The experience I had at the hospital was incredible! My labor was super smooth, and the nurses and doctors were super-trained. They were so sweet and kind in their treatment. The experience I had with my daughter at that hospital was priceless. It was the best hospital there could be. My daughter was treated with love at all times. In intensive care, they took excellent care of her. The training they gave us as parents was excellent. Every specialist and surgeon at that hospital who treated my daughter took a part of my heart out of gratitude.

CHOP is the best hospital anyone could ever go to in my opinion. Ive been here more times than i can count and every single one of those times I got the best treatment ever. Its not a long wait at all for anyone. The staff, doctors, nurses, etc are the sweetest and they wont let you leave until they are definite youre okay. There very attentive and will come to your room like every 30 minutes, 1 hour at most to check if you need anything water, medicine, etc. Noone is judgemental there no matter what you say or do. I started going there when i was 9. I was having asthma attacks basically everyday and the doctors helped me figure out my tonsils were blocked. They booked me ASAP for a tonsil removal and within a week i was in for surgery. Ive been breathing clearly ever since! A few years after I was 13 or so i came in dizzy, lightheaded, low hr, and lost 20 lbs in the matter of 5 months, i went to other doctors and hospitals for this and they just said to eat healthier, might be a thyroid issue, maybe just bradycardia, etc. noone gave me a real answer but as soon as I showed up to chop they took me back right away and noticed i had an ed. I was treated so nicely during my inpatient treatment on the seashore floor and they have all kinds of therapy such as music therapy, art therapy, coloring, movement, etc. My stay lasted about 11 days and then I went home but then the same things happened again, a few months later i found myself back. Noone judged me, they treated me like anyone else whos getting treatment. This time I fully got to a good place, im at my goal weight, and still seeing chop doctors for therapy, weight checks, etc. They know what there doing, and will make all the time that they have to make sure youre okay, not just physically but mentally amd emotionally. You can always count on CHOP. They saved my life so many times. (very good food and views lol!)

I’m writing this several months after my daughter had a procedure done. The entire experience was fantastic, everyone we encountered was extremely helpful and friendly. The nurses made my daughter feel so at ease that day. The doctor spent a great deal of time explaining exactly what was going to happen. We are so grateful and fortunate to have this hospital so close to home. God bless all of the staff at CHOP.

Went there from Jersey and it took a hour, but I can say I wasn’t disappointed at all, the doctors and nurses were nice, except for this one at the front desk. She was rude, and wasn’t listening. But either way, the rest was good, and everything was clean. Going there again soon, hope I can say the same again. I’m editing this about 3 months later, I went again for my surgery and In January and the nurses helped a lot and made sure I was okay, except for the fact they came in every single minute I couldn’t get sleep and I was up until 5 am and never got sleep but it was good and at least they took care.

My son is 1 year old and he was having diarrhea and vomiting. We took him here and from the front door everyone was polite and courteous. We were checked in, and in the room within a half hour. The nurses were great. We were in and out. Thank you so much. They said it was a stomach bug and they gave us medicine for his belly. He immediately started to feel better. Wouldn't have went anywhere else.

Google
We’re forever grateful to CHOP and especially Dr. Fuller and her surgical team for taking amazing care of our daughter during her open-heart surgery. Dr Fuller took time to speak to us and went into details of how the surgery went. She took great care of Ariana and brought ease to us. Britney, who prepped her before surgery, brought calm to a scary moment. The surgical team even dressed up her stuffed bunny to go into “surgery” with her, it meant the world to us. Every nurse made a huge impact: Emily, Tyler, Gretchen, William, Sam, and Dan; thank you for treating Ariana with love, patience, and creativity. From pretend IVs on her baby doll to helping our family stay together, you made the unthinkable feel bearable. To the PTs, echo techs, and everyone whose name we didn’t get; thank you for your care. CHOP didn’t just fix our daughter’s heart, they cared for our whole family. We’ll never forget it. 💗 Our daughter is home and recovering! Our only regret is not making our way to the gift shop for t shirts because we will FOREVER express our gratitude to CHOP!!

This is in regards to NICU and if I could go negative I would. My granddaughter was born here and the communication and team collaboration are non existent. My daughter has begged and made chart notes that if there are changes and she isn’t there, she wants to be notified day and night, but she never gets calls. Drastic changes are made without any parental notification. They had a meeting and reassured her she could come home for the weekend, because she has 2 other girls and has been there since May 6, and there would be no issues with communication. She has called them to check on her. Today she logged into the chart because no one has called after rounding, and they have made so many changes and things are worse and nobody has called her. While she was gonna a new doctor restarted her on medications she’s already been on that made things worse. If they had called or read her chart they would have known that. My daughter is the only consistent thing in her child’s life. She gets passed around from nurse to nurse and doctor to doctor, she’s 5 weeks old and there’s always someone new taking care of her, who seems to know nothing about her. - She is medically complex and needs continuity of care. Her labor team, and fetal surgery team were fantastic, but for being a top children’s hospital, it’s very sad that you as a parent have to babysit the nurses to ensure everything is being done that needs to be done.

My daughter broke her arm on Monday. We went to a local hospital but she needed surgery so she was transferred to CHOP. Best decision we ever made. The doctors were amazing (dr Lawrence and Michael). The nurses were amazing. Too many to name. The anesthesiologist was amazing. The receptionists were amazing. So many smiles, everyone was so friendly. They really helped turn a terrible situation into a comfortable experience. Thank you CHOP.

