"Long Beach has tons of great Thai spots, from the bare-bones Tasty Food to Go to the more upscale Thai District, but none of them are quite like Chiang Rai, a neon-hued Eastside restaurant that specializes in less commonly seen Northern Thai dishes. Make a beeline for anything in the “Chiang Rai Local Food” section of the menu, including fragrant sai oua sausage with a fiery green chile dip, dry-style khao soi noodles, and a vivid sweet-salty yellow curry that comes with fried chicken and flaky roti bread for dipping. And if you decide you just want to stay home and order takeout, Chiang Rai has you covered, too—the kitchen puts as much love into delivery staples like pad thai and pineapple fried rice as they do their Northern-style beef larb." - garrett snyder, nikko duren, brant cox

"Chiang Rai is exactly why you don't judge a book by its cover. You could easily walk by its generic-looking facade, but that would be such a shame indeed. Inside, it's delightfully quirky and colorful with a contemporary vibe. And then there's the food. There is a lengthy Thai menu spotlighting Northern specialties and street food, but skip straight to the Chiang Rai Local Food portion and order away. The kitchen caters to the American palate, so if you're a heat seeker don't be shy about speaking up. Khao soi, a classic northern Thai curry, is given a twist here with thin slices of raw ribeye over thin egg noodles. Hot soup is then ladled over it to gently cook the tender meat while delivering a depth of flavor for a supremely satisfying meal." - Michelin Inspector

This place offers a mix of standard and northern-style Thai food. It has also been recognized by the Michelin Guide for three consecutive years. Food: SUPERB. The portions are huge, and everything we ordered was tasty and authentic. Khao Soi was amazing, served with pickled cabbage, definitely a must-try. The sticky rice that came with the som tam and fried chicken was incredibly tender and fragrant. Location: Easy to find but difficult to park. We visited on a Friday, and there was a street sweeping from 1:30–3:30 PM, so we had to park pretty far from the restaurant. Vibe: This place has the genuine feel of a street food spot in Thailand, small, packed, and full of great food. Service: The restaurant was extremely crowded when we visited. It seemed like they were short-staffed. We tried to get a water refill, but the staff was too busy to attend to it.

Luckily got a reservation for 2 and when we got there we were seated instantly! The atmosphere was lively and the service was great, they were very nice. So many things I wanted to try but since there was only 2 of us, we definitely had to limit ourselves. The roti combo was delicious! Amazing combo of the fried wings (2 whole wing pieces, basically 2 drums and 2 flats) with the yellow curry and roti together. Flavors were on point. The crying tiger and moo ping were both great choices. Love that one of them came with sticky rice, it’s a must. The sauces for them seemed similar though. Thoroughly enjoyed the Khao Soi, really liked it with the soft shell crab. If you’ve never had Khao Soi before, please ask the server to explains the side condiments! Completely enhances the flavors! We were way too full to get desserts but I’ll be back for sure to try more things because it was a wonderful Thai food experience. Parking - street parking. Surrounding residential area has free street parking, we were lucky to find a space not too far from the restaurant.

Nothing made me love this place, but the food was good enough to keep eating. The oysters and crying tiger were the best dishes That tasted good. I did not like their version of green tea (It seemed it was made with dairy , mint and some other flavors) The wait time was long. Even though when we got there there were only two or three other tables, we waited 32 min. When we noticed our table being skipped, we had to call someone over to take our order. The waitress came and left only one cup of water; she said she would be back, she never came back with more cups of water until more time had passed by. I’m not sure how long it took to finally get our food, but by the time it finally did our table was filled with full and empty cups which none were cleared off the table. Also the food was barely hot when it arrived. No one checked in on us. I wanted to say something about the noodles tasting undercooked. I was excited to come try the food here because of its Michelin star status, but I personally did not see how they had earned that. Even getting the bill took long.

Just finished an incredible meal at this tiny Thai place in Long Beach. Wait times can be very long, but there are a few bars nearby you can hang out in while you wait for your table. We ordered quite a few dishes and none of them disappointed. Stand outs were the spicy mama noodles and the Khao Soi chicken soup. Only negative was that the chicken in the dishes was a bit overcooked as they primarily use white meat. Highly recommend and would love to go again.

Google
This is a Michelin-rated restaurant and for good reason: The food is delicious! Everything is so flavorful! Get here early or else you'll wait in a long line. The food pics speak for themselves! Make a point to trying their food but they don't take reservations so you'll just have to get their before everyone else does. Try the Khao Soi. It's amazing!

Google
A good Thai restaurant with an exquisite and cozy interior. The menu design is thoughtful and well-crafted, showing the effort they put into it. I ordered Pad Kee Mao, BBQ Pork & Crispy Pork Noodles, Thai Iced Tea, and Moo Sahm Chan Tod Nam Pla (Fried Marinated Pork). Everything was delicious and above average, though the flavors leaned a bit on the sweeter side. The portions were small, and while no dish stood out significantly, it’s still worth trying if you’re in the area.

