The 29 Best Restaurants In The Hamptons - New York - The Infatuation

"La Fondita has been a taco counter mainstay for years. In 2019 they added this great sit-down restaurant in the retro metal diner next door. And while La Fondita is still a solid lunch option, Coche has quickly become one of our favorites for a night out in the area. Settle in with something from their extensive tequila list—or zhuzh up a classic margarita with fruit cordials or fresh purees—then order some ceviche. You’ll want the rotisserie chicken or glazed duck to fold into their homemade tortillas, plus some wood-charred sweet potatoes drizzled in chile honey. Coche doesn’t take reservations, so get there early and build in some extra time for a drink at the bar or the fire pits outside." - melissa kravitz hoeffner

Ordered two chicken burrito bowls and one nachos supreme . It was awful, inedible. This is what was left. Do not eat here. Both Moes and chipotle are far better. I'll say again this was terrible.

Google
The ambiance of this restaurant is a step above a diner but don't be fooled as the food is great. It is moderately price Mexican and not your regular taco type join, it is much better than that. We love this place, it is on our rotation as we always try to diner here at least 2 times a month.

Google
Margaritas are delicious. Food and service, not so much. The steak was very tough but the manager told me he sells 50 a night. Good luck!

Google
Such Fun date spot! The food was great! Found this place Today and went on an Adventure.....Such a Gem! So Happy. Great meal! We had 2 specials, an entree, and 2 sides. The special Sea bass ceviche appetizer, the sea bass special, and the Apricot glazed duck with the sweet peas & duck fat potatoes 🤣 Honestly the duck fat potatoes were maybe the only okay thing i could have done without... otherwise everything tasted fredh, healthy, and delicious! Would recommend & would come back! Kate was our server and amazing. The manager & hostess verifed Apollo but FYI they are a No Dogs venue even with outdoor seating. No reservations, walk in. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor. Next door is a separate Take Out venue that was steady busy. Try it at home or try it at restaurant But go try it out!

Google
First off I have NEVER left a bad review ever. I am assuming they have changed ownership since last summer but I am INCREDIBLY disappointed. After waiting next door, supporting their other business at La Fondita for OVER AN HOUR to wait for opening we were told that we could not sit outside for ceviche and cocktails with our dogs while we had done the same thing last year. They had no customers. No one was outside. We offered to get take out, either for the seats outside or at La Fondita and were denied. We were ready to sit for at least two rounds of cocktails and dinner and were denied. We will never be back. Shame on you.

Google
This place is amazing, drinks, food, service. The food that they have is very authentic Mexican not that type of American/Mexican food. Ask for the specials they have. You might think that is expensive but believe me it’s very worth it 100%.

Google
Fantastic food and awesome staff! Kudos to the host Matt and server Luis (and the very pleasant seniorita/seniora.) We were passing by, traveling from NJ, and fell upon this gem. COVID restrictions in place, we felt very safe. A nice birthday serenade and drum roll.... the margaritas were great. Put this place on your list!!

Google
Great cocktails and food. Staff also very friendly!

Yelp
Great food great service the best Margarita! Anejo is or fav. Guac and chips is awesome. Tuna tacos, small but super tasty roast chicken with mole sauce is excellent and our new favorite. The steak fajitas are insane. It's one of our favorite spots around in the Hamptons.

Randi L.

Yelp
Was so disappointed! Always loved this place for years , whenever we are out East we go a few times in the summer. Got there Tuesday night, we were told inside wld be 1 hour outside 30 mins. mind you it was about 90 degrees outside. So we waited and waited, there were numerous tables inside , but since we were 2 , they wouldn't not seat us inside . So still waited outside in the heat , while there were 5 empty tables at 8:40 and restaurant closes at 9 . ‍. So we were seated outside took forever to even get a drink! Service was non existent, was like we weren't even there and no one even cared at all . Was never treated so poorly at an establishment in the Hamptons , dk what happened to this place !

Super B.

Yelp
v popular in season place. cool little place w eat in and side shack for to order and eat at outside tables. super nice staff/host/servers. food. unimpressive and def overpriced (even for hampton/amagansett standards). chopped salad was marginal at best. guac/chips fine. shrimp special. steak dish. nothing great. try it for the vibe maybe. or not.

