Best New Restaurants in Greenville, South Carolina, Right Now - Eater Carolinas

"Small-batch ice cream made locally now has two locations — and neither are downtown. The first location is in Historic Overbrook and the second, which is brand new, is in the Parkins Mill neighborhood, not far away. The honey lavender ice cream feels instantly classic and affordably priced scoops are a tenant of the company. Owner Caitlin Clare went to ice cream school at Penn State and started with an ice cream bike just a couple of years ago." - Stephanie Burnette

Google
This place is my favorite!! Without question the absolute best ice cream and the cookie sandwiches are to die for. A very well run ice cream shop! Highly recommend!!

Clarity

Google
I absolutely adore their ice cream. The honey lavender is So good! You should drive out of the way for this place. The ice cream is super super thick and creamy, not overly sweet, and incredibly delicious. I love ice cream and this is probably one of the best shops ever like way better than marble slab. We are super lucky to have it in town. It seriously makes my day when when we are in the area and my husband buys me a cone. Not a single grocery store ice cream is this good, I’ve looked!

Jay Walker

Google
I’m sorry but this ice cream definitely didn’t cut it! Very fattening tasting for an ice cream, bland, and hard. Me and my wife got the waffle cones and that was flavorless as well. If you want truly great ice cream try Jeni’s Ice cream.

Randall Blizzard

Google
This was an interesting ice cream experience. We first order the Honey Lavender and the Teddy Graham. Both of which we thought were delightful. So we decided to order the trio taster and got the raspberry chip, the mint chip, and the caramel brownie…. these were all disappointing and rather bland. The Mint chip had no flavor of mint at all. We then heard another table talk about the seasonal Lemon Cookie flavor, so we got samples of that and loved it! Even if you’re ordering a flavor you typically like, I say taste it first because it may not hit the spot for you. But if you keep tasting, you’ll likely find something to enjoy. Regardless of ice cream taste; the place was clean and well kept. we enjoyed sitting outdoors at the picnic tables, and the staff were all incredibly friendly and kind.

Google
I'd go here everyday if my health didn't matter! The best ice cream around!! I love the classic hot fudge sundae, but this last visit I tried the black cherry float. Simply, deliciously one of my favorite desserts. If you haven't been here, you are REALLY missing out.

Google
This is some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. All kinds of cool and unique flavors. I got banana with hot fudge and sprinkles. Wife got honey vanilla mixed with honey lavender. Both were excellent and high quality. You can get many different sizes and cup vs cone. Prices are fair. The atmosphere is great, very bright with big windows. Inside is clean and the staff is super friendly. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Google
Ice cream is your average homemade, nothing outstanding but better than the typical hershey's or blue bunny. They can't even bother to list their seasonal or weekly flavors and they don't answer their phone. We won't waste a trip there just to find out they don't have what we want. No atmosphere.

Google
Amazing ice cream and incredible sundaes! The peanut butter cup sundae is always impossible to resist! One of our favorite ice cream spots in all of Greenville, and we have definitely visited plenty. Highly recommend Clare's for anyone that loves ice cream like us!

Yelp
I got the Lemon Cookie in a waffle cone and it was AWESOME. Best Lemon I've had. Staff was friendly and polite. I liked the ice cream so much that I got more to take home.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream place in town! My favorite flavor is the honey lavender, but I like trying the new seasonal flavors too! The shop is so cute and very family friendly! Everyone there is willing to help and make the experience a good one.

