Wow, wow, wow!!! After living in Boyle Heights/ELA for over 50 years, I've never heard of this place. Thank you Oscar for introducing this place to me. 01/22/25 - I had two hot dogs, and I must say, they were delicious!!! I'll be back many times over to try their whole menu. Also, their prices are cheap, and way better than the hot dog place with the red A-frame roof.

I’ve heard a lot of hype about this place I went super fat ass and got 2 chili cheese dogs and a chili cheese fry. portion is perfect. I was full and had to add that 2nd dog. It’s definitely better than Wienerschnitzel. I’ll be back!

I recently learned that LA is known for its chili dogs (among other things). Chronis was a top ranked spot, and I would have to agree! Their frankfurter has that "snap" when you bite it and their chili is mild yet well spiced. Toppings or "everything" include mustard and chopped onions, cheese is an extra charge. Btw, Chronis fries are the fat kind, crisp outside and mashed potato-like inside.

I've been coming here for over 50 years, though I did seem to take a break in my 40's. Now that we're back, we can't stop! The chili dogs and fries are so addicting! That snap of those dogs transform me back to my childhood! #supportsmallbusiness

Original good delicious Chili cheese dogs, the taste and flavor can take you back a few decades. The Chili dog here reminds me of Pinks hot dog minus all the Hollywood fuss, the crappy parking the marked up price. Comfort food at its finest.

Tried the chilli double cheeseburger and sides. The burger tastes good but it’s small. Barely had any chilli on it. The two meat patties looked like 1/4 pound total. To me, it’s not a $10 burger. $5 for french fries. That’s pushing almost 20 bucks for a meal that didn’t even fill me up. Those are Silver Lake prices. Not a place I’d go out of my way for again. Honestly, I like Carney’s and even Tommy’s chilli burger over this place better as far as value for your money. You’re paying about the same there for more food.

Their chili dog the pastrami sandwich were really good. There's no indoor sitting only outside tables they also have no public restrooms, I really liked this place a whole lot better than Arry's, the Chronis dog had snap the Arry's dog was mushy the pastrami at Chronis tasted just the way pastrami should taste the pastrami at Arry's had a flavor that I wasn't used to in a pastrami sandwich. Chronis is on the rustic older side they close fairly early (8pm) they take cards.

OMG this place is so delicious better then Original Tommy's Burger 🍔 I had a cheese burger and chili cheese fries 🍟 and they were so delicious full of flavor I've noticed that most customers were ordering the chili hotdogs🌭 will have to come back and try them as of today I got very full 😋

Heard about this place on social media and I am a Chili Dog junkie so had to try it out when in the area, I gave it a 3.5-4 as it was pretty good, could use more chili but for $9.34 I felt was a little steep as it was competing with a lot of great places in the city! That slice of American Cheese on there was $1.60.

I remember coming here with coworkers for lunch. I ordered my hotdogs with mayonnaise. The old man (I'm assuming was the owner) said they don't ever put mayo on a hotdog and then he proceeded to kick me out : ( I was with coworkers so I couldn't just leave. One of them ended up ordering me food...lol I didn't know, mayonnaise on a hotdog offends hot dog connoisseurs. I guess it's like ordering pineapple on a NY pizza .

Me and a friend were in the area and were craving chili. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and I'm so glad I finally stopped by. We shared a chili dog and chili cheese fries and Tony was so sweet and helpful he even cut it in half for us. Such amazing service and amazing food we wiped that plate clean. If I'm ever in the are I will come back again.

Been coming here since my parents came here in the 70's. I understand inflation, but man the dogs had zero snap to them on this visit. I got the food for dine in, a majority of the tables were slightly dirty, yet I see mire than a few employees. I am empathetic to someone being down on their luck homeless. But there was a guy right by where you order at the front. His smell permeated to where I was ordering. I said ok just turn the other way. Right after I order and go sit down to start eating he starts going out looking in the trash cans in the patio area where everyone dines. He smell so bad like feces and was so filthy he looked like he ran out of a burning house covered in dark ash. My appetite went to zero. I like mom and pop places to support. But I said this the last time Chronis. Pricing and just trying to enjoy your food. Not worth it.