Yelp
Popped into here to get some Mexican food and it was pretty packed inside. Luckily got a booth right away and it was nice inside. Got served right away with waters and ordered our food. Started with the chips & guac with salsas on the side. We've never had chips served this way and we kinda liked the change. The guac was salty and very good. They give you a bit to eat as well. Salsa were great. The bean salsa was my favorite. Now I did learn that I don't like leeks at all. First time having them and they are tough to eat. Hard to chew and definitely seem like your eating a root. The pork ribs were maybe a little over cooked and needed sauce or something on them. That dish wasn't the best choice. The sweet potatoes were very good. Little charred on the sides and sweet drizzle on top. Not our cup of tea for sure. But still good maybe with different choices

Yelp
An absolute amazing meal!!! Every single dish was superbly prepared in taste and presentation!!! Fav was tuna tacos, guacamole & chips, pig skin and duck!!!

Yelp
The food was quite delicious. We definitely appreciated that this was one of the only spots open during the off period. I had been here a few years ago when it was being renovated to this restaurant. I had almost used it as a film location, but decided for something closer to oakdale. The staff was so friendly here.

Yelp
First time visiting , all started out ok it was semi busy for a Friday night- our dinner took over an hour to come out and we shared 1 entree and two sides. That wasn't our issue. There were two tables that came after us and were served their dinner before us. Our server didn't acknowledge the lateness or mess up which If he did we respect a mistake , instead we were met with " what do you want me to do about it ?" The food was ok , nothing to carry such an air of arrogance. He didn't offer anything off for the mishap , or any token of apology. Goodbye Coche.

Yelp
Food is mediocre and over priced. Portions are small. The kicker for me was how rude they were when I used the bathroom while getting dinner another time at their restaurant next store (which doesn't have a bathroom). Way to treat your customers.. I explained that my hands had dirt on them and there was no where else to wash my hands and was told "not my problem." The restaurant was empty.

Yelp
Very impressive. Terrific service and menu was very varied, fresh and delicious. Mezcal options were broad. I like this place, indoors or outdoors. Bringing my whole family this week. Yum

Yelp
Dined on a Wed. Arrived a little before 6 and there was no one else indoors. After about 15 minutes the place was packed! Had a watermelon margarita. I don't recommend getting a salted rim; it took away from the flavor of the drink. A sugar/sweet rim would probably be better. Mom has the flamingo and loved it. We started with the queso. My parents loved it the most and they never indulge in starters. It's not your typical bowl of melted cheese. For dinner mom and I split the whole roasted chicken and it was twice as much food as we needed. It was nicely cooked, very moist, and just as good the next day!

Yelp
My friend and I popped in for a nice meal and she is allergic to nuts. There were many menu items that had a nut next to them as an allergy but we made very sure to order something that did not have the nut logo on it. She had one bite of our meal and knew immediately there were nuts in it-- she became very very ill and was ill the rest of the night. We asked our servers if there were nuts in the dish we had and they first blamed us for not alerting them of the allergy (we were following the symbols on the menu) and then he went on to REASSURE that there were no nuts in the dish we ordered. There were definitely nuts in it. There was no apology-- only blame to us. Very frustrating experience. The food was great (we had other items as well) but if you have an allergy of ANY kind, BEWARE. I don't normally write anything but glowing reviews, but I felt as thought it was my duty to share this with the public.

R S.

Yelp
Coche Comedor apparently chose to be closed on Sunday, February 11th, but didn't bother to let the public know. I called the number and heard the outgoing message on Sunday afternoon, saying that they were open for dinner beginning at 5. Even on Yelp, it says they are open on Sundays. To all those who showed up for dinner only to find the restaurant dark, I'm sorry for the inconvenience and lack of consideration of management.

Yelp
This was really enjoyable. We got the shrimp tacos, octopus tacos, chips and guac, and the rib carnitas with an extra order of tortillas. The tortillas were probably the biggest surprise, as they were really great -- far better than I expected to get at a restaurant in the Hamptons, to be honest. Both sets of tacos were really good (especially the octopus), and we enjoyed the guac as well. I'd probably get something else instead of the rib carnitas next time.

Warren R.

Yelp
Great service but bland, mediocre entrees. Seasonings were so light, spice was lacking, and condiments and sauces notably absent on the table making it impossible to add heat or additional flavor. The chips were okay and bland, the guacamole bland, the salsas and dips ordered served in tiny metal bowls were peculiar, The ribs were undercooked and stringy. The steak was cooked properly but tasted of fennel that I don't care for. Did not order the chicken but others liked it. However, there is not a single entree item that I would ever go back for or specifically recommend as good Mexican food. And without hot sauce or salt or pepper on the table the chances of improving the dish to taste is impossible. The ribs need 1-2 hrs wrapped in foil at 250 before finishing and serving to get them more tender and flavorful.

