The Best Thai Food in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Working out of this unassuming cart in a Woodstock gas station parking lot, chef Mana Duangphumma, along with co-owners Sureerat and Jaturong Piraban, serves street food-style barbecued pork and chicken on skewers alongside bubble teas, as well as fried chicken smothered in well-known curries, complexly flavored papaya or mushroom salads, and other inventive dishes. Take your food to the nearby Woodstock Park on a nice day for a picnic."

The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Woodstock Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Thai food is a crowded lane in Portland, but Thai cart Chick & Pig has become a serious draw since opening in the fall of 2021. Chick & Pig largely eschews noodle-based dishes for salads abundant with green papaya, mushrooms, and tofu, as well as skewers of fried or barbecued meat, like moo ping and kai tod. This is the ideal spot for heat-seekers; the spice level here skews higher than many other Thai restaurants in town. The cart currently operates in a Shell parking lot, so seating is limited." - Nathan Williams

If you’ve ever been to Thailand, you’ll appreciate this Thai restaurant! It’s so close to the authentic street food you find there. I love everything here, including the food, vibe, and service. I can’t resist trying the cucumber salad and the grilled pork. And you have to try the basil chicken—it's a must! You’re going to love it here!

Google
Got take out, $10 pad ga paw bowl is not bad but it’s just ground pork and rice so a bit flat. Friend’s fried chicken with massaman curry looks good maybe a bit oily but that’s all food outside home is like. Not super impressed by these 2 dishes, but I would give it another chance maybe try their moo ping.

Google
Delicious authentic Thai food! This place is the real deal. Charming food truck with reasonable prices and flavor packed dishes! I got #29 Garlic Pepper Pork and the Papaya Salad. The salad was fresh and crispy while the pork was tender and fragrant. Portions are a good size. Expect to pay $12-18 per dish.

My boyfriend and I love love love this place. Delicious food and service is always good. Great Thai iced tea! Every time we come it’s fire and never disappoints.

Google
This food is ridiculously delicious. Everything I have ordered has come out fresh and perfectly cooked. They offer an excellent variety of dishes and spice levels to fit different preferences. As a spice (heat) sensitive person, I appreciate that "no spice" is actually not hot but still flavorful. Can't wait to go back!

Google
So much natural flavor, spice, & variety! Kept eating my dishes past hunger - pure glutony. Would've had my fried chicken curry on-site so there was more crisp to the chicken (or ask for the sauce separate), but the heatwave had me scrambling. Brave people working today to feed hungry souls like myself! Highly recommend.

Google
Little food cart, big flavor. Literally across the street from two other Thai places, stopped here on a lark. Ordered the Pad See-Ew with chicken, medium heat and a Thai ice coffee - they were running a promotion that made the drink free. Noodles weren't clumpy, had good flavor, and appropriate spice level to request. Chicken was cooked well and juicy. Used Chinese broccoli for the green, which I appreciate more than standard broccoli most places in PDX use - not overcooked and still a little crunchy. Meal came with a slice of lime, which wasn't strictly necessary, but did give an excellent acid punch to the dish. Highly recommend, Chick&Pig is now one of my favorite Thai spots in town. Glad I gave it a shot.

Google
Who has been to Thailand would know this is the real real real real authentic Thai food. I finally found my real Thai street food. Mu Ping, the grilled pork with sticky rice. Pad Kaprao, stir-fried hot basil with pork and fried egg. Fried wontons with the homemade sauce. These are my favourite. They do it different from other Thai restaurants in Portland. This is what we actually eat in Thailand. I can eat their food everyday. The service is great. Friendly staff. I'd like to try some other food on their menu too. This is the ticket to Thailand! Please don't miss!!!

