This family-owned restaurant offers a unique Detroit square pizza experience. The service provided is truly commendable and creates a welcoming atmosphere. The pizza itself boasts a remarkably crunchy and buttery crust that is a delight to eat. While the pizza is highly recommended, the Greek salad could benefit from some improvements. Overall, it's a worthwhile dining experience for pizza lovers.

Google
Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant is our go-to Detroit style pizza place. The food and the service are always impeccable, and it keeps us coming back. The pizza is by far the best Detroit style pizza around. There are others, but none of them can compare. The "old style pepperoni" is our topping of choice and for good reason. Make sure you also have room for the crunchy bread. It's a slightly different type of bread, soft and sweet, but oh, so good. The customer service is some of the best in the industry bar none. I may be slightly biased because we go quite a bit, but it's proof that they take the time to relate to their customers. They will make you want to come back. Cloverleaf is a top-notch restaurant, and we will continue to be a patron of this establishment.

I’m all about trying new places, but sometimes you just want a classic. I never like to say I’ve been eating here for decades, but it’s true. We ordered delivery, food was delicious. A couple things weren’t very photogenic. The crunchy bread would be a good example. A pizza dough stretched out & baked with garlic butter, sugar & Parmesan. No matter how you feel about it, it’s a unique way to eat bread. This diabetic approves. I miss coming here to eat & will have to come in for a dine in pizza & salad experience next time. Keep up the good work guys. See ya soon. 🍕 🍻

this is our second time at Cloverleaf and while we had to say it wasn’t as good as our first visit this place is in Detroit institution and iconic in the world of Pizza and definitely worth a visit.

I love the pizza here. My only complaint is they really need to update the inside. It looks worn and dated. I root for this place everytime the who's the best pizza in the area. Part 2. I appreciate you responding tables and chairs for sure but I do understand the cost issue and don't blame you for taking is slow. Might be better to possibly reupholster. Idk lol pizza out weights my opinion of the decor. Keep up the awesome pizza making.

Out the gate, this stop was one of my personal highlights of having D-Style pizza in Detroit. Every single list and reviewer has this spot as a must-stop, so I had to experience it for myself. I REALLY like this pizza, and it really felt like I was eating something special finally while in Detroit. The ambiance of the restaurant and the wait staff adds to the allure and charm of the pizza. Very good service, which is so key for me, and the various classic photos and artifacts on the wall give this spot a unique vibe that gives it that blue-collar appeal. I even had the clam chowder as an appetizer (not pictured), but it's a very wide bowl, so bring your A-game appetite here. The ONLY things that hindered this spot for me giving it 5 stars is that they don't have ginger beer as a beverage option, and the sauce was just a tease. It's like a tablespoon on sauce on top for each slice, so if I return, I would ask for extra-extra sauce on the side. Other than that, I would HIGHLY recommend this spot! They close pretty early compared to other places, so you need to be inside and seated by 7p if your gonna dine in. You don't want them putting up chairs around your feast!

Google
Had a carry out of a pizza and onion rings. Pizza is always delicious! Love the crispy crust on the Detroit style pizza. Never disappoints. First time having onion rings. They were coated with a perfect amount of crispy breadcrumbs.

It's been a while since we've ordered pizza from Cloverleaf. While prices may have increased the quality is still top notch!! Pizza was hot, well cooked, liberally covered with my choice of toppings. Still just how I remember !!

Yelp
8-8-2024 Came after a visit to St. John Ascension Hospital. We were emotionally drained but the pizza and drinks and kind service pepped us up. The deep dish is a true gem. Pepperoni only.

Yelp
I apologize to the chef for my photo in last week's review of his amazing creation BUT... when served, the aromatics seduced my nose instantly AND I SIMPLY COULD NOT STOP myself from compulsively seizing my fork with enthusiasm! Alas, in doing so I recklessly ruined the sublime presentation of this savory dish with my primitive utensil (I am SO ashamed!). This new photo, as awesome as it is, simply can't give justice to what I can only call a remarkable, 5-star presentation of a truly delectable gourmet dish.

Yelp
Jamie was a fun server! Maxe.us laugh several times. Pizza and antipasto salad never disappoint. So good! Marie took this picture and sent us home with cheesecake! Gotta love this neighborhood restaurant that has been here forever!

Yelp
a detroit classic--haven't been here in awhile--old fashion decor which is very cool--we had a sweet bartender named chris--pizza was wonderful--great place to go--lots of parking too....

Yelp
I took my girlfriend there for dinner and a date night a couple weeks ago, and she was absolutely loving the inside of the building and how it was laid out. This is one of my favorite pizza places and it's worth the drive. The service was great as well.

