Bars and Nightlife in Phoenix

"Built entirely from repurposed shipping containers, The Churchill features 10 small local restaurants, bars, and shops in the center of Phoenix. It includes an open-air courtyard and second-story viewing deck. It’s family-friendly during the day — featuring pizza, sandwiches, Mexican dishes, and healthy smoothies — but after 10:00 PM the place is open only for the 21 and older crowd. Late-night guests can enjoy a variety of drinks, like craft cocktails at Pobrecito, wine at Sauvage, and regional craft beers at The Brill Line. The perfect option for an indecisive group with varied tastes." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Gramercy Park Is Bringing New York City Flair to the Castro - Eater SF

"When it opens this spring, Gramercy Park will serve Californian cuisine in the evenings, New York City-style sandwiches in the afternoons, and all-American brunch on the weekends. Owner Mark White hopes to open the restaurant by mid-April at 216 Church Street, formerly Crepevine in the Castro. White is starting a new restaurant group, Madison Avenue Hospitality Group, and plans to open five restaurants within five years here. Gramercy Park is the first. The center of the dining room will be a chef’s table, offering a space for guest chefs to serve their own separate menu. The rest of the 1,840-square-foot space will be full of plants, fresh flowers, antique mirrors, marble, and a 12-foot glowing tree. The venue will also have a smaller, 480-square-foot space next door called Gramercy Park To-Go, serving commuters with coffee and grab-and-go items." - Janelle Bitker

Had my Birthday party here and reserved the booth area. The service was great, drinks were awesome, and our group had so much fun!! Thank you Jacobo and team for the great service and the perfect night!

Google
I spend too much time here as it is my local bar, but that’s also because they pour a solid martini, have good happy hour specials, staffed by attentive bartenders, and in general, good vibes.

Google
Our company had our holiday celebration at Churchill and had an AMAZING time. The team was incredibly helpful, patient, and communicative. After the party, everyone complimented the quality of service and cocktails. They also had great N/A options for those that wanted them. They worked smoothly with our other vendors and the whole event was seamless. I'd highly recommend Churchill/Marigold for your next private event.

Google
Me and my partner ordered the Mexican Firing Squad and the Jewelz respectively! Great drinks and friendly bartenders. They know their alcohol and have great recommendations. The mezcal options is top notch and definitely one of the better in the city. Right next to a Muni stop as well! Highly recommend it to anybody in the area.

Google
Excellent daquiri on happy hour menu. Good music and vibes

Google
I thought it was the cocktail menu and the excellent service that made this one of my go-to neighborhood bars, but once I dropped in and met the bartender Bianca and found out it had been her playlists making the whole vibe come together... it all made sense. Come for the drinks, stay for the (surprisingly) best music you'll hear in SF across just about any genre you can name.

Afam O

Google
Above average bar! They give the most generous portions to their drinks and the drink and bartenders are definitely worth coming more than once! I’ve never had a night at Churchill I didn’t enjoy.

Yelp
i was in sf for a work trip and we came here after dinner with a group of about 20 coworkers. off the bat, the vibes were great, ambient lighting, great rnb throwback music, a great selection of yummy cocktails, and a very friendly bartender serving up delicious drinks at a reasonable price point for a big city (around ~15 per drink). i ordered the cucumber gimlet, which was SO good i got two. i'm a huge fan of elderflower in drinks and the bartender simply had magic hands, he really knew what he was doing in making these drinks. my coworkers and i were all very satisfied with our drinks and went on to order a couple more each while playing pool. my colleagues and i had a really great time at this bar, the drinks were great and the overall cozy, fun and chill ambience really facilitated the perfect type of environment for a fun night with the team.
google avatar

Pedro R.

Yelp
Edit: Management took swift corrective action to refund my drink for the price difference and that's worth a significant rating upgrade. ------ False advertising. Nothing makes me more angry than when a business has clearly posted prices but charges you more. I ordered a cocktail that's clearly labeled on their wall at $14 and was charged $15 for it. With so many other good bars nearby, why should I bother to come back here? Way to burn customers with sleazy sales tactics. I hope you correct your mistakes.

Yelp
My friend took me & another friend to this bar and had a great time here. The bartender was friendly & the ambience of this place has a pleasant atmosphere to it. The music isn't too loud which is something I really like about this place, additionally there is a photo booth and pool table in the bar. There's lots of seats at this place where you can sit at the bar, tables or couches. I don't drink so I was excited when I saw that they have mock-tails on the menu. I got the Pom Punch & I really liked this drink! It was really warm in SF & the drink was ice cold and sweetly refreshing with a pomegranate kick to it.