Yelp
I'm a student at Reed College, and only found out about this amazing food truck nearby due to club events! Chick & Pig has worked with the Asian Pacific Islander Student Union multiple times, and have been absolutely the kindest, most generous, and amazing people to work with ever! The food is always delicious and the portions are great. Through the club I've been able to try many different dishes from Chick & Pig, from their mushroom salad to their pad kra pao to their curries. I love how their menu has both meat and vegetarian options, as well as options that you may not often see on Thai menus (I mean, the mushroom salad is PHENOMENAL). Portions are great, service is amazing, and the food is delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Tried this place again, finally. This time I got papaya salad, sticky rice and pork skewers. I got the papaya salad 5 stars spicy, which was actually fairly close to Thai spicy. Loooved it. It was so tasty. And spicy! The pork skewers were good too. I shared them with my partner.

Yelp
Best Thai food in town. Without a doubt. I can't recommend the curry dishes enough. And they're very friendly.

Yelp
The best Thai street food we've ever had outside of Thailand!! My husband and I both very critical when it comes to Thai food because we have both lived in Thailand/southeast Asia. Chick and Pig NEVER disappoints. Yes, they're a humble food cart in the corner of a Shell gas station parking lot. They've got a sun awning and a couple of outdoor tables and chairs. If it's a warm day out and we close our eyes while eating, it truly reminds us of being home eating at a hawker center or street vendor! Even my very very picky Singaporean parents agreed that Chick and Pig is authentic! Our favorites are the pork belly and rice, fish cakes, and pad kee mow! Watch out for the spice- it really is Thai-spicy! The newest addition that we love is the pad see ew. We had ordered the noodles because we wanted to give something non-spicy to our 17 month old kid. It was so tasty that we ended up eating it for ourselves! This place is known for the grilled and bbq meats, but wow the flavor and texture of the pad see ew blew us away! So good!

Yelp
Where do I start? AMAZING food and AMAZING service. We've tried many things on the menu including: *papaya salad Thai *crispy papaya salad *fried chicken Penang curry sauce *fried wontons *potstickers *lemon grass chicken salad You literally cannot go wrong! It's a gem in the Woodstock area. A true must try! If I could give it 6 stars, I would :) There is some tables for outdoor seating. Thank you for always being awesome!

Yelp
I've had Chick and Pig on my radar and finally made it out. It shares a parking lot with a gas station which while not the best atmosphere there is ample parking. I talked with the woman in the truck and explained that this is my first time here and that my daughters don't enjoy spicy food. She made a recommendation for my girls and told me about other popular food they sell. I went with the fried chicken with curry sauce, grilled chicken (for my daughters) and fried wontons. While we waited (10-15 min) my girls ran around and played in the car. Both staff poked their heads out to say hi and wave at my girls. Got the food, got home and dug in. The grilled chicken was great- tender, juicy and well seasoned. My girls devoured it. The fried wontons were good. The fried chicken with curry was amazing! Tender, flavorful, mild spice- great! The portions were good sized, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was stellar. We'll be back!

Yelp
The food here is delicious, definitely would take you to Thai land if you just close your eyes and bite into their sticky chicken wings! 10/10 would recommend. The service is quick and fast, but there is also some place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Very cute.

Yelp
incredible. best Thai food I've had in portland and that is saying something! excellent flavor.

Yelp
I took my friend there. She and her husband used to own a Lao/Thai restaurant in Salem. She loved it. Thr next day, she went again with her husband who is Lao. He loved it so much. They said to keep it a secret!!! Lol. Medium spice is super hot. FYI.
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
Lovely people, fresh and very authentic Thai food. I came for the taro bubble tea and left with the Kana Moo Krob. The vegetables were cooked perfectly tender with crispy chicken, tossed in spices. It is hard to find tapioca in bubble tea that is just right and these guys hit it out of the park. For $5, it's unbeatable. Don't sleep on Chick and Pig!
google avatar

Yelp
Wanted to try some place new. We both had different versions of the chicken . Light and crispy. Really enjoyed.. loved the chicken. Haven't had chicken that good. lemon sauce was very tasty. I also had sweet potato fries that were hot and crispy. Excellent meal will be back

Yelp
Yes, Yes, Yes. This is a must stop if you're in the SE area. Some of the best Thai I've had since moving to Portland. We catered a lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Thank me later!