I use to go here as a kid with my parents and fast forward 30 years later I passed by with my service dog and as always the staff is super cool and nice I got myself a dbl chili cheeseburger and chili cheese dog with fries and coke extra ice and it was still good as it was when I was a kid. I got a service dog a burger patty without seasoning and I like that it's made fresh in front of your eyes that's top tier if you ask me. The dining area on the side is nice and clean accessible for people with disabilities like myself and they were nice enough to bring me my food to the table. The vibe is super chill and calm people are nice definitely recommend it if you're in Commerce/East Los on Whittier Blvd. Food 9.5/10 Service 10/10 Cleanliness 10/10

it's always a go to spot whenever visiting. food is always bomb the burgers, hotdogs & chili cheese fries are always a MUST!

Decided to try this place out since I was shopping in the area and have seen it on reels. Has a private parking lot, outdoor patio eating area, order from open counter. Service is quick and friendly. Ordered chili cheese dog and chili cheese fries. He did ask if I wanted mustard and raw chopped onions on dog. The chili cheese fries were good sized without being too big. Good for two people to share. Fries are not too thick. Chili was good. Cheese was a slice and didn't melt. Chili cheese dog was a bit salty which I read in other reviews. I tried the hot dog with toppings and it's a little salty but does have a good snap! But with the chili and cheese - it is a bit salty. I'd return and try the chili burger.

Best Chili Cheese dog in LA! I've been to Carney's and other spots that supposedly have the best. No one could compare to Chronis'. The snap on the dog and chili have an excellent flavor to them as well. You really can't beat that! The only downside is the price. It was over $8 with tax for a pretty small dog. I will be back very soon to have my favorite chili cheese dog. Yum!

Breakfast of Champions right here. Double Chili Cheese burger and a chili cheese dog and regular fries with a Large Jamaica for $20 ish. Not bad at all. And shout out to the guy behind the counter! Cooked the food fresh as we ordered it and was taking care of other tasks at the same time efficiently. There is tons of seating here and a good size parking lot. I will definitely be back soon.

Prices have jumped, but still the best chili dog in LA. The iconic "snap" wasn't there today, but flavors were. Hoping it was just sitting in the water too long or something when craving a dog, this is definitely the spot.

I finally got the opportunity to come out and eat at this spot. I've heard so many good things about this place, I couldn't wait to come. Service was extremely fast. They make everything right there in front of you. There's tables outside to eat and a decent amount of parking as well. Prices were a little higher than I expected - 2 chili cheese dogs + 2 drinks I paid almost $30. The food was pretty good, I'd absolutely consider coming back in the future.

First time here. Pretty straightforward menu burgers, hotdogs, pastrami sandwiches. Add chili to hot dog or hamburger. Hot dogs have a great snap to them. Chili was good not too greasy were its seeping through the cardboard. Fries were made to order. Nice. Local spot, looks like it's been here for years. I noticed a lot of regulars ordering. I was the newbie. I don't think I held up the line too bad. Plenty of benches to have a seat and enjoy your meal. Great option if you're in the area looking for chili dogs or burgers.

I heard about Chroni's having some killer chili dogs. A no frills type of spot. They have a lot on the menu than just hot dogs. The snap on the dogs is nice. The chili isn't much to look at but it's not oily or watery. The chili is too salty for my liking though. The prices aren't bad. A chili dog and chili cheese fries came out to $15.xx with tax. Staff were nice and orders came out fast. Parking lot available

If you pay with cash, you get a discount. I had a craving for a hotdog and this was on the way home. I love how the menu is straight to the point and easy to read. I ordered a hotdog with pastrami on it.. ketchup, onions and mustard... it is cooked and made right in front of you... the smells is absolutely Heavenly. I was drooling while watching in awe as it was being made to order. The pastrami was in big pieces and cooked perfectly. Bf ordered a chili cheeseburger combo and he said the chili is so good.... like lick it off the wrapper good... both of our foods came out to about $28. Definitely will be back.

Dogs do have a good snap, chili is good but a little but salty. Burgers are tasty, but smallish (little bit smaller than In N Out). Fries were perfect, and when you ask for mustard (as perfectly awesome people do), they give you a small tray of it rather than those micro packets. First time here, but will stop by again when in the area.

Had this spot marked n my map but haven't gotten to it yet. Till someone mentioned it and n social media. So I was in the neighborhood decided to give it a go. Definitely old school vibes. Service was excellent as was the food. Chili cheese fries was a better portion for a single person. The chili was seasoned right. Burger was a little small for me yet still very tasty. Would definitely go back. Maybe next time I'll eat there to.

