Sichuan-leaning menu with bold flavors—mapo tofu, dry-fried cauliflower, and chili-oil starters. Noted by The Salt Lake Tribune as a place to seek out dishes beyond Americanized standbys; expect heat and peppercorn tingle.

We had lo mein, general Tso (2 orders), salt and pepper spare ribs, Kung Pao chicken, shrimps, Xiao long bao and pork wonton in spicy chili sauce. The general Tso was good enough to get a second order. Total came to $119. Portions are not as big as some other places but the quality was really good and the dishes freshly prepared. The service was efficient and the waiters were really nice. I would have given it 5 stars but the place was a little old and the blinds next to me could have used some cleaning. Overall good enough to go back. The bathrooms were impeccable compared to other Chinese restaurants.

Google
Excellent experience! The food was very good; hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Easily the quickest I’ve ever had food brought to the table at any restaurant. Service was prompt and efficient, making the whole meal smooth and enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
We visited Chinese Taste for my sister's birthday - and it was wonderful! We visit the Chinese Market often and this was our first time getting dinner at Chinese Taste, and we were very impressed with the flavors and service! We loved the Orange Chicken, General Tso Chicken, Ham fried Rice, and Singapore Shrimp Rice Noodles the most! We will be visiting again soon!

Google
Dumplings 🥟 are my favorites this ones were delicious. But to be honest everything was tastier delicious, the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. My recommendation is to have an empty stomach if you actually want to enjoy all of them, you’ll need room too. Give it a shot you won’t regret it.

Google
The best food ever. We tried the Mongolian Chicken and Chicken Curry, and they were both delicious! The Cream Cheese Wontons, Egg rolls, and Egg Drop Soup were all delicious appetizers too.

Google
I stopped by the little China Town next door but the parking was horrific. I lucked out and came next door to this restaurant. The menu is extremely well diverse with options for vegetarian and lamb, seafood, pork, chicken etc. I ordered pork rice noodles with hot and sour soup. The single portion of soup was very generous not like the tiny portions you normally get in other places. The soup was definitely made fresh and the rice noodle dish was a generous portion that had great flavors and lots of pork pieces. I’m very glad the parking was terrible and that I ventured next door to this restaurant. The service was stellar and the restaurant is spotless, modern and well kept. I will be back here to try more of their offerings.

Google
Overall Rating: 4/5 Food: 3.5/5 Initially, this would have been a 5/5. The flavors were great, with authentic Stir-Fried Pork Intestines and tasty Twice-Cooked Pork. The Boiled Beef in Hot Sauce was tender and smooth. However, there were some issues leading to deductions: Minus 1 point: A steel wool fragment was found in the Twice-Cooked Pork. However, the staff acknowledged the error with a good attitude and offered a 10% discount on the meal, hence only a one-point deduction. Minus 0.5 points: The Boiled Beef in Hot Sauce was served over a bed of cabbage, and there was an additional charge for rice. Service: 4.5/5 The staff were friendly and attentive, surpassing the service at the neighboring Lanzhou Noodle restaurant. However, there was a lapse in quality control of the dishes. Shouldn't a new dish have been prepared in light of the issue? Environment: 5/5 The restaurant's decor was comfortable, featuring Chinese-style paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. The dining environment was clean and hygienic, with well-maintained tables.

Google
Ive come here often the last couple of years. I've enjoyed the food, they are so friendly and fast. General Taos chicken. Love the heat on it. Not too spicy, just......right.

Yelp
The food here is always phenomenal. While the service can be a bit slow, the flavor of every dish makes up for it. The egg rolls are the best I've have--crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The string beans chicken is one of my favorite dishes, and the chicken--no matter the dish--is always moist and packed with flavor. They have tables for parties of any size, and you can always find a table available for a walk-in meal.