Yelp
My husband and I brought our son the the ER at CHOP on Sunday 11/26. We didn't wait long to be seen by the ER staff. Everyone we came in contact with was amazing. Very helpful and thorough while examining my son. He tested positive for RSV, an ear infection and had a small mark on his lung that could have turned into pneumonia. The staff went into action getting meds ready for my boy. We had to spend 2 nights at the hospital to monitor his progress. The nurses and doctors were on top of everything. Dr. Will listened to our concerns and put our minds at ease while explaining more about the virus. The nurses and respiratory staff were great handling my son while he was understandably upset and a little difficult when administering meds to him. Big shout out to the amazing staff, especially Dr Will, Spencer and Nigel. Thank you so much for taking care of my son and keep us comfortable.

Yelp
CHOP AMPs has not called me back it's been a month and I've been calling everyday. They say their office hours are from 8 am to 4 pm but when I call them in those times everyday there is no answer and no call back. I haven't been able to schedule the appointment I need because of their office members and poor quality.

Yelp
this hospital was very clean and the staff was very helpful. No one wants to know into the hospital, especially for her children, but it's nice to have a place like CHOP. The doctors and staff were extremely helpful. I make sure everyone's so comfortable and have what they needed. very nice and it was a nice touch of the elevator. Had a kids voice. hospitals can be a scary place for kids here they do their best to get the job done while showing the children they're here to help.. everyone was very knowledgeable and caring.

Yelp
I've been here as a child and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with doctors. not to mention these idiots are transing children without parental consent, even as soon as the second visit

Yelp
This hospital is extremely poorly run. The specialists never show up in the rooms. My daughter had an eye emergency and we spent 5 hours in CHOP KOP and then they said we had to go to Philly so we drove down there. It has been 4 hours here so far and still have not seen the specialist despite the hospital being pretty empty and being told several times he was on his way. My 7 year old has been in the ER in pain for ten hours and counting. Also good luck getting CHOP to fill a script or answer a message in a timely matter. The only positive is the nurses and janitorial people are really nice. If you don't have to go to CHOP avoid it as they have zero respect for people's time. They don't take good care of kids...they don't even pay attention to them so you just sit in the room forever. RIDICULOUS.

Jamar F.

Yelp
They have the worst service in the ER . I've been in here for 61/2 hours and still haven't seen a doctor yet. Went to ask why I just see a person come in after I did and got service before I did. When I brought it to their attention I was told it goes by how sick you are but the patient they let go in front of me just had a wrap on his hand so I also made that known. They stated he was here for 7 hours which I know wasn't true at all.

V S.

Yelp
Do not go to CHOP. Even if you go there for consultation, do all your blood work/ imaging in a local providers. CHOP is a rip off. First of all they don't even give you the scripts for bloodwork. They will say go upstairs and get the blood work done. If you are not aware of the service charges, you are done. They send you five star resort facility bill which you may have not used. These people are looting. For basic blood work for my son, I had to pay 950$ out of pocket.I did bloodwork for myself at Quest few weeks back, and my out of pocket was 98$. Even if u think CHOP, because they a business could have charged 4 times than what Quest would have charged, it would be waaaayyyy less. They have submitted the claims to insurance $1800 for a basic blood work. This is absolute looting... Never going to CHOP again. Healthcare sucks in this country. We are no. 1 country in the world.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Wouldn't advise taking g a child to this hospital. The hospital had absolutely no respect for parental rights. They have given my child medications without my consent and against my consent. I have caught them in several lies. They refused to adjust my childs treatment protocol or other children on the floor despite it causing some of the children harm. They lied to parents and told them they wanted to put their child on an anti nausea med but it was actually a medication for schizophrenia. If your child needs a feeding tube they will over feed the child until they puke and refuse to adjust feeds to a manageable tolerable level. I e seen them isolate children for months for blood MRSA that isn't contagious yet then stick those same children in a room with contagious children that have skin MRSA or other contagious precautions. This hospital feels like a concentration camp, not a place to heal. They will do whatever they can to keep your child a patient and see these children as protocols & $$$ they don't individualized care. They are so stuck on protocols to the detriment of some of the children.

Leela C.

Yelp
my daughter had a ton (over130) blood tests done that now costs me 23k and counting for a diagnosis that is, according to the, "a visual diagnosi." i only make 13.25 an hour and I complained to their department and of course they said th found nothing wrong with this. Be careful going to their specialist because they will run the hell out of your insurance doing unnecessary test and wait a year to tell you