Google
Came down from the valley to check out this place. I heard only great things about it and it definitely lived up to the hype! Honestly, everything sooo delicious and flavorful. It was hard to pick a favorite. But we got the fresh oysters to start, we were flavored Thai street style. Then we got Khao Soi Noodle Soup with Thai sausage, the Roti Combo and the Chiang Rai Pork. All great big portions! Next time I’m in Long Beach, I’m coming back :) Just a tip, prepare to wait a bit for a table. But they text you when your tank is ready. My friend and I got boba in the meantime.

It's the place you should come visit at least once if you want to try something different. They have pretty authentic Northern Thai food. Came on Sunday 20 mins before the restaurant openned with party of 3. There was already a long line. We're lucky enough to make the cut and got the last table for the first round. Otherwise, we'll need to wait for at least another hour. Plenty street parking.

Yelp
this place is a SOO GOOD!! tucked into Long Beach, this Thai place hits the spot! :)) the first time I had this place, I knew I had to continue to come back! here's what we got: -roti with yellow curry: 4/5 MUST get this as a appetizer! they make it SO CRISPY AND FLAKEY!! dipped in the warm curry, it's such a great pairing! -sai ua: 4.5/5 so good!! balanced flavor of meat and aromatics! -khao soi with soft shell crab: 3/5 the presentation was nice, it was a little on the sweeter side for my liking. didn't have too much in the bowl -pad thai with chicken: 4/5 solid pad thai!!! everything was flavorful and balanced!!! Overall I give this place 4/5! The service was great! This place gets packed really quick during dinner time so come by early! Parking can be a little tough since it's street parking on a small street, but definitely not impossible!

Yelp
This was my go to Thai food for the longest time before it exploded, and I'm really happy for them that it did! I've ordered to go many times and have eaten in person way too many times. I'm willing to look for parking and wait just because they do everything so well here! The staff is extremely friendly and service is quick. My go to is always the crab curry and Khao Soi. Very delectable and soup hits the spot that I end up eating leftover rice from another dish with the Khao soi. Their fried chicken is delicious ! Very juice. Would recommend the roti curry pairing as well!

Yelp
Came with my family, we were a party of 7! We went at the right time because surprisingly we did not wait at all. Our servers were nice and accommodating. Every single dish we ordered were soooo good. The branzino and the rotti with yellow curry my favorite though. Id love to come back and bring more friends !

Yelp
Chiang Rai has delicious Thai food. I can only a Thursday evening, and the place was packed. Our party was quickly seated, and given menus, which had a huge selection of delicious Thai dishes. We tried the Khao Soi, which is probably the best Khao Soi I've had had in the US. Not only was the curry savory and not too sweet, but the portion was huge. We also tried the Crying Tiger, Yellow Curry with Roti and Fried Chicken, and Fried Branzino with a super interesting apple sauce. Everything was delicious, I would order everything I tried again. The service is great, and the vibe of the restaurant is casual. I highly recommend coming to Chiang Rai if you have the chance.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Chiang Rai for a long time now and I finally got the chance with a group of friends. We came in on the weekday for lunch and it was surprisingly busy. We did not have to wait but the restaurant was pretty full. We got seated and were all impressed how many different items they had on their menu. They even had a lunch menu which included thai tea. I hear the lunch menu portions are smaller than the regular menu though. But what makes Chiang Rai special is that they specialize in Northern Thai food as well. Oh and lots of options for seafood which I appreciate. We did share some spring rolls that were pretty good. I went with their seafood tom kha which came out in a hot pot on flames. It was pretty good and had lots of meats in it. It was a large pot and I had plenty left overs. All of my friends enjoyed their food and we all left satisfied. The pricing is affordable and portions were of an okay size. The customer service was excellent. They made sure to check up on us and brought whatever we needed. The inside is casual but it is cute. It definitely has a nice vibe. Parking can be difficult because it's located on the street and parking is limited. You can park in the neighborhoods too but also hard finding a spot.

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this place for a while, but since they are closed on my day off, it's been really hard. Was really close to it on Sunday night and decided to stop in and try our luck. There were some people sitting outside, so I knew we were gonna have to wait a little bit, but the weight wasn't very long. They have a sign asking you to please limit your stay so that others get a chance to eat. We had the sampler which was very filling love the sauce that came with it and everything was amazing. Next, we had the Pat see you with beef, which I love the consistency of the noodles sometimes it's hard to get really well cooked noodles. The pork belly was our favorite. We are suckers for pork belly and this did not disappoint. We topped it off with the salad, but as you can guess it was equally as great. The establishment is really cozy. And the staff is very friendly considering there's usually always people waiting and constantly asking when their table will be ready. Our waitress was really nice and took care of us promptly.

Yelp
Worth the wait! Went here for an anniversary! The interior is cozy but with a vibrant aesthetic - so fun! The food was great, definitely up there in terms of Thai restaurants in SoCal in my opinion. While everything was good in its own way, the highlight for me was the oysters! I've never had Thai-style/Thai flavor oysters, and these were a flavor explosion in the mouth. Left us wanting to get 5 more orders. You can tell the quality of the oysters was very high. Will be back if I'm in the area!