Yelp
This was our first visit here. The location is next to an Asian wholesale market near the other Chinese supermarket with all the surrounding eateries and shops. The restaurant is clean, large, with some food murals and artwork on the walls and paper umbrellas on the ceilings. We didn't have to wait for a table. The waiters were efficient and friendly. Our party of 3 ordered the following items. BBQ pork steamed buns which were very good. Wonton soup with seaweed, which my husband didn't like, but the rest of us were ok with it. Don't get this if you don't like seaweed in your soup, because there's quite a lot, but I thought the wontons were good and flavorful. We also had shrimp fried rice, which only had rice, eggs, and shrimp in it. That was a little disappointing, because we usually expect some vegetables in our fried rice. However, the shrimp was perfectly cooked and tasted fresh. Next, we had the chicken lo-mein, which everyone loved. Then finally, we had the kung-pao tofu, which I thought was excellent! It was spicy, with nice chunks of zucchini, peppers, and onion, peanuts, and flash -fried tofu cubes which were perfectly cooked with crispy outside and soft inside. That came with a bowl of steamed white rice. The price was reasonable for the amount of food we got. We ended up taking some leftovers home. Overall, we liked most items and were satisfied with our dining experience. I'm glad that there are now more options for good, delicious Chinese food in SLC.

Yelp
Din Tai Fung dupe??? Possibly!! I was so happy to find some good dim sum in SLC! The dumplings were plump and thinly wrapped, the XLB were juicy and flavorful, and the wontons were delightful (if a little heave on the coriander)

Yelp
Christmas dinner. Hubs & I shared a dinner combo (Beef & Broccoli, soup, 2 small egg roll) with an extra order of the side Lo Mein. Now, I admit I'm EXTREMELY picky when it comes to Asian food. This didn't hit the spot for me. The Beef & Broccoli was a large portion for us to share came out cold and the sauce was very thick. Now, I have to admit, if we weren't sharing, I might have deviated and gotten something else. The soup was bland and the inside of the egg rolls were "mushy." The Lo Mein had about 3 pieces of chicken but the flavor was good. We arrived for our meal around 4pm, just before the dinner rush. By the time we left the place was hopping. Due to the crowd, service was a little slow. If I had to try this restaurant again, I would order a couple of different menu items that were not so "American Chinese."

Maria P.

Yelp
This place was great overall. The atmosphere was chill and quiet. The bathrooms were clean and tidy. The food was good and tasty. I recommend the beef lo mein noodles. We tried the veggie egg rolls (8/10) , cream cheese wontons (7/10), sesame chicken (classic, but would try something different 8/10) , Mongolian beef (6/10), beef broccoli (8.5/10), chicken fried rice (7/10) , and beef lo mein (8.5/10). The service was great, a little slow at times but we were in no rush. I will be coming back and recommend you try it.

Yelp
We found this place from a tik tok and let me say it did not disappoint!! We had 3 appetizers the soup dumplings , the tempura shrimp , and the fried cream cheese rangoons. Every single one of them was prepared perfectly and tasted sooo good. We also ordered orange chicken with rice and Im very specific about my orange chicken but this one had the perfect crunch and taste to it. Our server was very kind and hospitable, he was working very hard and did such a great job handling the small rush that came in. I would 100% recommend this place.

Yelp
Delicious!!!! If you are a fan of Din Tai Fung, this is the closest we have come in Utah. We loved everything we got and are so excited to come back and try more dishes. You won't regret trying this place!!

Yelp
The food here is absolutely amazing. The shredded pork with garlic sauce is a must have. The spicy oily goodness is just something you can't pass up. The service is incredibly fast and the ambience is pretty good.

Leah M.

Yelp
Egg drop soup was the best part of the meal. Worst part was the kitchen staff sitting in the dining room making wontons directly on a guest table with no gloves or anything under the wontons. Really unsanitary. The sesame chicken and orange chicken were super tangy and the fried rice was just white rice with soy sauce on it. I don't normally leave reviews or complain but the wonton making and the rice was pretty unacceptable.
google avatar

Trang D.