Living in Montebello my whole life, you hear about these "staple" places you must try. This is one of them. The place is in south MTB, there was a good crowd which had my hopes up. The service was good. The gentlemen behind the counter were very helpful and friendly. The food overall was average. The chili dog and pastrami were nothing special. Each style of pastrami and chili can vary from restaurant to restaurant.

Second time here cruising Whittier Blvd! Chili dog time sooooooo good. Very nice staff cranking it out. Corner location outside tables catch all the classics cruising by!

First time hitting up a local spot in the heart of Whittier blvd in LA. Can't go wrong with the classic chili dogs and fries. Is it better than Pinks? That's a question and debate most have but I say YEs! Yes they are better than pinks. So come at me. And I don't have to drive all the way to La Brea for it. Young men helping us was nice and patient with us being able to review the menu. grape soda was a great touch and so nostalgic.

Checking in on an old friend after months, even years, is a necessary exercise in loyalty, brotherly love and kindness. When those are reciprocated, the relationship is truly something special and should be preserved with all due care. This old friend, so far, has always treated me well and taken good care of my appetite. I've never been worried about some gossip or misunderstanding here. The chili and hot dogs are always on point. This is one friend that will never let you down!

12/24/2023 Chronis' Famous Sandwich Shop 5825 Whittier Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90022 I went there on Christmas Eve (Sunday) for a chili dog. The large parking lot was almost empty and I ordered and paid at the counter fronting Whittier. I waited and watched while my dog was assembled; steamed bun, dog, mustard, onions then the chili. I ate in the outdoor patio dining area, there is no indoor dining. My chili dog was just okay. The hot dog was tasty with a good snap, but I can't say that it was better than Costco's. The meaty chili was very bland with no detectable spices or heat. I would splash some Tabasco on it if I had any. Super fast service if it's not busy. It's repeatable but I'm still looking for spicier chili dog.

I love a hamburger that tastes like beef and the spread is mustard and not sugary thousand island or ketchup. The beef chili is as good as Tommy's but with beef you can see and taste. I love the grape soda which is hard to find. Lives up to best hamburger in LA. The beef is not frozen, but fresh and you can taste the difference. Worth a visit. Sorry no pics this time since I was starving. The people who work here are very nice. Great service.

Good food, exactly what i imagined a hotdog spot to be like, but that added a bit of charm. Went while there was construction in their dining area so it was loud but I was in and out quick

Ambiance: Not much to this place, you walk up and both the kitchen and the cashier are in one long room. Right on the street, but it's not crazy loud. There were some tables around the back and plenty of parking. Service: I've had a pleasant experience both times I went. I ordered over the phone the first time, and the person was extremely nice and helpful, this seems like a pretty popular place, but he didn't rush me. Ordering in person took a bit longer, but nothing to worry about. Food: I don't usually like chili dogs from fast food places because the chili is always suspicious. Lol. This place was so good. I don't think I'll even bother with any other place. Great portions, filling, the hot dog had the infamous "snap." I ate mine with the peppers for extra spice, and it was perfection. Unfortunately, the chili cheese dog was so good that I probably won't try anything else, lol

My favorite hotdogs east of DTLA. They are nearly perfect both in taste and execution. The franks are the same snappy Hoffy ones used by Pink's in Hollywood, except while at Pink's you have a plethora of choices and topping combos; here at Chronie's in ELA, there is but a spartan, zen-like offering of two: 1) a hotdog that comes standard with mustard, ketchup (sacrilegious, I know), and chopped onions, and 2) a chili dog that comes with mustard, onions, and their special chili sauce (add a slice of American, if you want, for extra) I say "chili sauce" instead of "chili" because this ain't no eatin' chili; it's a topping-- like gravy. Who would dig into a bowl of gravy?? Its superpower manifests itself when it assists the main player, whether it's fries, a burger, or a tamale. I have to highlight the genius in this chili dog. Not only is it perfect in taste but in execution. Lesser establishments just "put it together". At Chronie's? A snappy frank, steamed, nestled into a steamed bun. Atop this, mustard, then chopped onions. THEN they ladle on the chili sauce. Everything is held together. No onions on your lap. This is a well thought-out dog. The chili fries are portioned generously yet still manageable. The chili tamale, if I remember correctly, use those XLNT brand ones with the nuclear orange masa-- a guilty pleasure of mine, and perfect for this kind of place. Some caveats-- their chili burgers, while delicious, have lettuce. If that's not your thing, then let them know. If you're in a hurry, they'll take a while to make. One reason I like to stay with the steamed menu options. Another very very important thing-- they have grape soda. Ambiance? Patio eating on picnic tables with sparrows flying around waiting for a handout. Parking is generous. They take credit cards Their pastrami? Standard with mustard and pickles, but really.... I go there for the chili dogs. And so should you.