Yelp
After seeing tik toks of this place I decided to see if this place was a catfish and drumroll pleaseeeee ITS NOT! It's good! This place is small, cozy, and of course instagrammable. But! This doesn't negate the food quality though, this place is good Tom Yum-- 5/5 Probably my new favorite Tom Yum soup in OC/LA area. This is a must get! It is so bright and flavorful, and the soup is so concentrated Beef Salad --4/5 This was really good! i wish they had more salad though. Khao Soi Noodle-- 3/5 This was good as well but my least favorite and wouldn't get as again. The topping was a bit much. Service-- 4/5 Pretty attentive, forgot our drinks but no biggie, we got them eventually Overall/ 4/5 I will be back for the soup, it was so delish!

Yelp
Luckily we got in at a good time because it's very busy mainly because the restaurant isn't that big. The best dish we ordered was the grilled ribeye it was tender and flavorful. The red curry was good and the spicy was just right. The roti & fried wings were good but not worth the price. Overall it's a good restaurant but the prices are high for the portions you get but all the dishes were flavorful. Now I have to go find something else to eat! Still hungry!

Anita L.

Yelp
It's been quite some time since I've had Thai food that's this good! Absolutely deserving of their Michelin star. My friends and I have been planning this visit for quite some time. We finally were about to make it. We arrived pretty early to ensure we got a table. People started filing in around 15-20 mins before they opened. We were first in line, so we were seated right away after opening. We got our orders in about 20 mins (took is a while to peruse the menu) after sitting down. The restaurant was completely full after 22 mins of opening. I felt bad for those who got there just to find out they had missed the first seating. We ordered a bunch of food: Roti with curry -- this was my least favorite item. Roti was on the greasy side, but the curry sauce was bomb. Papaya salad (som tum pla ra) -- we got the basic one with fermented fish. WOW! This is why I love northern Thai cuisine. The papaya was super crunchy, it was savory, not the least bit sweet. Grilled pork neck -- this was delicious. Smoky and nicely seasoned. The accompanying sauce was a little like the Laotian jeow sauce, but with a bit of sweetness. Sausage (sai oua) -- this was some of the best sausage I've had. Super flavorful and moist. Crispy exterior skin and beautifully flavored ground pork inside. I loved it so much we got a second order. Khao Soi Rib Eye -- I'm not a huge fan of Khao Soi so I only took a few bites to taste. This one is tasty. Again, I loved how it wasn't sweet. I would've liked more sour pickled veg but my friends ate most of it. Fried Branzino (pla tod) -- what a fantastic dish. The branzino arrived whole, super crispy outside and flaky meaty on the inside. We thoroughly enjoyed this. It was a pleasure to partake in such a fabulous meal. Highly recommend!

Zynette C.

Yelp
Food yummy! Everything we ordered were delicious. Service great! Ambience perfect! We want to come back soon. I highly recommend this place.

Rachel K.

Yelp
When we walked in there were plenty of tables open, but that's only because we got lucky to get there right before the dinner rush! The service was terrible, but not in a bad way. Just in the type of way that it's clear they're not there to give customer service, they are just there to get you what you need. The food is so delicious! We had the appetizer sampler but wish we would have gone with the spring rolls instead. The fried rice, pad kee mao, and Tom yum soup were all very delicious! Overall the restaurant is clean and very cute and cozy. Very happy with our experience overall!

Julio V.

Yelp
Finally got to try this hyped up spot. It was worth it for me but my partner thought differently. It's first come first serve. You can join the waitlist once you've arrived. It's a small place so the Wait is long. we went to the beer lab next door to wait. Once seated they serve you pretty quickly depending on what you ordered. We tried the oysters, papaya salad, boat noodles, and khao soi. The oysters were delicious! But a bit pricey. The papaya salad was nothing special and I would not get this again. The boat noodles were super tasty and was my favorite dish. The Khao soi was a disappointment. It was far too sweet even with selecting the spicy level. Not our style. Overall I think this place has good food and will return to try different dishes someday.

Mila J.

Yelp
We've been trying to visit Chiang Rai a while, we tried 2x before on different occasions and the wait was too long each time. The third time really is the charm because we were in the area around the time they opened today and were able to get seated fairly quickly. We ordered the chiang rai larb, roti with curry appetizer, fried pork belly dish, and dry khao soi. Each dish was distinctly flavorful and the portions were generous! The menu is also the most unique I've seen. Can't wait to come back next time to try the branzino and tom yum soup.

Yelp
LOCATION: Anaheim/Mira Mar PARKING: Street/residential parking WHAT WE ORDERED: * Fresh Oyster Thai Street Style ($7.50) * Dry Khao Soi w/ Chicken ($17.95) * Roti Combo ($21.95) I was ecstatic and hyped to see such an expansive menu of Thai dishes. This time, I strayed away from the more well-known dishes and tried new, notably best-selling items from this spot. We started with the Fresh Oyster Thai Street Style. Let me tell you -- that started us off on a GREAT foot. If only I could explain the explosion of flavor that I received from eating one singular oyster alone. It was sweet, salty, sour, and spicy, all in the best way possible. The tang hits you the minute you smell it. Looking back, I wish I ordered more. It was my favorite dish of the night. I was so excited to eat the rest of my food after this. I received the Roti Combo shortly after. This dish consists of Northern Thai-style fried chicken wings, yellow, curry, and roti (fried flatbread). The roti was light, airy, and crispy. The chicken was not dry, but it was hard to eat and pick apart since it was the wing. The curry was phenomenal. I wish I could've picked up the bowl and drank from it. Lastly, the famous Dry Khao Soi came out. Upon the first bite, it was delectable. After continuous eating, I felt myself reaching for my water more and more. It was so salty, making it almost unbearable to eat. I was so disappointed because I thought this was supposed to be their best dish, but I thought it was way too salty to be that good. Maybe my taste buds were off. The saltiness of the Dry Khao Soi led me to dock off a star -- otherwise, I would give Chiang Rai a solid 4.5/5. Perhaps I'll try the Khao Soi Noodle Soup and re-evaluate it then. I still recommend it to anyone who wants to try a wide variety of Thai dishes!

