The Best Chinese Food in Nashville

"In a small strip mall on the Westerly outskirts of Nashville, China Spring has been supplying locals with Sichuan, Hunan, and Mandarin-style Chinese American staples since 1999. There aren’t many surprises on the menu here, just well-done family-style dishes like Cantonese-style lo mein, moo shu, fried rice, egg rolls, egg drop soup — served in reliably generous portions. There are a few tables available for dine-in, though taking food to go is vastly the more popular option." - Ellen Fort, Eater Staff

Google
Excellent Chinese food that is fairly priced! My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our take out order. $29 for two plates stuffed to the brim and plenty of leftovers. Flavor was superb and service was fast. This is an awesome little hole in the wall spot and the closest place to us as well! Will be going again soon! I had orange chicken w/fried rice and my wife got sesame chicken w/ Lo Mein.

Google
The kid working was noce but the food was not. The spring roll were soggy and as was the sweet and sour chicken. The restaurant was not clean and we ate in the restaurant and they said we could use bathrooms cause they were using them for storage so please go to Kroger. The sweet and sour sauce was so watery and had no flavor. The fried rice was good.

Google
The worst Chinese food I have ever had. The food is very bland and flat. Ponda Express is much better than this terrible Chinese food.

Kali Wilson

Google
Worst kung pao ever. It was all rough chopped celery and under cooked green peppers. There were no real plates or bowls. No beverages were offered. One of the two children hanging out while their parents worked was coughing w/out covering their mouth while walking around the dining room. Not worth $20!!

Google
I like Chinese cuisine but this is not my favorite Chinese In Nashville. We tried the hot and sour soup, egg roll, and several of their entrees in the styles we prefer and did not enjoy any of them. It did not taste like it was made to order for us or we just didn’t prefer their presentation. We found the texture of the food was too similar to excite us. We also ate it there at one of a couple of tables they had set up.

Google
FIVE STARS, EASILY. Went on Christmas night. Ordered online ahead and there was a little bit of a wait when I arrived but that's to be expected when they're one of the only places open on Christmas. Food was delicious and employees were friendly. Prices are high but they reflect the large portion sizes. I had enough leftovers for another meal. Highly recommend. Will be back

Google
I was very unimpressed with the food at China Spring. As a first-time customer, I found the quality of the fried rice disappointing. It was yellow, had no vegetables, and lacked flavor. The fried noodles were just plain brown noodles with no meat or vegetables. It's disappointing to see such poor quality being served and delivered.

Google
The fried dumplings were amazing!!! We ordered the Dragon & Phoenix and I mean wow it was soooo good! We didn't realize we were getting white rice with our meal and wanted fried rice. The young lady was so nice about giving us the fried rice even though there was a price difference. We insisted on paying the difference and even ordered more food to go for later. Highly recommend this place and we will go back!

Yelp
What can you say? Chinese buffet! Basically all the same. This is basically location driven and the food is the same as most other places. The price is basically the same as most other places. People are basically the same as most other places. I eat here when I feel like it.

Yelp
China Spring is my new go-to for quick serve, tasty, bountiful and well priced Chinese food! China Spring is located in the Kroger shopping plaza on Highway 100 and like most Mom and Pop Chinese spots, there is not a whole lot to it. They are still not allowing dine-in, but you can walk-in and wait inside for your order. They do a lot of call-in and online orders, but I happened to get a craving for Sesame Chicken right as I was walking into Kroger, so I popped over, ordered and then went to do my shopping while they prepared it. I was in Kroger for about 15 - 20 minutes and by the time I popped back in to China Spring, they had me all ready to go! In addition to being impressed by the service, the food was solid as well! I ordered Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice and a Wonton Soup. The Wonton Soup was great. The broth was nice and light, but still flavorful and it was packed with wontons! I do wish they gave you more crispies with it, but I will know to ask next time! The sesame chicken was excellent and bountiful! They do not waste your time with a bunch of broccoli filler on the plate, you get 99% chicken, which no one is complaining about! The chicken was covered in that sweet sauce, but still held its crispiness. The rice, which yellow and I am still getting used to that since moving to Nashville, was packed in a container and equally delicious! Overall, massively impressed with China Spring and will certainly be back...and back and back again!

Yelp
I've tried so many Chinese restaurants around Nashville and nothing like this one . The food here is always amazing and fresh. Crab Rangoon chicken teriyaki appetizers are always so so good and generous. The owners we've known for a century now. Super friendly and caring! Restaurant is very clean and there is a dine in area as well. I would recommend this Chinese restaurant to anyone and all of Nashville.