Yelp
Overall I had a positive experience at Coche Comedor, once we were seated. We arrived around 7 PM on Wednesday and we were told that it would be a 20 minute wait. While I realize the restaurant cannot predict how long each party will stay, our wait was closer to 40 minutes. I guess that's better than waiting two hours. However, had we known it was going to be that long, we would've ordered some snacks/appetizers at the bar along with our drinks. So, it would have been nice if the hostess had been able to give us a little more realistic time expectation. Once we were seated, we ordered some chips and salsa and chips and guacamole right away. They came out fairly quickly and were quite yummy. We ordered the Fundito to share, which was also very tasty. I personally did not like the corn nuts in the Fundito but I'm sure others might like it. I ordered the duck entree, which was divine. It was marinated with tamarind and was so tasty. I'm so glad I got the duck. My friend got the pork, which was also outstanding. Perfectly seasoned and moist. My other friend ordered the vegetable entree, which she ordered with the sauce on the side. Unfortunately, her dish did not come out with everyone else's entrées. And, the sauce was not on the side. Rather than sending it back, my friend didn't say anything. However I did mention it to our waiter and he simply apologized. It came out 15 minutes after our entrées, and it wasn't the way she had ordered it. And, they never brought her Diet Coke. So, I don't know what happened but it seemed my friend's order was doomed. It would have been nice if our waiter had offered to take it off the tab or at least provide a gift card or something to come back. Considering how much money we spent on all the drinks, four entrées, a few appetizers, etc., The gesture would have been appreciated. Instead he said, oh the kitchen got backed up and we'll wrap the veggies for you. Not exactly a world class experience. I will still give Coche four stars because the food was excellent. And maybe because it's so new, they are working out the kinks. There seemed to be a gentleman at the front of the house, overseeing things but he did not come by and ask how we were faring. So, not a perfect experience but still overall, a good food experience.

Yelp
Love the half duck and 1/2 chicken and the duck fried rice and plantains great service and drinks are done right

Cathia M.

Yelp
Called in trying to order two small appetizers for takeout (on a Wednesday night) and they put me on hold for over 10 minutes. I hungup and called back, and they answered immediately and took my order as they had forgotten I was on hold in the first place. Paid $25 for a side of rice and the queso fondido. Rice was fine, but the fondido was not cooked (quite literally still frozen) and had cooking instructions for me at home. The fondido was $18, and I was not informed that it was uncooked over the phone or in person. I don't get food as takeaway if I want to take the time to cook and heat it up myself. I picked this up for myself during my dinner break at work, lucky my workplace has an oven and utensils because both were necessary in order to eat the food served here! Never even asked if I needed utensils or napkins, I just didn't receive any. When I arrived I stood in a half empty restaurant, with multiple employees walking past me (not saying a word) and continued standing there for about 5-10 minutes. Not the type of service I expected for this price range, or such a calm weeknight!

Peter L.

Yelp
This place is fun. The food is imaginative and very good. The tres Leche is murder. The cocktails are fun too. The ranch water was perfect for me!

Yelp
Love this place. Always consistent. My go to spot. Had my birthday party there. Staff is amazing.

T C.

Yelp
Got the NY strip for dinner which was excellent, however the main purpose of my review is to sing the praises of the Coconut Tres Leches. This was the best dessert I have ever had in my life. It was so good that even though I was beyond full, I ordered another one, unbuttoned my pants and finished another one. The frozen margaritas are wonderful. Many flavors to choose from, I went with the sour cherry.

Yelp
Not sure why this place does not have perfect reviews. Came here post t-storms in Montauk and was seated by Matt the ownre/host within 20 minutes. The food was all excellent - loved the el pastor fish thing and the TRES LECHES CAKE WAS AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. the quac was super over priced (15 dollars for guac) but that is the #HAMPTONS for you. Super cute vibes and excellent service from all the staff. We loved our meal and the vibe of the place is a very cozy at home feel. in good weather you can post up in the back too on the picnic tables. will be back for the dessert. thanks, Matt! Tamara

Debbie J.