Yelp
Came here with a party of 10. Service was quick and very helpful. We started with the soups, they were a little bland but they provided chili oil and soy sauce to add more flavor to it AND fried wonton chips to add to the soup. Then we had the Shanghai Dumplings, not much soup in them but it wasn't too bad. Surprisingly the sesame chicken was very good and the first plate cleaned at the table. The salt pepper shrimp had too much salt, however the shrimp was fried fairly well because the shell was crispy enough to also eat with the shrimp. The pork wonton in Chili sauce, those were not bad at all! The only issue I had with it was that there wasn't enough meat and too much wrap. THE STEAMED PORK BUN! Mmmmmmmmm pork to bun ratio was PERFECT! That was definitely the best hit!

Alexia A.

Yelp
Great food and they serve generous portions! Good ambiance and server was friendly. The black pepper beef was my favorite

Yelp
Service 4 star, Atmosphere 3 star, Taste 5 stars, Price per value 4 star, Cleanliness 4 stars. This is the best Chinese food we have had in Salt Lake in a LONG time. We got the chicken and green beans, the eggplant in garlic sauce and numbing beef noodle. The chicken was the most tender perfect ly cooked chicken I have ever eaten. The dish had a hint of black bean which balanced the dish without it being overly salty like most restaurants. The eggplant was just awesome. The perfect chew and the sauce was just so good. The numbing beef noodles was the only dish we didn't care for. The beef was tender. The noodles were pasty or doughy. The sauce was indeed numbing but it disapaited quickly. The broth was meh. A lot of star anise and not much else. Bottomline, we will be back!
google avatar

Korin T.

Yelp
The food is good and fairly cheap. The egg drop soup lacked flavor but the hot and sour soup was amazing.

Chris T.

Yelp
I wanted to be the first one to share that they do have gluten free options. Our server didn't know, but we asked another man working there and he was very helpful to walk us through the menu. There are a handful of GF options including veggie, noodle, and chicken dishes. I got the sweet and sour chicken, which is breaded in corn starch or another GF flour and it was great! The Diced Chicken with spicy chili was also GF, although I didn't love it. My one request to management would be to add a sticker or icon to the GF options on the menu and online so people know they have options here. Also offering gluten free soy sauce would be nice. The gluten eaters in our group loved their food as well, with the Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, and dumplings being highlights.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
People here are always so nice. The menu is huuuuge, so many amazing options to choose from.

Utahgtr L.

Yelp
The eggplant in garlic sauce was excellent The green bean chicken was scrumptious and tender. The numbling beef noodle had the perfect amount of mala spice with a star anise and five spice flavor. The decor and service is geared towards a lunch crowd.

Tonise B.

Yelp
Very rude staff. After waiting to be acknowledged at the front check in area, we left the restaurant. Multiple staff saw us waiting and did not speak to us. Very unwelcoming environment and would never go back or recommend this place!

Yelp
More like 3.5 stars. I was grocery shopping in the Chinatown Supermarket next door. It was dinner time so I went here to try out some of their homemade dumplings. It was the very beginning of dinner service so I had the place to myself. The interior was quite spaces. I ordered pork cabbage dumplings, pork chives dumplings, seafood siu mai, Shanghai dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and wonton in chili oils. Out of everything, I think the pork chives dumplings and the Shanghai dumplings are the best of the bunch with the most flavors. I wish they had some ginger with their dipping sauce for the Shanghai dumplings. I truly wish they have a special house dipping sauce for the dumplings to give them some oomph. The pork cabbage was pretty bland. The seafood siu mai was okay, on the small side. The shrimp dumpling was also okay. The wonton in chili oil...the chili oil lacks chili and the wonton was again okay with less meat that I would like. Service was quick so no complaints there. Not sure what it would be like during the dinner rush. The price was REALLY good for the amount of food that I had. The menu looks pretty big so I may go back and try some other dishes.

Miriam S.

