Where to Find Portland's Most Delicious Doughnuts

"This Portland-based doughnut chain uses a family recipe for its dough, which gives its raised rings a nice springiness to pair with the shop’s house-roasted coffee. Coco’s assortment of mochi doughnuts, with rotating flavors like Oreo and matcha, serve as a nice juxtaposition to any of the heartier, chocolate-coated variations." - Rebecca Roland, Nick Townsend, Eater Staff

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent order of 2 dozen donuts for a co-worker's birthday. According to the ordering process, I believed I was upgrading my order for an additional three dollars per dozen to include half of them as deluxe. However, upon delivery, I only received one dozen donuts. Despite my receipt clearly stating two dozen donuts, I was charged $34.00 (excluding tip) for what seemed like an exorbitant amount for one dozen donuts that were not deluxe in any way. Feeling confused and stressed, I called to inquire about the discrepancy, only to be met with indignation and zero customer service. The representative insisted that I received what I ordered. If indeed this is accurate, then the website's information is misleading. This oversight not only left me short of treats for everyone at work, but it also ruined the surprise for the birthday celebration, as there was no time left to order more.

Google
Good place to get some fresh tasty donuts. We were surprised that they still had a good selection left in the afternoon. The employee working there was nice and patient while we figured out what we wanted. I enjoyed their ube mochi donut. It's a must try.

I was finally able to try Coco Donuts and I was not disappointed! I loved all the plants and ambiance of this little shop. The prices are affordable and the donut selection was on point. I loved the twisty glazed donut the best. The lady that assisted me had amazing customer service and created a great experience. I will definitely be back!

Google
Mmmm.......I can't say enough good things about coco... probably because my mouth is still full of donut. It's SOOOO out of this world. Soft perfect poofy fluffs of dough topped with the most perfect toppings of cinnamon sugar, maple, lavender or whatever your little heart desires ❤️. One delectable bite and you'll understand. Oh ....and the unexpected part? The coffee! I don't really understand it but out of all the coffee shops we have, for some reason it's my go to. Love it. My only question is, why are you still reading and not eating?

Google
Really wanted to try the lavender raised but they were out. The mango raised was great. The plain buttermilk was crispy in the outside and fluffy in the inside. There were many flavors of the mochi donuts. It’s awesome that I can get both classic and mochi donuts in the same box. Nothing special about the drip coffee. Not burnt but normal donut shop coffee. Cute donut box with little touches.

Google
Clean bathroom. Very cute and spacious. Unfortunately the line was so long that we decided to leave because there are too many donut shops in the area. There was only 1 person working and the customers were ordering coffee drinks and donuts, and with only 1 person working, it didn't seem worth the wait. The donuts didn't look unique like some other area donuts.

Google
I came here early on a Sunday morning for coffee and donuts. The service was prompt and friendly. The coffee was also delicious.

Google
Yummy donuts. I got a sweet cream huckleberry coffee. Yummers.

Yelp
Solid classic donuts. We tried Coco Donuts via "Too Good to Go" and it was a great value. I can't recall the exact amount, but I know it was more than a dozen for only $8! I brought them to a family gathering and every was impressed. I look forward to returning the next time we're in town.

Yelp
No frills cutesy donut shop serving various flavored donuts and single origin coffee. Stopped here while in the area to grab a sweet and a drip-was not disappointed. The staff was welcoming and kind, the kind that you could sit and chat with. I had a glazed cake donut and dark single origin drip. Hit the spot.

Yelp
Coocoo for Coco! Fresh batch every morning. Favorite is the Maple Buttermilk. Mochi when you got the munchies, though it is hard to distinguish between their flavors. Nevertheless nice soft chew. Often sold out, so come early. Never caught her name, but there is a nice employee who is always cheerful everytime we visit. Do-nut want to jinx it by asking for it. Bright personality that is perfect in the mornings! Single storefront parking for a quick pickup always makes it too easy to stop by.