Joseph D.

Yelp
I don't know of a better pizza. service is polite. The food is exceptional, and I will recommend to everyone

Liz G.

Yelp
Our favorite pizza around. Cute restaurant that's been around for years. I love dining in compared to going to one of their carry out spots. The service is good. Their gluten free pizza is some of the best I've eaten. Be sure if they're busy to put your pizza or bread orders in right away especially if you're getting gluten free. They have a nice fireplace and bar area too. We will definitely be back when we want to eat our pizza somewhere other than home.

Marquia P.

Yelp
Visited today! Service was Amazing! We were waited on by Jamie! She gave us great suggestions and told us about the pizza! I was not disappointed! Jamie is a rockstar! Detroit style over Chicago style any day!! Definitely will visit again before our trip is over!

Yelp
I was on a mission to find the best Detroit style pizza while visiting Detroit, MI. Thankfully, one of our colleagues who is a local suggested and treated my friends and me to Cloverleaf Bar and Pizza, it's the originator of Detroit-style pizza since 1946. This establishment was founded by Gus Guerra, who also co-owned "Buddy's", another renowned pizza place. We were fortunate enough to meet Marie, one of the owners, who informed us that they still use the original recipe while Buddy's made some alterations to theirs. Cloverleaf has remained a family-owned business for three generations and is one of the oldest pizzerias in the Detroit area. They brought us a delicious sweet and savory crunchy bread, served hot and topped with parmesan. If you never had Detroit-Style Pizza before it is known for its square or rectangular shape, thick and airy crust, and its unique layering of toppings with cheese at the bottom and sauce on top, Caramelized Cheese Edges, and flavorful crust, that has that nice crunch. We also enjoyed their award-winning meatballs, antipasto salad, and the delicious whipped cheesecake for dessert. We even got a glance at the oven that creates this magic! A big thank you to Marie and her staff for their excellent service, hospitality, and of course, the delicious food. I'll make sure to visit Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant whenever I'm in town. You can find them at 24443 Gratiot Ave, Eastpointe, MI 48021.

Yelp
You do not know how much you miss Real Detroit pizza until you move to Texas. The pizza at this location has not changed one bit. Every time I come back I go to Buddy's, cloverleaf, green lantern , or Louie's. This is the real deal Detroit style pizza. I am in heaven.

Albert T.

Yelp
We went to Cloverleaf on a Sunday right when they opened and were the 2nd party in the restaurant. We ordered pretty quickly and the pizza took a bit over 35 minutes to arrive. Large Old World Pepperoni Pizza - I think the most notable thing about Cloverleaf vs. other Detroit-style places is how garlic forward it is. They seem to add an entire layer of slivered garlic right on top of the crust - delicious. The sauce is slightly sweet and tangy, probably not made in house but is appropriate for the pizza. The pepperoni was as good as advertised. In terms of crust development, one end of the pizza was absolutely perfect with a fantastically crispy caramelized cheese layer and a very nice fried bottom crust. The other side unfortunately was a bit wan, still good but the crispiness was definitely lacking. I wonder if the oven just wasn't evenly heated. Regardless, Cloverleaf certainly has a great Detroit style pizza and I would be happy to go again.

Yelp
Food choices are perfect; variety and quality! Friendly atmosphere and service' Won't "break you bank "!

Yelp
Although from KY, as a salesman in the auto industry, I have been coming to the greater Detroit area and the Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant for their Detroit Style pizza for years. I have been telling everyone who would listen, including my wife, that this is not only the best pizza in Detroit, but also anywhere else in the world. Finally, after celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary at Mackinac Island, and on our return trip home to KY, we were able to stop at the Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant for her to try it fresh out of the oven. She loved it and now understands why I rave about this place and it's awesome delicious pizza with the perfect caramelized cheese and sauce which makes it so goooood! She says the dough is what makes it sooooo good. This is one thing we are happy to agree to disagree on. Win/Win. This place is really special for a number of reasons: 1) Of course the pizza is the number one reason 2) Service is outstanding 3) Don't be surprised if the owners stop by your table and ask if everything is good and chat with you. 4) By yourself or with friends at the bar watching sports or with your family at a table, the atmosphere is great and enjoyable. I assume the other food on the menu is equally as good, but I have only partaken of the suds and gorged on my favorite pizza. You will have to explore the other offerings and give your opinion. Kudos to TEAM Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian L.

Yelp
What a disappointing trip. Sat at the bar and ordered soup, salad, pizza, and eggplant parm. Soup and salad served promptly but the pizza and eggplant were nowhere to be found. Bartenders tried but after about an hour still no food. Finally told the bartenders that we were bailing. They made it right by comping one round and the soup and salad but still.... Could have run due west to Louie's and got a carry out in that time.