Yelp
First time diner here and I'm a hot and sour soup snob, theirs is rich with flavor without a gluey consistency. The potstickers were crisp and flavorful and the General Tsao's chicken was great, (who was general Tsao and why the chicken?), but I digress. The service was spot on and the food was hot, fresh and fast! There are a lot of mediocre Chinese places, come here instead.
google avatar

Lina C.

Yelp
Disappointed with the quality and freshness of the food here. For the lamb hotpot: lamb was over cooked For the bbq fish pot: the fish was stale. Stomachache afterwards. Too oily. For the tomato egg drop soup: no taste of tomato. Egg was okay. The overall taste was no longer 西红柿蛋汤 but completely strange blandness. Service was Ok. Do not recommend this place.

John W.

Yelp
Check your bill when you go to China Taste. Went there last Monday, April 7th with my wife. Ordered three entres on the lunch menu: cashew chicken, Kung pao Chicken, and Curry Chicken. When the bill came, it indicated that we had ordered the all-day combo for two entres. The bill was $8 more than it should have been. I pointed this out to the waiter he quickly provided the correct bill. He said we got someone elses. Go figure.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was good. Seated right away and the server checked up on the food. I got the orange chicken and it was amazing. I would recommend the dumplings as well
google avatar

Georgieann M.

Yelp
This restaurant had a lot of great reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. I wish I had spent my money elsewhere. Everything was bland. Very bland and somewhat oily. Except for the orange chicken. It was not bland, but it was overly sweet. I was supposed to get an egg roll with the orange chicken combo, but I did not receive that. I added a packet of soy sauce in an effort to get some flavor out of the beef lo mein, and it was still bland. The egg drop soup was oily and bland. I usually give places a second try if I didn't care for it the first time, but I doubt I will order here again. Fast food Chinese, like Panda Express, would have been more satisfying.

Yelp
First day in Salt Lake City and chanced upon this restaurant. We stopped in to look at their menu and received a warm welcome which was the deciding factor to dine in. We ordered green beans (very good), dry pot intestines (crispy & good), side beef lo mein (was ok) and salt & pepper pork ribs (did not enjoy this). The service we received was great, the restaurant has nice decor, there's ample parking and it's easy to find.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally, a legit Chinese restaurant that's big on taste, but is reasonably priced! Don't expect a fancy interior, but it's comfortable enough and the service is extremely attentive. Among my favorite dishes on the menu are the sliced beef (or fish) in hot chili oil and the mapo tofu. They also have a tasty selection of dumplings. Plan on spending $25-30 for a couple of dishes that will easily feed you for 2-3 meals! Chinese Taste is at the top of my list for Chinese food in Salt Lake City. Lots of parking and it's conveniently located near the Chinatown Mall and the adjacent RF Market. Strangely, the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
google avatar

Carol E.

Yelp
Food was mediocre American Chinese food. Even dishes that indicated they were spicy were on fact not spicy. I ad to ask for some chili oil. the fried rice was dry and tastless. I will say that the steamed pork buns were amazing and fresh off the steamer. Service was really good.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for a good Chinese take out and finally found it! I love that they have online ordering, and my order was ready within 15 minutes! We ordered 2 dinner combos and an additional side of fried rice. The portions were all great and made for leftovers for the next day! The egg drop soup was great. Very flavorful. The dinner came with white rice, I didn't see an option to swap it online so we opted to order the additional side of fried rice. We got some orange chicken and general Taos. Both were really good. The sauces were great, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Great option for when you're wanting some quick Chinese take out! Everything we had was great and still hot and fresh by the time we got home.

Florissa M.