Yelp
I simply don't know what the hype is about. Mediocre food with lacking service. Waited a long time (as they don't take reservations) for a table and then we were stuck in the back with no way to attract the waitstaff. Exceedingly overpriced with very small portions. And the duck came with a $38 price tag and not so much as a sprig of broccoli to decorate the plate.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Great Mexican food on the slightly upscale side. We had chips & guac, flounder, chicken adobo with mole negro, the fried rice, a margarita-like cocktail with mezcal, and tres leches cake. Each was great! I would have never thought to order fried rice at a Mexican restaurant, but the server recommended it, and it was a perfect complement to the chicken. Only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that I inevitably compare every chicken mole to Casa Enrique in Long Island City, and nothing is ever quite as exceptional. But on the whole, this is a great spot. I definitely recommend.
google avatar

Dana M.

Yelp
The bald manager was so rude and unfriendly.. Clearly only prioritized others he was friends with. However, everyone other than him was lovely-- had excellent bartenders, waiters and cooks. Highly recommend new management tho
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Disappointing, and expensive for the little we got. Last night was a beautiful June evening, and this restaurant was my guest's choice. The guacamole was gooey, as if it were put through a food processor, very blah. Extremely salty (but crispy) house--made taco chips were good. My guest's salad was disappointing: a few shredded vegetables, with a scattering of cheese, for $16?? I got the rice with seafood, which was a grease extravaganza. The sauce tasted only of chilis, which overwhelmed the seafood. I only ate about a quarter, and took the rest home, mostly to save face. It went doublewrapped into the trash, due to the grease. I don't recommend unless you like greasy options: personally, I prefer onion rings for that.

Yelp
Found! Coche Comedor is brought to you by the folks at Nick & Tonis. It is next door to fast casual La Fondita, great spot! It is housed in an old railcar diner, hence the name Coche which means Car in Spanish and Comedor which means dining room, also in Spanish. The other reason it is named car is because there are a ton of cars in the parking lot...it is always packed! The food is very good including large format chips & guacamole, grilled vegetables, and even Chicken Adobo. For more great reviews visit TheLoupe!

Clare L.

Yelp
Definitely do not recommend. After my friend got an allergic reaction, management gave us a check fully comped. Which we thought was respectful to the customer as there is no indication of nuts on the menu whatsoever. Management proceeded to come back with a check for $280, saying they messed up and just comped our appetizers. The waiter then came up to us blaming us for not immediately saying we had an allergy. He proceeded to refuse our tip saying "the amount wasn't worth it to him" and that next time it was our responsibility to say something. I'm someone who works in the restaurant business and am absolutely appalled by how this restaurant reacted.
google avatar

Bambi l.

Yelp
Great staff. Nice presentation. Food is pretty. Loaded with salt. Deafeningly loud. Stay away if you have tinnitus or high blood pressure.
google avatar

Apple F.

Yelp
I love the food especially the coconut tres leches. Service was great until one of the server brought our dessert out and he wasn't wearing mask. My friend and I felt so uncomfortable. I thought employers are suppose to require their employees to wear a mask. Please enforce this rule.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Ate at Coche' 6/14. Though very busy, (it was Friday night in the Hamptons) the whole staff and in particular our waiter Arturo were gracious, funny, entertaining, attentive, knowledgeable and very helpful with making choices on a great menu. We had the chicken, the Barbacoa, the octopus, the seafood cocktail (like a red ceviche') the cod pastor and shared the tres'leches. All were delicious. Can't wait to go back!

Vanessa R.

Yelp
The food was amazing but the service was awful. The staff in the front made us feel unwelcome and there is no restroom for guests for lunch. I had to drive out to a gas station then come back. I gave it a 3 because the food was excellent

Consumer N.

Yelp
The food mediocre at best. No taste at all. Food came out cold. Service awful ... service with no smiles. If you want Mexican food DONT go here. There are far better places in the Hamptons to get great Mexican food. I won't be going back.
google avatar

Gabrielle N.

Yelp
This place is a true gem. Great service, friendly staff, and wonderful atmosphere. Love the decorations here. Food is absolutely incredible-- we loved the duck fried rice! To die for. Brunch is great here as well as dinner (we had to come back!)
google avatar

Cecilia F.

Yelp
Recently opened, this place is already a smash hit so if you go in high season, expect a wait. They are doing their best, and it is well-run with good staff and very high quality food that is a cut above the usual fare at Mexican restaurants. It is lively, noisy, and colorful. Good fun with just the right vibe for an upscale Hamptons casual night out.
google avatar

Otavio C.