Yelp
Let's simplify this: Every couple has their "thing". Since we travel for work, my wife and going for ice cream in every new city is our "thing". So its not just about the ice cream, its the full experience: #1 Quality #2 Service #3 Atmosphere #4 is Price Quality. I had a Honey Lavender, Chocolate Peanut Butter, & Caramel Fudge Brownie ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone (I like to go big or go home). I enjoyed the consistency because it wasnt super airy like the ones you would taste from the freezer section at walmart (yuck). The less airy or "fluffy" it is, typically the easier it is to get a good sense of the actual flavor. The flavors were pretty good and so much so, that returned the next day to get more. Service. Both days we went they were packed with a line thatbpractically went out the door. Despite so many people in one place, the employees had the urgency to provide quick service but were also patient with us considering how new we were to their shop. They gladly offer samples of any of their flavors which is perfect for first-timers who are unsure what to choose from. Atmosphere. Both nights we went were quite crowded but still everything was pretty nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Everything is kept clean. I thought the flower-shaped tables in front of the bench seats were fixated to the ground and at almost the cost of my 3-scoop Ice Cream I thankfully found out they're not. Price. We paid $12.84 before the tip. Final thoughts: I give it a 4 only because though it was exceptional, it didnt knock my socks off. A couple of the flavors seemed to have a little more of a milky taste (i.e. Honey Lavender & Honey Vanilla, while Coffee & Cream tasted more like cream than coffee). There seems to be a clear split in taste in Greenville between Clare's and Jeni's. You either love one or the other but I think in Greenville, Clare's is definitely the town favorite.

Yelp
The premium local ice cream of Greenville sits in a shopping center on the edge of town with indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu was large and included a few vegan flavors. I was a bit puzzled that all of their sundaes and things were listed as being made only with vanilla ice cream, though presumably if you asked for something else it wouldn't be a big deal. I sample a mint chip and a raspberry chip (I like chocolate chips). While mint is my jam, theirs was oddly muted in flavor. The raspberry, conversely, exploded with tartness and unexpected herbal notes. My ice cream was also remarkably resistant to melting. This was a thick, rich cream. While the mint didn't really do it for me, there were definitely plenty of flavors worth trying.

Yelp
Eden was so welcoming when I walked into their store. That's what I call great customer service. They truly have the nicest staff and the best ice cream and charming atmosphere with beautiful pastel color interior. Super clean store! They have my vote for the best ice cream and service in Greenville!!!! I highly recommend Clare's!!!

Yelp
Still fantastic! 2 years later, they are great with so many unique flavors. Loved the raspberry chocolate chip, but the honey chia latte is really yummy! Hand made cones and lots of tastes prior! Great friendly service and delightful decor! Wish we did not live 13 hours away!

Yelp
This place my boyfriend and I found out about and whenever we crave ice cream...(one or twice every two weeks) we go to Clare's creamery! Although it has started to get busy, the service has always been excellent! So many flavors to choose from and workers are always so so nice! This place is my desert hot spot this summer! (summer of 2023) My go to is one scoop of teddy graham and one scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough! Delicious! They have many different flavors and toppings to choose from as well as many cup sizes and waffle cones!

Yelp
We absolutely love this place. Greenville seems to be split between Clare's and Jeni's for ice cream but we've always been team Clare's! We always bring out-of-town guests and they always rave about it - so much so we've even come back for a second visit during their stays. I've never had trouble getting a spot right out front, but there's also the entire church parking lot across the street. Variety of flavor and tons of seasonal flavors to change things up. Lots of yummy vegan options too which is important for family with restrictions. Anyone complaining about how bland their flavors were must have not asked for a sample first. Seems like an easy fix to me!

Martha R.

Yelp
I love visiting this spot when I am in town. The flavor choices are unique and they make fun creations (like the 8 scoop mega celebration special). I typically order a seasonal flavor but the classics are yummy. They provide sample spoons so you can try before you commit to the scoop. They have a few seats inside and a few tables outside so you can enjoy the weather while you snack. The scoopers behind the counter are very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
Lovely little ice cream spot. The person working was very accommodating with the little kids I brought in. Samples were handed out and very tedious requests about the colour of the spoons were handled in stride. Sadly a bit out of my usual path, but I plan to return. They have dairy free options!