Yelp
A friend of mine and her daughter have been through the ringer in our health care system, and it is disgusting. Sophia Perales, age 14, was diagnosed with a rare condition, Panhypopituitarism, after spending most years of her childhood ill and in and out of the hospital. Many hospitals and doctors overlooked her condition. After years of being unhealthy, the discovery was made that Sophia's pituitary gland has not been functioning. The years of inadequate hormones and improper treatment have taken their toll on her body. Chronic fatigue. Unexplained abdominal pain. Headaches. Vision loss. Abnormal kidney function. A 14-year-old who has no energy or drive to go to school, participate in sports, maintain friendships. A beautiful girl who sleeps too much for even a 14-year-old girl. She has been passed around to specialist after specialist with conflicting treatment regimens with no relief. Her mother, Selena Nelson, has sought proper treatment for her daughter. She fought for weeks for at appointment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, which is supposedly world renowned in endocrinology and neurology. She saved money for transportation from their hometown of Warsaw, Indiana. She fought to prove to insurance that Sophia needed to see a neuroendochrine physician. She gathered all of Sophia medical records from the last 14 years as requested by CHOP. Work was missed. Homeschool was missed. Twelve hours of travel time. Christopher Gibson, MD at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia saw Sophia Perales Wednesday May 11. He did not review any of the records that Selena was asked to collect, claiming he had been off for 6 days and did not have time. He stopped Sophia and Selena from talking about past diagnoses and ineffective treatments, saying that only current symptoms were relevant. He did not review notes from Neurology, Ophthalmology, primary care physician, etc. He offered no further testing, no new treatment options, no recommendations. When Selena expressed her lack of satisfaction with the appointment to Dr. Gibson, he said he would have to see who else could see Sophia and left the room. WHAT. ALL THAT PLANNING. ALL THAT SWEAT AND TEARS. ALL THE HOPE TO FINALLY HAVE AN EXPERT AND FOR SOPHIA TO GET PROPER TREATMENT. FOR NOTHING. Straight from CHOP's website. "We offer families a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach." Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, you failed this family. This family was desperate for answers and left you with nothing. Selena and Sophia are staying in Philadelphia this morning to speak to administration, social workers, whoever will listen to the lack of compassion and lack of "multidisciplinary approach." I demand more for Sophia Perales. She deserves the world.

Yelp
The place where I got liver cancer and they literally saved my life. Such an amazing place to be at, great staff, building is always clean, overall just an amazing hospital to be at

Yelp
My son had to see a neurosurgeon for a consult and was able to get an appointment quickly. The appointment with Dr. Madsen was today and he was awesome. Very helpful and calm with my son and me during the consultation. Would recommend him if you need this type of specialist.

Daniel B.

Yelp
It's like a puppy mill for sick children. The doctors and nurses are nice, but they prove over and over that they're just another hospital interested in making money.

Sha R.

Yelp
All I can say is don't give up on your child, I was told that they wanted to put my child in palliative care, my child kept coming back for the same thing! They even told me that there was nothing more they could do and that my child would die! Funny thing is I took my child to a different doctor , who took over care And basically said my child was misdiagnosed! Children's hospital is a teaching hospital by the way! My child now sees new doctors, and has not been in the hospital since! I'm so disturbed about this that there lucky they don't get a lawsuit! I'm just happy my child's health is took a turn for the better! Always get 2nd and third opinions! I would never come back to this hospital again!

Cooper Y.

Yelp
Had to reveiw insurance when already checked in prior, even though we have already been here. Wait was overextended and was ridiculous. Would not reccomend.

Yelp
My best friend had went to the children's hospital for a serious issue over the summer due to sleep apnea issues/other health issues. This hospital never followed up with advising to him the circumstances and when he attempted to reach out to them by email multiple times and phone calls it goes to a voice mail and the emails are left unanswered. This hospital is by far super unprofessional. After almost 6 months in counting this hospital has now just followed up to him advising his condition is now pretty much life threatening. He has to go see a cardiologist and pulmonologist because half of his heart isn't working! This hospital and the workers that are RESPONSIBLE/REQUIRED TO FOLLOW UP with people should be ashamed! I know he's not the only one that went through this issue! If there is one there is many others! You guys were SUED LAST YEAR and this is most likely why because your institution can not follow BASIC protocols and regulations! You are required to follow up with people or give them a required time line if it takes months for feedback which for sleep apnea it doesn't take MONTHS to provide feedback to a client!! It's a slap in their face showing you don't care and if you don't have enough staff members to at least follow up hire it's that simple. I suggest anybody that has a CHILD to please look elsewhere for services. This place is unorganized, ran like a CIRCUS, not for the people, and don't follow hospital regulations. Our children need to be protected at all COST and this hospital I don't believe is protecting our children. If it's ran unorganized in which proved it HAS than look elsewhere for services. Many doctors throughout Philadelphia do not recommend this hospital and do advise they get sued. They are not lying and now I see why. My best friend could now be on the verge of now more very serious medical issues in which is NOW DELAYED because of this hospital.

Yelp
Of course everyone's experience is different. Ours however was disappointing- in so many ways. First After my beautiful grandson who already suffered 6 years with neuroblastoma- so we heard this hospital was the best qualified for relapsed children. After months of horrible treatments in a hospital my grandson passed. There was a time they made him stay the night in a hospital for NO reason. No tests No one observing him. $$$$$$$$$$ He was extremely terrified of hospitals. More than I. Can explain. We were to get Mibg- well covid hit. Got a bad batch so AFTER they prepped him (catheters-iV's medicine...ect) before testing a failed batch. Ok This happens but rather than reschedule him they carried on with the child already scheduled for the next week knocking T out of the possibility to receive what should have been his dose. We lost our T who wanted to live so bad. What a great kid we lost. But what I want to say more than anything is we didn't hear one word from CHOP expressing sympathy. Not a word. Speaks HUGE words about how much they care. So this is just my experience there and I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone

Laura G.

