13 Halal-Friendly Dining Destinations in and Around New Orleans

"The exciting return of Cleo’s French Quarter location in February 2023 after a three-year pandemic shutter also marks the return of one of the area’s most elegant halal dining experiences. It’s a stylish, sit-down version of the grab-and-go store located on Canal Street, and it has reopened on Decatur with a revamped halal menu geared towards a French Quarter crowd, adding a significant number of seafood specialties as well. While we hope late-night hours will return eventually, Cleo’s on Decatur is currently open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono

The vegan food here is amazing! If the vegan option is this good, I can only imagine how the meat dishes taste. I tried the fried eggplant platter, and it was incredibly filling highly recommend it if you’re vegan. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in NOLA!

As a vegan, I truly appreciated this restaurant. The food was very delicious and the presentation was wonderful. The staff was very kind and also very accommodating. My waiter was super friendly, as I was there for Essence Music Festival, and he was asking me questions about it; he showed interest in me as a restaurant guest. I highly recommend this restaurant due to their delicious food, friendly staff, and menu options. Their vegan options are amazing, and it’s always so refreshing having vegan options in New Orleans. I will be back next time I am visiting New Orleans!

Ordered an appetizer and an entree and absolutely loved the food. This looks like it’s a newly built and opened restaurant. I would definitely recommend giving them a visit if you love some Mediterranean food.

The restaurant has a good style and potential, the staff kind of ruins the experience. We were seated by a friendly, appropriate dressed person but our server had dirty crocs and a bad mood. Food was served in time, but the taste was moderate. 20% Service fee as well, no choice. Recommend Royal Wings and Gyros as an alternative.

Cleo’s Mediterranean is a gem if you are looking for a break from traditional! Just off lower Canal on Decatur, Cleo’s is walkable from anywhere in the Quarter, or the Business District. For our meal, we had the hummus, roasted cauliflower, and chicken shawarma with tzatziki. The pita is perfectly puffy and light, the hummus creamy and tzatziki zesty! The chicken shawarma was perfectly season. This was a nice light meal on a hot New Orleans August evening. Just what we were looking for. Props to Orion, our host for excellent hospitality and service!

After you get tired of shrimp and grits, Poboys, gumbo and étouffée try some fresh new flavors. The food was well seasoned and well prepared. None of the seafood or meat was overcooked. It was just right. The yellow rice and hummus are delicious. Seating and service was fast. In fact I’m surprised this place isn’t more crowded. It would be a nice for groups. There is a natural gas smell when you first walk in that they should look into. The first night the hostess was friendly attentive and fast. However on 08/01 the beautiful long haired hostess took a while to warm up. She seemed distracted or annoyed at first. She was short tempered and seemed 2 when greeting 2 guests. They actually left about 10 minutes later due to the lack of attention they received. We knew the food was good and it was our last night in town so we decided to stay and hope things got better for us and it did. This place is definitely worth a try but needs to be aware that first impressions are a big deal so the host needs to make guests feel welcomed.