Tim A.

Yelp
On a recent night out with a few family members, we stopped here for some pizza was really good and the service was as we hoped it would be. We would really like to have another meal here soon.

Caroline B.

Yelp
My husband and I order take out pizza from this location regularly. The deep dish is the best we have found in the area. The price is right for the amount of food. We always get a large deep dish, and an order of cheese bread. I used to order the anti pasta salad but don't any more because the last two times the salad was very watery, like they forgot to dry the lettuce after washing it. The take pizza is alway good.

Spoce J.

Yelp
A part of me almost wanted to cry because of how great this pizza was. I've had bbq chicken from many other pizza places this makes jets bbq chicken taste like the bottom of my shoe.Dave portnoy would eat this pizza with a smile and a tear rolling down his cheek

Dano R.

Yelp
This is one of the original Detroit deep-dish pizza restaurants that is responsible for what's now know as "Detroit style pizza". You can't go wrong with their antipasto salad and any deep dish pizza you desire. Wash it down with a little Vino and you'll have a classic Italian meal.

Christina B.

Yelp
I hosted a small birthday gathering on Sunday, April 21 (10 adults and 5 children). To cater the event, I placed an order for take-out from Cloverleaf, which included three large pizzas, a tray of antipasto salad and crunchy bread. The quality of the food was top-notch, and we didn't have any leftovers! To top it off, the staff went above and beyond by adding a slice of cheesecake and a heartfelt card wishing me a happy birthday. I was touched by their thoughtfulness and want to give a shoutout to Marie and Debbie for providing exceptional service. It's not often that you come across this level of service in 2024, and it made my day all the more special. Thank you so much for everything!

Stephen H.

Yelp
Best pizza around. Expensive, but filling! Their cheese bread and garlic bread is awesome as well! Others may tell you they have the original version, and they come close, but this is the best!

Gina R.

Yelp
I've gone here for decades. Best pizza in the world. Service is always good. Quality cheese on the pizza is the key and there pizza sauce is delicious. No one does it like cloverleaf!

Alex T.

Yelp
After many, many years of limiting my Detroit style pizza to Buddy's and Shields, I decided I needed to broaden my horizons and try the other classic establishments. The catalyst you ask, a great podcase called CuriosiD that did an episode on the history of Detroit style pizza. Before the podcast, I had not known of the connection between Cloverleaf and Buddy's. The founder of Cloverleaf was the former co-owner of Buddy's and his family was responsible for bringing their Sicilian style pizza to Detroit. Hence, Cloverleaf has ties to the first Detroit style pizzas to ever come out of an oven. I'm not an expert, but it appears the original Cloverleaf building was lost or partially lost in a fire sometime in the 80s I believe. The restaurant was rebuilt. Hence, it doesn't immediately have that historic feel that you might expect, considering how old the establishment is. However, it still has that classic look (and smell) you would expect. And now....for the important stuff: We ordered a large (8-slice) with mushroom and pepperoni (the classic kind that cups when it's baked). The pizza arrived nice and hot, and we dug into our first slices. The crust was a bit crunchier than I'm used so, with a bit more of a charred/burnt taste to it. I'm not sure how I felt about it, but knowing every pizza is different, I didn't want to judge. The further into the pie we got, the better the pizza was. I'm usually a corner slice fan, but the sweet spot in this pizza was the interior slices....shocking, I know. Overall, this was another top notch Detroit style pizza. I don't know if the crust is normally a bit crunchier or if this pizza had a tiny bit too much time in the oven. Nonetheless, we both loved it! Other thoughts: I really liked their bar area with small high top tables. It seemed like a cozy place to meet up with friends for pizza and a beer to catch a game or just to hang out. There are lots of cool news articles on the walls to read about the history of the place.

Kenny K.

Yelp
I like this place but something about it always gives me indigestion that's probably a me problem but I can't really eat here often even though the pizza is so good .

Kelly H.

Yelp
I love the customer service and the food! Best pizza on the far Eastside. I love the Charles Langston pizza!! Yum yum yummmmm

Erica G.

Yelp
I finally ordered from Cloverleaf Restaurant a few weeks ago, and I was not disappointed! After reading an article about the Top 101 Best Places in America, and reading that this location made the list, I knew I had to try! I ordered a Large Square Pizza with Pepperoni and Bacon, and an order of the Cauliflower Bites. The pizza was delicious! I could've done without the bacon, but that was my friends request, and we both agreed we could've just been fine with a regular pepperoni pizza. So that's something that I will keep in mind for the next time. But the cheese and the crust was delicious! The Cauliflower Bites were ok, I wasn't too happy about the breading, but overall it ok. I definitely plan to order pizza again! I was really impressed!