Yelp
CHOP is NOT one of the best hospitals in the country. I don't know who they paid for those reviews but most of my experience has been absolute GARBAGE. I get there is not a cure for everything and not every epilepsy case is the same. You went to school for YEARS, with continued education, and research you STILL can't come up with a plan? I have questioned your knowledge since April first. You saw videos of her seizures and said it was reassuring they weren't seizures. Then what else would they be because it wasn't normal baby movements? Why would I make this up?You made me feel like I was insane when other doctors were convinced they were seizures. Amazing how the "best" hospital was WRONG. Send us home with no plan because of a 12 hour EEG being normal when she had several episodes in 24 hours. She was coming off keppra and Ativan and was only 5 weeks old. I feel like you should know the life of the medications to realize maybe hmmm the medication was giving the honeymoon effect and stopping her seizures temporarily? That wasn't in your agenda though you pushed her out the door with NO plan. She seized immediately after coming home and I called and asked if she should be transferred back and you STILL tried to tell me that these may not be seizures. After St Luke's determined these ARE in fact seizures and they tried everything it was determined she needed higher level of care. We wanted to go to Delaware but you were the closest hospital with a Keto and metabolic team. I wish I didn't have to do it but I decided to trust MAYBE things would be different as there is now documented proof of the seizures and such. I've been given fake apologies for it while you continue to mess up with your poor communication not only with each other but with me as her caregiver. You guys get to go home. You don't have to worry about her day and night. I'm going to make you worry though because if this continues or god forbid something happens to Lydia. I'm coming for your licenses. Sounds like fraud to me when I've asked for neurology to come only when a parent is present unless urgent they come when I'm not there and again later in the day and charge my insurance TWICE when there are no changes. That only benefits you and not my child. I've begged for better communication and I'm not accepting we're working on it as an answer. You either fix it or give up being a doctor because this clearly isn't the right career path for you. I've been hit with hospice being an option on her worst days. There was a genuine apology about the first time and then again on another bad day they said we could just make her comfortable. Giving up on her is not in my plans just because you can't come up with one. So many providers using the excuse of I'm new here.... Ok and? put you're thinking cap on and learn to do your job! Because um uh I don't know is not acceptable when we are talking about CHILDRENS LIVES. My daughter suffered multiple cardiac events due to seizures and I'm grateful they at least kept her alive but all my concerns go unheard. I ask for something to be checked and I'm told they don't feel it's necessary and I can tell them why I think it's necessary and then CRICKETS. No response. Because of the refusal to send us home with an ambu bag, I felt forced to do a tracheostomy. We've been here a whole year with no end in sight. This was to help her through seizures not her lungs. Now she's on a ventilator full time and this is not what I was expected nor can anyone give me an answer of how long this will be for. All I've seen is her decline since we've been here and my concerns continue to be ignored.

Yelp
No one plans to come to hospitals or have to take their children to one, but this is our hospital of choice for our kids when needed. The staff is just wonderful and they make the kids feel great to best of their abilities. It takes a special person to want to care for children and that exactly what they are. The building itself was in great condition and was clean too. Security and information was helpful, ready to provide answers in the maze of hallways, corridors and elevators. The cafeteria was a nice size with quite a few selections of food to choose from. My daughter and I were in there for a few hours. Admitted from the emergency room in about 20 minutes. She was treated, observed and we were on our way.

Yelp
5 stars for such great staff. This review is for their cardiology Dept. CICU, and CCU. Our doctor, Dr. Gaynor, is highly recommended in my book. Our daughter had to have OHS to fix her ASD. It is a routine procedure, but ask any parent going through this, it is nerve wracking, to say the least. Before and after surgery, our CICU nurse Jackie, was the best nurse. She kept us informed every hour and got us a private room at CICU. I saw the cleaning crew come in multiple times to clean our room too. She was so good and made our whole stay so much better and put us at ease. CCU was the next place for our girl to recover. Excellent nurses and staff all around. One caveat, the cleaning crew was a no show for the 2 days we were in CCU though. The trash and the smell from my girls diapers was getting nasty. The food court was good too. Salad bar, asian make your own bowl, mexican, pizza, grill (great cheesesteak!), and sandwich bar too. Breakfast is served here too. Good prices compare to going outside and eat. For parents staying for days, the parking rate is just $4 a day. Make sure to get your parking validated.

