especially Cantonese, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Beijing and Chinatowns from San Francisco to Manhattan and of course here. This restaurant is a gem. I've had dim sum and dinner here. Highly recommended.

This place is over rated, over priced and bland. We ordered take out to be picked up at 530. It wasn't ready and I waited almost 20 minutes for it to arrive. I wasn't offered tea or water. $246.00 for 6 terrible dishes including horrible fried rice, dried out pork, inedible noodles, over cooked ling cod, wilted vegetables, and so so duck. Inexplicably they gave me forks not chopsticks. It was the worst food I've had in years. The parking Lot is an accident waiting to happen and there's no street parking. Give this place a pass.

Had dim sum and dinner here. Great food and service. A welcome addition to the Chinese food scene on the West side.
