NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"If drinking a kiwi-studded pisco sour or an old fashioned made with scotch and tamarind sound like a good way to spend a night, then Chica & The Don should be on your list. The Gramercy restaurant and cocktail bar is takes inspiration from all over Latin America, so you can eat things like chicharron, lomo saltado empanadas, and a short rib and maduro quesadilla underneath a plant-lined ceiling." - will hartman

My favorite item on the menu was the Short Rib y Maduro Quesadilla! Absolutely Delicious (10/10). It was fresh and cheesy, and the short rib was well seasoned. I would literally go back just to order that. I also had the Alitas de Pollo (Mango Habanero wings) which had a kick of spice in it. All the food was super fresh and delicious. The restaurant is beautiful. The bar is located in the front with a seating area. If you head towards the back, they have a more formal dining room area that gives lounge vibes. They also have a dance floor and a live band was playing around 8 pm. They do have a happy hour with 2 drinks. All of the drinks are pretty strong, but they have mocktails if you are more of a lightweight. My favorite drink was the Electrico. It was a spin on the rum and coke! The buzz button flower that comes with the drink is certainly an experience, and definitely gives the drink its name: Electric!

I always find it challenging to find a spot that has both amazing food and a fun and upscale atmosphere. Chica and the Don has changed that. NYC was missing a Latin spot that had this kind of feel. The ceviche is the best I’ve had, very fresh and great flavors. The arroz chaufa was beyond this world. Cooked to perfection, definitely a great amount of lobster and a perfect option to share with the table. One drink was something I’ve never experienced before. They give you a flower to eat before sipping and it makes your tongue feel numb which creates this really unique sensation. The live music and people dancing is the perfect way to end your evening. Must go to spot

Food was just fine, but not worth the prices to be honest. Much better restaurants at this price point. The short rib quesadilla was good, but could have used more balanced flavors as the short rib and greasy cheese over powered each other. The tostada was ok, I didn't taste any crab but it was good. The steak, intended to be shared was barely enough for 1 person, but it was flavored nicely. The fish was rich and balanced, also a good portion but disappointed it wasn't deboned for us by the waitstaff. For $75 it should have been. The arroz chaufa was the best thing I ate, great flavor, definitely meant to be shared. The salcipapa was tasty but not truly a salcipapa, just crumbles of chorizo with a mayo, ketchup dressing. The guac was fine, nothing special. The tostones and maduros were perfect. For cocktails, I had the Meloncito which I thought was too tart to enjoy any of the other ingredients, I switched to the Pina con Coco, added rum, and it was really good. Service was good but a little slow. The waitress and bus boy were very sweet. The vibe and decor of the place was very cool, good music and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The live music was cool.

This restaurant is amazing in all aspects! The food is delicious, the drinks are perfect, and the service is top tier. For food you must try the short rib and maduro quesadilla. I’ve never had anything like it, it was delicious! The electrico is yummy and the presentation is **chefs kiss**! Certainly put Chica and The Don on your list for your next night out. We will certainly be returning!
