Clever Coyote

Cool spot to hang out, especially during Happy Hour with their $8 menu specials (even though it does add up!) Play games, hang out with friends and people watch. The burgers, wings and nachos are good. The drinks are good too (except the black, charcoal one). Had a great time here.

I visited for the first time this weekend. I was impressed with the cozy atmosphere. The server was very patient and friendly. Their board games were such an adorable touch to the place. As for the food, it was delicious! Their drink menu is also super creative.

I'm not going to lie, the ambiance is a bit yuppie/fratty but I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of the cocktails and the food despite the simple appearance. We had the Oaxacan on Broken, the Purple Rain, and the Toyko Sour. For food we did the cajun dry rub. 10 out of 10. All 10 out of 10. Drinks and food are $8 at happy hour, and I'll definitely be adding this one to my rotation. There is also The Up Room on the 14th floor that has a night atmosphere, and the view is incredible.

Such a cool spot within the hotel! Slightly hidden and subdued, it had cool hangout vibes catering to many different age ranges and styles. It’s low lit and cozy, with a pool table and various vignettes to sit in. While we did end up finding a seat, it was definitely full when we arrived. The drinks were all very unique and delicious! Definitely somewhere I’d consider stopping again.

Nick the bartender was great, drinks were delicious and the food was good. 7 dollar happy hour that is a crime to miss. Has a cool view and view games/ board games as well!

They tried kicking our group out an hour before close! Never spending my money there again. Also the server was super inattentive and brought my drink to the wrong side of the table which would explain why I thought I never got it. Drinks were so weak that we couldn’t tell what liquor was in them, and yes that was my first drink of the night so I wasn’t just misreading the situation or not tasting the alcohol bc I was drunk. Giving this a GENEROUS 2 stars. Boo on you guys.

Cool, easy to find spot, with good seating and service. The “Sazerac” and “Purple Rain” drinks were really good to sip on while playing pool. There was a Street Fighter 2 arcade game that I should have taken advantage of. The music was 90’s - early 00’s pop. The spot would be top notch if there was some underground hip-hop like Jedi Mind Tricks or anything similar vs the Backstreet Boys and Lit. It’s otherwise a good spot and I’d return when I’m in the area again.

This is a really chill place to hang out, right above the Café Robe on the second floor. They play a lot of great 90's music you'll recognize if you're a millennial, and the volume isn't so ridiculous that you can't talk to anyone. They have a pool table and a Street Fighter II arcade game for 2 players, so you can smash your date without charges. Drinks are a bit expensive. We had the Black Hole Sun and the Purple Rain. Purple Rain was sort of gross, but the Black Hole Sun was good - sort of like a Margarita.

We came with a group of 7 on a Saturday evening for happy hour and had an awesome time! Their happy hour deals are amazing ($8 drinks and appetizers). Our group ordered a lot of the different drinks. We really enjoyed the Purple Rain, Sucker Punch & Black Hole Sun. We also ordered several appetizers. The fried pickles were the star of the food. Our server was excellent. It's a fun vibe and a great spot to enjoy happy hour! After our drinks we went up to the rooftop to check out the views of downtown from the roof. Super cool place! I'd highly recommend if you find yourself in Wicker Park!

Cute spot, I could hang here and read a book or have a conversation with a friend. They have pool tables and a solid assortment of cocktails for $8 happy hour. I got the wings with adobo seasoning and they were trash. Looked like something I pulled out of the freezer at home and tasted worse. I'd come again for the ambience but not the food/drinks

Some Yelpers in the know mentioned Clever Coyote, and my lovely wife and I wanted to check this place out recently. Clever Coyote is located on the second floor of the Robey Hotel, and I dare say that this is a cool hidden gem of a place in Wicker Park. Amazingly, they have a Happy Hour deal every day from 5 to 7PM, and that includes weekends my friends. Virtually all of their drinks and food items are $8. For drinks we tried the Black Hole Sun (served in a cool-looking skull vessel), the semi-strong Rye Tai, the unique Purple Rain, and the very strong Oaxacan on Broken Glass. We also had a plate of barbacoa nachos, loaded with toppings if not liquor. Considering the very decent and buzzing crowd this Friday evening, we thought the level of service was rather efficient. Come for a drink and keep an eye out for the Blue Line passing by the windows.

What an awesome spot, especially for happy hour! Clever Coyote is located inside The Robey on the second floor. It's a relatively small place but doesn't seem it when you're there. They have a pool table, tables/couches, and have a speakeasy type of vibe and feel to it. They have a daily happy hour deal from 5-7pm where everything on the menu is $8. We got so many drinks and 2 apps and spent less than $100 which is unheard of!! Our server was awesome too, he was super personable and chill. I don't have a bad thing to say. I will totally be back!

Great spot for happy hour. 2nd time hanging out here. Prices are good. Happy Hour runs every night 5 to 7pm. HH menu has food and drinks. This bar is on the second floor of the Robey. Vibe is good. Retro video games and other entertaining apparatuses. Decor is hip, comfy and casual. Workers are laid back and not pretentious.

Seven days a week, from 5-7, they do an $8 happy hour on all items, excluding the big fish bowl drink. It's a great way to taste their excellent drinks and grab some nosh on the cheap. I have bragged this up because it's just a great deal in a fun environment.

Definitely a cute HH spot to hit up for cheap bites, low vibes and fun games. The ambiance is chill and the attendees aren't too loud. I wouldn't suggest coming alone as the crowd isn't a place where you can mingle and make friends. More so come with your own crew. The food is pretty good for the $8 HH. I appreciate the staff. Super chill but very busy. I recommend they had two bartenders on shift as we did wait a while for the bartender to place our order because she was that busy serving others.