Nicole M.

Yelp
After finished some business in Long Beach, we both were craving Thai food. Saw a post on instagram about this place and decided to give it a try. Glad we did!! First it was a Saturday night, but we still didn't anticipate a long wait. We arrived and was put on a waitlist for an hour. We left and went to beach. Came back just in time. It's a bit bright in there for my dining taste. Hospital bright. I guess they do that so people don't get too comfortable and leave, so others can dine because the space is quite small. So I get it. We were welcomed by a nice server who helped us decide. I usually order Pad tai at every thai spot I go to but this night I wanted to try something new. I went with the Curry Chicken, which was fantastic. The coconut soup was my ultimate favorite of the night. My friend ordered the pad tai with veggies which tasted delicious. We ordered the sticky mango rice for dessert which I had never had and was amazing! Thai iced tea to wash it all down which was also very yummy. Would I recommend? That would be a HELL YEAH, bright lights and all lol

Kat V.

Yelp
They are busy but service is fast! Their menu is huge with many selections of northern Thai food and central Thai food. I could not decide but went with the special, wagyu beef Thai boat noodle. The meats are super tender and go very well with tasty beef broth. The khao soi is rich and creamy. Both noodles, rice and egg, in both dishes are tasty. I like the dessert, rice balls with sesame paste in coconut milk.

Montse A.

Yelp
Sooo soo good. Even saved some so my partner can try it! Can't wait to go back. Friendly service and great food options.

Christy V.

Yelp
Wow, just amazing! Our Thai friend recommended this spot since he said it's close to the flavors back in Thailand. Now I've never been to Thailand but the flavors were amazing and unforgettable. I see why they have a Michelin star now!! We got the Thai oysters which were refreshing and unique! I'd say the price was reasonable for what you get in terms of flavor and quality. The khao soi was delicious as well. Super rich and flavorful broth with amazing soft shell crab and fried noodle on the side. The Tom yum fried rice was unique with good amount of Tom yum flavor. I've only seen this dish once elsewhere so it's worth getting! Service was quick and they were attentive. It is a smaller restaurant and they do get busy, so plan accordingly. There may be a wait on a week night too! Parking is all street parking, but you might get lucky and find spots in the residential street.

Andrew H.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night and it was POPPIN - really busy with a constant wait outside and people coming in and out. It's great to have another Thai spot in Long Beach--you would've never expected this place to be here on a quiet section of PCH. On a friend's recommendation got the Khao Soi as noodle soup with Sai Uao spicy sausage as the protein. The broth was delicious--piping hot, rich, flavorful, and well balanced. It's served with a generous portion of egg noodles which, like magic, somehow get coated by the broth--almost like the broth is sticking to it which elevates it beyond just normal egg noodles in soup. It was super tasty and they give you some toppings to add on the side. Parking wasn't too tricky, as there was plenty on PCH (in fact, there was more parking nearby on PCH than in the neighborhood). Service was friendly and attentive and the inside is super hip/modern looking. Would be back again to try more items on the menu!

Crystal K.

Yelp
Finally able to try this place after seeing a bunch of Instagram reels and it did not disappoint. The food was so good. I came with a group of 5 and we ordered a couple different dishes to try. Everything was delicious but if I had to put in order my favorite, it would be: * Tom kha soup - which is funny because I don't usually like this dish but it was so delicious here * khao soi with beef flank - amazing, just like in northern Thailand! * crispy pork belly with lots of garlic and green onion * crispy roti with fried chicken and yellow curry * gang hang lay - made with whole garlic and amazing Highly recommend. There's a long line but the wait wasn't too bad and you can enter your name into the waiting system they have, which makes it so organized and painless

Kathy S.

Yelp
We got influenced by IG posts about Chiang Rai so we had to try this place! We drove 45 minutes and found a long line outside the store at 530pm. We put on name down and waited until 645pm to be seated. By the time we ordered and settled in it was 7:05pm. We had high hopes and couldn't wait to eat! Ordered: Khao soi rib eye: not the best khao soi we've had, but it wasn't bad. $19.95 Steamed branzino: the tangy sauce was refreshing but unfortunately the fish was bland. $45.95 Kua prik kuar crispy pork: a miss! The pork belly wasn't crispy and more on the oily side when you bite into it. The fried egg was good. $22.95 Crab meat fried rice: nothing special and it was too salty $22.95 Matcha orange tea: a strange mix and I recall it being quite sweet. $6.50 Service was good. Food came out fast. The table given to us was too small for 3 people and we couldn't eat comfortably. Parking was not easy. Street parking was hard to find and LBC drivers are not kind about slowing down for street parkers.