Yelp
Best Chinese I've been able to find in SLC! highly recommend the dumplings:) custom serv was also amazing ! recommend to everyone

Yelp
I wanted this to be my new favorite Chinese spot. I had a super pleasant phone ordering experience and the prices are very reasonable. We had two dinner combos and an order of veggie fried rice to go. Total came to $44 including tip. The owner is a very sweet man and my food was swiftly served. Unfortunately, the chicken in the curry chicken had a mushy texture like the potatoes that were also in the dish. The sauce and the other veggies were fine but I kept spitting out each chicken piece. The Kung Pao beef was much better but lacked peanuts! There were maybe 10 in the whole dish. The last item we had was veggie fried rice. The order taker swore that it would be filled with a variety of veggies and no canned peas and carrots. We were sorely disappointed that not only were there only a few sprigs of broccoli, two pieces of bok choy and a couple of chunks of zucchini, but the rice was overdone and crunchy. Alas, my search continues. P.s. If you are a vegetarian, I bet you will love it here!

J ..

Yelp
Food: All the dishes are full of flavor. Northern Chinese flavor. Service: Fast and efficient service. The food came out quick. Ambiance: It's pretty interesting.

Yelp
Medium-sized Chinese restaurant in the Chinatown area of SLC. Maybe about half full on a Friday night. Menu has the usual Americanized Chinese food items, and some non-Americanized items that are mostly of Szechuan cuisine. We ordered mostly from the Szechuan menu. Most of the spicy items tasted about the same. The flavors are fine, but most of the items are mostly onions and bell peppers with a little bit of meat. We also got their signature fried fish in a heated tray with spicy soup/sauce base. The spicy flavors didn't really penetrate into the fish (a fried tilapia). Overall, the food was alright, around what I expected for a Chinese restaurant in a city without a large Chinese population. One good thing was the food was relatively inexpensive. It came out to about $25 per person for our party.

Yelp
- Very friendly environment. - Fastest. - Super delicious, authentic , quality Chinese food.

Crysta B.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in SLC. I ate it 4 days in a. Row one time. Anytime I have guest from out of town I take them here

Boting L.

Yelp
absolutely the worst sevice. We waited for 2 hours after ordering and no food was served. We asked for multiple times and they just told us "you can leave if you want". We asked why other tables ordered after us are served and the server said "because they are Americans" so white ppl got served the first?? After 2+ hours they finally found that they lost our order. They said that they would check but they never did. Please avoid unless you want the same experience
google avatar

Yelp
Good place to eat, comfortable seats and plenty of seating. Staff very friendly and food did not take long to prepare. Refills always given to us and we were taken care of. Restrooms clean and tidy. Parking outside good.
google avatar

Christopher F.

Yelp
One of the more authentic Chinese restaurants in SLC. Their dishes are more sichuan style, more spices involved. My favorite dish here is the steamed chicken in chili oil. The chicken is tender and the chili oil isn't too overpowering but yet adds a spicy kick.
google avatar

Vida A.

Yelp
More like 3.5 stars strictly on delivery orders. Good Chinese food although portions vary in what you order. The curry chicken was plentiful but it lacked any chicken and full of potatoes which was unique. Cashew chicken is fried and lacked cashews. Other dishes have been just ok nothing. Prices are reasonable but nothing stands out. Meh
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
I absolutely love Sesame Balls, which are a mochi, bean paste filled, sesame seed covered appetizer. CT does them well and they are 6 for $4. Another great dish - Spareribs - spicy, but you can't stop eating it. Courteous staff, a little pricey, plenty of parking.

Yelp
Love this place ESPECIALLY the shrimp dumplings. They are my favorite. I will say they also have a really good cheesecake as well i was surprised but that. I'm doing 3 stars instead of 5 because MULTIPLE times i have ordered the shrimp dumplings and they have given me the pork ones or a different dumpling. And because i ordered it threw Ubereats i can't get my dang dumplings, So I'll get a refund but i don't get a full refund. Which is frustrating. And this has happened multiple times . I don't know why they do this or if they think i won't notice & they ran out of the other ect. But now i leave it in the notes when i order "if ur out just cancel order" . Other than this i would recommend trying. I haven't gone IN to eat so i have no opinion of that so far. :)

Jim B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite place to have great food. I have enjoyed the Dry Pot Ribs, Pork Dumplings in chili oil, Diced Chicken in chili oil, and green bean in pork. Many of these dish's are not available at other Asian restaurants in Salt Lake. Many other dishes that have been ordered by other that have dined with me have been enjoyed. The Fish in sour cabbage and the whole fish in chili oil was enjoyed. The service is very good and friendly. The place is clean and ambiance is better than other placed. Hope you enjoy this place as much as I have.