Yelp
I didn't realize there was a Coco Donuts in this area. I've heard of their Mochi donuts they serve and usually sell out early in the morning. I was able to try a few of them, a lavender Mochi donut, cinnamon ube Mochi donut and a glazed ube Mochi donut. The lavender one had a traditional base, with good lavender flavor. For the ube ones, I was surprised to see that the dough itself was purple. The Mochi donut wasn't too sweet. I really loved the chewiness of the donuts, had a nice texture. Definitely will come back here again for these Mochi donuts

Valeria R.

Yelp
Best donuts I have personally tried! In not a big donut fan personally because I find that they're either too hard or oily but these donuts are none of that. Instead these are squishy and they had goods flavors. They offered a good and friendly environment.

Yelp
Really cute interior. Family friendly (diaper changing table inside all gender bathroom). Cute packaging for the doughnuts too. Great fast service from a friendly cashier.

Yelp
We came near the end of the day try their donuts and thought it was decent. The pricing is very reasonable and the donuts are standard. We got 2 mochi donut - the texture is good but the flavor isn't as pronounced. 3 cake donuts: they were ok, not super crunchy but not soft. A few donut holes: standard., Not heavy but not super light/airy. Overall, a good donut place but nothing spectacular

Yelp
Delicious donuts. Pretty ambiance. Open space, nice service. Would recommend for sure.

Yelp
I enjoy trying uniquly flavored items so I felt compelled to try the lavender raised donut. It tasted very much like a donut. Good texture on both the icing/glaze and on the donut itself, however, the lavender flavor (if it was there) was covered by the flavor of the oil it was fried in. Everyone who came in and out looked happy with their choices and seemed to be repeat customers. The employees are super friendly and provide great service.

Yelp
Cool creations, they were a hit at a work party! The machi donuts are gluten friendly, but not gluten free FYI

Yelp
Came first thing in the morning so everything was just pulled out and ready to be eaten! Very clean place with a semi limited list of items to pick from. Very friendly staff who were able to assist. - Lavender Donut - was actually surprised in how good this was. No overtly strong flavors but just the right amount and was not super sweet - Lavender Latte - PASS pricey for what it is and the flavor was way too strong - Chocolate donut - tasted like a normal chocolate donut

Yelp
Service has been consistently great. Cheerful, efficient, and quick. Lovely people have been working here when I've gone it. I just don't get excited about their donuts. I've had almost all their flavors, all ways (mochi, cake, & raised). The cake and the raised ones can be a little dry. The caky ones a little too airy. The filled ones need more filling. The "flavors" on all them (except matcha mochi) are faint and/or uninteresting (do depth of flavor). They aren't bad just, not great - the mochi ones are different than "average" donuts, so maybe that is a reason to come - something "different." And the "experience" of going to the shops is not particularly unique - it is clean, polished, and chain-like. On the positive side, there are no lines of tourists or hung over locals or surly counter help (though honestly, sometimes the later two things can contribute to the experience.)

Yelp
I'll be real. Mochi donuts look frickin' delicious ... like shirtless Ryan Gosling's abs. I can't even concentrate on this review thinking about them. Seriously, like gahdahm ... beautiful ... flawless ... sculpted snacks of art. Coco Donuts has mochi donuts. I tried 3 flavors (Sugar, Matcha, and Oreo) of the chewy circles of 8 mochi (rice flour) dough balls connected into a gooey & sticky bracelet covered in a light frosting or sugar. They were dreamy. Nothing looks as good as Ryan Gosling ... except mochi donuts. Mochi donuts look like The Gos go F himself. Coco's raised doughnuts weren't nearly as charming or magical. They were ok ... and "ok" is ok. My camera and I wish I had just gotten a full 6-pack of mochi donuts instead of "trying" a couple classics. I'll be back Coco Donuts! I ain't saying no to anything this gorgeous. Mochi donuts are like hot chicks on Instagram ... as long as they look good, who cares ... I'm a fan.

Yelp
Coco is just really basic donuts. They have a nice light/airness to them. Lavender didn't taste like lavender though and the black sesame mochi donut was just okay. My partner likes the mochi one because she prefers the chewier ones (she said this one was similar to dochi, her favorite donut spot). We also got a lavender latte and chai latte (lavender was fine, really light lavender taste and not sweet which was good. Partner didn't like the chai and tossed it). Overall, it was fine..not sure I'd come back.

