Soooo underrated! The food was high quality, came out piping hot, and everything was flavored perfectly. This was pretty close to food I ate in Kuala Lumpur! I definitely recommend these three dishes if you're new to Malaysian food: Char Kway Teow, Curry Mee (Singaporean Laksa), and the Nasi Lemak Bento. You can't go wrong with Hainan Chicken too. Sooo tender and simply delicious. My favorite parts of the restaurant are the friendly service, sauce bar, huge selection on the menu, and the herbal chicken broth ON TAP! So good!

Came here for lunch on a weekend with some friends after hearing about this place on social media. We have tried various Singapore/Malaysian restaurants in the Bay Area and wanted to see how this one fare. We were not disappointed. The Char Kway Tiao and egg Hor Fun were well fried and had good wok hey - something which is hard to find anywhere. The curry puff is very fluffy and the filling flavorful. We also had chicken rice and noodles. The restaurant is located in an old school Asian/Vietnamese strip mall (think traditional herbal medicine and sundry store) with plenty of parking. Order at front counter and seats are first come first serve. Overall a good choice if in area.

If you’re craving authentic Malaysian cuisine in the Bay Area, you need to check out Chicken Licious in San Jose! This place is such a gem, everything from the service to the flavors felt warm and homey. Right after ordering, the owner gave us a little soup cup to fill with warm chicken soup for free! It was the perfect cozy start. There are also two kinds of fruit-infused water, both super refreshing, especially with all the spicy dishes. The sauce bar deserves its own shoutout, there's so many options, and honestly every single one tasted great. My favorite was the spicy garlic sauce, it was absolute perfection with every dish. We ordered the Ayam Bakar meal, and it completely blew us away. The chicken was unbelievably juicy and packed with smoky, deep flavor. Even the rice was seasoned so well. Definitely a 10/10. The spicy Mee Goreng came loaded with shrimp and had the perfect kick and was another 10/10. We also tried the super hot popcorn chicken, which disappeared within minutes because it was that good. Super crispy, spicy, and addictive! To cool things down, we ended the meal with a pudding dessert, which balanced everything perfectly. The service was warm, the atmosphere was inviting, and the food truly felt like something made with love. Chicken Licious is going straight onto my go-to list for comfort food in San Jose. Highly recommend!

Order at kiosk, get your utensils and water. If you are eating in, you will be given bowls for the broth. We ordered egg rolls, both kinds. Also shared char kway teow and nasi lemak. We liked the egg rolls and noodles, fun textures. The nasi lemak is an acquired taste with plenty of ginger and lemon grass. Our chicken serving had two backs and not enough meat. The sauce was a tad oily.

It’s a small place I but the food is very good and staffs are very nice. Had the Hainan chicken, bento box very flavorful, my friends ordered the scrambled eggs chow fun both regular and vegetarian style and both were very good too. The crispy prawn taro roll was unique and good too. Definitely a place I’ll visit again tk try other dishes. They usually take order and payment from the app.

One of the few authentic Malaysian restaurants in Bay Area. Well-furnished and clean interior is an added bonus. Highly recommend the Char Kuay Teow. They also have Assam Laksa, which is difficult to find here. Ayam Penyet was also delicious. Penang Achar and the rice could be better, but overall would definitely eat here again! Free self-serve variety of sauces. Free Chicken Herbal Soup.

Yelp
Our party of 4 arrived at Chicken Licious around 12:30pm on a Saturday on a rainy day, and the place was a welcoming warm refuge from the outside. Parking was a little scarce in the lot but not too bad. You order at the front off of the menu above, and then can grab self serve chicken broth, a variety of sauces/condiments, water, utensils, napkins. The person working behind the counter, who I believe may be the owner, was also the person bringing the dishes out, and was very friendly. The chicken broth was rich, and almost tasted like pork broth to me, and lightly sweet from probably vegetables? Regardless, very welcome way to start the meal. We got everything to share: Roti Canai $11: this came out fresh and hot, with delicious flaky crispy layers. The sauce it came with had great umami, and when we expressed how much we liked it the owner offered to bring us more - this sauce went really well with everything else too! Nasi Lemak $18: this comes with both pork and chicken which were so tender and flavorful. The combination of the lemongrass rice, spicy sambal and pickles/salad was perfect, and it was a very large portion. Bak Kut Teh $20: this was very unique, and you can definitely smell the mix of herbs, but I didn't really taste it as strongly. The soup was surprisingly sweet, and while interesting it wasn't my personal favorite. There was a generous amount of meat inside, which was perfectly cooked but not quite fall off the bone. Asam Laksa Penang $19: this was my favorite dish, and so flavorful! I really enjoyed the brightness and freshness that the mint and pineapple brought to the dish, and it definitely did get a little spicy towards the end. It's very rich though, so I'm glad we had other dishes to switch between. Prawn Mee $18: this was a really nice, clean, prawn flavored both with really tender chicken and large prawns. I enjoyed the texture of having two types of noodles, and this worked perfectly as a palate cleanser between the much stronger fragrant flavors of the other dishes. Overall, I really enjoyed Chicken Licious! All of the dishes had their distinct, fragrant flavor profiles, and all the portions were very generous and perfect for sharing. You could tell that there's a community of regulars frequenting the restaurant, as people would come in and be warmly greeted by name.