Yelp
Really cool bar! My friends and I walked in and instantly liked the vibes. We've often walked past it and wondered about. It's spacious with both large tables and intimate tables. There's also a pool table in the back! Be sure to bring $2 cash or coins. We all loved our drinks and the bartender was friendly. Give this place a shot!

Yelp
This bar is so special to me. Not only because I live about a block away but the bartenders are always so nice and welcoming! (Shoutout to Gilbert and Miguel!) They do Drag Trivia Night every 2nd Thursday of the month btw! The place is always well maintained, and has a cozy-ish vibe to it. Oh and outside food is welcomed!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for a couple drinks and this place did not disappoint. There was one bartender but the wait wasn't too long as there wasn't too many people there. Happy Hour menu is limited. Overall I would go back.

Yelp
Hands down a fun bar-- especially when they have DJs and a dance floor. The music is always great as well as the service. My friend loves pool (8 ball corner pocket) so we always get a game or two in.

Vianna V.

Yelp
My co workers and friends love this bar. The bartenders are always the nicest and the drinks hit everyone ‍ Its always a vibe, my coworkers and I's favorite bartenders are Gilbert and Miguel, you drink 1 or 2 of the bomb drinks and you got a solid buzz for the night! 10/10 I alwayd reccommend to anyone who visits the city

Yelp
I tried making reservations here for a wedding after party, and Jacobo was so worthless. I know he likely works for a booking company, but the dude was unresponsive and a waste of time. Didn't answer really important questions that was important to booking the venue, stopped returning emails and texts for days. I ended up booking Beehive, and Last Rites. Feel free to try those venues instead of booking through Jacobo.

Emily Z.

Yelp
My besties and I love this bar!!! Ambiance is great and drinks are always fireee. Love the service, Gilbert and everyone else there is great and always make us feel welcome.

Yelp
Awesome spot for some cocktails! Super friendly bartender and atmosphere. They have free pool on Tuesday nights which was awesome. The Manhattan hit the spot. Place was decorated with Christmas decorations which was really cool during the season.

Yelp
We hosted an event at Churchill and it was the best experience. Our guests were blown away. Your attention to detail to make our event special, incredible communication over the past seven months, the delicious cocktails, amazing catering recommendation, and friendly service didn't go unnoticed. Thank you so much Carlos and Jacobo for all the emails and site visits. Your staff was incredible, everything was smooth as silk. We are so grateful.

Yelp
Miguel rocks as a bartender and thanks for the birthday celebration! Appreciate the cools and chill vibes!

Yelp
Came here with friends on a Friday after work. I loved the artwork on the building and the menu is on the door coming in. Coming into the bar, it had an old-school (like a WW2-era I assume!) wooden/industrial/rustic vibe and furnishings. We got all three of the happy hour cocktail drinks - Jewelz, Bourbon Manhattan, and Americano. I remember the Jewelz was a bit sweet, I got the Manhattan and found it to be standard, and the Americano was very refreshing. So my personal ordering of my favorites of these would be their Americano, Bourbon Manhattan, then the Jewelz. I'd highly recommend coming here for the atmosphere and for some solid drinks after work!

Yelp
Visited this cozy bar for a friend's birthday over the weekend. The service, drinks, and overall ambiance of the place was incredible! Staff behind the bar and on the floor were awesome and accommodating to us guests throughout the night. They have a great selection of beers on tap from Bay Area breweries, as well as specialty cocktails and wines. We enjoyed some brews and a fair share of hand crafted cocktails which were all excellent. Besides bar seating, there's plenty of booth seating and high top tables as well. This was the perfect space to host a celebration. And don't miss out on the retro photo booth and pool table!

Yelp
The drinks are decent. I love the Mexican firing squad. That's my go to! Also happy to discover they have decent mocktails. The phony Negroni was actually delicious! But there's no alcohol why still $13?! Same as regular cocktail?!! Come on. Please reward us for not drinking. It's better for our health and society...

Yelp
Great drinks and centralized bar to all of the other great bars in the Castro. Friendly staff and nice ambience for an afterwork happy hour.

