Revitalized diner with elevated comfort fare and house-baked pastries

"Clark Street Bread’s Zach Hall took over 101 Coffee Shop in 2021 and has since transformed the storied Hollywood hang into a certifiable breakfast destination complete with great coffee and memorable pancakes. Best of all, the retro dining room retains all of its original charm." - Rebecca Roland

"Although Angelenos will probably always mourn the loss of the iconic 101 Diner, Zach Hall’s Clark Street Diner has not missed a beat in keeping the space alive. The 1970s touches — camel-colored booths and a jagged stone wall — were refreshed during the changeover without losing their charm. The menu updates nostalgic diner classics, from fluffy buttermilk pancakes made with Sonoran flour to avocado toast on Clark Street seeded sourdough. It doesn’t rely on nostalgia alone; it’s made a new name for itself among the great diners of Los Angeles. Weekend lines can get long, so expect a wait during peak hours." - Eater Staff

"Formerly the celebrity haunt 101 Coffee Shop, this diner kept much of its mid-century charm when it transitioned to its current iteration in 2021. Located at the foot of the Adler hotel in Hollywood, it still has a menu categorized by greasy spoon staples, including a behemoth all-day breakfast list kicked up with griddle classics like a crisp almond-flour-blend waffle and challah French toast; omelets and two-egg plates; bagel platters; and Angeleno-coded dishes such as chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. The morning and late-night hours might be the busiest but if you go between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. expect a slower, family-friendly environment with kids poring over whipped-cream-topped milkshakes and coloring paper. Lunch and dinner wouldn’t be complete without an order of buffalo wings, which are twice the size of any other chicken wing in Los Angeles and liberally sauced. Pair those with an old-school tuna or patty melt, Cobb salad, or Reuben, and you’ll get the full experience." - Eater Staff
"There's something about an old-timey diner that softens people. Maybe it's something about the black coffee and the sounds of hashbrowns sizzling that get people to decompress before their lunch break. Whatever it is, Clark Street Dine has it. Come to his Hollywood spot (previously the iconic 101 Coffee Shop) to sit in a vintage leather booth that sinks under your butt just a bit. It's an ideal place to read the news by yourself or have a morning meeting over juicy patty melts, corned beef, and excellent sugar-dusted pastries that get all over your shirt, including some chewy monkey bread." - nikko duren, brant cox, sylvio martins
"One of our favorite bakeries in the city, Clark Street, took over the old 101 Coffee Shop and did exactly what everyone in LA hoped they would: they kept the space exactly the same. You’ll still find vintage leather booths, a wraparound bar, and classic stone wall (you know, real old-school diner stuff) only now the food is better. The menu is smaller than the old 101 one, but everything is higher quality—all the bread comes on their signature Clark Street baguettes and toasts, plus they have a fantastic patty melt loaded with freshly ground beef, swiss cheese, and some grilled onions that we haven’t stop dreaming about since eating." - brant cox