Yelp
I had seen this place on my Instagram and bookmarked it previously; luckily this past weekend we were in the are and decided to give it a try. First of all, after purchasing something from them they offer you a chicken soup, which you can go to the sauce bar and customize it as you like. I ended up putting the ginger scallion sauce for hianese chicken and some sesame seed oil and it was delicious. When the food came out it was super hot temperature wise and we'd soon realize how spicy it actually was. The Singaporean laksa was quite flavorful and decent in portion size, the meat was a chicken leg which they'd broken in half and had good coconut and umami flavor 4/5 Next we tried the Penang Laksa, again very flavorful and you could taste the tamirand and see a good amount of fish pieces. We loved the sour and saltiness of the broth, which the owner proceeded to tell us it was his childhood breakfast. I thought it was delicious, but my fiance was crying and panting because of how spicy the dish was for her and she can tolerate medium spice, but loved the flavor in this dish as well. I want to say it's a step above medium if that's any inclination for anyone reading this, but I enjoyed it. 4.5/5* Lastly, we had the popcorn chicken, unfortunately this wasn't my favorite, the breading wasn't crunchy like we thought it'd be and the batter was a bit soft. Not sure quite sure why they threw a hand full of fried breading, not chicken pieces, in our tray with the popcorn chicken. 2/5* I'd also like to add their Thai tea is pretty good! Strong tea flavor and very creamy. When we stop by thanh son tofu we'll be back again! Customer service: 5/5* Cleanliness: 5/5* Food: 4/5* My review is of the food and nothing else though.

Yelp
3 Malaysians walked into Chickenlicious in San Jose, CA. They liked the asam laksa and curry puffs. They'll be back for those dishes. Asam laksa is from Penang and one in our party is from there. She said it was authentic and delicious. They also said the Singaporean laksa, smashed chicken and hainanese chicken rice wasn't authentic enough in their opinion. They could not recommend those dishes. The smashed chicken could use more flavor, and it was not really smashed. The parents even told this to the owner who was still nice and friendly. Family run business. They clean the tables, they cook, etc. Lots of tables for you to spread out and eat at. They opened around 2022.

Yelp
Chicken Licious is located super close to my work but didn't get to try it until now. Before they only offered chicken bentos, so I wasn't really drawn in but their menu expanded! It's located in the same shopping center as Lee's Supermarket. Parking can be very limited and extremely tight..combined with terrible drivers during busier hours. We went on a Sunday for lunch around 12:15pm and the restaurant was half full. I ordered with the cashier and she provided me with a number. It's open seating. Water, plastic utensils, sauces and complimentary chicken soup are self serve. The chicken soup was good, slightly sweet and a nice starter / palate cleanser in between dishes. We ordered.. ROTI CANAI (2) $11 -hot, flaky and crispy. Came with a curry dipping sauce which tasted kinda herbally to me. When it cooled down, it was kinda dry and got hard. 3/5* CRISPY PRAWN AND TARO ROLL (6)$12 -mini net style eggrolls filled with prawn and taro on a bed of fried noodles with a side of sweet chili sauce. Solid, nothing special but satisfies your eggroll / fried cravings. 4/5* SCRAMBLED EGG CHOW FUN $19 -pan fried flat wide rice noodles covered with gravy made with egg, soy sauce, oyster sauce and seafood broth. It came with bok choy, fried tofu and shell-on shrimp, which was super fresh. Delish! 5/5* CHAR KWAY TEOW $19 -wide rice noodles, shell-on shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, garlic and chinese sausage. The shrimp was super fresh. The dish had a nice char taste, but slightly light on flavor. It came with a side of their chili sauce which had a fermented shrimp taste. 4/5* By the time we left, the restaurant was packed. Service was friendly, they checked up on the tables and bus them when you're done. Would come again!

Yelp
We decided to take a drive to San Jose for the day. Stopped to grab a bite to eat at Chicken Licious for some Malaysian food. You can order through the kiosk, scan a QR code or by cashier. It's a no frills, fast food type of restaurant. People working here are friendly and helpful. ***OUR PICKS*** NASI LEMAK ~ Malaysian coconut milk rice, served with rendang chicken, sambal, fried crispy anchovies, hard-boiled egg, toasted peanuts, and cucumber. We found the rice texture was hard and it had tons of lemongrass. The chicken was hacked up, so shards of bones were in the sauce. You couldn't tell if you were eating lemongrass fiber or small fragments of chicken bones, which made it difficult to eat. If they had kept the chicken in bigger pieces, it would have been easier to eat and less troublesome. Lots of flavor, generous portions, and you get a variety of things in this dish. 3.5/5 HAINAN CHICKEN ~ Traditional steamed boneless thigh meat with skin, over chicken-flavored rice, garnished with nyonya acar (pickled). Served with homemade fresh dipping chili, ginger, garlic and soy sauce. I enjoyed the soft, tender, melt-in-your-mouth chicken. Very authentic in the way they prepared the chicken. Like the Nasi Lemak, the rice was hard. If the rice was softer, it would have been a 5-star dish! 4/5 SAUTEED GARLIC KANGKUNG BELACAN ~ Kangkung belacan is a popular Malaysian vegetable dish made with water spinach (kangkung), stir-fried with fermented shrimp paste (belacan), garlic, and chilies. It is often served as a side dish with steamed rice. This dish wasn't spicy, but flavorful from the shrimp paste and it was a good, healthy side dish. 4/5 They give you a cup for complimentary chicken herbal soup, which was very nice and comforting! So good when it's cold outside! I enjoyed their food and would come back again for the Hainan chicken or try something new on their menu, if we were in the area. I've been to Malaysia 4x and I found the food here is pretty authentic.