Yelp
Our visit was to the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, to see a specialist, so my review is for our experience in this facility, specifically. My son was not inpatient, nor emergency, nor surgery, etc., so our experience is office visit only, not hospital departments. Luckily, this was not a grievous visit for us. It afforded me the luxury of taking so many photos of this beautiful zillion dollar hospital health complex, & writing about it! (actually $1.5B) CHoP downtown is so big, comprising so many buildings & specialty centers, that it seems inappropriate to have only one Yelp listing (aside from their separate cafeteria listing). Then again, with only 57 reviews on this one, it seems that the topic of your child's healthcare is a relatively private matter, not a first choice to share on Yelp. At Buerger, security is a serious matter, without being oppressive. In the lobby, reception gives various ID check questions. They provide each adult a temporary badge, to be worn while visiting. This high-tech badge later turns red, & your name is replaced with "VISITOR" when it expires (see my badge photo, taken the following day). Pretty fancy, & darn secure! From the entry level, you head to your floor for yet another check-in, this time to confirm all health details, insurance, etc. The metallic sparkle check-in counter was another fascinating touch. There are EIGHT elevators, each with all-glass shafts, reminded me of "Charlie & the Choco Factory." In the elevator, a different child's voice announces each floor. Very cute. In the parking garage, they color code the floors, & pair each level with clip art of a kid's ride-on toy (we parked in the blue tricycle level). The waiting rooms are large & colorful, with tons of windows, & spectacular views of the city. There is a kids' handprint design on the lower panels of the windows, which casts shadows of the same on the floor nearby. (Knowing it would inevitably be touched by little hands, they surely added this to hide smudges.) When I encountered one over-the-top kid-friendly detail after another, at first I felt like it was all material, and just intended to distract people on a shallow level, to make the image of a haven for kids. But the staff dynamic felt earnest to me, and made me meditate a little on the word hospitable. Obviously, your doctoring experience will depend on who you see, and how the medical particulars manifest. Our visit went smoothly, and our follow-up will be more convenient at the KoP location nearer our home. I do appreciate having visited the downtown location, though. I feel at ease in this place both due to the impressive investment in the facility itself, and also the apparent mission of quality care, that comes through in the attitudes of the fixed staffers throughout the center. It certainly gave me confidence to return for other needs if they arise. The dual check-in system is organized & calm. It made me feel safer in a place where anxiety and unknowns are omnipresent. Everyone was positive, smiling at my son, welcoming us on our first experience at the downtown CHoP, hoping to be useful, etc. This attitude filtered through the other patient families there, and people were on their best behavior, acting totally different than they might a few blocks away on the street. It was an upbeat, friendly experience, which takes energy, & a choice to give that to people, & this is appreciated. It is clear to see administration has invested in human nurture, which is hoped for in any setting, but especially in a hospital, and especially for kids. ----------------- Grammar Note: No one follows this, including CHoP themselves, but any grammar book or manual of style will tell you that when creating an initialism, you don't capitalize adjectives such as of! Most acronyms drop adjectives out alltogether, so they don't end up in caps there either. It should be CHoP (little o), like RHoNY or KoP. Little o, okay? Drives me nuts! *My husband told me this review isn't complete until we get the bill... so if CHoP's billing is anywhere near as bad as Main Line Health's billing, I may be posting a necessary update.

Yelp
ZERO STARS. Chop is horrific. My niece had bloody drainage for weeks on end and the dr dismissed the severity of the drainage and sent her home with a few ear drops. The ear drops did not work and when my sister tried to bring her daughter in again, they would not escalate seeing her even though the bloody draining continued. The first symptom of bloody drainage is SEVIRE SHARP PAIN. My sister persistently called asking for them to see her daughter and Chop continued to not comply. My niece is less than 2 and can not communicate if she is in pain but is constantly pulling on her ear. I am disgusted with their lack of service, inadequate support, and resistance to seeing her. After reaching out to another dr they saw her immediately understanding the risk of the drainage - potential hearing loss. Chop is disgusting. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!

Yelp
A pretty scary experience made a lot less traumatic because of the entire staff and the immaculate facility at CHOP. From the parking attendants, to the maintenance staff, information desk staff, our amazing nurse practitioner Brianna and our incredible Dr Katherine Gupta in the ER, we felt so warmly welcome, kept well informed and in fantastic care the entire time. Dreading having to head to the ER, especially this one because of its massiveness, the entire experience was much smoother than I anticipated. This area in the city with so many different buildings, parking garages, one way streets and so many signs gave me much anxiety. It took two turns to get me where I needed to go, and that was with the help of the parking garage attendants. Please ask for help! I would've never found where I was headed otherwise! Intake was rather simple, surprisingly. We were taken back immediately and visited by our attentive nurse just the same. There are a variety of childrens' books in each room to keep the littles entertained, as well as a tv. Without going too much into why my daughter was here this time, I will say the entire plan of action was explained to us in great detail. Every test was done and every precaution was taken. Her results were discussed in length with other specialty doctors to ensure the best method of treatment. The way the doctors and nurses speak to the children and explain the process of what it is they're doing, even putting an IV in is so carefully worded so it's not intimidating. Much appreciated. The building is decorated with children's' characters which made my sick little girl smile. Even the CT scan which they referred to as a donut had animals on it! We visited around the holidays and they had something called "Snowflake Station" where inpatient families can participate in fun activities which is so incredibly thoughtful. We were told to stop by even though we would up luckily not being admitted overnight and they not only gave our little girl a nice plush teddy bear for the holidays, but one to take her home to sister also. Amazing! I can't speak highly enough about CHOP and it will absolutely be my first place to go if G-d forbid we have another emergency or scary situation. We can't thank the staff enough!

Yelp
My son Hunter was transferred to CHOP for a surgery BC of complications with his stomach. He was only a few days old when he got there. He is actually still at CHOP recovering from his 2 surgery's which both went great and were successful. As a parent of 4 children I have a lot of experience with different hospitals and doctors, and I must say I have never bin more satisfied across the board with the level of Genuine, Trustworthy, Dedicated, and Devoted Doctors, Nurses, and staff!! Not only has my son received exceptional medical treatment, but also as his parents we have bin updated and notified every detail related to our sons treatment and recovery. I am beholden and truly grateful to the medical professionals at chop for there stellar A1 medical services!! We feel privileged to have our son in there care!! Also every nurse that we have bin blessed to have care for our baby boy has bin amazing, but I would also like to give special thanks to one Nurse in particular (Britney Crabtree) who works in the NICU and was assigned to my son Hunter. Thank you so much for your thorough caring for my son, you gave us peace of mind by being so attentive and caring to our sons needs! Your truly passionate about your job and it shows in the way you treat not only your patient's but also the parents/family of the patient!! Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts, y'all are real hero's..who save lives!!! Thank you, John Green & Kerri Lynn Deleo.. And are Family