Yelp
Had such a good experience there. They do not take reservations but I came in and they quickly seated me. Super friendly host and waiters. Great cocktails, I had the This Negroni is On Fire and tried the Paloma, both great! The food was also delicious, I highly recommend the Lamb Birria -- it was falling off the bone it was so soft. The caldo was also delicious! Would highly recommend this place.

Sara A.

Yelp
Great Dinner last night. Coche is clean and Covid compliant. Dishes are inventive and tasty, loved the Tuna Tacos! Really nice, the server suggested adding an extra taco to the standard order of three tacos, this way we each got to enjoy one. Smart! Fluke Pastor came with a hidden slice of pineapple, delicious. Great Vegetarian options as well!
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Our meal wasn't very flavorful-little spice for Mexican. The duck stir-fry would be the recommended dish if any recommendations were wanted. Our server highly suggested the dish. The dining room service was horrible, our food arrived before the drinks we ordered before the food. The bar is fun and lively. I'd go again for drinks but skip the food.
google avatar

Taneen J.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food -- likely the best I've had in NY. Highly recommend. Good place to watch the game also.

Paul N.

Yelp
We were told 30 minutes for a party of 10. 2 hours later when we were not seated, after ordering hundreds of dollars in drinks to hover around a bar area table, we were told to leave to make room for a party of two ready to eat. That said, once we sat down and had our meal (some Fundido, Carnitas, and Barbacoa), the food was incredible. We left very happy.

Scott O.

Yelp
The food at Coche Comedor is absolutely delicious!! It is my favorite restaurant in the Hamptons. I love the decor as well. Beautiful tables painted by local artists. Don't miss this place!
google avatar

Rich M.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it was outstanding. We got there shortly after 7pm and they were able to seat us right away. The place was pretty packed so I'm glad we didn't come earlier. We both had margaritas which were awesome - clearly made with fresh lime juice and no skimping in the tequila. For our meal we shared the half chicken with mole negro and the pork dish. Everything was perfectly cooked and flavorful with just the right amount of "kick." Friends who were leaving shortly after we arrived recommended some desserts but we were too full from our delicious dinner to have dessert. We will definitely come back.
google avatar

Ashatan B.

Yelp
Honestly some of the best food in the Hamptons. Every dish is perfect, the sauces are amazing. The ceviche out of this world. We loved the 2 fish main dishes. Had the tres leches cake which was also incredible. Highly recommend this place for really really good and unique food and drinks.
google avatar

Helen G.

Yelp
So good. Been twice already. Highly recommend the crispy tuna tacos, duck fried rice, skirt steak, and horchata ice cream. Yum!

Blair B.

Yelp
The food and drinks were fine, nothing impressive but certainly not bad. However, the service was incredibly slow and rude. The manager was sassy from the moment we walked in, making us feel unwelcome. We should have left then and saved our money and time.
google avatar

Jerome R.

Yelp
Had an incredible time with my friends drinking at the bar. William was great and helped us out with everything we needed! Definitely going to come back.

Bernarda F.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I dont know why this place has 4 stars... its horrible. It is a nice restaurant but the food sucks and it is not Mexican at all. It is WAY overpriced for what they give you. Also do not pay $16 for the "chicharrones" they are literally half a bag of $1 store bought pork rinds.

Meg H.

Yelp
Perfect dinner... break your own tortilla chips served with three different salsas, mini crispy tuna tacos and platter of whole chicken adobo served with hand pressed tortillas and mole were unforgettable! An expert bartender who knows what he's doing with crafted margaritas and prickly pear limeade. Host and staff were incredibly warm and accommodating throughout our special meal. Can't wait to try brunch here!

Paula W.

Yelp
Service: Great (Thanks Josh!) and all the others. Cocktails: Inventive and worthy Food: Such a fantastic addition to the area! Duck fried rice--DANG! Everything: Bam! Order more than you think you want to eat--apps are small, but can't deny this culinary experience. Atmosphere: Beautiful renovation without forsaking the Honest Diner charm. The floors are spectacular (especially in the bathrooms), and the lighting fixtures are lovely. Tip: Avoid the crowds. Go for an early dinner at 5:30 on a weekday. Dr. Shee & Me highly recommend this joint.

Yelp
One of THE BEST RESTAURANTS on Long Island's East End! (Leave it to Mark Smith, he does it EVERY TIME! His locations, his venues & his Staff - SUPERB!) Susan Holmes, Mtk, EH, Wading River