Yelp
A great Asian go to! We had the Char Kway Teow and Singapore Curry Laksa and it totally satisfied our south east Asia cravings! The noodles on the CKT could have been a little more thin, like in Penang, but the flavor was spot on! The curry laksa is a bit spicy... (not for me, but maybe for others) and can be ordered with deboned chicken. It's a small venue but perfect for lunch and the staff were super friendly and very helpful in selecting what to order. Take out is also a great option if you can't dine in, just be sure to take some with you!

Yelp
We saw high ratings for this family owned restaurant and we had to check it out for ourselves. There were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try. We ordered the Curry Puffs, Hainan Chicken, Laksa, and the Longan Soymilk Pudding. Our food came out in a timely manner. The Curry Puffs were crispy on the outside and fillings were tasty. The Hainan Chicken was one of the best we ever had. The chicken was very tender and juicy, which we really liked. The Laksa was very flavorful and the chicken was tender. The Longan Soymilk Pudding was light and it wasn't too sweet. The waiter ( Owner) stopped by couple times to check up on us. We chatted with him briefly. He was friendly and kind. They serve authentic Malaysian food for reasonable prices and they were generous with the portions. We'll be back to try their Longan Wintermelon Tea, Bak Kut Teh, and Char Kway Teow.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in a lively Asian plaza with lots of different shops and eateries, plus a dedicated parking lot -- definitely a convenient spot to explore. Walking in can feel a bit overwhelming. You order at the counter, and the menu is huge -- almost too many options to choose from! Thankfully there are plenty of pictures to help guide your decision. Once you order, you get a number, find a seat, and wait for your food to be brought out. Water, utensils, and even chicken herbal soup are self-serve. I came here for the first time after hearing a ton of rave reviews, but I walked away a bit disappointed. The food itself was good, but noticeably on the salty side. I was also surprised by the inconsistency in service. The owner or manager seemed very attentive to certain tables they knew, but ignored others -- including ours. It took multiple attempts to flag someone down for basic things like questions, take-out boxes, and even the check. The restaurant isn't very large and seems adequately staffed, so the lack of attention felt unnecessary. Another thing to note -- there's only one bathroom. If someone's using it, prepare to wait. I visited with friends who come here often, and even they mentioned the food quality varies from day to day. For example, on the day we went, the food was very salty and the crab seemed like it was defrosted vs fresh, with the meat just crumbling apart rather than holding shape. On a good day, I can see why regulars keep coming back. But based on this experience, I'm not sure it fully lived up to the hype. I might give it another try down the line, hoping to catch it on one of its better days.

Yelp
This is one of the best places to have Malaysian food in California. I will definitely come here again It's spicy, savory and has all the right flavors. They have tons of different type of sambal and everything is so good here. My friends from Singapore really liked this place. Everyone dining here were from south east asia, something rare to see in the bay area Pros Asam laksa is really authentic here with raw mangos on it Family run place with really fast service Everyone gets free chicken soup which is herbal and tasty. The menu has pictures so it's really easy to figure out what the food is about. Cons Nothing, apart from the rush of people who want to try this place out For people who cannot handle spice maybe get The strip mall is packed so packing might be a bit of a hassle but it's worth it when you eat the food here.

Yelp
4.5/5 The Char Kway Teou was the standout dish! Flat noodles are my go-to wherever it's offered so it was an easy choice for me. I only wish they offered it with chicken too, in addition to shrimp. The side curry with the Roti Canai was one of the best I've had, usually amongst the ones I've had, it tends to be a bit more watery. This was a bit thick, with caramelized onions. The Nasi Lemak was also pretty authentic. I'm only not giving 5 stars because the chicken here was too boney for me. It had more bones than actual chicken so it made it a bit tough to enjoy the chicken. The gravy was tasty though. Definitely see myself coming back to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
As lovers of Malaysian cuisine, we were saddened when Langkawi in San Mateo closed. So you can only imagine our excitement when we found Chicken Licious, opened by Langkawi's owner's sons! We went there for lunch before an afternoon performance. The restaurant is located in a plaza with a decent-sized parking lot. It's a casual spot; while not large, the restaurant has enough tables to accommodate medium to large parties if you arrive early or during off-peak hours. You order at the counter, and they'll bring the food to your table. The food is authentic; they don't shy away from the heat! I remember a conversation with Langkawi's owner back then where he said he had to tone down the bold flavors because general clientele didn't like them. I'm happy that this next generation of the restaurant is able to true to Malaysian roots. We enjoyed everything, especially the nasi lemak and kang kung. As others have mentioned, the chicken broth is a gem; so comforting! I also liked their drinks; grab them from the fridge and pay at the register. We met one of the owners, and we loved how warm he was to us, and how passionate he was about the food. It truly reminds me of Malaysia, where the people are as warm as the weather! ;)

Yelp
Deeeeeeeelicious. We had the crispy shrimp and crab rolls, the fried prawns and the Licious fried rice. Everything was outstanding. From the crispy rolls, to the succulent, well seasoned prawns, to the savory fried rice with plenty of tasty bits of sausage dotted throughout. So good that our table neighbors even asked about the prawns for next time and mentioned that they drive all the way down from San Francisco to dine here. Really, really, really good and nice folks working here as well. I can't wait to go back and try additional dishes.

