The Best Houston Restaurants With a View | Eater Houston

"If you’re looking for a new brunch spot with the best views, look no further. City Cellars returns in this new development in East River with an all-day menu filled with breakfast’s greatest hits and comforting dinner dishes. Houston chef Antoinette Williams-Wright prides herself on making everything fresh, including a stellar shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, a tower of challah French toast, and fresh, warm biscuits. Dinner also delights, with playful starters like Sriracha macaroni and cheese balls, followed by filling entrees like fall-of-the-bone short rib, crispy-skinned salmon, and chicken dishes you won’t regret. Pollo al Fuego is a beautiful assembly of grilled airline chicken breast with smoky chili puree and pickled red onions atop a creamy avocado verde. Here, every cheekily named cocktail has a story, but more than that, they taste good. Order the Birth Control or the Wrong Address to get the full story." - Brittany Britto Garley

Houston Restaurant Openings to Know Right Now, March 2025 | Eater Houston

"After nearly a two-year hiatus following its closure in July 2023, this bar-and-bistro reopened in a much larger spot in the East River mixed-use development as of early March. It offers all-day brunch with eight different styles of mimosas, a wine menu focused on independent wineries, and dishes like Sriracha macaroni-and-cheese balls, a 2-pound cinnamon roll, and brunch and "Cajun" boards stacked with items including fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and cornbread. Owner Daniel Wolfe, who originally opened the restaurant in the Museum District in late 2020, told the Houston Chronicle that the 2.0 version is more refined and will focus on "adult dining," meaning it’s only for ages 21 and up. The space includes a variety of seating options: indoor dining, a wrap-around patio, a patio garden, and dedicated zones for wine drinkers and live music." - Brittany Britto Garley

Fantastic food, cocktails, atmosphere, and service by Dom. Highly recommend this City Cellars, Chef Antoinette Wright is the real deal. Elevated Southern Comfort meets Global Cuisine. The Owner stopped by our table to check on us and is very passionate about the quality of food they put out. We can't wait to come try more. The crab cakes had an insane amount of crab meat and very little filler. The Fried Green Tomatoes, Gumbo, and Spinach Dip were all excellent. Entrées, Short Rib Grilled Cheese is not to be missed, the burger was outstanding, and the Banana French Toast was insanely great! Both Frozen Cocktails we had were top-notch. One of the best restaurants in East Downtown IMO. Something on the menu for everyone!

We decided to try City Cellars for Houston Restaurant Week. We had such a fantastic time! Our server TJ was amazing and made sure our glasses were never empty, food was hot and the vibes were flowing. The food was so good. My favorite were the lamb chops. Would definitely come back.

Great place for brunch! Had an amazing brunch with a ladies group and had the best server, Lucid. He welcomed us enthusiastically and was very attentive. He offered suggestions and was very nice. Food was amazing and huge portions! I could have split oma plate between two and had more than enough. Recommended for a group outing or day date.

Came for brunch and it was awesome! Restaurant and bathrooms were very clean, despite being there at it's busiest time. Food was DELICIOUS. Brunch menu kicks ass! I was there w 2 friends and we all eat very differently, and we were all so happy with our entrées.

Des was wonderful, the whole staff delivered great service as a team. The space was warm and inviting with live music just outside of the restaurant. There was a nice cross section of Houston; diverse but not overwhelming crowd . The food and drinks were delicious. We tried most of the signature cocktails, and I saw other tables enjoying bottles of wine. I love that the crab cakes were moist, flavorful, and more crab meat than filler. My friend wanted more of a crunchy outer crust, but I thought they were perfect. The jerked salmon was tender with texture, but it was more sweet than spiced. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back.

I’ve now visited City Cellar twice—both times with a reservation—and both times the service was painfully slow. Despite the restaurant not being at full capacity, it took an excessive amount of time to be greeted, place an order, and receive food. As other reviewers have noted, the kitchen pace is sluggish, and there’s no sense of urgency from the staff. The final straw came during Houston Restaurant Weeks. One person in our party wanted to order from the Restaurant Weeks menu, but we were told everyone at the table would be required to order from it if one person did. The reasoning? They claimed it was “a discount” and didn’t want people “sharing food without getting the full meal.” This was petty to begin with—but in our case, the second person in the two-person party was a tentative guest who would be arriving much later, meaning there was zero risk of sharing food. Despite this, they still insisted on enforcing the policy. To make matters worse, they openly stated this was also an effort to “get their cost per customer up,” which is not the customer’s problem—especially when the event is a fundraiser for charity, not a coupon special. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was given the runaround and eventually had someone pulled from the kitchen—who was clearly not management—come speak with me instead. The approach felt evasive, unprofessional, and frankly, disrespectful. Between the chronic slow service, petty and misinformed policies, and lack of transparency from staff, I cannot recommend City Cellar. Houston has too many restaurants that deliver both quality food and respectful, attentive service to waste time and money here.

This is a perfect spot for brunch and dinner. Aside from their amazing and tasty food, it has a great view of the Houston skyline. The beauty is different during daytime and nighttime, but both are beautiful. Back to the food, we tried the roasted chicken (the serving size was small, but the chicken and the potatoes were well-seasoned and they tasted soo good) and calamari. It was a bit pricey though, but it’s a price you pay for good food, good ambience, good service, and good and talented live singer. I went to their restroom and it was soo nice too! Their paper towels were premium and thick, they felt like cotton. Overall, it was a great experience. This is perfect for a date night or just enjoying the skyline while sipping wine or drinking. Will definitely come back here.

This place has been in my Bookmarks for a while. Cool spot with great views of the City. It's in a mixed use development that still has space to fill. We came last minute, it was busy so we opted for the Bar to avoid waiting. Food was solid. Nothing to rave about but I would come back to try things I saw. Loved the vibe & diversity of the crowd. Bartender was very friendly. It was a bit loud inside due to the acoustics. They have a nice Patio that I would enjoy....just not in July LOL.
