The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner

"What It Is: An all-day Italian restaurant in Soho Perfect For: Date Night, Lunch We went to Coco Pazzo for lunch shortly after it opened, and it was good. But we wanted to head back there to see what goes on at dinner. This is the new Soho version of an Upper East Side Italian restaurant that was popular in the 90s, and on our last visit, the dimly-lit dining room was packed. We tried some seafood appetizers, pastas, and a three-pound roasted chicken that they carved tableside. The four-cheese rigatoni, which is basically what happens when an Italian chef makes mac and cheese, was great. But we also waited an hour between courses and some of the other dishes were pretty bland. The Verdict: This is a solid place to eat Italian food in Soho, but it’s not exciting enough to make it on our Hit List just yet. We’ll be checking back on it soon." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, chris stang, matt tervooren

New Additions to MICHELIN Guide New York: Jan 2023

"Restaurateur Pino Luongo and an ace kitchen team are behind this little spot that's more jewel box than shack. An open kitchen anchors the space, plating seafood rooted in the Mediterranean but bearing influences from around the world." - The MICHELIN Guide

12 Top Quiet Restaurants in NYC - Eater NY

"Reclaimed barn wood, Venetian stucco walls, a soundproofed ceiling and muted tones of taupe and pale green keep things civilized at legendary restaurateur Pino Luongo’s 52-seat Tuscan spot Coco Pazzo in Soho. Pastas and entrees include seafood stew or braised brisket pot roast with pappardelle, but dishes for two — such as large whole branzino or three-pound roast chicken carved tableside — are ideal choices for a romantic meal." - Beth Landman

Nice decor, excellent service, quality differe per selection. The Oysters were great and the spaghettini was out of this world. The fluke and ravioli - not something to write home about.

Stumbled upon this place for a solo dinner and it was absolutely killer! I had the crab tempura, the grilled peaches salad, and the cartoccio. The soft shell crab was pretty good - the tempura was well done but I thought the mayo could have been bolstered a bit with some spice (maybe mixed with some chili/Sriracha or something?) The grilled peaches dish was out of bounds with the bitterness of the radicchio so excellently working with the sweet peaches and brightened with some lemon and dill. The cartoccio (sea bass) was lovely and a nice glass of sancerre complemented it perfectly. A relatively small interior but the space is washed in calm nautical tones (blues, whites, etc). Service was great as well. Would highly recommend for a nice dinner out! :)

Menu packed with interesting flavor combos. Yes to roasted oysters, Caesar salad, pastas, and shrimp & grits.

Fresh scallop and delicious pasta. The anchovy bread is very oily. A little but on the pricey side.

Loved the food here and its a great place to sit and people watch as well. We will definitely come back and try more dishes.

This new version of Coco on Prince Street is different and refreshing. Coco Pazzo moved to Spring Street and is going strong with its Italian fare but Coco Shack is more multi-cultural bringing numerous traditions together with a seafood flare. I ordered a lovely Chablis to start and ordered the oysters with cucumbers, cantaloupe, seaweed and shaved ice infused with seaweed oil. What a combination of flavors for the best oysters I have ever had! And I like oysters! Next course were the soft shell crabs in Bao buns. Zesty and light but a new taste experience. I needed an extra napkin and wipes but definitely worth it. Main course was the paella. I like paella but I can be very judgmental (the famous Paella incident!) However this paella was perfect , brought to the table in its own black skillet. My new friends at the next table who seemed to have had the same meal, Joe, Beth and Oliver shared a special olive oil Joe had brought to Alessandro from his oil importer show. When doesn’t olive oil make things better? Overall fabulous dinner at SoHo’s newest addition. I rate it a 10 out of 10. Get your reservation now because it is going to be hard to get a table here soon. Ciao

The gnoccci might have been one of the best I’ve had in town. And this chocolate cake was the icing on top. Recommend if you’re into seafood.

Newly opened coco shack brings classic and fresh seafood to prince street. The roasted oysters (2ways) and the tuna tartare make for good starters along with the White peach salad with feta and pistachio. Cucumber and dashi stole the show in chilled oysters . Paella was packed with seafood (shrimp squid fish mussel clams) and a generous sized portion for 1.5 ppl.