Yelp
The food here is delicious, so flavorful! I shared a Nasi Lemak, Char Kway Teow, and the Curry Laksa between three people, and we were stuffed after devouring the food. Maybe the char kway teow was my favorite? They were all really good so hard to decide. And washing it down with chicken herbal broth on tap during and after the meal is the cherry on top. The staff here is very friendly and the store has a good ambiance and a bathroom too! Would definitely come back here. Seems like an underrated gem

Yelp
4.5 STARS I was debating rounding up or down so I wanted to visit Chicken Licious a second time (first visit in July). Then, they blew up on TikTok. Welp not happening now, at least not for the next 6 months. Opening in 2022, Chicken Liicous is from two brothers who grew up working at their parent's Malaysian resto in San Mateo (Langkawi Malaysian Island). M E N U Traditional Malaysian Food: Soup, noodles, rice, and bentos. Party trays available. FYI, their Chili Crab is $85. Fast-casual service. Order at the counter and they'll bring your food to you. Self-serve water, condiments, and chicken broth. F O O D * Karipap 咖喱角: Curry Puffs w/ chicken filling (3pc - $12): https://tinyurl.com/bdfz4eb4 Solid starter served fresh out of the fryer, shatteringly crispy and flaky with a savory, well-seasoned chicken filling. * Bak Kut Teh 肉骨茶: Pork Rib Soup ($20): https://tinyurl.com/38t8j65t With origins from Chinese immigrants, Bak Kuh Teh has become a national dish in Malaysia for its nourishing, restorative properties. Fork tender pork ribs, pork belly, and mushrooms simmered in a medicinal herbal broth. Because of its strong flavor it may not be everyone's jam. * Hainan Chicken 海南鸡饭 w/ boneless chicken thigh, chicken rice, pickled veggies, peanuts ($15): https://tinyurl.com/zt37zwu8 Perfectly poached free-range chicken (dark meat), moist and tender with a smooth delicate skin. Served boneless over a bed of sweet soy sauce. The rice was a little dry and not as flavorful but easily fixed with condiments. Served with cabbage salad and fresh cucumbers. LOVE that they have self-serve condiment bar and chicken broth. The broth was hot and comforting with a clean chicken flavor. A mandatory condiment for hainan chicken, the ginger and scallion sauce seemed past its prime. The ginger was browning with no zesty spice. Bummer. * Char Kway Teow 炒粿條: Stir-fried Noodles w/ shrimp, Chinese sausage, eggs ($18): https://tinyurl.com/3mwj27jd Our fav dish, the char kway teow had great savory, smoky wei hei flavor with soft, chewy noodles, firm shrimp, scrambled eggs, and savory chinese sausage. The green onions and bean sprouts provided a fresh crisp contrast to the flat rice noodles. * Pandan Rice ($3) Liked this more than the chicken rice, the pandan gave the rice a pretty hue and pleasant earthy, coconut flavor. S E R V I C E Warm and friendly service, seems like the owners' parents run the FOH. We arrived right when they opened on a Saturday so food service was prompt. A M B I A N C E Modern, casual with 8-9 tables. P A R K I N G Tight parking in the plaza during peak hours. Overall, there's not a strong presence of Malaysian restos in the bay so I can see why Chicken Licious has become so popular esp after blowing up on TT. 4.5 stars rounded up for a family-owned resto.

Yelp
10/10 Nasi lemak. They haven't Americanized the food, which is refreshing. The place is pretty self serve. But the ppl at the reception area are attentive if anything is needed. I haven't tried everything so this review is based on one dish I tried. Pretty clean inside.

Yelp
Had an awesome experiencing dining here with friends on a Wednesday evening around 6 pm. There's lots of tight parking nearby and there's a Lee's Supermarket that you can park at if you have a bigger car. It's about a 3 minute walking distance. Chicken Licious is an underrated spot! It was empty when we arrived but soon got busy for the dinner rush. They have an aesthetic table with a floral wall! Very cute for photos or if you're a food blogger. The staff member was super helpful with our orders as we had someone who was allergic to shrimp and pineapple. So they were mindful to either remove or separate those items from the dish. I ordered the hainan chicken, and it was a delicious bento box. Lovely assortment of salad, rice, sauces, and chicken. I loved how they have chicken broth on tap. It's a soup that's been cooked over 8 hours. Awesome experience and would come here again to try a few more dishes.

Yelp
The first dish was their Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang. The rendang was tender, aromatic, and packed with spices and you could tell it had been slow-cooked to perfection. The rice was fragrant and fluffy, and it came with all the classic sides: crunchy peanuts, hard-boiled egg slices, sambal with cucumber, and a refreshing salad that added a nice contrast to the rich curry. Every bite felt well thought out and true to traditional flavors. The second dish was the Char Kway Teow with prawns, and it was just as amazing. I opted out the sausage since I don't like it. The noodles were smoky and flavorful, with that signature "wok hei" taste you only get from a really hot wok. The prawns were plump and juicy, and the bean sprouts added a perfect crunch. The portion size was generous too! Both dishes came beautifully packed, fresh, and warm. You can really taste the care and authenticity in their cooking.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon as a group of 5. The main seating area didn't have big enough tables for 5 people, so they gave us the large circular table in the corner of the room. We shared a Roti Canai and I ordered a Hainan Ji Bento for myself. By itself, the roti canai was ok but the curry-like sauce enhances it to a completely different level and makes it so savory. The Hainan Ji was some of the best I've had. I would describe the texture something like chicken sashimi, on the plus side it's also boneless. The flavor of the Hainan Ji also made it into the rice, so you can tell this place knows how to prepare it. There was much more chicken than I expected, and the side salad served as a nice palate cleanser.