Yelp
After reading so many rave reviews on Google and Yelp, we came in to try some different flavors. The place is super cute and the employees were very nice. Ordered 4 flavors in total and we're excited to sit down and get wowed. Unfortunately none of the different flavors had any ... well... flavor. They were all bland. We tried each others scoops and everyone agreed there was little flavor between them. So bland we ended throwing them away mostly uneaten, which is a cardinal sin for ice cream lovers. Not sure where the disconnect is between our experience and the overwhelmingly amazing reviews, but I doubt we'll be back :-(

Yelp
Clare's ice cream certificate at Penn State is serving her well! PSU Creamery ice cream is phenomenal and so is Clare's DF coconut chocolate! Great blessing at the wedding!
google avatar

Caroline A.

Yelp
A favorite local dessert spot. I am one of the unlucky people that can't handle dairy well, but the dairy free coconut ice cream is perfect so I can't complain!
google avatar

Lori L.

Yelp
This place is the cutest. Small but inviting. The girls here were so sweet and we were able to try samples. They do also have a little water station if you need it. I got the trio-honey vanilla, chocolate, and the orange creamsicle. I wish I would of skipped the chocolate and got the banana. The chocolate was good but super thick and rich for me. The banana was really good. Honey vanilla tasted so fresh and the orange creamsicle really tasted like the real thing. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Super cute ice cream shop with amazing ice cream in interesting flavors- vanilla honey is a must try. They have the cutest dining room and outdoor seating. And they support great causes in our community. Definitely recommend.

Adel F.

Yelp
Always a pleasurable experience at Clare's. I like to get the flavors of the day/week. I have tried a good selection and they never disappoint. Friendly, clean and delicious!

Jen S.

Yelp
Fantastic location, beautiful store and well ran/friendly staff! The ice cream is quite literally the best we've tasted and I love that we're supporting a local family and their business. Well done, Clare's! Definitely add this to your must do list when in Greenville!

Yelp
Great locally made, fresh ice cream. We were greater by friendly employees in a clean, bright, and inviting atmosphere. There is seating inside and out. Options include cup, cone, sandwiches, and more.
google avatar

Sita S.

Yelp
Everything, is top notch here. This is the best of best ice cream and they have dairy free! We had the Coconut Vanilla and Mango... so creamy and delicious. One in a dish and one on waffle cone! Yum! Wonderful staff, who were kind and clearly liked their job... probably having happy customers helps a ton. The shop is adorable! The seating, wall decor, pink faucet in the bathroom give the perfect modern Parlor feel. I will be back. And if you haven't already, go here! It is YUM!

Mitch D.

Yelp
I'm not an ice cream affectionato like many of the folks posting but the ice cream is in my opinion excellent and high quality. This is an awesome little neighborhood place that's clean beyond a fault and the people are very friendly. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
We came by for their celebration of ice cream for breakfast day. It was 31° outside, but we waited in line outdoors to get the chance to try the ice cream, and it was worth it. The service was fast and friendly and the selection of different ice creams was very impressive! They even had a really great selection of non-dairy! I got the trio, which I think was the best value since I got to try three different excellent flavors! I tried the coconut non-dairy, which was absolutely delicious. I think I could eat an entire container of it! The honey lavender was also delicious with the herbiness and the sweetness perfectly balanced. The raspberry chocolate chip was okay. It would have been fantastic, except I had a lot of ice particles in mine, which just so happens to be something I take a lot of issue with. The location had ample parking across the street, and there were a few tables to sit at inside. Very cute, and I will definitely go back
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
The service is reasonably fast, though, be aware, there is no where other than in a line out front to wait. 8 people were in front of us. It was a 22 min wait. There are a few(3-5) tables inside and a couple outside. No place for us, so we went back to our car. The product is good. A scoop is the size of an ice cream scoop. No mega scoop. That was $4+. Cold water available is a plus, especially if you can eat your ice cream nearby.
google avatar

Brandon T.