Yelp
This Thai spot is in the Michelin guide so I had high expectations and I knew it would be poppin. We went exactly at 4:00 PM when it opened for dinner. Actually, we went a few minutes before they even opened and waited outside. I was surprised there wasn't already a line. We were lucky to be one of the first tables seated at 4:00 and the place was FULLY packed by 4:10 PM. Their menu has a wide variety of dishes. Decor is cute and colorful and it felt like I was transported to Thailand. Place was fairly small and warm inside on one of the hottest days of the summer. I don't think they have AC. They had fans running but it was still pretty warm inside. We tried the following: - Pad Thai with tofu: yummy but not amazing - Pad See Ew with chicken: also good but not amazing - Khao Soi Noodle Soup with soft shell crab. Khao Soi is one of the dishes they're known for but I wasn't too impressed. I liked the crunchy noodles but the overall flavor of the broth was just okay to me. - Roti: yummy! We really enjoyed this one. - Papaya Salad: fresh and delicious - Pineapple Fried Rice: good, standard. Not too special. - Steamed Branzino: impressive presentation. Tasted okay but I'm not a huge fan of steamed fish to begin with. Overall this place is good but I didn't think it was Michelin guide worthy. Service was fine but not particularly noteworthy as well. Parking: free small lot in back or street parking

Yelp
As someone that likes Thai food, I was excited to try Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai held Michelin stars in the past, which particularly got my interest. Upon heading to the location, I found the first challenge was finding parking. Since I went on a Saturday around 1 pm, there was limited street parking. However, I ended up parking on Mira Mar Ave and walked over. After parking, the next challenge was the wait. Chiang Rai is a small store with a big reputation. For a party of two, I needed to wait about an hour. I was able to monitor my place on the waitlist through the app after checking in. For ordering, I decided to get the Khoi Soi (Dry) Noodles (mild), Tom Yum Shrimp (mild), and the Crab Cheese Wontons. The food was definitely worth the wait. It was my first time trying Khoi Soi and it easily became one of my favorite Thai dishes. The Tom Yum tasted okay, but I found adding some spices on the table made it taste better. As for the wontons, those were tasty and crunchy. My only complaint was that I finished it too quickly! Note: American Express is accepted.

Yelp
I was here on September 5th at around 6pm. I dropped in without a reservation. I signed in and was seated in about 15 minutes. I ordered their most popular items on yelp, the roti with yellow curry and khao soi. The service was quick and attentive. Roti with Yellow Curry: This was absolutely amazing. The roti was nice and crisp and the combination with the yellow curry meant I wished I had ordered more roti for it. Khao Soi with Soft Shell Crab at a "spicy" spice level: The star of the show. The curry/soup had a great flavor to it. There was plenty of crab and it was well flavored a crunchy. The crispy noodles were great and the boiled egg noddles had a nice bite to it. The heat was plentiful and had me sweating. I would definitely go here again to try some more of their dishes. This is a great place to go to if you're looking for a Thai restaurant that is a step up from what you would get at most places.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with some friends after moving here. Street parking is available, definitely gets busy around dinner time. We ordered the khao soi (highly recommended and well known for their Michelin guide in 2022) and it was amazing. Honestly, all of the food is amazing. We ordered the crying tiger, fried branzino, and their roti combo in addition to their chicken khao soi. Portions are generous and I could def say the khao soi js a MUST order. Huge portion and their prices are really reasonable. Soooo good!

This is our 2nd time here and definitely not the last! We've had Thai food all over SoCal, including Thai town, and Chiang Rai is by far the best Thai spot! The food is always top tier in quality and flavor. We always try at least one new dish and nothing has disappointed so far. Here are the staples that we always get: Moo Ping, Tom Kha or Tom Yom, Pad Kee Mao, Papaya Salad, Crying Tiger, Moo Sahm Chan Tod Nam Pla, OG Pang Pang and the Thai tea jam Pang Pang.

Yelp
This place is SO good! I had the Ribeye Khao Soi, and it was amazing. The broth was super creamy and flavorful, and the mix of soft noodles with the crispy ones on top was perfect. My friend taught me to add the garlic on top and it was mind blowing. I also got the Soft Shell Yellow Curry, the Appetizer Platter, and the Larb. The curry was super rich, and the soft shell crab was cooked perfectly - so crispy and flavorful. The appetizer platter was a great way to try a little bit of everything (the spring rolls were my favorite), and the larb was fresh and had the perfect kick of spice. The people there were really nice, and the whole vibe of the place felt super chill. I'm definitely coming back to try more dishes. If you're into Thai food, especially noodles or curry, you have to check this place out. Worth it!