Yelp
===TL;DR=== - Cocktail of the night: - Islay (I like to read it as i-slay tyvm) [yes I know, it's pronounced as ai-luh] - Lions tail (so I slay... lions tail... ba dum tss) ===TMI=== If you followed my 'Last Rites' review, then you know why I'm here. To beat the line of course -smirk-. What does that mean? I stumbled upon this place, got front roll seats to the bartender (curse: people kept squeezing in between you to order drinks & you're praying for them not to spill. Blessing: you get to watch them make drinks!) Nice & cozy but crowded place, I like them. Very chill vibes all around. Sip on a drink or 2 (the drinks were tasty), people watching here is great. They have a pool table in the back, good luck waiting for a turn. Since it's the holiday season, I saw people did Friendsgiving here, celebrating with gifts, drinks, and a good time.

Yelp
We rented out both the Marigold and the Churchill for a large party and it was an excellent! Jacobo was the point of contact for the event and he was very easy to work with and quick to respond to all questions. He even helped us get our special QR Code printed on their menu so our guests could share pictures they took from the event! Jacobo and team coordinated with our catering vendor (Hil's cooking who was equally awesome) and offered to coordinate with our DJ too which took the pressure off having to give instructions to everyone! The venue is perfect for any size party. We ended up having around 120-130ish people and it was more than enough space across both the marigold and the Churchill. We had the event during the holiday season and the space had AMAZING holiday decorations / lights had a very fun and upbeat vibe to it! The bartenders (especially Carlos) were awesome! All of our guests were raving about the drinks they made as well as how chill and cool everyone bartending was. Definitely would recommend it to anyone and we plan to host future parties there when they come up!

Yelp
A nice little bar! The service was a bit slow which is why I rated a little lower, but I liked the "it's all Izzy" drink and found it convenient that the bar didn't have a busy line to get in so we were seated immediately. They also had a pool table and plenty seating.
google avatar

Terence L.

Yelp
Pretty casual bar with a ton of seating! The wooden, industrial vibe is pretty cool and it's never overly packed here. There is a pool table as well! Located on the corner of Church and Market, it's really conveniently located and makes for a great local bar. They also take reservations for birthday parties with no minimum spend or fee, and are dog friendly! I will definitely be back and highly recommend!
google avatar

Qinnan L.

Yelp
Decently priced drinks and lots of seating. I really liked that the bar had a photo booth ($5.75 for three photos) and a pool table. The music is really loud though so it was hard to have a meaningful conversation without yelling.

Diana B.

Yelp
We were hoping to enjoy the live music at this bar. But two staff members were hounding my (Black) friend for another form of ID than her military ID after they already let her inside the bar. She then showed them her temporary DMV ID. They didn't accept that either. She did not even order a drink and didn't plan on drinking. My partner (white/Mexican) and I (Asian) arrived 10 minutes before our friend and we were not even carded, and my partner ordered a drink no problem! We are all in our 20s. My partner didn't finish the (bad) drink. We left to a nearby bar that let us all in just fine. The differential treatment at Churchill was concerning...

Eugene H.

Yelp
$20 for a glass of red wine Gamay while the menu on the website says $14, one of those has to be wrong

Yelp
Great place to go and love Gilbert. Always very entertaining and make a great Cocktail
google avatar

Yelp
Really great bar with an awesome happy hour menu (bourbon manhattan for $8 - not bad), with an interesting and delicious cocktail menu (try the Venezuelan old fashioned if you like rum)! Very spacious inside, dog friendly, and about a 15 minute walk from the 16th St. BART station. Great selection of cocktails, beer, and wine. I like the big windows that let a good amount of light in, and you can kind of people-watch if you sit by the window. The bartenders here are friendly and efficient, which is a great plus! I totally recommend this place and hope to return again the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Ll P.

Yelp
This place has a nice beer collection, but the bar staff is kind of rude. I ordered a beer and placed my money on the bar. Instead of taking my payment and thanking me, this price started talking to another patron. After being ignored for a minute I took a seat. Apparently this jack*** has a sneaky way of getting a 2 dollar tip. If it was up to me he wouldn't get s**t. Assh**e

Yelp

Yelp
This place looks so cool from the outside. It has so much potential to do better. I like that they have a pool table but it's a simple place. It looks more popular during the day than other bars around here weirdly enough. With how dim the place is, they could have more candles.
google avatar

Sandy B.

Yelp
The most sugar coated lemon drop I ever had. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. Very divey, very chill and most importantly the drinks are strong and yummy. Plus it's not over price. It's a big bar, a lot of space. Great place for big groups. Its right on market-ish near the Safeway, a great neighborhood spot. The bartenders are nice and friendly. Definitely one of my favorites in the Castro.
google avatar

Miguel E.