Yelp
I forgot who recommended this place to me but I was impressed. Ran by a super friendly family from Southeast Asia, you already know it will be authentic. We got a handful of items for the two of us and the food was great, though the clams were a bit on the pricier side. Everything had a kick so be ready for the spicy sh... later. The food did take a while to come out but I know it's because they're still new so hopefully they can work out the kinks soon. Will return to try other things on the menu soon.

Yelp
Pumped to have a Malaysian spot in the east SJ area! Tried the char kway teow, kangkung, and nasi lemak. The chicken curry in the nasi lemak was a bit oily but very flavorful, portion sizes were quite solid, I wish the food was a bit more spicy, and the kangkung was the highlight for me! Thought the food was a little bit on the pricier side for a restaurant where you order at the counter then seat yourself, but the quality and quantity of food did make up for this. Clean, spacious seating area and very quick service!

Yelp
ordered the fried chicken bento, char kway teo, roti, and singaporean chili sauce clams and my favorites were the char kway teo and roti! the fried chicken was good as well and the clams were salty/ meant to be eaten with rice on the side the workers were very nice and apologized a lot for the wait (busy on sunday lunch) other notes: free soup offered, parking lot is crowded/small, online order available

Yelp
This place is casual. You order at the counter and find a seat. There is a sauce bar and complimentary soup. I ordered the Nasi Lemak and Tom Yam King seafood noodle soup. The flavors were bold and spicy overall. The Nasi Lemak was good, but I do not recommend the Tom Yam Kung. The squid and shrimp were overcooked and the broth contained too many inedible bits that made it hard to enjoy.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday around 1pm and the restaurant was packed! We waited for over 30 min to place our order and another 30 to wait for the food. We placed a togo order since we live nearby. We got - Ayam Penyet "印尼炸鸡" Smashed Fried Chicken (6/10) too salty - Nasi Lemak 辣死你妈 (9/10) very flavorful - Roti Canai 印度煎饼 / 2 pcs (10/10) The portions are decently large and we had plenty of leftovers. Out of everything I have tried, I really enjoyed the Roti Canai and would def come back for this. The roti was flaky and soft, and the dip was extremely flavorful!

Yelp
Read about this unassuming place serving good Malaysian food and was craving for Laksa so decided to brave 101 traffic to give this place a try. And my was that an amazing decision. The person at the counter (who i presume is the owner) asked me if I had questions or what I was looking for. I asked him about nasi Goreng and he mentioned he had two varieties of it. But since wife wasn't feeling like having rice, she went for the mee goreng. I asked about the difference between Singapore Laksa and the Penang Laksa. He explained them it and I decided to go for the Singaporean Laksa. The Singaporean Laksa was 10/10 in presentation. Fish balls, sliced eggs, and nice juicy piece of skin on chicken as well as a flavorful hot broth with thick yellow noodles. Very comforting dish with plenty of spicy kick and amazing flavor. Just what I came in for. The Nasi Goreng reminded me of the excellent ones I had in Bali in the good resorts. The noodles were covered in plenty of umami spice paste and I could taste the aromatics. There was 4/5 pieces of large sized jumbo prawns and Bokchoy. Overall an amazing treat. Needless to say I will be back to try the other items specially the crab.

Yelp
Ordered online for pickup on a Sunday before they closed. Super seamless ordering and pickup process. Generous portions and extremely delicious! Truly an authentic Malaysian restaurant that I'm excited about! Nasi Lemak - there's a bit of a kick to this so beware, and everything was so flavorful. The coconut milk rice had a nice coconutty taste, rendeng was superb. Ahh overall loved this! Hainan Chicken -pretty standard hainan chicken rice, super delicious as well! They also provided a shrimp chip which was soooo good. I'd highly recommend any malaysian food lovers to try this place out. I can't wait to try their other offerings and dine in!

Yelp
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a phenomenal experience, just like in Southeast Asia! Despite the name being Chicken Licious, I felt the strength of their food is in their Malaysian dishes. Chicken Licious is located inside a strip mall on Senter Rd. Parking is challenging in the strip mall or on nearby residential streets. The inside of the restaurant is warm with a fan, just like in Malaysia. Ordering is done with the staff or on the tablet at the counter. They take credit cards. There is a sauce bar along with a self serve chicken broth station next to the register. The menu behind the counter reminds me of a hawker stall. Started off with the roti and it was decent. The roti was mysteriously a perfect circle. Having had tons of rotis in SE Asia, most if not all of the rotis come in a odd-shape due to being hand made... The curry dipping sauce was tasty. The char kwai tiu was phenomenal. Plenty of wok hei and lots of premium ingredients such as decent sized shrimp. Loved how the eggs were blended into the stir fry. Ordered a side of poached chicken and it was perfect. Poached to a perfect medium and served inside a bed of soy sauce. The kangkong belachan was decent. Flavoring was decent and much better than most renditions in the US. The curry puffs were also quite tasty and had some meat filing, just like the ones I had in SE Asia. Staff seems to all be from the same family. They were all helpful and cordial. ~$38/head after tax and gratuity for lunch.