Yelp
Took my fellow ushers for a Christmas dinner. There were 5 of us and got seated at the very front. I wouldn't mind seating there except that their plastic plant keeps on getting blown on us. Ordered 5 dishes. The Tom yun seafood soup was okay with calamari, shrimp, mussels. There was nothing extraordinary about the soup. The papaya salad with the steak was very disappointing. There were more cabbage than green papaya. Don't call it a papaya salad when it's not the main ingredient. The eggplant dish was okay. I could hardly taste the Thai basil in it. Pad Thai was also ordinary and was on the mushy side. The Thai fried rice with shrimp was acceptable. Service can be greatly improved. They didn't transfer some leftover soup into a container in order to have room on the table. Our hot tea was not replenished with hot water.

Yelp
The food here is very good. We had Pad See Ew, Midnight Chicken and Tom Ka soup. We also ordered a side of rice and roti. The noodles in the pad see you were all stuck together and kind of gummy. We got it with tofu. There was a lot. The midnight chicken was delicious. The sauce for the chicken makes it all that much better. Plenty to share. Several dishes on the menu have a 20 minute preparation time. The soup was well prepared and had a good amount of shrimp in it. For drinks we had Thai iced tea. I had never had green Thai iced tea and it was so refreshing and not that sweet. The service is impeccable. There was a fairly long wait time. About 45 minutes. It's easy to see why. The ambience is nice except for the uncomfortable seating. Some of the seats have cushions. Parking can be challenging.

Yelp
A must try on my list. It's a place I kept seeing on Instagram and a place I saved on Yelp. Finally came and it did not disappoint. Sunday dinner 4pm. We decided to have an early dinner JUST Incase we had to wait long lines - we came at opening. And surprisingly enough many people thought the same ... there was a line outside before it even opened. * food + food + food!! * indoor ambiance * quick wait * green thai iced tea * great service One con: parking is difficult. It's defintiely a hole in a wall/ corner spot. There are 3 spaces in the back but the rest is just luck on street parking! the food was superb!! We ordered the following : - red and green thai iced tea - fried pork neck (15 minute wait = freshly cooked) - fried chicken wings + sticky rice + papaya salad (medium spicy) - crab fried rice - khao soi with soft shell crab - pad see ew with beef - two fresh oysters Everything was so good! My oyster loving son said this was his favorite oysters so far because it came with fried garlic pieces. (We had to ask for the sauce on the side because it's spicy) Our favorite was the chicken wings and papaya salad. It was amazing! I will defintiely come again!

Yelp
I finally got the chance to dine at Chiang Rai, parking can be a bit challenging because there is no parking lot only meter street parking, there is a bench and two table and chairs on the side for customers to wait till they open at 11:30 This restaurant is pretty small cozy and intimate setting the deco here is beautiful plus colorful. Our waitresses was very nice and friendly plus very patience explaining the dishes, we ordered the shrimp pad thai which was authentic and delicious, and the midnight chicken which was a lunch special that came with crispy & crunchy fried chicken on a bed of fried onions, jasmine rice, and one egg rolls w/ a very tasty sauce, this special was so good, and last the dessert was to die for was homemade white coconut Ice cream with warm fried bananas, the presentation was pretty. Chiang Rai restaurant made the Michelin Star list in 2022, 2023 and 2024 this is a hidden gem in Long Beach and I definitely will be back.

Yelp
Pros: 1. Amazing tofu khao soi noodle soup-- might be the best thing I ate this year 2. Fantastic, friendly, and fast service 3. Cute, colorful, and clean interior-- I felt like I was on vacation Cons: 1. Mango sticky rice was not vibing-- the syrup made it too sweet, missed the coconut cream that usually accompanies my favorite dessert. 2. Beef noodle soup broth was too sweet Parking is a bit difficult, all street parking and a few spaces in the back of the building.

Yelp
This is an amazing place that's got a long line for a good reason: great food! The steamed Branzino was $42 but it was definitely worth it. Not only it was presented beautifully (see video) and tasted amazing, we brought left over soup and bones and enjoyed more at home! Crab fried rice, served with generous amount of real crab meat, delicious! Roti with curry sauce and midnight chicken, served as a combo and I can have them all day, everyday! Service was friendly and prompt. Long lines moved fairly quickly, no more waiting at around 1:30 so we might come back for a late lunch. Seatings are pretty tight, not much room between tables, reminds me of restaurants in Paris, ha ha. Parking might be challenging, we were lucky to find a spot in the nearby neighborhood.

Yelp
Lots of seating inside and the vibes are pretty chill! Food was definitely good and I would go here again if I'm in the area. Tom Yum Shrimp Noodle (10/10): this was my first tom yum ever and it was definitely very good! you can really taste all the spices and there were plenty of shrimp, mushroom, and noodle. also, it was filling and i brought leftovers home, which my parents loved too. Oyster appetizer: it was really good and the oyster meat was actually really big! pretty expensive for 2 oysters ($7.50) but i guess that's what to expect in this economy. the fried shallots on top added a nice crunch and flavor. Not pictured but I got the thai tea and it was good! Your average thai tea but still hit the spot :) My boyfriend got the pineapple fried rice and the portions were huge! Very yummy too.