Yelp
Great local bar for days and nights! The best part of this bar, is they serve Pinney and Van Wilke as a secret... oops! But they told me, the more it's advertised, the more they can order! So let the liquor flow in the place like the Great Seas that Moses separated! I would recommend this for friends as they have booths to share on the side and cozy, yet private areas if you wanna get away from the groups or on a date. This is a great place for a nightcap as well since they are open late and located just outside of great food from the Castro! This place is worth a visit even if alone or with a large party!
google avatar

Maria S.

Yelp
I like this bar! It's intimate but still fun, with pretty typical cocktail prices ($12) for San Francisco. I had the piña colada, which is adorable decorated with an umbrella and really delicious, an old fashioned, and a cocktail with bourbon and sweet vermouth that I liked (I had them over many hours, which is how I remember the drinks clearly enough to report out about them). I always like bourbon drinks, but that piña colada really was the standout! My friend enjoyed her Paloma (too sour for me, but I think that's the point) and two rum drinks. The bartender was totally accommodating when I asked for an old fashioned, which isn't on the menu, and when my friend asked if they could take the fernet out of her drink so she could avoid that bitter licorice flavor. The location is easily accessible from the Church stop on Muni, too!
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
A dive feel at first with the dark wood atmosphere but once your eyes adjust, it's like any deserved famous cocktail bars in the City. Drinks are good and strong here, and reasonably priced for the quality. Can't go wrong with their versions of classic cocktails (Old-Fashioned, Manhattan, Sazerac, Blood & Sand, etc.). They also have inventive cocktails which are just as good. Busy-crowded at drinking hours, especially on the weekends with the B&T crowd. Still, I would brave all that at one of my favorite places to drink since friends recommended this spot. After a couple visits my liver was hooked! Note easy to find too. Located by the Safeway on Market Street near the Castro neighborhood. Also a good spot to start or end a crawl!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
We came in time for happy hour on a Saturday. It was completely empty at 5pm. The bartender was really friendly, and we were happy with our drinks - Vinho Verde and The Matty. She gave me a generous pour of the wine Unlike most other bars, Churchill has low sofa seating that really gives it a lounge feel, in addition to regular bar seating. It's spacious and doesn't feel cramped, and you can even reserve sections ahead of time for no additional fee! Probably the biggest plus is that they are dog-friendly We plan to come back with our pup sometime!
google avatar

Marisela S.

Yelp
We had dinner across the street at a fab seafood place and I was in the mood for a mixed drink, my friend recommended this place so we walked here and it was soo relaxed and cute inside! They decorated very elaborately for Halloween across the bar on the ceiling and the vibes were just what I was looking for, some comfy couches to sit on and talk amongst ourselves. I ordered a mixed drink with a twist to it and it was delicious!!! They had such a variety, not too sweet and a great mix and ratio of alcohol which, let's be honest not all places give you that. We had a big booth with lots of space and didn't feel like we were crammed in. I loved it! To be honest it looked a little grungy on the outside but I trust my friends and I am so glad I listened to them, it was a hidden gem that I may have passed up if I was by myself. I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Rob J.

Yelp
Gilbert makes a fabulous Negroni! Yeah! Try it you will love it here. The Manhattans were great too.
google avatar

Lauryn H.

Yelp
My beau and I often stop here after the gym (no that does not defeat the purpose of the workout) to satisfy our thirst before heading home to make dinner. We've gone the last two times on a late Sunday afternoon and have been surprised to find we have the entire bar to ourselves! They're some nice couches tucked under the windows that we always snag before the evening crowd begins to trickle in. Hands down favorite drink is the Summer Love, a yummy mint, cucumber, lime drink you can add tequila, gin or vodka to. It's truly the perfect refreshment after crushing it at the gym. The bartenders are always pleasant to talk to and they make quality drinks consistently each time we've been.

Yelp
Great local bar. Cocktails and draft veers. Can't comply! Great for anyone who wants a chill place!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my friend's neighborhood bars. I don't go to this area much, so I was happy to check out a new bar. The three of us came by on Friday, August 14th around 8:30pm for a round of drinks. *Resistenza: rye whiskey, Italian vermouth, amer, bitters ($10) *Old fashioned I adore the drinks and atmosphere here. Dark and sexy, but still comfy. We were able to find a table in the corner with was perfect! I love nights with good drinks and company. Good stiff drinks. And at $10 each?! I'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
We hosted a holiday party at Churchill for about 85 guests and it was a total hit! We reached out back in June to make the reservations and had smooth sailing from there! Jacobo was incredibly helpful in coordinating with our caterers. I arrived an hour before the start time to set up but found that the caterers had already been let in, food storage, disposal, and clean logistics were taken care of, and the bar was in perfect condition. Churchill offered the perfect balance of cleanliness and character. All staff, from bartenders and barbacks, to the front door person were friendly and helpful! The decorative lights and personalized menu were festive but not cliche. I would recommend this to anyone interested in hosting a mid to large get together of any kind! Drinks were tasty, music was on-point (we chose to let them DJ), layout was excellent with table, bar, and couch seating and enough floor space to mingle. Can't wait to host another event!! Thanks, Churchill!

