Bravo Chef Stacy Crowe-Simonson!!! I honestly did not know what to expect. This restaurant is located in this little quaint unassuming neighborhood of Humble. First off Humble??? What? I was thinking the same thing, how can this restaurant in Humble have such good reviews and why is it better than the many French places in Houston?! Well this place proved me wrong on so many levels.
The ambiance!!! Yes, it's in a house but once you walk in, it's like I was transformed to an old restaurant in France. From the wine wall, the lighting, the table setting to the wall paper and the lamps, and the candle holders and armoire - it just eluded sophistication without trying. I was joking with my bf that it felt like the interior of the beasts' castle in Beauty and the Beast cause of the armoie, the clock, the candle holders, etc. My bf hates fancy restaurants but this one was different, it was relaxed, yet sophisticated at the same time. Definitely not at all stiff and sterile. It was comfortable and homey - lots of places try to get this right but this place nailed it. The food, the service and the ambiance were just perfection!
We were celebrating a late Valentine's day and I'm so glad we came here - it was definitely worth the drive. For food, we ordered:
*Escargot de Bourgogne - burgundy snails in shallot, garlic and herb butter. Never had I had such large snails in any of the restaurants in Houston. The snails were plump and garlicky and delicious. Seasoned perfectly.
*Seared Fresh Foie Gras with carmelized apple, berries and honey vinegar gastrique - the foie gras is rich and decadent, like it suppose to be. But when you serve it on toast with the berries and fruit, it was the perfect bite of flavors.
*Fresh Blue Crab, Mango, Avocado and Tomato Tower - I loved loved loved how fresh this was. Amazing flavors and I liked how cold it was served and how it stayed cold through the whole dish. Details ladies and gents - they nailed it on this particular detail.
*Roasted Rack of Young New Zealand Lamb with Dijon-Rosemary Crust and Port-Shallot Reduction - doesn't even taste gamey or like lamb. The meat was tender little lollipops, cut table-side for presentation and comes with the most perfect reduction. It also comes with garlicky mash potatoes, green beans, spaghetti squash and carrots (both candied). Loved the mash potatoes so much!
*Filet Mignon, 10oz - there is a selection of 5 or 6 different sauces. My bf got his with a peppercorn sauce. The steak itself was tender and cooked perfectly, the bf said it didn't need a sauce but I know how the French love their sauces. He devoured this and it came with the same sides above. Can't ever go wrong with a filet mignon!
*Chocolate Souffle - this has to be made to order and they were quick to honor the request, even though we were here well past closing. The souffle was a bit too sweet and I couldn't taste the chocolate but it was light and fluffy.
*Drinks - the strawberry moscow mule was a bit on the sweet side but good. And we also tried the gin drink that was fantastic. There is also a large wine by the glass or bottle selection.
There definitely wasn't anything we ordered that we didn't like - this place nailed it all and there were no complaints. It was cute and romantic and it won my bf over, who hates fancy places. We will definitely be back and make this a staple restaurant for celebrations. I'm salivating thinking about all the food again, so hopefully I'll be back soon!