Yelp
First time coming to this restaurant and there is no dedicated parking. You'll have to go searching for parking on the street and walk. I ordered 3 dishes: - Chiang Rai Platter (fried shrimp, gyoza, cream cheese rangoons, and vegetables egg rolls) - Larb Salad w/ Chicken - Pad Kra Prow w/ Crispy Pork The fried shrimp from the platter was completely raw inside. The vegetable egg rolls tasted like the ones you get from an inexpensive takeout Chinese restaurant. The gyoza wasn't bad, but it felt like something you get from the grocery's store frozen food aisle. The rangoons were also slightly cold inside. The platter was likely cooked straight out of the freezer. They ended up not charging us the full $18, but instead charged us a discounted $10 for the platter. The crispy pork's fat wasn't fully rendered, so it was too chewy and not very good. If they cooked the pork for 1-2 more minutes, it would've been good. The sauce itself wasn't bad. The larb didn't have much flavor, but it was spicy. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all.

Yelp
We get why there's a line on the side of the building well before opening time now! We got there a few minutes before they opened and there was already a pretty long line of people. They eventually opened doors to fill all their tables and have everyone else put down their waitlist info for a text back once tables were ready. We waited another hour to be seated after that, so for sure will be there earlier next time! I really had to suppress my love for pad Thai because I heard their Khao Soi was the move and can definitely see the rave. The curry broth was thick, creamy, and flavorful and I loved it for the first few bites but got repetitive for me so I had to add in a healthy amount of pickled chilis and chili flakes to help cut through the richness. I really enjoyed it, but for sure had trouble finishing my own bowl. My bf got the curry, roti, fried chicken combo and my goodness... their roti is IT! Super crispy, flaky, and chewy. A little on the oily side but that's what napkins are for if you don't like too much of it. I really liked the sauce that the wings were served with and of course their curry is just delicious as their Khao Soi broth, but a little less hearty and rich. Our table got the Thai street oysters to share and I wanted 14 more on the spot! I usually like my oysters plain to enjoy the natural flavors, but that Thai green sauce and fried shallots on top was just addicting. I think we'll definitely have to come back, and I will be ordering the pad Thai to try next time along with the crispy pork belly plate with tamarind sauce that I had my eyes on!

Yelp
Wow! Not sure why I haven't tried this place. The food was fantastic! Very small (4? 5?) slots behind restaurant, otherwise street parking. Lunch w/ my MIL. VERY VERY busy midweek lunch. Menu seems a bit unclear since items seemed duplicated? Menu description was incomplete? Anyway what we did receive was all VERY good. 1) spring rolls w/shrimp- very good with peanut sauce on the side. 2) lunch special pad thai w/ chicken & an egg roll-MILs fav. Very good as well. 3) lunch special papaya salad w/shrimp-very good. We asked for mild for MIL to tolerate. 4) The star of the meal was the midnight chicken-3 very crispy tasty wings, side of roti with yellow curry to dip. The roti was crisp not greasy. The yellow curry was GOOD. Complex not too spicy, all the layered flavor...Oh my gosh. We should have just ordered 2 of these & skipped the other dishes? There were several dishes I hadn't seen at other Thai places (which have been many.) So that means we'll need to drag ourselves back to try the other menu items. Plus ask more questions to clarify what is included with our choices. It's a fairly small place. Interiors are brightly colored. Food was delivered fairly quick considering it was packed. Solid 4.5 stars

Yelp
Chiang Rai is a Michelin-recommended Thai restaurant specializing in Northern Thai cuisine. There is no private parking lot so you will have to park in the neighborhood close by. This restaurant is not big so it might not be ideal for big groups unless you come early and your entire party is here. We came here right when they opened at 12pm and waited an hour before we were seated. There was a long line waiting even before 12pm. Also, given how many people there are on the list, they might eventually turn people away. ROTI COMBO ($21.95) - this dish included fried chicken wings, roti, and yellow curry which was everything we wanted when we were looking at the starters. The roti was a bit oily and the yellow curry was a little watery but they were good together. The fried chicken wings were probably my favorite out of everything we ordered. 4.5/5 DRY KHAO SOI ($17.95) - I don't see a dry khao soi often so I wanted to try it. I liked the texture of the noodles but there wasn't as much flavor as there is with a normal khao soi with soup. 3.5/5 WAGYU THAI BOAT NOODLE SOUP ($20.95) - interestingly, this tasted less like a typical boat noodle soup and more like a pho. I tasted some of the richness of the broth from the blood but it wasn't as rich as others I've had. The beef was tender but the dish was okay. 3.5/5 PAD KEE MAO ($17.95) - we got this mild and it was slightly sweet and not very spicy at all. I would've liked this to be more spicy since that is its typical characteristic but it was still good. 4/5 For drinks we ordered the Thai ice tea ($6) and the Thai iced green tea ($6). Both were refreshing but we liked the Thai ice tea more. The cool thing is that if you don't finish it they will give you a plastic container to go.

Yelp
Living in Vegas and getting a fb post about this place and that we definitely needed to check out when we visit Long Beach. I ordered Panang Curry and it really hit the spot especially since I am recovering from pneumonia. Just enough spicy that it makes my temples sweat.