Yelp
Fresh, fluffy, and without the pretentiousness or gimmicks of certain starry or spooky spots in Portland (if you know, then you know), Coco Donuts is several steps above your average donut but falls short of being essential or exemplary. The beauty of biting into a Coco Donut is what you DON'T notice: there's no fried flavor, there's little resistance biting into their raised donuts. Obviously, these donuts are FRESH. The dough tastes like it was prepared today and fried recently. Even the color of each donut - a light golden brown - reveals that it hasn't had time to sit around and accumulate a lot of old, oily color. I didn't know it was possible to eat a donut and not feel gross, but Coco Donuts are actually refreshing! The flavors, however, need some work. The "Lavender", the only unique option in the box I got, was not potent enough. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was just purple colored sugar frosting. The "Apple Fritter" might have been just a fritter, since I didn't find any chunks of apple in mine at all. A very beautifully designed fritter though, a criss crossed ball that looked like it was woven. The WINNERS, I'd say, are the "cinnamon roll" and the "glazed twist". Where Coco Donuts shines is being the most basic so that maximum attention is drawn to their fresh dough and frying techniques.

Yelp
4 stars for their normal donuts 3 for their mochi donuts We walked in to get a donut each, and we walked out splitting a dozen... because they have a great deal towards the end of the day where it's a deluxe dozen for $10 (usually the deluxe is $28 I believe). So, they had a limited variety but still plenty of donuts and they maybe weren't the freshest, but presumably they had been made that day still. The normal donuts: pretty tasty. The buttermilk was good. Nice fluffy raised donuts, though the lavender glaze didn't taste like much. The mochi donuts: texturally great, flavor-wise lacking. All of the glazes just tasted sweet and vaguely fruity, could not taste the strawberry or blueberry. The crunch was good though, added an extra dimension. I would give the mochi donuts a try if you've never had them and I'd come back for the buttermilk's since they're reasonably priced, escpecially at the end of the day!

Yelp
I like the donuts, the maple bar is delicious and their signature lavender glazed and the apple fritter is bomb.. but man... I don't know what's going on with the staff here, they're just so unfriendly. They used to be friendly; they were super nice, but on a recent visit the two people behind the counter were exceptionally rude and made me feel like I was bothering them by making them put a single donut into a paper bag. Gee whiz guys, you literally put baked treats in a bag with tongs and make an odd coffee here and there, why so rude?

Yelp
After lunch, we were ready for our next snack; donuts and more coffee at Coco Donuts. They have a couple locations throughout the city. We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 1:30pm) and lucked out. They had an end of the day donut deal! $4.00 US for half a dozen or $8.00 US for a dozen. They also have 50% off drinks on Monday and Tuesday. Service was sweet, friendly and genuine. A big shout out to Genevieve who saved B's mitts (she forgot them) and gave us three complimentary donuts when we came back for them. Three cases of donuts on display; premium, filled, buttermilk, old fashion, raised bar, twist, cake toppings and raised toppings. They also have their own coffee beans for sale ($14.00 US to $15.00 US). - End of day donuts ($4.00 US for 6) - we ended up going with apple fritter, buttermilk glazed, chocolate coconut cake donut, lavender glaze, raspberry filled jelly and crumb raised. My favourite was the raspberry; the jam filling was excellent and tasty. Crumb raised had the lightest and fluffiest texture. B really enjoyed the buttermilk glazed. Apple fritter was standard. Lavender glaze was a touch subtle and floral. Chocolate coconut cake was, of course, the densest that we tried. - Drip ($3.00 US for 16 oz) - J found it strong and flavour was too sweet for his liking. - Lavender latte ($4.75 US for 12oz) - subtle in lavender but it was good and coffee notes came through. Quality, fresh donuts and an unreal, steal of a deal for their end of day donuts!

Yelp
Stopped by Coco Donuts a few weeks ago to try some of their yummy mochi donuts and coffee! I love the cute space they have and they're right off of Williams St. in North Portland. The red velvet mochi donut I had was sweet and chewy, and I've been using their Coco Blend coffee everyday to start off my mornings right! It's a medium roast blend that pairs well with chocolate, so I love making mochas at home. Definitely stop by if you're in the area to pick up some breakfast or a quick snack!

