The 21 Best Restaurants In Chinatown - London - The Infatuation

"The tiny Chinese takeaway spot in Chinatown makes jianbing and it’s one of the best-value, quick lunches in the area, depending on the size of your eyes when it comes to the fillings. The savoury crêpe-like dishes start at around £5 but when you load them with marinated pork belly and enoki mushrooms, it’s more like a tenner. The jianbing is painted and fried with two eggs, chilli oil, a feisty BBQ sauce, and youtiao. Spicy, meaty, crunchy, messy." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

London’s Best Grab & Go Meals - London - The Infatuation

"Chinese Tapas House—a tiny takeaway spot in Chinatown making jianbing—is a rare example of street food done right in London. The savoury crêpe-like dishes start at around £4 but when you load them with marinated pork belly and enoki mushrooms, it’s more like a tenner. It’s worth it though. Spicy, meaty, crunchy, messy—it's a satisfying lunch, especially when standing outside, watching people in the Angus Steakhouse opposite." - jake missing, rianne shlebak

Chinese Tapas House - Review - Chinatown - London - The Infatuation

"London has never been particularly good at street food. It’s too cold and we’re too good at commodifying things. But there are still examples of it done well and Chinese Tapas House—a tiny takeaway spot in Chinatown making jianbing—is one of them. The savoury crêpe-like dishes start at around £4 but when you load them with marinated pork belly and enoki mushrooms, it’s more like a tenner. It’s worth it though. I had heard about this place on Instagram, and I love a Chinese crepe, so went specifically for those. We got there and I was worried it would be busy, but it shockingly was not. We ordered and watched our crepe being made. It turned out delicious. We also ordered a pork bun that was huge and pillowy and also delicious. The whole Experience was amazing. Food was a good price. I highly recommend a visit. Especially if you are getting the nuggets next door.

Google
i got the roasted pork belly jian bing. It was fresh and crispy however very fatty, i guess it was a low quality cut as a lot of it was just fat. Good savory flavour

Google
I ordered a pork bun and it was delicious, I was expecting to get more the of the sweet version but this was still good. It was fast to order and eat on the go!

There was no queue on a Saturday afternoon. Had the Chinese pancake with pork floss and lettuce and really enjoyed it! It had crunch and a bit of spice. Paid £8.5 because of the toppings pricing. The wait was under 5 minutes. Overall, positive experience.

Google
This place is an absolute disappointment. The “jianbing” they serve is nothing like the real Chinese jianbing. It’s completely inauthentic and a total scam. The flavor, the texture, everything is wrong. It’s clearly just a tourist trap trying to cash in and definitely not worth the money. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else. This is not the real deal.

Google
I got a Chinese crepe with the sausage filling! The crepe was made of eggs, and was filled with sausage, coriander, and spring onions! They recommended the pork belly with lettuce but I was only there for a light snack.. Good Chinese street food to try but the taste was not mind-blowing. Filling and savory, so I recommend it for an afternoon snack or breakfast/lunch! Their buns looked very big in size! Ill be back to try it!

Google
I had never had anything like the crepe before but since I tried in March, I've thought about it at least 3 times/week! I returned for my second visit today and I'm so happy I did - these are incredible textures/flavours at an unbelievable value (starting at £5). The star of the show here is the jianbing/Chinese crepe. It starts as a thin French crepe but then they make a spring onion omelette on top of it and use it to wrap up fried dough sticks and spicy/sweet sauces. Various meats, pickled vegetables, and/or enoki mushrooms can be added for a surcharge. Really tasty, very hot, and very filling!!

Google
Small stall with traditional Chinese breakfast selections. The Chinese crepe cake is heart-warming and nostalgic. The taste is also pretty authentic. The price for the add-ons are too much though. Suggest just get the basic version, which has eggs and fried donuts already.

Yelp
We came to Chinatown in search of jianbing and we were so glad to have finally found it! While it's so nice that you can watch everything being made fresh in front of you, service is quite slow so don't expect to be able to order and leave within the next 10 min. This really satisfied my craving. However, it was a lot more oily than I expected. I definitely recommend getting some veggies inside to give you more of a refreshing bite. I was also disappointed by the Chinese sausage. I thought I would be getting lap cheong but it was just a hotdog.

