Cherry Street Bar-B-Que

"Its red neon sign shines like a beacon, as this 1920 building – which was once a bank – now sits proudly isolated in the middle of a massive waterfront construction project, but step inside and you immediately feel cocooned in its warm-heartedness. It was pitmaster Lawrence La Pianta who brought the barbecue traditions of the American South to Hogtown; after years of competing and judging with the Kansas City Barbeque Society circuit, he knows his way around a broad range of tastes ranging from Texas-style brisket to St. Louis-style ribs. Lightly charred wings and snappy, finely spiced sausage links are sleeper hits. Everything is smoked on the patio inside a redesigned shipping container. Stopping by on a weekend? Be aware that meats are likely to sell out." - Michelin Inspector

"For a taste of Texas outside the Lone Star state, this local Port Lands favorite brings the barbecue traditions of the American south to Hogtown. Pitmaster Lawrence La Pianta displays his years of competition and judging experience with the Kansas City Barbecue Society circuit through a myriad of techniques and flavors including Texas-style brisket to St. Louis-style ribs. And if you plan on stopping by during the weekend, prepare to come early as the meats tend to sell out." - Kevin Chau

2022 Toronto MICHELIN Bib Gourmands

"After years of competing and judging with the Kansas City Barbeque Society circuit, Lawrence La Pianta knows his way around a broad range of tastes, from Texas-style brisket to St. Louis-style ribs. Lightly charred wings and snappy, finely spiced sausage links are sleeper hits. The brisket has a good peppercorn bark, but not a lot of smoky flavour. The sausage is ok. The spar ribs were tasty. The beans and potato salad were both well above average, with the beans packing a flavour punch. The 4 stars is really for the pulled pork as it didn't have too much sauce and tasted a bit strange, so much so, that we didn't finish it. Service is at a counter, and reasonable quick, as it was not busy. The staff brought water and menus as soon as we sat down.

Stopped in for dinner with a friend after a sunny afternoon at Cherry Beach. I had the sausage sandwich with an “Ice Cold Beer” ale on draught — both were absolutely delicious. You order at the counter, then relax on their spacious patio while a server brings your food and drinks. The service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Food portion is good, very filling and great value for money. They are severely understaffed though so service is not the best. We had to wait quite a while for a table though there were multiple available but just not cleaned yet. They have live music and an open patio outside but also seating inside. It’s delightedly loud with the live band outside so not the best to sit out if you’re looking for a place to talk. The food was good, portion was the highlight but the brisket wasn’t the best. I enjoyed the ribs but found it slightly chewy. The pulled pork was the best dish. Their cornbread is really really good, it’s a must try! Overall it was a good experience! Would definitely go back.

It was my first time visiting this BBQ restaurant with a friend, and we ordered a platter to share. I really enjoyed their sausage — it was grilled perfectly! The other meats were decent, though nothing particularly outstanding. When we arrived, the place wasn’t too busy, so our food came out pretty quickly. But while we were eating, a long line started forming — definitely a popular spot! There are plenty of seats available, and I really liked the cozy and well-decorated atmosphere inside.

Wow! The brisket at Cherry Street Bar BBQ is pure magic. One bite immediately transported me back to Texas – I was truly impressed by its authentic flavor. And let's talk about those peppers! They were the absolute 'cherry on top,' delivering a spicy, delicious kick that perfectly complemented the meal. Don't leave without trying their house beer; it's highly recommended. Visiting this place is an absolute must!

The main event (brisket) is not really as good as I expected it to be. I've had better elsewhere. The platter was sold out after queuing for over 30 minutes to place my order. We got the brisket and sausage. It was good! The sides were better. Corn bread, pickled sides. They took forever to bring the food and after waiting half an hour to order, we were pretty tired and hungry so the disappointment hit harder. Our dessert was forgotten and we had to wait to get that too. Good vibes by the patio. Lovely crowd and decent DJ. Wouldn't revisit though. One try is good enough.

Great group experience! Went with about 15 people and we had a tray of food with enough for us to take home leftovers! Servers were great as well :) I’ll definitely be back with my boyfriend for dates!

We ordered the Large Sampler ($90) which is more than enough for two people. We ended up having a lot of food to take home which was nice. The riblets and sausage were our favourite. We were most excited to try the brisket but it was unfortunately quite dry and rough in some spots. The ribs could have also used a bit more sauce. I was impressed with the sides - the mac and cheese and sweet potato mash were both amazing. The service was great though. The staff were very patient and attentive.