Yelp
Happened to pass by with a friend and upon walk-in, the cashier surprised us with a deal of getting a dozen deluxe donuts for $10, which is an awesome steal! I've always seen pictures of their scrumptious donuts on instagram and have been eyeing to try. Of my 6, I was able to try the mochi blueberry crumb, mochi sugar, mochi chocolate, mochi strawberry, a lavender raised, and a signature coco donut. Everything was absolutely delicious. Of the regular donuts, the dough was soft and airy. They also don't overdo it on the layered icing, which is great as I prefer my desserts to not be too sweet. The mochi donuts were great. They all had a soft, chewy texture that left you wanting more. All the select flavors were quite faint, so pretty much tasted the same, but delicious nonetheless. Staff was patient, personable, and friendly. Excited to have stumbled upon Coco. Excited to come back for more unique flavors. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Beautiful and clean space to enjoy their crafted lattes and delicious donuts! I enjoy Coco since their donuts lean on the cakier side of the scale for their buttermilk, etc which I'm a huge fan of, but they also have a great assortment of flavors you won't usually find at other donut shops such as the lavender, crumb, signature coco, and vanilla cake with nuts. I've had all these flavors and they do not disappoint! To pair with your donut grab one of their creative lattes. I ended up trying the lavender latte which is one of their best sellers and it was a unique taste. Not something I would usually get but definitely worth trying. I was torn between this and the salted caramel latte so I will be sure to try that during my next visit. Staff here is friendly as well so be sure to stop by and support them!

Yelp
Came in for a visit to grab donuts and coffee on Friday after Thanksgiving. My sister was in town visiting and loves donuts, so she was pretty stoked to try a new place! Everyone was so nice and helpful. Coffee was absolutely delicious and the donuts were amazing. I'm pretty basic when it comes to donuts so the maple bar was my favorite. We got a dozen and tried a bunch though. I also loved the cinnamon bun!
google avatar

Courtney Y.

Yelp
Got a chai and the black sesame mochi donut. I didn't realize most places use the Oregon Chai for their chai tea until I learned that from a different cafe (who said most places here use it). It was reallllly sweet when i was looking for just chai. I took one sip and I threw it away. The black sesame mochi donut was pretty good, the texture was just right but the frosting was on the sweeter/creamy side. I like black sesame a lot so maybe it's just preference. I love mochi donuts though and was happy about the texture - some places go with light and fluffy which i don't like, i want the chew of the mochi. Wouldn't go out of my way to come but would get a mochi donut if it was convenient!

Yelp
I am disappointed with my first time experience. I've seen a lot of hype through IG about their Mochi donuts. Since we're on COVID-19 "stay home" orders, I contacted their shop (Williams location) about their Mochi donuts (since this is not mentioned anywhere on their website, neither is it an item on their menu). The team member suggested I pre-order the day before and pick up the following day since they often sell out quick. I ordered 6 Mochi donuts (yesterday) for pick up. I arrived today and there seemed to be a lot of confusion. The team member someone different from who I was on the phone with yesterday) was not able to find my order. I showed my receipt to verify that this was the correct Coco Donuts location & that they were paid for. I guess my order was never in their system so nobody prepared my Mochi donuts to pick up. This was definitely frustrating since I paid for the donuts over the phone yesterday when the team member asked for my car number. The team member tried to compromise with me by offering 2 of the donuts available out of my 6 that were ordered. In addition, I was offered to substitute the remaining 4 donuts I ordered with another flavor. I declined and asked for a refund. They were super friendly about it and I could tell that it was an honest mistake. I was offered 50% off my next Mochi donut order. I will consider going back once my feelings aren't hurt lol

Yelp
Love the mocha donuts here! Staff is always nice and friendly, Really love the clean place they have here! Can't wait to try them all!
google avatar

Yelp
A nice doughtnut spot in a nice neighbourhood. The doughnuts weren't anything impressive, were they made at Safeway? Staff could have been a bit friendlier as well. There are better spots in PDX to satisfy your sweet tooth...