Anthony F.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Lots of seating to ensure safe distancing during dining. Ordered a small pizza. Had perfect amount of crispness to the crust giving you that crunch with each bite. Solid pizza sauce and variety of toppings to customize pizza way you want. Made one with spinach, roasted garlic, feta cheese and sundried tomato.

Denice B.

Yelp
If you have not been to Cloverleaf, stop in and get great food. The pizza is Detroit style. Thick chewy crunchy crust. Delicious flavorful ingredients topped with yummy tomato sauce. Appetizers are also a hit. Coconut shrimp, and K-fries. French fries topped with tasty Parmesan and Garlic topping. Top it off with their wonderful cheesecake. Our server Princess was a great asset to the place. Kind and speedy. Will be back soon!!

Racine S.

Yelp
I splurge and get this pizza once in a while, always good, I have seen a cook, not change their gloves after picking something up off the floor once, but they weren't touching my pizza.

Phil M.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Sunday around 1PM. Antipasto salad was good and quite large. Bread was sweeter than expected but good. We got a large (8 piece) pizza with pepperoni, bacon and onion. A small between the 2 of us would have probably been fine for us. The pizza was good. Crust was awesome, sauce was ok and the toppings were ok. Glad we tried it but not sure we would make the long trip again (45 minute drive). Our waitress was awesome too! Thanks Jen!!!!

Amy B.

Yelp
I don't know if I've heard about Cloverleaf Pizza or not before, but I know I've never eaten here before. Buddy's is my preferred pizzeria, but I do like other places and styles depending on where I am at. There have been a few places along the way that I've tried and gotten burned before thinking the pizza would be good when indeed it was not. So, I was a bit hesitant to come here and try the place out for fear that I would leave with an upset stomach and severe disappointment. I was happily surprised with my experience here, and definitely will be back for sure! The reason I came here is for a few different reasons. first, it was close to my dates house, second, said date said that the pizza was good, so we strolled in here on a Saturday night to dine in for dinner. The place is HUGE with tons of space and tables to sit at for most small or large sized parties. The hostess was sweet as could be, and answered all our questions right off the bat. The place has an old school feel to it, with lots of wood paneling and tables. Date and I reviewed the menu and started off with Mozzarella bites. While they were good, the amount they gave us was small and would probably barely make an infant full, let alone two adults. This is part of the reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Even though it came with marinara and ranch dip, it was a very small portion. While the menu here is fabulous and extensive, we stuck with a pepperoni 8 piece pizza and let me tell you, the pizza here is amazing. Like almost better then Buddy's amazing. I was really super impressed and literally could barely finish my second piece. Date gobbled his up and we both were super full when we were done. We took home leftovers for eating later, and I was so thrilled about the food I can't seem to brag enough even a day and a half later. Also, the service was good but slacked about halfway through. As dinner went on, we saw less and less of our server. It got to the point that we were desperate for our bill and a carryout container and were wondering what happened to her. Eventually we saw here and flagged her down. She did apologize, but it was literally the longest 15 minutes of our lives. It probably was a random thing that happened, but we started to literally fall asleep at the table from all the food we ate. (food coma!) Since it went on for the better half of our meal, I took off a star because it got to be annoying after a while. Overall this place is legit. I think they have other locations and really worth a stop in for some legit pizza. I will be back!

Brian B.

Yelp
Well.....if you have never been you need to! This is definitely the OG Detrout pizza that is 100% worth the visit! Everything that spot on perfect!

Angel B.

Yelp
So I used to be a huge huge fan of Cloverleaf, and I probably ate there at least once a week when they had their Buffet. Even after the Buffay, I would still go there. They have some of the best lasagna I've ever had.. but unfortunately they got rid of menus items that lasagna be in one of them and it's just a pizza and burger place basically now to me so I haven't eaten there in ages not to mention their prices are way up there which I understand everybody's are but getting rid of the food I like it means I don't go there anymore

Danny Y.

Yelp
Friendly service with tons of free parking. Two types of free bread. One is a regular loaf while the other is a sweet yet greasy garlic bread. My favorite item is their ranch. Greek salad could be a bit more dry with more toppings but even the small is a large portion. The cheese pizza was yummy but I wish the dough was a bit crisper even though the cheese and sauce were good. Very fair prices. 3.5 stars rounded down since I wouldn't recommend this spot over some other spots of same pizza style.

Kathy M.