Vincent L.

Yelp
Just Good - Solid take out Chinese food. Fast accurate with your order and everything is done well as you'd expect.

Marc R.

Yelp
Awesome food. Did take out so the dining room was irrelevant. I have been looking for good Chinese since moving here 3 years ago and this is by far the best. Actually it's probably the best I have had period, at least for what I ordered. We hot Mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken. We will definitely be back. My only complaint is that they combined the sweet sour chicken in the same plastic container as the fried rice. This makes the chicken less crispy. Not a big deal. Still 5 stars.

Yelp
Love China Spring. Good Chinese food. Not greasy like other local restaurants are. I highly recommend China Spring.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
During Covid China Spring is offering take out! You can call and order in or stop in. Mask are required, and a plastic curtain separates you and the counter for extra barriers. Now for the fun part! I stopped her randomly after a workout class in the area. I was craving orange chicken and China Spring did not disappoint! The texture of the chicken is perfect with pieces big enough that you still taste the chicken and coating but small enough to fit in a fork without cutting. The sauce is crazy flavorful! I also got veggie lo mien, which are first was good but not great and then I let it sit overnight and reheated some and those flavors really came out even more (better as leftovers is always good in my book). The woman working at the front was very kind, and the order was ready in about 10 minutes. This is the best Chinese food I've had in Nashville!

Dennis F.

Yelp
New way of packaging beef/shrimp with mixed vegetables Is a tipoff. last time I will be there.
google avatar

Karen W.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time I have gotten food there, and it will be my last, it is awful, SORRY

David P.

Yelp
Moved from Orange County CA. My wife is from Taiwan and really picky about her food. This is the one place that we go back to over and over again. The food is great and the owners are very nice. So far the best Chinese food we found in Nashville, and we've tried quite a few.

Debra A.

Yelp
This has been our go-to Chinese takeout restaurant for many years. The food is always good!

Basil H.

Yelp
This is a simple restaurant in a strip center. They have good (not great) food and are economically priced. We got fried dumplings, pork lomein, and beef with broccoli. All were pretty good and most were very salty. Pleasant service and quick service.

Yelp
Love this place! Always so friendly, the food is amazing. Family owned, I frequently see their little ones helping out after school. The veggies are always fresh, I've never known a Chinese take out place to be so good and consistent. Great addition to Bellevue!
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
Always a clean wok. Always fresh, hot, and delicious. No hassles and very good family restaurant.
google avatar

Drew H.

Yelp
Great service and food is always reliably tasty !!! We've been coming here for over 10 years and they have remained consistent.
google avatar

Val B.

Yelp
I've ordered from here a few times and it's always good. Delivery is pretty quick, and very friendly. The steamed dumplings are my favorite here. The sesame chicken is excellent and the lo mein is pretty good. The Singapore mei fun is a bit spicier than I'd like though. Happy to have a reliable local place.

Ashley A.

Yelp
My husband wanted Chinese so we decided to check out China Spring since we hadn't been there before. We will never go anywhere else now! The food is so fresh and good! The proportions are huge as well! Our favorites are the crab Rangoon, orange chicken and the black pepper chicken! Pictured is the black peppered chicken and sesame chicken! Yum!

Peggy B.

Yelp
The food was very good. Ordered veggie egg roll, maybe it was because it was cold by the time I got home but the wrap was way to thick for my liking, a qt of wonton soup, that was loaded with wontons and delicious and Sesame chicken. Really good but next time I will get the sauce on the side. The darling little guy at the register( youngster in training) made my day.! Definitely worth giving this place a try.

LJ J.

Yelp
Not sure what has changed a bit, but the food was particularly excellent today!! Thank you!! Still miss the delivery though.
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Delivery time showed 30-45 minutes. We live around the corner (2.4 miles according to google) so I figured it'd probably be fast. Called them after about an hour had passed, the woman on the phone said it'd be another 20 minutes. Told her I would just come pick it up and she said the delivery guy was already on the way. Not sure how it takes 20 minutes to travel 2.4 miles when Google says it should take 7. Tell her we'll wait a bit longer and she tells me "If you were hungry you should have just got it yourself." REALLY?...REALLY? How is that acceptable? What if I happened to be sick? Bedridden? Watching the kids? Unbelievable.
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Oh dear sweet baby Jesus I love this place!!!! One night, we ordered food from several Chinese places around the area to compare and find out which was the best. I was surprised that this place was hands down the best! It's just a little hole in the wall place by Kroger, but their food is so tasty. I use the beyond menu app and order from here all the dang time. They always deliver in 30ish minutes. They are fast, nice, and always get my order correct. I appreciate the convenience, too. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone in the area. If you don't feel like cooking dinner or if you're just craving some Chinese-- this is the place to call! Just a warning: the crab ragoon is scary addictive haha

Elena S.