Yelp
I don't understand how everyone raves about this place. I am less than impressed after being here with my daughter for 4 nights. The nurses on her unit have been good and the Neuro ophthalmologist specialist has been good, but not one of the floor doctor or anyone on the neurology team here seems to have any empathy or compassion for the patients in their care. The family next to us is having the same issues as well. Only after complaining did the physician start coming in and giving me updates. Everything here is a long drawn out process. Her MRI took 6 hrs to get results, 5 hrs on a routine singular lab drawn, 5 attempts to get a successful lumbar puncture, 3 sticks to get an IV after my daughter has been on IV fluids. No one else has had an issue when she's been hospitalized before. You're supposed to trust these people with your child, unbelievable.

Yelp
Came here on Dec 24, 2008 for an emergency mastoidectomy and was told that if i had gotten there any later i would have passed away. Instead my life was saved by Dr. Jacobs and the wonderful nurses and staff that had taken the time to care especially during the holidays. I would definitely bring my future children here if needed. Plus the atmosphere of this hospital is astounding, as a young child or technically anyone, hospitals can be scary and CHOP definitely makes it less scary to be there even though it is a hospital setting it's fun and interactive, i could always remember Christmas Eve each patient got a visit from Santa Clause and a special gift as well (mine was a build-a-bear, littlest pet shops and a little doctors set that came with a toy dog) and they also provided a small table top Christmas trees that were decorated so that patients and their families could at least have a little bit of Christmas spirit while being hospitalized. In the end this hospital is one of its kind and i am super glad that they had saved my life and i was able to live a normal life. I am now 18 and i am alive and able to tell these stories. Thank you to everyone who works at CHOP, you are lifesavers!

Yelp
Anyone else notice that chop security guard who wears a super-man cape, smoking cigarettes, walking all around campus? So cool....

Yelp
NICU nurses play on their cell phones all day and night and have social gatherings all night in the hallways instead of tending to the babies they are responsible for. Poor communication Between staff, many times resulting in conflicting stories being relayed to parents. Never thought such a highly rated hospital would be so terrible.

Yelp
The staff is super friendly and caring. Doctors are amazing and see you quickly, had to wait awhile to get discharged but other than that loved this hospital. (Went to ER)

Yelp
While not a fan of their ER department (lacking in communication, lengthy wait time, very rough when inserting an IV into my 2 year old son), the GI, ENT and 4th floor nurses have the most stellar medical staff I have had the privilege of coming in contact with. They were quick to address my son's issue, gave me hugs when I broke down in tears, and were just the emotional support we needed during a difficult time. Special shoutouts to Dr. Memula, Dr. Wolfson, the drs and nurses on the 4th floor. My family owes you a debt of gratitude in bringing our boy back to good health. Thank you again!!

Yelp
I've never been to a worse medical facility in my life. Yes they have educated doctors and new technology - but that's only half the battle when it comes to patient care. They are so unorganized you have to wait 3-5 hours after your appointment time to see the doctor - every time. Then they will talk to you for approximately 4 minutes before rushing out the door to see the next patient. Forget asking the questions you brought with you. This "world-renowned" facility takes on more patients than they have time for and do not offer the proper care necessary for recovery. If you choose CHOP, your survey might go well but nothing after it will. Please reconsider. I cannot tell you how many times CHOP screwed me over. A successful surgery involves the recovery time, just as much as the day of operation and CHOP simply does not care about you once you walk out that door. Please don't trust such an important aspect of your life with an organization that only cares about its reputation and wealth.

Yelp
In the hospital they keep everything clean and when a child is inpatient, the staff makes sure to keep their hands sanitized as they go in the patient's room and as they walk out. This is really good, and it helps minimize viruses and the flu and much more. The staff as well, overall is kind and nice they always ask if they can do anything or get anything for us. (This is all regarding an inpatient admission.)

Yelp
CHOP misdiagnosed my son. He is now a brilliant 16 year old AP Honors student in West Chester. I've never been so glad that they were wrong!

Yelp
I just took my son to Dr. Davidson. What a waste of time. First he laughed at my son's surgical wounds. He said," cuts," and laughed. Then he is supposed to be an expert in William's syndrome. He knew nothing. I told my son was very sick and had desated, low pox, upon exertion this past year. He didn't check his pox with exertion. I asked about it being related to the decreased elastin from the deletion of the 7th chromosome which affects the heart and lungs. He knew nothing. I told him about the emphysema related to William's syndrome, he knew nothing. All he said was he is going to be retiring and to see someone else in the future. I told him there were numerous articles I've read, again he knew nothing. So I came there for answers, drove from so. Jersey, and was told he knew nothing and to go to another doctor because he's retiring after he laughed at my son's recent surgical scars. If he doesn't know anything don't waste our time. And don't laugh at someone's surgical scars. I would have made an appointment with someone intelligent who cares. He shouldn't be training the student doctor or anyone else.

Yelp
9 times out of 10 Receptionists are always racist. Might not believe you when you say something is wrong. I was there a few years ago and got told I was fine by a receptionist (Not a doctor a receptionist), and I had an anaphylactic reaction. The only useful thing is that the doctors in the back are helpful, and they give you a snack and drink (not always).