Yummy have not been here in years ones of the guys is still here after 38 years. Ron is retired but still comes and visits. The one guy says he loves working here because of the people he loves the people the history the stories.. chili is still good uses the same family recipe still family owned. Everything is still the same except the grape drink Hotdogs are the best.... A blast back in history this has got to be part of the history and this has to be one of the oldest buildings. Thank you for still working here and having this place open.

This place is a ELA famous spot I went here as a kid and still come here..and bring my family and friends if you haven't been here it's a must try!!!!

For years I've passed by this green place and never knew it was a staple here in East L.A. I saw this on my tik tok one day from a food critic and what he ordered looked good. So I try their chili cheese dog & chili cheese fries and the combo together was great. The hot dog was outstanding with the beef flavor & crunch on every bite. The chili, cheese, onions and mustard really went well together. It was so good I had to have another! I will definitely be coming back and trying the rest of the menu. The service was great and the Patio was nice & clean!

Best chili dogs in town. When I'm close Chronis I'm stopping by. I only had one but when I was a kid I had 4 chili dogs.

Let's start off with the ordering system as this was my first time here. Recommend every newbie to study up the menu upon ordering at the front where all the magic happens. When it is your turn in the queue you tell them what you want. Then they proceed to make the food FIFO as I waited about 15 minutes on a Sunday trip at 1 p.m. You pretty much pay at the time when your whole order is physically presented to you* * hot dog reminds me of a dodger dog* Fries on site are cooked fresh and not just sitting out. The staff here has molecular memory! I witnessed them just taking all orders without having to write anything down while I'm in the queue of (6) whom are making bulk orders! Establishment has the neighborhood Vibe.

As good if not better then Tommy's chile dogs are a must. Had a chilie burger too. Not bad

Overpriced and the chili dog were meh. Not anywhere close to being worth $17 for the chili dog combo. Was looking forward to going for a while was left very disappointed!

This cute little place has lived up to their expectations for several years. The food is always fresh. trust me everything on the menu is delicious. I love visiting this restaurant. The staff are welcoming and have best conversation.

Haven't been here in years until today 7/9/25. I only have one question.....WHERES THE SNAP DOGS? These dogs are definitely not the ones they used before. These ones were super soft. I personally don't like them. Maybe they had to downgrade because of price, I don't know. Chile fries were good though.

Love the food here but the prices got really high for East LA. I only got three chili cheese dogs and one drink for $32. Service is always great but I think this'll be my last visit. I enjoy the food but not that much.

Oh, my God! So good! Hot dog is a real sausage, natural casing and spiced perfectly. Even the last bite has a "snap" to it! I had a hot dog with mustard and onions. They don't have fried onions but they will grill them up for you on request! The raw onions were fantastic-they were crunchy and strongly flavored, just like an onion should be. (I wonder if they will do "animal style" onions for us...I'll ask next time). Alongside the "purist" hot dog I got chili cheese fries. The chili is real chili (not chili sauce like you get at that hot dog chain). Plenty of flavor, spicing and ooomph! The fries are very high quality-crisp on the outside and buttery mashed potatoes on the inside! Cheese is a high-quality American and has very good "cheese pull". Can't wait to go back! Oh: service is really good and friendly, too!

No frills, kinda sloppy presentation, not instagram pretty, but just great tasting hot-dogs, chili dogs, chili fries, burgers, pastrami, combos from an old-school burger stand! Seriously their snappy hot-dogs are great! The guys at the counter are friendly. There is parking which is always nice. This place is a landmark!

Only thing missing is restroom accommodations! The food is excellent, especially tamales and chili and my favorite the double chili hamburger! A chili hotdog with all the fixings is also a favorite! You can't go wrong with anything!

Chronis, Carneys, and Tommy's serve the best chili cheese dog in California. After all these years, the food is still good and the atmosphere is so nice. Love love love the snappy dogs, please never change!