Yelp
I made the trek all the way from Pasadena to try this place and it was definitely worth the drive. We arrived right when they reopened at 4. We expected there to be a long line but it was very easy to get a table. It's very cute and casual inside and there's plenty of seating, though I imagine it would feel like a tight squeeze when it's busy. I ordered the khao ski with the soft shell crab. The portion size was large and came with a decent serving of crab. The flavors and textures were amazing. The broth is very rich and creamy. I've had khao soi in Thailand that wasn't as good as this one.

Yelp
I planned a business lunch here. I had planned to be the first one in line when they opened at 11:30. I was however it seems like you have to be in front of the door and rush inside like if it is Black Friday! Some family rushed in front of me and my company. Nonetheless we were able to find a table since there was no need to rush. The service is fast and friendly. The food is very tasty and it lives up to its hype. Things to note 1. The restaurant is very busy so you have to either get there early or be prepared to wait by 12 pm all tables are gone! 2. Keep in mind parking is hard I went on Thursday and street sweeping starts at 1:30 on Mira Mar!

Yelp
Super cute place when entering in and feel like you're in a different country with the aromas. Got the roti combo 5star The oysters 3 star ( oysters were too big, not my fave) Mango sticky rice was too sweet for me 3 star Beef tartare was 5 stars super yum The Chiang larb 3 star Service 5 star They were super duper busy around 6pm. Parking is mostly street parking and may be difficult to find during peak time.

Yelp
The food was the most disappointing aspect of my experience here, especially considering the high expectations I had for authentic Northern Thai cuisine and the restaurant's Michelin recognition. Driving 45 minutes to dine here felt like a waste of time in SoCal. If you're seeking authentic Northern Thai food, I'd recommend visiting Thai Town in Downtown LA. However, if you don't mind a more Americanized version, this place might suit you--though it is quite pricey. The biggest letdown was the Sai Oua ($15.95). At this price, I expected much more. Instead, it felt like a basic sausage without the distinct flavors of herbs or curry paste that define Sai Oua. Typically, Sai Oua has a slight yellow tint from the curry paste, but this one lacked that signature flavor, as you can see in my photo. Second was the Kha Nom Jeen Nam Ngew ($18.95). It was overly salty--likely due to an excess of fish sauce--and completely lacked the balance of flavors Nam Ngew should have. The dish should carry a mild sweetness and tanginess from tomatoes, but neither was present. While the meat was decent, the portion was quite small. The Khao Soi Noodles ($17.95) were better but still fell short. The curry and herb flavors were overshadowed by an overwhelming amount of coconut milk, which dominated the dish. The only highlight was the oysters (~$8 for two pieces). They were fresh, and the Thai seafood sauce was excellent--refreshing and perfectly balanced. The sticky rice, priced at $3.50, was okay but disappointingly small for the cost. Overall, the meal totaled nearly $70, which felt quite steep for the portion sizes and quality. On a positive note, the service was great. The staff were friendly, and the decor captured the essence of Northern Thailand beautifully. However, parking is a challenge, as only street parking is available, and wait times can exceed 30 minutes. Make sure to put your name on the iPad as soon as you arrive. Overall, I came here based on glowing Instagram reviews and the Michelin recognition, but I left disappointed. This will likely be my first and last visit. I hope they can improve and better represent authentic Northern Thai cuisine in the future.

Yelp
This has easily and undoubtedly become my favorite Thai restaurant in the Long Beach area. You can just TASTE the complex flavors and fresh ingredients in their khao soi -- bursting with umami! I love its casual, yet bustling vibe of a family-run restaurant which uses LOVE as their main ingredient! Do not skip the grilled oysters -- I wish I could order 12 of these for myself. I probably could, but I had to make room for the other dishes, of course. We also loved the crispy pork belly and roti appetizer. The only downside is the wait--which was about an hour long. But if you plan accordingly, put your name down, and wander elsewhere for an hour -- the wait goes by quick, and the meal is well worth the wait.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
We came with a party of 3. We went on the waitlist and told it'll be a 25 minute wait. It took about an hour to be sat. They kept sitting two tops before us and even walk ins. They had no sense of urgency for us or even kindness regarding the matter. I'm not sure how this is Michelin guided. The food was not spectacular. We ordered the eggplant and it was over cooked and soggy. We ordered the larb and it was dry with no flavor. We also ordered the pad Thai and it was just mediocre. The restaurant is small and looks cute and trendy but that's about it.

Andrew C.

Yelp
For the record we went here 2 nights in a row. Both nights amazing. Expect to wait because the restaurant isn't that big but also there usually is a large crowd of people waiting to get seated. After eating here I understand why the hype and will coming back for more. Food was on point. Presentation was great and the staff were so friendly.

Dennis D.

Yelp
This place is legit. We tried both style khao soi; soup and dry, and most of us liked the soup version because of its bold flavor. We also got crab fried rice that our kids inhaled and roti w/ chicken wings. The service was very professional and friendly. The dining room is very diverse and paid back. I find myself craving for khao soi from time to time, ever since we ate here.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I absolutely love their mango sticky rice. I ordered one to-go last night - was told a 10-15 minute wait but ended up waiting 30 minutes in the crowded tiny entry way with loud Asian man talking right into my face. Today I was eating my leftovers and found a hair embedded in the sticky rice. It was so good though so I still ate it, but may recommend wearing hair nets in the kitchen.