Yelp
I loved going there with my dad until they changed their pan fried dumplings. They were so good before I miss the old pan fried dumplings. Still has a good place in my heart though.

Yelp
Great food? No. Good food in a hurry? Depends on what you order on the menu. I like that they will actually make something extra garlic or extra spicy, rather than giving lip service. It is the best take out Chinese in Bellevue, although that is not saying a lot. Personally, I like their szechuan beef and garlic chicken combos. Both come with an eggroll and pork fried rice. And both are around $7 - $8 (in 2014), which is reasonable. And to Scott G (yes, I know him), this is hole in the wall take out Chinese. :-)

David G.

Yelp
I like this place. I stop by about every two weeks or so and have never been disappointed. My two favorite dishes are Kung pao chicken (they can make it extra spicy if you ask) and General Tso's chicken (great flavor!). Everything is cooked on the spot, no steam tables. Mainly take out but a small seating area is available and the decor isn't gaudy. Staff is friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Great food. Very fresh. Super Fast delivery. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Let's be serious. This is Nashville--there ain't no good Chinese food to be found in this town, particularly for this former New Yorker who practically lived off the stuff until moving to town in June. That being said, China Spring is probably the best Chinese food I've found in Nashville so far. The food is always hot and fresh, the portions are generous, and the prices are more than fair. I usually order steamed chicken and vegetables with brown sauce and brown rice, which is consistently good (though not difficult to mess up). My boyfriend likes the chicken mai fun and the wonton soup. I love that they're close to where we live and open late into the evenings for a quick stop after an evening meeting. Until we find something better, which probably won't be for a long while, I'll continue to head to China Spring when looking for decent Chinese food.
google avatar

Joyce D.

Yelp
Good Chinese. I order pick up from here a couple of times a month. I usually get the same thing and its always been good and consistent. The service is fast and friendly. So far the fortune cookie lottery numbers are not lucky...
google avatar

Gabriela A.

Yelp
Ok fast delivery kinda authentic, great fur lazy no cooking days, good online menu that helps you order faster, just don't close it or you'll have to start all over

Sarah M.

Yelp
This is the best Chinese in town! I am here almost every other day when I am in town. Staff is very friendly and amazing. Food is always great. Will continue to go here for the rest of my life !!

Steve C.

Yelp
Why can't I get decent food in Bellevue? Particularly Chinese food? I've burned out on China Panda down the street from here due to bland, tasteless food. Now I can add here to the list. I ordered an egg roll, hot and sour soup, shrimp lo mein and one of my acid test dishes, double cooked pork, extra spicy. WTF is with Chinese restaurants in Nashville? I order dishes that are labeled "hot & spicy", and ask for them to be extra spicy, and they still come bland, tasteless and boring. Another disappointment in the culinary wasteland that is Nashville. China Spring, your food sucks.

Tracy M.

Yelp
Their food is always fresh and hot. It's good fast Chinese food. They are so friendly and my kids love going there to talk to them. In the 3 years we have ordered from them they have only missed part of our order one time and immediately took care of it for us.
google avatar

Sasha A.

Yelp
China Spring is still my preferred Chinese take out in the Bellevue area. The food is always good, even though it's mildly greasy. The staff is friendly and they get your order out in a timely fashion. Their Wonton Egg Drop soup still rocks.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Typical chineese buffet. Nothing special about it. Lots of grease. Lots of flavor.
google avatar

Dez S.

Yelp
Decent Chinese food. Very friendly staff. Shrimp egg rolls are better than vegetable egg rolls. I like the beef with snow peas.
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
I haven't been in awhile and it could be hot or miss but tonight it was a definite hit! I got an order of fried dumplings ( ok, not great) and an order of Kung pao chicken. It was perfect! Nice and hot, perfectly spiced and delicious! I could easily crave this. Keep it up China Spring!
google avatar

Basak K.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE! An average chinese restaurant by the looks of it but i got severe food poisoning from my last meal. Beef and broccolli, hot and sour soup and fried rice. Trust me, worst 48 hours of my life. Stay away!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
I thought I would try it. The egg rolls were greasy. Their egg drop soup was as horrible as the beef and broccoli, which was way overcooked. I won't be going there again.