Yelp
Heard about this place through IG. Ordered 3 items but definitely my favorite from all 3 would be the chili crab. The chili crab were sooo good especially the sauce it's cook with. I originally didn't expect that it'll be the whole crab when I ordered but seeing the price, it made all sense. It's definitely not an everyday type of food to order especially with how much it sells for (I think it's market price) but definitely worth to try when you're able to. Maybe they can sell something similar for cheaper price. The Imperial Tofu is sooo good too especially the housemade bean curd. Very delicious. Not a fan of the abalone but it didn't ruin the dish for me as I enjoyed the rest of it anyways. The other dish reminded me of pad see eew. It didn't really have a flavor by itself unless you add the shrimp paste sauce it comes with separately. Not a fan of the sauce, so I ate it as it is. The service can definitely be improved on. We're aware that we need to wait for some time (like 20 mins) but we're sure that we waited longer than that. But when the food is ready they all came pretty much at the same time. So maybe next time, if the other dishes takes a little longer, serve at least one of the dishes first or something. This restaurant is really a casual dining. It's like any ordinary restaurant in an Asian plaza. But the place is neat and clean in the inside.

Yelp
I grew up eating South East Asian cuisine and always find myself craving it. I knew I had to swing by and try this place out when I was in town. I stopped in on an early Saturday afternoon, the place was packed, and all the tables were full. I had to wait a bit until a table was available to order. I ordered the ayam penyet, the chicken was well seasoned. The skin was golden and crispy, and the meat succulent. All the accoutrements were flavorful and complimented the dish. Don't forget to use the house made sauces too! I had to try the char way teow. It was served atop a banana leaf. Another dish packed with umami flavor, and wasn't too greasy, and definitely did not disappoint. Chicken Licious was definitely worth the wait for its authentic flavors and good portion sizes. I'll definitely be a return customer.

Yelp
After seeing so many reviews on social media being the most authentic Malaysian restaurant in San Jose, of course we had to try it. Chickenlicious started off by two chefs, Kevin and his brother they had chicken rice bento in the beginning of their career. They still sell chicken bento up to this point, and they are so delicious! You would find chicken that is juicy, moist, soaked with light soy sauce, with very tasty hainan rice. The second dish I rave about this place is their Char Kwey Tiaw. This is unbelievably delicious. First because they cooked it with pork lard, second, they use fresh ingredients to make this dish. I would definitely re-order this CKT for future visits. Third dish I would order for family and friends sharing is their Singaporean Chili Crab. They used Dungeness Crab showered with sweet, and spicy sauce, with eggs simmered on it. It was delicious! Fourth dish I would have it again is their Assam Penang Laksa. I believe they are the only restaurant that makes this dish. This is one of the best laksa I ever had. The broth tastes seafoody, and fresh at the same time since they use pineapple to freshen and balance the seafood out. Amazing dish! Restaurant is very clean, perfect for gatherings, even for takeout.

Yelp
Finally caved and checked out Chicken Licious after hearing so much about their ckt. And yup, it lives up to the hype. Portion's generous for the price, and they actually have pork lard in it (!!), which is super rare here but so common (and flavorful) back in Malaysia. Wok hei is on point too. Got tempted to try something else and went for the asam laksa after. Wow, easily the most authentic one we've had in the area. The broth is so rich and flavorful, packed with that perfect tangy-spicy kick. And it comes with fried beancurd too?? Omg I loved it. I'd honestly buy a whole pack of those if they sold them on the side. Total comfort food, 10/10. Food took a bit of time to come out, but honestly worth the wait. Plus, the uncles serving us were so friendly and kept checking in to make sure everything tasted good. Will definitely be back! Shared how good this place is on my IG, and Malaysian friends have been asking where the spot is. Good food deserved to be shared.

Yelp
Great food and an expanded menu! Got to come back for some of the noodles too. The place was pretty busy today with many south East Asian patrons. Nice to hear the mix of languages so you know the food is authentic. The place is more colorful now with the Malaysian flag up front. The two brothers were serving today, so it was nice to see the full family affair! Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
It's really 3.5 stars restaurant. I hope they will do well since there aren't many Malaysian restaurants in the South Bay. Food: - Char kway kak 炒粿角 3.5/5 - Ayam Penyet "印尼炸鸡" Smashed Fried Chicken 4/5 - Curry Mee 新加坡叻沙 Singapore Laksa 3/5 it's not Laksa soup but thick curry sauce Service: We ordered in the iPad and pay before you sit down. The lady at the front did not ask if we had any questions while we were debating what the dishes were. The older man was very friendly and helpful. They brought the dishes over at various times. They had a self service sauce, water, and broth area. Ambiance - I don't really like eating with plastic wear if dining in. We have enough micro plastics in our body and in the landfill. Unfortunately, I don't it's worth the 30 minutes drive.