Yelp
My son is deaf and got his cochlear implants at this hospital and his care before during and now, as he goes to monthly appointments with audiology almost every single staff member has been so kind and wonderful with my son. We had one bad experience but overall it has been wonderful. So thankful for the providers here.

Yelp
It's CHOP, what can I say? Yes, it does deserve its reputation. Worth the peace of mind even though scheduling can take awhile. Luckily my son only had a routine surgery for tubes here, but I was still nervous due to the fact he was going under general anesthesia at 14 months of age. Despite the fact that the pre-op waiting room was busy, everything went smoothly and wait times were minimal. Prior to surgery, I had the number for my surgeon's secretary & she was very helpful with insurance questions and rescheduling times. During the surgery, I was updated by a nurse in the waiting room and was able to speak with the surgeon immediately afterwards. I really have no complaints with any aspect of our experience at CHOP. Plus parking is very conveniently located in an underground garage of the Wood Center and only $3 (discounted for patients).

Yelp
I've had a fair number of meetings with a research lab and have eaten at the dining hall several times. Historically, hospital cafeterias have served notoriously unappealing food. Such is simply not the case for CHOP. Each dining hall serves delicious food at a very good price. The cafeteria in the main hospital boasts a variety of food stations with a plethora of options, including daily specials. Today, I ate at the Abramson building for the first time. Since it's a building that doesn't host patients, as it primarily houses labs, you likely won't see any patients or families there. Most of the diners work in the research or sample processing labs. However, the Abramson dining hall is the only chop eatery that isn't in a secure part of a building. In other words, it is open to the public. So, if you just can't get enough of their soup or you love their sandwiches, anyone is free to stop by. I actually like this dining hall the best. It's much smaller and less crowded than the cafeteria in the main hospital, which gives it a more casual feel. Additionally, their salad bar is self-serve, as opposed to the main hospital, and is not restricted by number of toppings. Because the salad bar is self-serve, they charge by the ounce. But, the price is very reasonable. Also, instead of ordering from the individual behind the counter or at the grill, Abrams has touch screens for ordering hot items. It's clear that CHOP dining is very aware of their patients, families, and guests dietary needs, as they provide content information for all the food they serve. They also provide ample vegetarian, vegan, and kosher options for those with dietary restrictions.

Yelp
Spent four hours in the emergency room waiting for test results. This is ridiculous. They're not busy here tonight.

Yelp
My son was seen in their ED for nine hours, admitted as a patient for an additional 25 hours. During that time, the CHOP ED forgot to turn in a blood culture, forcing a second IV to be run to collect a second sample, missed an abscess on an MRI, and suggested I was crazy and that my husband would certainly override my decision when, in light of these issues, I asked for my son to be released from care to seek treatment elsewhere. The mistakes of the ED combined with the supreme arrogance of the senior attending who INSISTED my son had a disease that he didn't have could have cost him his life. Instead, we sought treatment for a very serious, but easy to treat ailment at a local hospital with stellar results, and my boy is recovering wonderfully - no thanks to CHOP.

Yelp
Awesome Awesome Awesome I never wish illness on any child - but if it happened then this is the place to go. Very clean, offers cutting-edge medical treatment. Every member of staff is of utmost professionalism. They go out of their way to make every patient feel special.

Yelp
My grandson was referred here because his appt at their location in Exton had to suddenly be changed. This is quite a distance from our house (80 miles one way). His appt took place in the Buerger building so my review is based on that experience. As two woman traveling solo with a baby I was intimated by the location in center city Philly. For that reason we left at 9:30 am for an appt at 1:00, and we arrived with only 30 minutes to spare. First tip: if traveling from a distance allow at least an extra hour or more to make sure you get there on time. We learned the procedure outlined below once inside by someone familiar with the hospital, had we not we would have struggled to get this information on our own as none of this was relayed to us when we made the appt. The hospital is located on a very congested street with other enormous medical facilities and road construction. Our building had an adjacent parking garage as I believe most of the buildings do. Tip #2: use it. There is no on street parking and this area is very congested. You won't find a better or cheaper parking option. I know this is pretty standard but once inside the massive parking garage make note of your floor and location (west, east, etc) the signage is good inside that this is easy. TAKE YOUR PARKING SLIP IN WITH YOU AND DO NOT LEAVE IN THE CAR - you will need it. Once inside take the parking garage elevator to the 1st floor (there is a difference between the 1st floor of the hospital and P1 to the garage). Tip #3: Go to the lobby and check in - YOU MUST DO THIS FOR ALL APPTS AND VISITS in addition to checking in with your doctor's office. Have id ready as they scan it, as they issue you a pass, as well as your parking ticket. They validated our ticket which brought the fee down to a flat $4. I don't know if they only do this for people with appts or visitors as well but it's worth asking for. I believe the max parking is $18 and it's charged per half hour. Tip #4: After your appt you must pay pay before you re-enter the parking garage. This is done at a kiosk with credit card or cash. There is no other way or person to see to pay. When you leave you scan your paid ticket to exit. This hospital is very spacious and busy, but was clean and had lots of areas to sit and wait, as well as a few food vendors. We packed our own (recommended, food area was busy and probably expensive) but were able to use the food court tables (both inside and out) and have plenty of room. While we were upset about the outcome of the appt itself I was impressed with the doctors and staff. I think they run a well oiled machine despite their intimidating size. Plus I think they work magic on sick kids. We saw several who our hearts aches for. Moral of story, come early, park in garage provided, take ticket, bring food, be prepared to pay before you leave...and if you have a complicated medical history bring as much documentation as possible to make the most of your appt.