Yelp
Authentic jianbing and pork bun. Fun to watch the jianbing made in front of you (although it does make the service a bit slow, but worth it for the fresh food). The pickled cabbage was a nice touch, almost wished there was more. The pork bun was perfect too

Yelp
man, i really wanted to enjoy the jianbing at chinese tapas house, but i was really disappointed. we were super excited to eat jianbing after eating european food for so long and chinese tapas house is pretty popular on social media. it's a takeout shop in chinatown--classic jianbing crepes are 4.50 and additional toppings are extra. we got the jianbing with chinese sausage for 2.50. there was a small queue and service was quite slow. // jianbing with chinese sausage // the jianbing is a large portion and you can watch them make it, so it is fresh. however, the taste was very underwhelming for me. first, it was really oily. the inside didn't have much flavor at all too--i could only slightly differentiate the flavor of egg, youtiao, and crisp. besides that, it lacked much seasoning. i was also disappointed in the chinese sausage. for 2.50 extra, i thought it was going to be like lap cheong, or the type you typically find in chinese fried rice. but it was actually just cheap, processed hot dog in side. i am not a picky eater, so this experience surprised me, but it just did not taste good to me, i only finished it because i spent 7 pounds on it :/

Yelp
This was the absolute BEST thing I ate in London and the food was served by the absolute BEST staff. Wandering around Chinatown searching for the famous Chinese crepes or Jian Bing, I finally stumbled across Chinese Tapas House. A literal hole in the wall with a heated case full of buns and two crepe grills going full force by two lovely ladies taking orders and making crepes. the menu is simple, straightforward, and insanely cheap for London, or really for anywhere. I started off with the pork bun which was one of the best I've ever had, and again, super cheap only 1.5 pounds. The bun was so steamy, fluffy, and full of a big meatball that was one of the most tender and softest I've ever had. And it was SO flavorful!! Next up for the jian bing, I asked what was recommended for a first timer. The one girl suggested basically "the works" - pork belly, Chinese sausage, coriander, pickles, chili sauce, eggs, cheese, the cracker bread things (sorry didn't catch that name) and I said LET'S DO IT! And only like 7? 8? pounds?? For the massive size, freshness, amazing quality and superb service, it was so worth it. I won't go back to London, but I'lll go back to London's Chinatown just for this.

Yelp
On our way back to the B&B from a less than satisfying meal at Dishroom, I saw a couple holding a jianbing. And I thought to myself, in the middle of London, COULD IT BE? My friends waited outside while I stumbled in, and ordered in broken Mandarin, a classic jianbing with eggs, pickles, and English sausage. Pretty sure I didn't order a youtiao but they threw one in. Service was pretty bad imo, and they forgot an ingredient for a customer. Instead of making one anew, they opened the already done jianbing and just added something in there. Maybe I could have found an alternative shop, but this satisfied the craving I didn't know I had.

Yelp
The buns here are pretty good and big. They also have a lot of other Chinese street foods, all of which look appetizing. The bun was only £1.50, and it satisfied my craving.

Yelp
We visited London in March, 2022 and did a SoHo food tour with David from ChubbyFellow. He introduced us to a Chinese crepe at this restaurant. OMG, this is my favorite snack food from now on. According to David, its a mung bean batter cooked in front of your eyes smeared with maybe a black bean sauce and a hot chili sauce and a sprinkle of cilantro, which is then wrapped around crispy wonton sheets. I added pork belly for a small fee. The result is a full and filling portion of a meal served ready to eat while walking, with a complex combination of flavors and textures: warm, soft, crispy, salty, meaty, and spicy. In all, yummy satisfying goodness. Very much worth the few pound and the few minutes of queueing.

Yelp
I had a Baozi with chicken. The Baozi was cheap and tasty and the service was friendly. I suppose their specialty is actually omelettes but I was starving for Baozi.

Yelp
Customer service is terrible and the food is ordinary. The buns are frozen food purchased before instead of handmade. There are lots of better choices in the area.