Yelp
Very late review as we went back in October for a family dinner. We completely enjoyed it. Absolutely fresh seafood offered and tasty. The cesar salad was the best I have ever ever had and truly a winner. The whole roster branzino was very tasty and plentiful for two people. The lobster ravioli was one ravioli and tasted good but my nephew could not overcome the fact that it was one ravioli. It was a large ravioli but I believe perhaps 4-6 smaller ones would have made a better impression on the overall rating of this dish. The paella was delicious as well but the serving calls for two people and it is more for one person. Unless you have ordered several appetizers best to get your own paella and not share this plate of scrumptious rice and seafood. Definitely a go to spot if you are in the area and want to enjoy great bottle of wine with lovely seafood.

Yelp
Coco Shack is a new seafood focused spot from the owners of Coco Pazzo. Not simply Italian seafood, the food is more international and very interesting with items such as ceviche, paella and tempura soft shell crab in a bao bun with pork belly. The restaurant does not have the vibe of Coco Pazzo which is disappointing. Also, it only has a wine license and the wine list is very limited.

Yelp
Really cute space and nice decor. Restaurant is cozy and small. My friend and I ordered the paella which was good. I thought it would be larger but it was enough for us to share. Theres a generous amount of seafood with the serving. I'm sure this space would be amazing in spring, and fall with windows open but dining indoors yesterday at peak summer weather was very hot. I would suggest bringing in a few fans to make it more comfortable. The service was good and they were friendly. Other than the indoor heat, I would come back.

Yelp
What a cute and cozy restaurant! It's a new seafood restaurant in Soho that everybody should go to!The food is so delicious. My favorite dishes were roasted oysters, crodo, Paella Marinera! The food has Asian spices which make it yummy! I loved everything I ate! Definitely, we will come back and can't wait! The Chef David is amazing!!! And service is wonderful!

Yelp
I hate to leave this review because they were so nice to us, but both of us got food poisoning after having dinner here. We had gotten the Tagliolini, Paella and a side of the Collard Greens to share. Somewhere in there was bacteria that didn't like our stomachs, apparently. Sigh.

Yelp
The ambience of Coco shack was absolutely amazing. The spacious brightly lit outdoor seating caught my eye immediately. The staff were attentive and very enthusiastic when answering our questions. My sister and I ordered the spaghettini and squid ink spaghettini to share. Both dishes were delicious and had their own unique flavors. My sister and I will definitely be back to try the oysters! I'd definitely recommend you to visit Coco Shack!

Yelp
Fantastic new seafood in the west vill. We had raw oysters and the baked oysters, both were good. Buttery scallop crudo and the little gem salad for apps. Mains were the paella, catch of the day and the striped bass. All fantastic.

Yelp

Yelp
Great food service and wine! Went to celebrate a birthday dinner and everything was great. The special of the day fish was amazing! Schezhuan style flounder!

Yelp
Great new place on Prince. Excellent wine selection. Cool garden vibe for summer and fun wine selection. Best part- not your usual NYC restaurant seafood selections. A little more creative!

Yelp
My sister and I stumbled across this restaurant and it ended up being our favorite dinner of our trip. The food was beautiful, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
So delicious! Soft shell crab tempura was a great appetizer and paella had a large amount of seafood. Spaghettini (not pictured) was also a favorite. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Perfect spot for a lovely lunch! Had the tuna and pita salad: close to a Niçoise salad, but (thankfully) a bit smaller with an emphasis on mixed olives, garbanzo beans, and tuna, and without capers, potatoes, green beans, etc. The fresh half pita was deliciously placed above a creamy sauce that enhanced the other plated items. Nice staff, clean, pretty table settings (especially the glass cups), etc. made this a easy choice.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner at Coco Shack and everything was exceptional and different from the usual seafood fare. The roasted oysters were so incredible we ordered them a second time for dessert and they've earned a spot on my death row meal list. We tried the Caesar, baby gem, and grilled peach salad and every one was unique and so good. Clam spaghettini was delicious too. Service was attentive and the atmosphere is lovely. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Loved. Delicious food, really fun vibe and nicest staff!!! When you sit inside it feels like you're in a cool fish restaurant not in nyc - loved it. Food was insanely good - the soft shell crab tempura, little gem Caesar, tuna tartar, spaghetti w clams, gnocchi and paella were all amazing. Definitely going back!!! Excited to have this in the neighborhood

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED this restaurant. It is small, but the quality, the innovation in the food, the adventurous and highly curated wine list, and the impeccable service were a delight to experience. We will definitely go back!