Yelp
Self-serve complimentary soup, water, and disposable utensils (fork, spoon, knife, chopsticks) They provide real plates. Roti - It was fine but I have had better. Hainan Chicken - The chicken was good but the rice was underdone. Char Kway Teow - This was above average. Restroom is very clean and thoughtful, even offer mouthwash and hand lotion

Yelp
Ordered the char kway teow. Very satisfying and great wok hei flavor in this dish. Service was friendly and very much enjoyed the self serve chicken broth. Will be coming back to try more of their dishes:)

Yelp
Chicken Licious has blown up on social media with food vloggers advertising their famous Malayasian dishes like their Char kway teo and chili crab. The question is.. is there some truth to behind whats being promoted or is it merely just a paid advertisement? Well we had to see for ourselves. Located on Senter in an older, more run down plaza if San Jose, Chicken Licious is situated among various Vietnamese restaurants along with a Lee's Supermarket. If you're not familiar with this area or plaza in general, it is quite old and full of sketchy people. There are a lot of homeless people hanging around soliciting money. I would suggest only coming here during daytime and daytime only. That shouldn't be a problem since this place closes pretty early around 7 pm and last call being 6:30 pm. *Char kway teo - This dish is not commonly found in the Bay so of course, I had to try it. The noodles have that wok hay flavor with bits of charred lap cheong and shrimp. I would prefer the shrimp to be peeled or deep fried to oblivion so that the skin is crispy. No one wants to peel a shrimp in the middle of their meal. Flavors are all on point with a few bites that are a bit too salty with the sausage. Just needs some chili and call it a day! *Singaporean Laksa - The broth is creamy, rich, with a kick of spice. The noodles are eggy, thick, and substantial. This isn't the traditional noodle type used in laksa but it is my preferred noodle so no complaints from me. The meat was delicious and all around a bowl of comfort. *Roti - This is by far, hands down the best roti I have tried in the States. Not too greasy, but each bite you get the fluffy soft bread. The texture is airy yet full of flakey layers. The curry itself is very forward in spices and dimensional flavors. I would prefer a more mild creamy tasting curry in my opinion. I would probably buy the roti and find a different curry to dip it in. *Curry puff- These were delicious. Every bite took me back to being in Singapore. The pastry crust was buttery, flakey, a bit crumbly but so delicious. The curry filling was strong on the curry flavor and filled with bits of meat. A nice balance of flavors and filling ratio. I would get this again. *Mouthwatering chicken- the chicken was tender, soft, and moist. The sauce was a bit punchy, overwhelming in flavor especially when drenched on the chicken. I did enjoy it though. I thought it was weird that it came out in a disposable box rather than a plate. When you mix and match disposable dishes to non-disposable, i feel like it cheapens the meal. The restaurant is much cleaner than I expected. The interior is quite charming despite outside being a bit rougher. The self serve water and chicken broth was an excellent touch. I also loved the sauces pre packed and available to help yourself. In terms of food quality, I have no notes. The food is authentic, served fresh, and thoughtfully crafted. This place feels like you've literally stepped back into Malaysia without the high temperatures and humidity. You can't find food like this anywhere in the Bay Area so if you're craving Malaysian food, come here!

Yelp
I came here for dinner one evening and ordered the Char Kway Teow 炒粿條 and Ayam Penyet "印尼炸鸡" - Smashed fried chicken. The Char Kway Teow was recommended by the staff, it's stir fried noodles with shrimp, chinese sausage, bean sprouts and chives. This was a little too greasy and not much wok hay. The ayam penyet came with a large piece of fried chicken (drumstick and thigh). Chicken didn't have much flavor but the skin was fried to crispy, it was reasonably moist. It had sauce on the side with pickled veggies, salad, coconut rice with chicken fat bits. You needed a sauce for the chicken otherwise no flavor. It's nice that they do have a sauce bar where you can pick your sauces. They also provide some for your order. Food came out quickly after ordering and there is parking but this lot can be quite busy. I'll definitely come back to try their other dishes since I don't see or hear much about Malaysian food such as trying their laksa and nasi lemak.

Yelp
We came here on a Wed afternoon craving chicken rice after the lunch rush so the place was totally empty and we were able to put in our order immediately. The restaurant itself is located in an old strip mall. Very clean and the sauce bar was a nice touch. The free soup that comes with every order was warm and a little sweet and herbal. Not my favorite. The Hainan chicken came out about 15 minutes after we ordered - which felt like a long time. Maybe a good sign that everything would be fresh and awesome? Not really... The chicken was super moist but totally flavorless. The soy based sauce it was swimming in was totally bland as well. All of the sauces from the sauce bar seemed really diluted in flavor as well. The rice came out dry. Probably the best thing in the plate was the pickled cabbage- it was bright and crunchy with great seasoning. The problem is you get just a few pieces of this - the rest of the "salad" is just undressed greens. Overall pretty disappointed with this place. Didn't stand out from any of the other chicken and rice places that have popped up.

Yelp
Best Char Kueh Teow in the Bay Area. Tried many versions of CKT from Georgetown in Penang to Chinatown in Manhattan. Chickenlicious is at the top of the list. Wok hay, flavor, and liao (ingredients) exceeded expectations. Texture was just right, which can be challenging for this type of flat rice noodle. Shrimp was very fresh and cooked just right. Just missing the cockles. Roti Canai was excellent. Usually go to the morning market in PJ old town to buy from the mamak stall. The curry sauce at chickenlicious was high quality, and is typically what I use to judge my roti in the US. However, the bread itself was way out of the leagues of any of the roti Canai I've had outside of Malaysia. It did not taste frozen. Texture was flakey, crispy, and soft all at the same time. This brought me back to breakfast time at my grandparents house in PJ. Nostalgic. My family also tried the mee goreng, nasi lemak, chicken rice, and Penang laksa (with ipoh influence). My mom said the laksa was even better the next day, and she liked that it came with a generous helping of tofu skin to absorb the soup. Chickenlicious also offers complimentary chicken broth at the counter, for digestion. This is the kind of restaurant you go to when you feel homesick, to feel closer to a place 8,477 miles away.