Marj J.

Yelp
I so wanted to like this food cart. The person who waited on us was charming and very helpful. The food, however, was bland and uninspired; some of the worst Thai food I have had in Portland. We tried the grilled pork, fried chicken with Penang curry sauce, and the pork larb and we didn't enjoy anything. Maybe it was a bad afternoon?
google avatar

Meg G.

Yelp
The food here is fantastic. You're not going to get bland, Americanized food - the spice levels are kicking and the flavor is excellent. Best kra pao I've had in a while.
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
Best Thai in SE! So lucky to have this near my house. Wings are probably my favorite. Can be a small wait for food; we always order online and pick up.
google avatar

Bubba Y.

Yelp
Recently opened in our neighborhood, Chick & Pig is becoming one of our favorite places. Although we have a few decent Thai options in the area, C&P's menu is just different enough that it's induced us to at least one return visit. We've tried a few of the options. Not sure why the Padhapao with Fried Egg is so popular - it's just a ground meat with rice and egg. But the Kai Tod salad is outstanding, flavors are very spot on. Careful with the heat option. I like hot but their "medium" is almost out of my range.

Yelp
This is a must stop! Loved all the food we tried here. The chicken was amazing, papaya salad was bomb and the boba was a nice touch.

Piper T.

Yelp
Authentic tasting Thai food! I'd definitely come back if I'm in town again! Highly recommend papaya salad and kaprow w crispy pork

Yelp
So delicious. So authentic. So SPICY. Welcome to flavor country. For such a tiny shop, Chick & Pig packs so much into their dishes. I've eaten: The papaya salad -- good, if standard. Crispy papaya salad -- phenomenal and like nothing I've ever had. The fried chicken with panang curry + a fried egg -- creamy, savory, spicy, sour, umami, I just can't stop eating it. Years ago I visited Thailand and Chick & Pig reminds me of that trip. In particular, a pro tip for the uninitiated American: this food can be off-the-charts hot. I usually like my food spicy -- I love spicy wings, I usually get medium or spicy at Thai restaurants, etc. Chick & Pig uses a 5-tiered scale and level 2 is my absolute max. If you're not into spicy food, I'd suggest 1 out of 5 at the very most. Maybe just 1/2 out of 5. Kop khun krap (thank you), Chick & Pig, for brining amazing Thai food to Woodstock!

Justin W.

Yelp
So dang good. Small local cart that puts out top quality items you've had elsewhere...just better.

Tony K.

Yelp
Food was ok. I ordered there special sauce and it did not look like the picture. Disappointed in that sauce!

Yelp
My husband and I went to Portland last week for a food trip. I'm a native Thai, and I can tell you that this is authentic Thai food. Everything was so tasty, especially fried wonton. The owner and the chef are very nice and super friendly. Great food, great people, and great price. I highly recommend this place!!
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
It is so nice to have this little cart in our Woodstock neighborhood. We tried their pork skewers w/sticky rice and a side of sauce. The pork was very good but a little on the sweet side. That is where the sauce came in very useful. It is a spiced version of Thai sweet chili sauce with a nice little kick. We will definitely be back to try more dishes.

Yelp
Adding to the positive comments here - I am on a quest for pad kra pao in Portland to help me relive our time in Thailand. Chick & Pig is now in my top list of "transport-me-back-to-Thailand" restaurants! I also love that they let me have the Thai spicy level. I didn't use a number just asked for Thai spicy. This was my first visit and now I need to try more things!
google avatar

Kalong W.

Yelp
Amazing new food truck right off Woodstock! Stopped by for lunch and had the fried chicken w Padang and rice, so flavorful with the perfect heat. Check them out!!
google avatar

Ryan W.

Yelp
Super fresh, flavorful, juicy. Comfort food or healthy meal. Chick & Pig does it all.