Yelp
CHOP is wonderful. I was fortunate enough to work here for several months a few years ago on a rotation, and I must say that the commitment to pediatric care is excellent here. For an older hospital, it is well-kept, and the organization demonstrates a legitimate commitment to its mission of providing superlative care to children with a plethora of medical needs. The difference one can notice between a Children's Hospital level of care and a general community hospital in caring for ones' children is incredible. Always happy to return in order to visit and learn from my colleagues here. Great place.

Yelp
Gotta gribe about hospital food? Not here you won't. The cafeteria is the best commercial cafeteria i've visited. Hot grill, fresh deli, soups, salad bar, Asian foods, tacos, burritos, everything! They even bring in hot trays of dinner foods for the parents of patients in the Special Care waiting rooms. Last night we had bbq chicken, fresh rolls, baked mac n Cheese, and salad, all on the house. CHOP is a really wonderful place.

Yelp
For such and international known hospital they do not accept patients as regulars who have health partners! Philadelphia's leading insurance provider!

Yelp
Hey John Pletcher, I am so sorry it was a hit to your ego that I pulled my daughter from your care. You guys had 32 days to find the root cause of my daughter's pain and you failed. I gave CHOP another chance with another GI doctor and another ER admission. When she fell under your Adolescent Medicine care again it was the same thing. You focus on her mental health, her AUTISM and tell us it is all in her head. Your plan was to turn up her NG feeds to a high setting and make her suffer in pain because its in her head. And I am supposed to leave her writhing in pain? Why? Is it because you are angry, she poured paint water on your head when you wouldn't listen to what she had to say and how she was feeling? Or because she gave you a bad google review? She is a human being just like any other and she deserves the same level of care as a neurotypical teenager. How do you think my child felt when you team stood there and laughed at her when she had a meltdown? I have every right to do what I feel is best for my child. And now that you know she is safe in the care of DuPont you call CPS on me? You insinuated on the phone that I am not doing what is best for my child. YOU are NOT what is best for my child, deal with it. No parent should be bullied into signing a contract that threatens to call CPS if I don't do what YOU want me to do. My child has a urologist, a cardiologist, a rheumatologist, a nutritionist, 2 therapists, (one that helps her work through the PTSD that she has from her stay under YOUR care). a case manager, a psychiatrist. and a primary care doctor. This child is far from neglected. I pulled my child out of your care because I HAVE every right to a second opinion. I am You stated to CPS I keep changing her doctors, was that because I moved and wanted a CHOP GI doctor that was closer to my home? Or because I didn't like how Dr Fiorino treated my husband and daughter during their appointment? We really liked Dr Kapavarupu, who spent an hour with my daughter and I discussing her problems. I stood with CHOP doctors for GI because we thought they would help but once we were under your care again you weren't going to do any of the things Dr. Kapavarupu suggested. By the way, my daughter still has her NG tube in, not sure at what point you thought she didn't. Get your facts straight. Stop wasting CPS's time for retaliation on a child who is well cared for by her family and specialists. Stop being a bully and set a better example to the resident doctors about how to treat children with Autism. Perhaps some sensitivity training is in order. Spend some time at CHOP's Center for Autism Research. We had a great experience there and I am sure they can give you some helpful information on how to work with children with autism who are extremely stressed out in an unfamiliar hospital setting.

Yelp
Look, I'm a nurse. If you're being seen right away with no wait time at most emergency departments, you're close to death. It's not good. If you're waiting, yes, it's annoying but it means you're unlikely to die. To minimize the annoyance, only use emergency rooms for emergencies. Call your primary or utilize urgent care instead if it's not a true emergency. We brought our 14 month old son to the CHOP ED after he split his lip from falling. We consulted with his pediatrician first (again, trying to avoid the ED unless absolutely necessary) and after she looked at a picture of his lip, she recommended we go to CHOP. We were escorted to his room in the ED within 5 minutes of registering. We were seen by nurse and insurance registration within 10 minutes or so. The registrar was super nice and hooked our family up with lots of drinks and snacks since our 3 year old was also with us. Once our son was assessed by a nurse practitioner (within an hour or two?) things slowed down. We arrived at 1:30 pm and my son didn't get stitches until 6:30 or 7. But again, I saw kids with cancer there and there was a major car accident victim who arrived after us. I consider it fortunate to have to wait with my healthy son. What sets CHOP apart from another ED--besides the fact that they specialize only in pediatrics--is the Child Life Specialists. They focus on keeping families and kids as calm as possible during distressing procedures. Jackie was my son's Child Life Specialist during my son's stitching and she was a tremendous support to me and talked me through how I could best keep my son calm. She was amazing. We finally left at 9:30 pm. During our stay, Child Life and the nurses also offered support and distractions to my daughter because CHOP truly treats the whole family, not just the injured or sick child. My husband and daughter ate dinner at the awesome cafeteria (seriously, I loved the Chinese food here when I did clinicals at CHOP during nursing school!) and my son came out stitched and mostly distress free. I hope we never have to return but if we do, we'll be in good hands.