Yelp
3.5 stars but rounding up! If you're coming here for anything, make sure it's the Hainan Chicken. The rice itself was okay, but I was obsessed with the chicken itself lol. It was so good! We were looking for a Malaysian spot to try out in SJ and landed on Chicken Licious. They're located on Senter Market in a veeery busy plaza. The parking lot can be rather tight and it could be difficult to find a spot to park if you're coming during a busy hour. We ended up ordering a few things to share: + Hainan Chicken (4/5): I LOOOVED the chicken! The chicken was super moist and flavorful. It reminded me of Singapore! The rice was just okay, as were the side sauces it came with. + Nasi Lemak (2.5/5): I felt like the pieces of meat that we were given were mostly bones. The sambal didn't quite hit for me either, I was hoping that they'd provide more anchovies on the side too. + Roti Canai (3.5/5): Obsessed with the roti but the sauce tasted rather bland :( + Laksa Penang (2.5/5): Also another miss for us - I thought it was good initially, but as we continued eating the lack of broth started to make the noodles all congealed and mushy. I'd pass on this next time! The pros: They serve free soup here and it's pretty good! They keep it pretty clean and service is friendly, too. The downsides: they use a lot of plastic utensils and dishes, which can be convenient if you don't finish your meal. However, it just felt a bit wasteful - it'd be great if they were a bit more sustainable.

Yelp
This place is amazing, and the flavors brought me back to Singapore. You walk in and order from a kiosk but the guy behind the counter, ended up taking our order. Gave us the complimentary cup for the broth and had a seat after we ordered. Curry Mee 5/5 = The flavors are so rich and deep, that it's nothing like I've had here in the states. You can put the curry broth on anything, and it will taste good. When you get towards the end, it's a bit salty but I'm coming back and ordered this every time. Belachan Kang Kung - 4/5 Vietnamese, and Filipino people have their own take on this dish. This one had little shrimps in it that made it extra salty. So I would eat this with a bowl of rice. It's good but a bit on the salty side, which is the flavor profile. Roti - 5/5 The roti came out super hot, so hot that you could barely touch it. The curry sauce is a totally different flavor profile than the Curry Mee. It's a bit pricey with only 2 in an order but excellent in flavor. Mee Goreng - 4/5 - Good flavors, they put some herbs in there that you normally don't see in the US. Great spot, unique flavors. Now I do not have to drive to Fremont to get a Malaysian taste.

Yelp
What an amazing hidden gem! We came across Chicken Licious when we were grocery shopping, and we are so happy we did. First things first, the parking lot is a little tight and crowded, but the food is worth it! We had the Hainan chicken, smashed fried chicken, kangkung belacan, and longan winter melon tea. The service was very friendly! The waiter was kind, checked on what spice levels we like, and was just a very likable person. The salad and veggies had a little kick. And the house made sauces had some kick, but were delicious. We had an amazing lunch and cannot wait to get back to try more dishes.

Yelp
You really can't go wrong with much here: the almost everything I've tried is delicious. The Singaporean Laksa, Popcorn chicken, and the Nasi Lemak are coconut-infused and very, very fragrant and flavorful. I would probably pass on the Char Kway Teow, which didn't have much seasoning or taste to it.

Yelp
This is specifically for the prawn mee. The broth to me felt 1-dimensional. It predominantly tasted like that of fried dried shrimp made into a broth. The noodles/shrimp were bland. The chicken was very soft though.

Yelp
What a delightful find! Tucked away amongst the shops, I discovered this wonderful 3-year-old in a business Malaysian restaurant. The owner was incredibly welcoming and helpful. I loved the self-serve beef broth station, the variety of chili sauces, and the refreshing beverage options like Thai tea. I opted for the smashed chicken and nasi lemak, which were delicious! The chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful. I couldn't help but notice the Chili Crab being served to other diners - it looked absolutely mouthwatering! I'll definitely be back to try it soon. The restaurant itself was very clean, which I always appreciate. GIVE A TRY!

Yelp
The food is yummy, and this is self service restaurant. After ordering, you will get the bowl for hot chicken soup and water by yourself.

Yelp
Don't let the name confuse you! This isn't a fried chicken place haha, I had to explain this to my friends. Since I have Singaporean family, I get super excited when I hear of Singaporean food in the bay! Singaporean restaurants are far and between, and often times the quality isn't nearly as good as the real thing in SG. Chicken Licious has a simplified menu of ~10 dishes with pictures (reminiscent of hawker center menus), making ordering nice and easy. Some dishes do come in bento boxes, making this place a convenient place to order takeout. I do like that they had self service seasoning (eg sambal sauce), water, and chicken soup bar. We were able to sit a larger group of ~9 people here at one big table. -- Food -- I had very high expectations and while the food was good and delicious, it wasn't what I was expecting. Perhaps some of these difference can be explained via a Malaysian v Singaporean cooking approach. The laksa tasted like it was missing something, possibly laksa leaves themselves. The Hainanese Chicken also was unexpected -- it came pre-drenched in soy sauce, which was a first for me and disappointing. I love the simplicity of the juicy chicken with the ginger x scallion x shallots paste, but the soy sauce was very overpowering. Char Kway Teow was good! They also had dishes that are Indonesian and they were delicious. I just wish they had more Singaporean dishes that I miss and crave. All in all, I do like this place for the super friendly service we received and the delicious food (my friend liked it! I just expected something different).