Yelp
MOCHI DONUTS FOR LIFE!!! I've tried mochi donuts in California and from the other pop up offerings in Portland and Coco's is by far the best one! They have the best flavors and the texture is on point and it's super easy to secure a box before you even arrive. I just call the location before I head over and ask if they have any left and if so, what flavors. Then I reserve about a half dozen of all mochi donuts and they put it aside for me and I can come by anytime before they close to pick them up! Of course, it's best to call ASAP since they do tend to run out fairly quickly after opening. My favorite flavors are the blueberry crumb, matcha, and black sesame. Dying to try their pandan and ube flavors as well which are only available on the weekends I believe. Staff is great, street parking is plentiful and you're in and out with donuts in hand in a matter of seconds :) Be careful, it's very hard not to eat them all at once!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Tried their mochi donuts - mango, oreo, matcha, and chocolate banana flavored, all $2.50/each. While I didn't inquire about the other donuts, it looked like they only had a few mochi donuts and were sold out of the other kind by noon on a Saturday. While the mochi donuts weren't bad, I had a hard time reconciling the flavor with the donut, and thought the individual flavors could have shone through more.
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
Bright and spacious. Great to chat or sit to read or write. Staff is friendly. Donuts are delicious! So many kinds. $2 special for donut and coffee after 2pm daily. What a deal! Craving extreme sweet? Get Bavarian cream. Craving not so sweet? Get a cake donut with no icing. - 1 star for not having vegan donut options

Lola G.

Yelp
Drove to coco donuts on 10/22 only to find the shop closed. Hours of operation need to be updated on yelp. Disappointing.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
They have literally the best mochi donuts in Portland! If any of you guys have ever been to Mister Donut in Japan, these donuts are the closest to their pon de rings. I love their range of flavors, but black sesame has to be the best. They are perfectly chewy and don't dry out as I have experienced with some other donuts. Tip though: these sell out pretty fast, so I would give them a call early in the morning for an easy, contactless pickup without having to worry about missing your mochi donut fix!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Always a good Donut!! More traditional than Voodoo or Blue Star, but just as good- or better! Their Jelly filled and old fashion are my favorite, but the Lavender is a close second. Service is always with a smile, no attitude and price is RIGHT. $1-2 per donut, not $4-5!!!
google avatar

Rumit P.

Yelp
There was a very short wait; the donuts on display were neatly presented and pleasing to the eye. It also smelled great inside the shop, which enhanced my zeal for donut consumption. I ordered the coconut glazed donut, which tasted delicious, was not too sweet, and had the right amount of shredded coconut flakes on top. The donut base itself was fresh (likely baked just a little while ago), soft (but not so soft it crumbled in my hands), and a decent size (a smidgen tinier than a Dunkin' or Krispy Kreme) for the price ($1.10). There are some indoor chairs for dining in (no outdoor seating, unfortunately), and a condiment station. Payment is processed through Square, which can send an e-mailed receipt. The employees are friendly, upbeat, and showed positive body language. Great visit! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Mandi B.

Yelp
The dude that works here couldnt be more bothered to take your order, make your drink correctly, or even call it out when it's done. This is not the first time... I've had to ask politely: are you going to take my order or no? Every time he is there I get bad service and leave feeling like a burden to him and his conversations with the other workers. I own a business down the street. Won't tell anyone to go here and be treated like an annoyance.
google avatar

Larissa S.

Yelp
Grabbed a dozen donuts for my nursing unit and they all loved them. They also sell donut holes for cheap and it was the perfect size for my 15month old. The decor is clean and modern, really nice place to grab coffee and a treat with a friend!
google avatar

Zachary H.

Yelp
The employee who helped us at Coco's was very friendly. We were visiting the area and she gave us some recommendations of where to go. I ordered a Matcha Latte which tasted amazing. We arrived later in the day and got a deal for a half dozen donuts for $4! Super happy with the quality and service here. Recommend.
google avatar

Celinda A.

Yelp
Super cute donut shop that's super gram worthy. Love the vibe! Plus the donuts give me an east coast style flavor. More fluffy than cakey. However they do have cake donuts and it didn't disappoint. We got a dozen and my favorite was the lavender one. The kids loved ALL of them. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Dana H.