Yelp
Good food and service, nice place. We've had several large gatherings in the back room and it was really nice. We get takeout all the time too. Nice menu and AWESOME pizza.

Dai B.

Yelp
Not even close to what it used to be. It's ran a little messy. Came in and waited while 6 people passed us. Several servers kept harassing us while eating about our baby. We weren't giving responses because we had mouthfuls, kept touching our baby.

Will E.

Yelp
I've only had the pizza and it's OK to me but when I get a certain friend from New Jersey here for a visit this is his first stop before he even gets to my home he said it's the closest tasting thing to a East Coast pizza that he's had outside of the East Coast

Sarah M.

Yelp
Best Detroit style pizza near me. I usually get a carry out and just cheese pizza, never disappoints. I've eaten inside as well, nice to sit at the bar and have a beer and an app.

Melissa D.

Yelp
Best gluten free pizza I've had to date, not to mention the gluten free cheese bread . I may live 3 hours away, but I will be back and take advantage of the 3/4 baked pre-order pizza to keep in my freezer. Thank you for having such amazing gluten free pizza!

Jen K.

Yelp
First time checking out this place. Their fried ravioli is homemade and delicious! We tried both the cheese and meat. I preferred the meat and my girlfriend the cheese. I would get either again. My girlfriend, who ranks Buddy's Pizza as number one in her book, said this place would give Buddy's a run for their money. Probably the biggest compliment she's ever given to another pizza place! Waitress was also amazing. Because it was our first time, she brought us out a sample of their crunchy bread. Overall, 5 out 5. I cannot wait to come back!

Edward A.

Yelp
Best overall Pizza in Macomb County! It's been around forever... for a reason! Hang out, get comfortable and enjoy the jewel!

Nicholas D.

Yelp
Great place to take loved ones for a great meal of sorts. Great value for the money. Original cuisine is a neighborhood favorite. Nice bar to relax and play keno. Friendly staff, cleanliness, and fast service keep me coming back. Pizza is the best.

Sara M.

Yelp
Great place for groups! Had a lovely lunch on Sunday for 20ppl. Service was great, pizza and salad outstanding! Family owned. Highly recommend!

Mariuca R.

Yelp
Visited yesterday with my husband. The wait was a little long, although the waitress warned us of this early on. She said a large wedding party was in the restaurant, and we could see another large group was also present. While waiting I noticed the station we sat near. Waitstaff brought a constant stream of dirty dishes to this station which was right behind our booth. Seeing dirty dishes wasn't pleasant. But noting the staff go directly from handling dirty dishes to picking up clean dishes. Constantly handling both without any handwashing. The proximity of dirty dishes and glasses to clean dishes, napkins and to go boxes didnt seem right. This parade of dirty dishes and waitstaff touching dirty and clean items went on and on and on and finally we got our pizza. We ordered a large Supreme. It wasn't bad. One other thing I noticed was thick fuzzy dust along the chair rails. Right along the wall just inches from our booth and the station. I've included a photo below.

David W.

Yelp
Last of the good sit down pizza places where you can sit and relax with friends while you enjoy a fresh delicious pizza

Mark B.

Yelp
The only thing I've eaten here is the pizza. It's good but I've had better. I am not a sauce on top fan but that's just me. I would eat here again.

Adrienne Y.

Yelp
It was good. The marina sauce that came with the cheesy breadsticks, which were good, was way too sweet. The pizza, I got sausage, pineapple and ham, was good! Bonus: When I heated up my leftovers the next day, the pizza was not dry and was basically as good as the day before. Will try again!

Marne D.

Yelp
Once again delicious pizza, can't say enough about food! Now the "hair" in the ointment is the filthy carpet! please, please management rip out that nasty OLD carpet. The restaurant has got a nostalgia atmosphere, but no one needs nostalgia in the carpet! I hate to carry out, since it just doesn't stay hot enough, it would make for a more pleasant atmosphere if I felt the place (carpet) was changed!

T C.

Yelp
I ordered a carry out from the Original Cloverleaf, Gratiot in Eastpointe. I used the website, from their phone number. I ordered a small antipasto salad and a small supreme pizza. on website it's $7.75 for salad and $9.99 pizza. With tax should have been $18.80 I was charged $23.74. $4.94 difference. Their explanation was their prices went up. I feel it a deceptive practice to post one price and charge another. I used to order and go there a least once a month, even having our dad's memorial there as well as our 60th birthday. They refused to even offer me the price in their website. It was like they didn't care. Sadly, they lost a good customer and by word of mouth, probably more. pizza Was ok, and antipasto salad was sadly lacking meat and cheese. Cloverleaf has gone down hill.