Yelp
Incredible ice cream. It's a bit too addicting. Their customer service is incredible and I honestly love the size of the shop. They're Texas pecan ice cream is my favorite and I love their sundaes. One of these days I'm going to need to try a milkshake
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
Great locally made fresh ice cream. We were greeted by very friendly, and sweet employees in a clean, bright, inviting, and lovely atmosphere. There is seating inside, and out. Ice cream is freshly made on the premises, many different and unique flavors! They have one flavor so,so good, Biscot (spelling??) flavored after a girl scout cookie, I was skeptical, I tried it and it was awesome! I froze some, and took it on my 2-3 hour drive home! I also recommend the honey vanilla, and honey lavender! We will be returning!

Ben H.

Yelp
Best ice cream in the Greenville area. Homemade, high quality ingredients. Friendly service. Can't go wrong.

Yelp
Really cute ice cream shop! I love the colors on the inside and what the staff were wearing. Staff were very friendly and super fast. There is seating on the inside and the outside. They have a great choice of ice creams and some seasonal flavors like honey lavender! Definitely would like to come in to try. Waffle cones were $1 extra, just so you all know. I wish they were a little more thicker. The ice cream was good but it wasn't amazing. It tasted a little more icy than creamy to me. I'm sure they will continue to work on their creams. I will definitely come back to support. They have some sundaes that look fantastic!

R F.

Yelp
Super cute ice cream shop and great service! They had some great flavors to choose from, with a few seasonal items too. I felt like my ice cream was a bit muted in flavor, but it was very creamy. The shop is very small, so there isn't too much seating when it gets busy, and there are also some tables outside.

Jill Y.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and beautiful shop. My boyfriend and I stopped here after having dinner at a nearby restaurant. The staff was very friendly and all of the flavors looked great. They had a mix of classics like cookie dough and other more unique flavors like the honey lavender. Both were delicious and definitely a flavor for everyone. The ice cream shop itself is very picturesque as well. I love that they do local collaborations for a holistic small business approach. Would definitely recommend and will be back!

Jaime M.

Yelp
Service was great ! Atmosphere is great to hangout with family and friends ! Great place to go for a sweet tooth run !

Brenna A.

Yelp
Loved! Got a double scoop waffle cone and it was DELISH! Tried a few additional flavors - all so good! Tasted fresh.

R.B. G.

Yelp
Some of the best ice cream I've had. The coconut nondairy ice cream is crazy good for any ice cream, not just non-dairy!
google avatar

Lucy C.

Yelp
Hands down the best ice cream in Greenville!! Without a doubt. All flavors are completely homemade and so yummy!! Be sure to check out anything seasonal. They're phenomenal!
google avatar

Amber D.

Yelp
We are visiting from California and our son loves ice cream so we found this spot and decided to try it out. My husband and I are ice cream snobs and it takes a lot for us to be impressed and want to splurge on calories for ice cream. But I will admit the ice cream here is worth the splurge! It's up there with the best that we have tasted! We had the chocolate peanut butter and the salted caramel. Sooooo good!! Also, I have to give a shout-out to the employee named Brian. He went above and beyond to make sure not only we made the best choices for ourselves but I listened to him talk to people after us and ask questions to find out what would be the best option for their specific palate. I really appreciate that he did that and went above and beyond just scooping ice cream. Check this place out! Great ice cream and great customer service!!

Curtrik W.

Yelp
Another great discovery in Greenville. Clare's is the real deal. Numerous flavors and creative combos. Our favorite- Honey & Lavendar ice cream. Family friendly, indoor & outdoor seating. One of the cleanest facilities including bathrooms I've seen. Clearly a pride of ownership. Don't walk but run to Clare's Creamery North Street. Easily a FIVE STAR.

E K.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream! We had chocolate, raspberry chocolate chip, coffee and cream and salted caramel. All were so creamy and tasty!

John M.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream and friendly service! Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Great place to take the kids or grandkids.

