The Superior Barbecue of Philly

"A hobby became a pandemic side hustle for college professor R. Scott Hanson, an Austin ex-pat. Keep an eye on Instagram to see where to find his Tex-Mex barbecue pop-up, which currently appears one Saturday a month at the Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market. You’ll also find North by Texas’s smoked brisket burnt ends in breakfast tacos Fridays at Taco Heart, another restaurant from an Austin transplant determined to bring the flavors of the South to Philly." - Ernest Owens, Eater Staff

"This weekly farmers market, located at the “bottom of the hill,” is open throughout the year (with varied seasonal hours), and rotates a small collection of stands selling garden-fresh produce and locally sourced meats, lovely plants and botanicals, small-batch wine and beer, and hand-blended spices." - George Banks-Weston

Saturday November 4th 2023 Randomly ubering through the area (don't live around here) I was pleasantly surprised to find this small farmers market. It's only a short block long but lots of veggies, meats, and other goodies you'd expect to find at a farmers market. I had a hard time finding gluten free food unfortunately. I'm not surprised based on the limited amount of vendors but I am surprised because it's a farmers market - usually there's more dairy free/gluten free/allergy free/vegan friendly food. Discovered Randalia Bee Hives. My 4 star rating is for the farmers market but he gets a 5 star, bought a few things. Very nice gentleman!

Great fresh produce. Also the wings from Rineer family farms came out great.

Loses a point bc everything is pretty overpriced but unsurprisingly the farmers market in the richest neighborhood in Philly is really nice. The BBQ is good. The produce is excellent especially Taproot farms. Primordia has tons of mushroom options. People will argue with me but I don't think the bread is worth it though. And the butcher and fish are excellent but again very pricey.

Fantastic market, every Saturday. Produce is of course local and excellent. Lost Bread is amazing. And if you are a mushroom connoisseur, heaven.

Open all year round January through April from 10-12pm, and 9-12pm the rest of the year. Always at least 10 vendors. Multiple produce and protein farmers. Great weekly selection of mushrooms, and biweekly seafood from small world seafood

Fresh food, mostly local, only available Saturday morning. Excellent vegetables. The mushroom stand is exceptional. Might want to consider bringing your own bags.

Pretty darn terrific, though small. A gorgeous, organic vegetable stand (heirloom tomatoes, some special eggplant varieties, beans, squash, etc.) A terrific baker. Super-duper, unbelievable, mushrooms!! 🍄! Only about 8-10 vendors altogether, and crowded, but there's some luscious stuff available. Really exceeded my expectations, given its small size. Open year-round, but keep in mind that means produce is very seasonal. No tomatoes on January, no rutabagas in July, that kind of thing. And not every vendor is there every week.

Yelp
My husband and 11 month old daughter and I had a great time there on a Sunday. We stopped at the school park across the street to play and then came here for a bite. The flowers were in full bloom! Not all of the stores inside were open on a Sunday, but the brewery was lively and the food we got was great. Lots of families and kids- great atmosphere.

Yelp
Went here to check out the new brewery and ended up making many purchases from other vendors. I was able to score a Stock's pound cake (insert Hallelujah chorus here), legit babaganoush and nigiri. Our friends got chicken wings that looked amazing...they were good but very spicy...good thing cold beers were handy.

Yelp
The Farmer's market is has transformed and really come a long way if you haven't been in there in the past few years. Some nice additions to some already great staples. Absolutely worth the visit if you haven't been there in a while. Chestnut Hill is lucky to have this gem! Worth the trip even if you aren't from the area.

Yelp
The market is growing! It was slow for a while. Metropolitan bakery just opened a stand as well as a few others. My favorite place is the Persian stall. Not cheap, but very high quality. I go out of my way to buy dates from him. Just the best I've ever had! He also had homemade middle eastern foods. Just excellent.