I went to Clever Coyote for my first time on Friday and it did not disappoint! I came for drinks with a girlfriend and it was the perfect spot for it. I ordered the Purple Rain and it was delightful and very tasty! I will say the music was a bit loud but other than that, the experience was really good. I enjoyed that the lights were dimmed as it made the ambience really nice. In addition, they decorated for Halloween which I thought was really cute too. Definitely recommend the Clever Coyote for a night out for drinks and apps!

Small size bar with decent drinks and great selection if free games. Rating 8/10 Cost $15 a drink (happy hour $8). Group of 5 went in just for fun and enjoyed the atmosphere. There is a fighting game, pool, board games, and a shuffle board, the interior is simple but cute. Drinks are okay some hit some miss but the Black Sun Skull was best. Staff are nice and know how to make their drinks, little busy for happy hour 5-7. Would stop by when in the area to kill an hour.

Stopped in the other night with a roommate for happy hour (awesome prices btw everything on the menu is $8!) and loved the food. We had the nachos and loved them so much we ordered more. The atmosphere is really nice with the decor as well as the "game" theme. Also has some decent views of the building around.

Great spot for any occasion. Low lighting and even free pool. This place has great vibes, really chill, hybrid verse a bar and lounge.

I can't speak for what was in this space prior, but my friends and I were looking for a spot to grab a drink, and I didn't realize this place was on the second floor of this hotel with beautiful big windows to look around from. At night I'd imagine this place to look pretty nice given the lighting on the ceiling, but overall it was nice. Just a little too basic for me. I think they can definitely do more with the space, but we enjoyed our time nonetheless. Our drink orders definitely took a long time to come out however which was a little annoying, but we liked our drinks. They have chicken wings and I believe bao buns in case you are hungry, but we didn't order food here. I'll return in the future, but at night! PS - there is a pool table as well!

came here for drinks with a friend and had a great time!! the bar is located on the second floor of a hotel. the interior was cozy with a variety of tables & seating. there was also pool tables and shuffleboard. we both tried the sucker punch first then the tokyo sour and purple rain. the sucker punch was the fan favorite. the two cocktails alone left me feeling tipsy! will definitely be coming back for another drink!

I really liked this bar - it was a great place to stop in for a drink. The visual menu was cute and helped us decide what we wanted. I see some of the previous reviewers have said makes it seem like this place "ruined" a previously special place, but I still think the bar is a nice place to visit. It's true that the single arcade game is a bit odd, but there is also pool and a shuffleboard table for groups to play. And if you don't want to play games, you can always just sit at a table and enjoy chatting with friends.

The Robey Hotel is a lovely hotel property but apparently if you need to get any work done in the afternoon, you'll have to stay in your room or go across the street to Starbucks or Foxtrot. I stopped in at 3:30pm on a Monday to order (and pay for!) some food and drink while finshing some work, but was told there are no laptops allowed. I can see where that might be enforced after 5pm, but during the afternoon? This place used to be a lounge - mostly for hotel guests I'd think - in the morning / afternoon and a nice cocktail bar at night. I'd often do afternoon work meetings there that would usually turn into drinks. I'm quite sure this new spot "Clever Coyote" also has great drinks and food as others have said, but don't go there expecting to escape the drudgery of your home office and work with a drink. Kind of sad, because there really aren't any comparable places without going to the west loop or downtown. Note that at 3:30pm, the place was empty except for staff talking about promising promotional themes. Don't get me wrong, I will probably come back here when I don't have to work and enjoy their delicious tiki drinks, but this "clever" policy makes the property seem pretty unfriendly to the neighborhood and business travelers alike.

My friend and I went for happy hour and will definitely be back. The drinks and food are $8 and didn't disappoint. The drinks are unique and strong. We got their chips and queso which was a good pre-dinner snack. We were surprised it wasn't busier. The bar has a pool table, shuffle board and some other games.

Cute new "tiki" bar located on the 2nd floor of The Robey hotel. There is limited seating at the bar itself but there's plenty of other seating via tables and sofas. It's a pretty spacious and open layout. Drinks were not bad, a little inconsistent when we went but it was only the second day it opened. I'd say it's very loosely a tiki bar through the menu. The vibe and decor is modern and boutique-ee just like the hotel. The music was interesting... it went from cool hip hop to random 90s songs like the Macarena? lol. Oh there's also a pool table which was pretty cool and the servers were super nice.

Ahh! This is the first Tiki bar to open in Chicago since Lost Lake closed in Logan Square. This is a small space on the 2nd. fl. Dishes are Asian inspired. Staff and service is superb.

Ruined one of the best spots in Chicago. This was such a great lounge and now it's been turned into just another of 1000 generic bars. The worst location transformation I've ever seen. Went from a mid-century modern sleek and cool vibe to a try-hard bar stool nothing. Complete with a single awkward and unnecessary arcade game. This bar is the equivalent of hearing your favorite Indie band's music used in a minivan commercial. Whoever is responsible should not be put in charge of anything important anywhere. In the end it's just a bar and not the end of the world....but it's a real bummer to see someone take a well-designed space in a city like Chicago - which is known for good design - and devolve it into a college-town-pizza-pub-who-gives-a-damn. Especially when it's in a hotel as awesome and iconic as The Robey. I'm embarrassed for them. And if you don't care about what it used to be and are just looking for a good bar, there are tons of far better options all around.