Kat A.

Yelp
OMG, so hot and so delicious. Even on mild my husband is sweating buckets but the panang chicken curry is too good to stop eating. The portions are quite large and prices super affordable. Our new favorite weekend lunch spot!
google avatar

Thanyawan C.

Yelp
Don't miss this place! The food is different from other Thai restaurants. They make it real Thai. My favourite is Pad Krapao, hot basil stir-fried with ground pork and some chilies-garlic, served with Thai style fried egg and rice. Muu Ping, the bbq pork skewers are great also, served with sticky rice. Som Tum, the papaya salad is very delicious! The staff are very friendly. I'm not kidding. The food is real! Whoever has been to Thailand would know.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. Authentic Thai food complete with dishes I haven't seen outside of Thailand. Great people and delicious food. I'll be hitting this place up regularly.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Super yummmy. A bit spicy but I like that. Great service. I wish they were open more.

Slack I.

Yelp
The service was very friendly. The food took 15 mins for me and my bf, we got to wait on a nice picnic table facing Woodstock. The portions are large which was great. The taste- amazing. So delicious and so much food. First time in months i felt my money was well spent on take out in Portland. Try it for yourself I can't recommend it enough. My new favorite place for Thai food.

Alex F.

Yelp
Delish! Nice spice and the grilled pork was very juicy. Only $11.50, so affordable as well.

Travis L.

Yelp
Overall such an amazing and authentic experience. We travel to Thailand and this has been such an amazing find. Best in the area! Expect to wait a little longer as they make everything from scratch, but soooooo worth it.

Kevin S.

Yelp
This was my first time at Chick & Pig, and I ordered the potstickers and fried chicken with lemon sauce. It was great! (Not very adventurous but wanted to play it somewhat safe on first visit..) I've been disappointed at other carts/restaurants at times when they had mostly 5 star reviews, but, so far at least, I agree that this one deserves it. I'll be back!
google avatar

Jake L.

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing and the customer service is on par the one little thing is that it is very greasy but it definitely is very tasty.

Paris H.

Yelp
The best! Incredible quality with every dish. I dream of their crispy papaya salad.
google avatar

Yelp
A delightful addition to the Woodstock neighborhood! Delicious, freshly made Thai street dishes served from a take out window. The key phrase here is "freshly made," which makes for a scrumptious meal but also means it takes a minute - or 20. Not an issue if you call in your order, or you can shop the nearby Ace/New Seasons, etc. while you wait.

Saeng Tsing P.

Yelp
Fantastic food, the pad kra pao was authentic, tasty, & spicy. My fiancé & I would definitely recommend as it reminds us of Thailand.

Michelle J.

Yelp
Delicious! I've had the fried chicken with sweet potato fries & the noodles. Both were amazing! Can't wait to try more of the menu. There's also one shady picnic table in front to enjoy food there.

Deborah C.

Yelp
Super good. The BBQ plate did not come with the chili sauce as pictured here, so make sure to order separately. The sauce really elevates the dish so it was a bit boring without it. We got takeout so there was no going back.

Lin C.

Yelp
Real Thai food. . Very delicious! We wish more those good quantity food cart pop up in our neighborhood.

Carol L.

Yelp
Delicious food Love the 5 spice level choices. Had lemongrass chicken salad and it was tasty and just right amount of spice for me (level 2!)

Joyous S.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and it's always been great! I especially like the salad set which is like a larb, spicy and sour. I also enjoy the barbecue set, grilled chicken skewers served with sticky rice. I haven't gotten to the papaya salad yet, but that's definitely on my list. My only complaint is that the don't have a sit down restaurant so I can eat right away (and expand the menu because I want to try more of their food!).

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Delicious. Would definitely go back. They had two large orders ahead of us - we're super apologetic for taking a little longer than estimated and, completely unnecessarily, added on a whole additional complimentary entree and extra sesame balls as a gesture.