Yelp
We ordered a turtle Sunday. Lots of pecans on top. I'm not a big fan of nuts but my wife loves them. The ice cream was very smooth and flavorful. A little high priced but that's the story these days. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only problem I had was discovering a banana split after eating the Sunday. Guess I'll get that next time.
google avatar

B K.

Yelp
This is a cute little spot in a cute neighborhood. The ice cream is fantastic -- really fresh and delicious, and super creamy. They have some good flavors, especially the chocolate chip and banana flavors. Other people I went with were a little disappointed in the selection and said it seemed there was a lack of variety. I was happy with them though! I'm definitely a repeat customer!
google avatar

Mim D.

Yelp
I've visited Clare's twice. Once in November and once this month. Both times I was impressed with the customer service and the really delicious ice cream. Their seasonal flavor of coffee and cream is the best coffee ice cream I have ever had and I've had a lot! The cookies and cream is super good too. In November they had peppermint ice cream which is so hard to find. It was excellent. As we were enjoying our ice cream I saw they have a giant sundae with 8 scoops something that I got with my friends 20 years ago at a local ice cream shop that is no more. I can't wait to come back with my family for a birthday and share it!
google avatar

Todd C.

Yelp
Née local business! Plus the ice cream is amazing! I need to pull back how frequently we come here. It's been 3 times this week. So good!

Luca K.

Yelp
Loved it. Awesome ice cream. Wanted to treat my dad to some ice cream and he didn't want any when we were in the car driving home I didn't hear a single word till his waffle cone was destroyed. He then proceeds to call everyone he knows telling them how it's the best ice cream he has ever had. I had the coconut and it was amazing, it tasted just like a fresh coconut. The girl that was helping me was very sweet and kind. We will definitely be making more trips here. 11/10. A+!
google avatar

Heleyna H.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this little ice cream spot in Greenville, SC! I showed up around 6pm with a line out the door and they got me in and out with some great coffee flavored ice cream! Couldn't be happier!
google avatar

Sandra S.

Yelp
I am a bit of an ice cream snob so I prefer to visit only homemade ice cream shops. This one is fabulous! Their waffle cones are perfectly crisp and the ice cream is creamy and delicious. I had a single scoop split with lemon and caramel fudge brownie baby scoops. I loved them both but the caramel fudge brownie was especially good. The only issue is the parking because it is so busy, but it is worth it. I will definitely be back!

Tracy S.

Yelp
I loved the different flavors of ice cream; they were very tasty. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because none of the employees wore glove. They were handling the ice cream cones that we eat with their bare hands. That is a very unsanitary practice; especially when touching the register and other items throughout the store. I plan on returning, but please incorporate the use of gloves.

John P.

Yelp
Best ice cream I've had in any city. I had Reese's Peanut Butter and my wife had the coconut dairy free which is the only dairy free option she's ever tried that was actually delicious. Waffle cones tasted light and fresh. Beautiful and cheerful corner store with with excellent teen servers. This is not good news for the waistline.

Charlotte N.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The ice cream is super creamy and worth the meager $5 they charge. Anything you get will be incredible!

Gabrielle C.

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop with yummy seasonal flavors. Fresh made waffle cones :) personally not 5 stars bc I'm a "I'd like a cone with scoops the size of my face" person and theirs are definitely a healthier portion than that not scrimpy but I could definitely eat 5 of them
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
My wife and love the ice cream here! The dairy free chocolate is my favorite (I'm lactose intolerant). My wife loves the Teddy Graham.

Allison M.

Yelp
Super cute decor. Delicious! Amazing flavor options. They have the regular year round flavors along with seasonal. I'm craving another scoop right now. All ice cream is made in house.

Bennett W.

Yelp
Outstanding staff, sparkling clean environs, and creamy delicious ice cream combined to make our visit an enjoyable and satisfying experience. The ice cream was excellent and the offerings included a variety of flavors, including some uncommon options. Will look forward to visiting again when in the area.
