The evening started well with a lovely setting and very welcoming staff. Unfortunately some of the food we were served was sadly very disappointing. 3 meals of our set menu were not edible. This was the meal with the beignets which were extremely oily and inedible, the risotto which was overpoweringly rich and the dessert, Jonsies chocolate bar, which is possibly one of the worst deserts I’ve eaten in a restaurant. We raised this with waiting staff and we said we found the beignets hard to eat and she said other guests had found them very “oily” without us specifically stating it. I also looked over at the couple next to us who also ordered the Jonsies bar and she hadn’t eaten hers either.
The server asked the manager to come over and when I explained how disappointing 3 of the meals were especially the chocolate dessert she asked if I eat chocolate orange which I found patronising as through there couldnt possibly be an issue with the dessert. While she did offer to swap it for something else I declined but as a show of good faith she would only charge us for 4 courses. This was R150 she took off our over R3000 bill total. I find when paying the amount we did with the expectation of high quality food it seems quite unfair to be charged such prices and parts of the meal not justify the charge.
I do feel it’s only fair that I do praise some of the waiting staff, Chilla our server and ST another server who were excellent and their 10/10 service. I also believe it’s only fair that the other courses we had were fantastic just a shame the standard wasn’t there throughout and when you pay R1300 per person and let down by a few courses and that management could be more open to hear that the chef has dropped the ball on more than one course. What might have been fair at minimum is being charged for what we did eat.