Yelp
Coco has my favorite "fancy" doughnuts in the city. They're the better version of what I grew up eating. Today the hubby and I shared an apple fritter, glazed buttermilk bar, and a chocolate cake doughnut. We loved all of them. They're so light. My personal favorite is the glazed buttermilk. It's a little tangy from the buttermilk, and the glaze seeps in through the doughnut. It's so perfect. The shop has plenty of comfortable seating and the staff are very friendly. Get here early!

Michael M.

Yelp
I ordered some donuts for pick up through too good to go an app. When I arrived at 2pm the next day as I was supposed too they were closed! It turns out they are now closed on Mondays! So I went back the next morning hoping to get my donuts and the woman there told me to come back when there was a manager! Refused to compromise at all. Unbelievable! I offered to get $4 worth of stuff since that's what I paid for the too good to go. But she wouldn't even do that! I had been a full paying customer for almost 6 years. But not sure I want to go back now.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
I've walked past this place so many times and never took the time to stop in. I did today and it was amazing! The donuts were fresh and the coffee tasted great. They have an expansive menu and the gal working behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. The interior was clean. Overall a great experience and I think I'll make this place part of my Saturday routine moving forward, I can't wait to try the mochi donuts!
google avatar

Nicole ッ P.

Yelp
Super cute shop! Super friendly and helpful employees! Was helped by Annie who recommended the apple fritter donut which was exactly what I needed tasted like an elephant ear you get from the fair. Really delicious. Im just disappointed I didn't buy more donuts. My latte was super creamy as well
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
These donuts were amazing! Fluffy and full of goodness! I would definitely come back for these :) the Thai ice tea was also refreshing and different from other places! You need to try this one for sure :) it's super clean and new and the interior is modern and comfortable. It was worth running through the rain to get to this place!

Yelp
Popped in for the first time at 11am on a Friday and was pretty disappointed when I saw the limited selection of donuts--no filled donuts--just a handful of cake style donuts and a buttermilk bar. Not one to be daunted, I ordered a lavender latte and a buttermilk bar. How nice that they give you a donut hole on top of your coffee lid. Smart marketing because their donuts don't LOOK fancy, but they are SO GOOOOD! The buttermilk bar was perfection, as was the lavender latte. Also, the interior is fantastic! Super sleek round white marble table tops, fresh white walls, wood accents, trailing houseplants, and pops of pink... On top of that, the service felt really genuine and likable, not the annoying pretentiousness that has come to feel like the standard in Portland. (Life's too short!) Both of the staff members on 11/10 were great, but the blonde young man in particular had a great attitude. I'll be craving these donuts and can't wait to go back to check out their Turmeric Latte!
google avatar

Daina K.

Yelp
This is the second weekend in a row coco donuts has disappointed. Last Sunday, although the door says they open at 7, I walked down there both at 705 and 730, and the lights were still off. After getting donuts elsewhere, I drove by again at 8 to see people standing outside, also learning this location was not open at the time advertised. Today, they opened on time but have no donuts. How are you a donut shop but don't have any donuts?! If you go during the week, they are great. I would avoid weekends though, they always disappoint.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
A welcomed addition to the Williams neighborhood. The inside is designed perfectly, yet simple. You will fall in love with the look and then come back for the donuts. I only tried the lavender cake donut. It was delicious and had the perfect cake to frosting ratio. The donut itself was light and fluffy. (I've been noticing a lot of donuts with heavy frosting or tasting extra greasy elsewhere in the city). Coco donuts are delightful. The young lady who helped me was super friendly and engaging. We will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Wade N.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. Great store, new, CLEAN, and modern looking. The staff was friendly. The donuts just weren't as good as they appeared in the case. Too much hassle to find parking. Food wasn't good enough to justify the trip.

Yelp
Stopped by this morning to pick up a couple of boxes of donuts for work and the service was amazing! One of the new workers was being trained but both employees were amazingly friendly and helpful. The donuts looked adorable and tasted great as well. I also ordered a latte to go and they added a small donut hole on top, which was just the right amount of donut to hold me over before I got to work. Will definitely come here again!

Yelp
Exactly as expected. I got a coffee and a maple bar - the coffee was great and the maple bar was light and fluffy.