Chelsee B.

Yelp
The food was not great. Texture of meat was off and veggies were soggy. We ordered kung pao, Mongolian beef, and wontons and I couldn't recommend any of them...

Yelp
Been looking for a good go to spot for Chinese and we found it! We were impressed and very picky. My husband and kids loved it!

Yelp
I'm not believing that I've lived in SLC for 7 years and never knew about this place. Don't I know how to use Yelp? But seriously...Chinese Taste (under new ownership for a few months) is finally a place where I can get authentic Szechuan style cooking. It's truly a Christmas miracle! I got our signature dishes, MaPo tofu, twice cooked sliced pork with Szechuan peppers, and hot spicy boiled fish. Everything was fantastic. The one thing I've seen that varies in Szechuan restaurants is the MaPo tofu. Here, it was larger chunks of tofu, with more of a liquids sauce and not a lot of ground pork. By comparison, other places have much smaller tofu pieces and there is more ground pork, plus scallions, onions, and more chili oil. This is personally how I prefer it; but the dish served here was plenty good. The boiled fish tasted great and we had plenty of leftovers for dinner that same evening. The staff and new owner are super, super nice and attentive. Stop by and get something soon to support them and ensure they stay around for a long time. We need more diversity in the SLC food scene and I think that Chinese Taste is a great example of this. You might be wondering "why not 5 stars?" It's simply because I've traveled so many times to China and used to live part-time in San Francisco that I've had the chance to eat truly phenomenal & world class Szechuan food. Not to sound snobby, it's just that my rating scale is much higher with this type of cuisine. So to earn a solid 4 star review means super good and definitely will come back!!!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
This joint has the best Chinese food I've had in Utah!! Our exchange student found in & we were all very impressed with the quality of the food, authenticity & overall taste! I'd highly recommend giving it a try!
google avatar

Yelp
I have never had a sit down meal here so my review is of take out-service only. I mostly avoid gluten and always go dairy free so I ordered the steamed shrimp dumplings (sometimes called crystal dumplings with the translucent wrappers made of rice). I also had the dry fried green beans with pork. They are both delicious and well prepared. The shrimp dumplings are subtle in flavor but bamboo shoots give it some crunch and texture. They are succulent, fresh and steaming hot! The dry fried green beans with minced pork are super savory and so flavorful! Green beans are al dente and crisp but definitely cooked. Never mushy or limp. Spot on and so good! I can't stop going back for more. The service is curt and not overly friendly but again, I am all about the food when it comes to Chinese food take-out.
google avatar

Garrett N.

Yelp
We ordered thru Postmates. The food arrived hot and fresh. The orange chicken and chicken chow mein was flavorful. The generals chicken was spicy. The meals included soup and cheese wontons which was a nice touch. Lots of negative reviews on here which is unfortunate, would definitely order again!
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Get the General Tso tofu-- it's amazing and I am not a big tofu fan to begin with. Veggies crisp and fresh. Sauces are delectable. Pricing not cheap but not high either: Reasonable for the quality. Definitely ordering again.

Wei W.

Yelp
Great Chinese restaurant specially the chef specials from menu. Will definitely come back again

Bob C.

Yelp
Their hot and sour soup is the best I've found in SLC. All of the food that I have tried has been very tasty and the portions are large. For several years they were under-pricing everything. Now they have raised their prices a bit to where they are similar to their competitors. I am happy about this because I want them to be successful and be in business for many years to come.