Yelp
Surly asshole of a bartender looked down and barely interacted with bar patrons. Which is a red flag when you are, you know, a BARTENDER. I waited nearly 9 minutes (timed it) to order my drink on a Thursday evening. At one point, when he had walked by me for the 8th time without any sort of eye contact, acknowledgement etc., I decided to raise my hand as I used to do in grammar school. At that point, he finally (begrudgingly) took my order. As he brought me my drink, he said that he saw me and I needn't "stick my arm out." Clearly, I did need to do that, sir, because you had ignored me for the prior 10 mins. And you would've likely continued to do so had I not been an obnoxious bitch. In short: I've been in the neighborhood for nearly 15 years, have been going to Churchill since it opened. FFS, I even went out on an OkCupid date with the founder/owner dude in 2012 (super sweet guy, seems very committed and passionate about his businesses), but WOW - this bartender is definitely not an asset to this fine establishment. I will definitely avoid Churchill for any shifts he is bartending. A message to him: if you hate your job, quit. Don't sully the reputation of a chill, high quality neighborhood spot by ignoring patrons and giving attitude. For shame! 2 stars: 1 for his lackluster performance and rude presence and 3 because I still love Churchill and know it will be around longer than this dude will be working there.

Yelp
This place bailed me out last night I couldn't find a bar that had the game on just some college football and these guys had it but I also had a crazy outstanding draft soulection some really good cocktails the energy and the staff was awesome

Yelp
Great vibe and great cocktails. Especially nice on a weekday when you can have some privacy

Yelp
Pretty chill bar across from the Safeway. Wasnt too busy on a Saturday night and we got our drinks quick. Beers on the menu are from bottles and cans, beers on tap on the wall. Cocktails are $12 and they have happy hour specials 2-6 on the weekend and 4-7 on weekdays. Got a Moonlight and a Sudwerk, both pretty decent. My friend mentioned his drink had a bit too much head. They also have a pool table for $2 or $5 for 3 games. Overall seems like a lowkey place for drinks after work.

Yelp
Service rip off. I paid 20 dollar for double IPA Russian river. I not trusting bar ever again.

Yelp
Being a history buff and having visited the Cabinet War Room and the Churchill Museum in London, I had to check out Churchill - a new spot in the Triangle. Stopped by before heading over to the Red Devil for the Storm Large show, so didn't have time to hang and had only 1 drink. I would definitely come back here. The crowd was an interesting mix - and for some reason there seemed to be a lot of short people there. Not sure why, and I'm only 6' tall, but it seemed like there were only 2 or 3 persons taller than me there and a number of persons that were clearly in the 5' to 5'5" range. just an observation. The decor is 40's England WW2 bunker-ish and the drinks hail back to the classic of cocktails. Beer is served in mason jar like glasses, and martinis/Manhattans/etc are in old school saucer glasses. Prices were reasonable for SF - $8 for a well poured vodka tonic and $9 for the specialty drinks. Beer was also reasonably priced. A good selection - nice range of well to top shelf spirits (a good bourbon selection which always peaks my interest). And they have a good beer selection to with a variety to please almost any beer drinkers palette. I'll be certain to come back when I have more time. Churchill goes on my SF watering hole list along with Elixer, Alembic, and Black Horse.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great! Wasn't to crowded. The bartender made our piña coladas taste more like coffee. They remade my friends and well mines was already gone!!! Hahahahaha! In the area Check this spot out! You won't regret it!

Yelp
It's a chilled place, happy hour on Friday has good deals!! Nice for big gathering!! Ambiance is great. Clean bathroom!!

Yelp
Cool little bar right by the Castro. When you first walk in you get a dive bar vibe but they have a full cocktail list. The service was fast even on Halloween and the bartender was friendly. I got a piña colada from here just before hitting up the other bars in Castro which was a great start to the night.