Joy S.

Yelp
This is really a bizarre place. And their food shows it. They recently added an appetizer, pan fried wontons in garlic sauce. I'm guessing that garlic sauce in the north vs the south are two different types. This sauce was over the top sweet. Oh. and the wontons? Leather. No way they were pan fried. I'm betting they are extra deep fried wontons they toss in a oan for a hot second. Ordered wings too. Like wood. Extra, extra overcooked. And their bedside manner is creepy: As soon as you get rung up, the woman behind the counter holds her hand out. I mean instantly, like gimme, gimme. And, if you step out of the store for even a minute, when you come back in they do not recognize you and ask what you would like to order. Bizarro land.

David M.

Yelp
Has been good the last few times we've ordered. Staff is nice and food was consistently good for the average take-out
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
We love this restaurant and order from them every week. They have a great menu online that is very easy to order from and delivery only takes a very quick 20 - 30 minutes. The food is excellent and the drivers very polite.
google avatar

William Z.

Yelp
Great little Chinese place in Bellevue. It has quick service, cheap food, and it's delicious. Anytime I have a craving for Chinese I go here.
google avatar

Lee C.

Yelp
This is the best take-out chinese food in Nashville! If you want gourmet this is not it, but if you want really good and fast chinese this is the best around. The food is always excellent and they always get my order correct. When you walk in it is super clean and the people that work there are friendly and efficient. I don't understand some of the bad reviews except for there are other China Springs in Nashville and maybe they are reviewing the wrong one - this one is HWY 100 in Bellevue and it is DELICIOUS!

Art C.

Yelp
The white rice was good but the chicken was very bad. Probably frozen crap from who knows where. Girlfriend liked here tofu and veggies

Mo N.

Yelp
I've been going to China Spring for a few years now and they are one of the better Chinese places in the area. I usually get the spicy dishes, but the sweet and sour chicken is lightly battered white meat with steamed rice and is consistently good. The vegetable egg rolls are pleasantly sweet and the lo mein is also a favorite. It's not too oily and they use tender white meat with a few Asian veggies thrown in. The spicy garlic sauce is good and I have yet to find another place that makes it as good. They also have a lunch menu which is affordable and offers a wide variety for different tastes. Service is fast and though you can stay and eat, it really is meant to be a takeout joint.

John H.

Yelp
One of the hidden secrets of living in Bellevue is China Spring off Hwy. 100 - absolutely the best quality takeout Chinese food I've had anywhere I've lived, and in the past it's been super convenient and fast. We've ordered takeout dinner there at least once a week since we moved to Bellevue in 2012. But, there's been a change in management apparently - the young woman who was always running things in the evenings hasn't been there for a few months - and we've had major problems with our past 3 takeout orders in recent weeks, to the point that we don't feel it's worth the effort to go back. With one order, we found when we got home that the egg rolls were left out (not worth driving back to China Spring to get), and then the next order was missing a major entree (which did require me to drive 20 minutes roundtrip to pick up the missing dish). Tonight, I called in an order for pickup, I was told 10 minutes 'til it would be ready, I got there in 15 minutes, but left after 40 minutes with no food because they still hadn't gotten around to my order. The young man working the counter was swamped - taking phone orders on two lines, taking walk-in orders lined up at the counter, and also dispensing the pickup orders as they became ready ... and twice one of the cooks walked out into the restaurant, found a takeout customer each time, and asked questions trying to clarify what the customer had ordered ... The food at this China Spring location is the BEST quality in Nashville, but in Feb. and March 2014 it's gotten obvious they need a new manager or extra help on nights when they're so busy ... we'll wait a few months and miss the good food until the service improves ...

Dawn S.

Yelp
We called in our order, gave our phone number and after repeating both our phone number and order back to me she stated it would be ready in 20 minutes. When we showed up in 20 minutes to pick up we were told they did not have our order. Did not have our phone number. And they were very rude about it. Very very bad experience. We will never go there again.

Jessica S.

Yelp
I usually detest Chinese food, even "high" end places, and typically order from the Mexican place next door. However, I tasted my husband's food last time and loved it! We have only gotten the honey chicken from here, but it is really delicious. They accommodate my special request to make the fried rice with brown rice without difficulty. Much better to us than the other counter Chinese restaurant close by.

Jim S.

Yelp
Best Chinese around. As authentic as you can find in this town, and they happily make to order. Give it a try!
